Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Oh Tsk. Tsk again. 12 June 2006

Tsk, Tsk.
This, from a former FPer at Daily Kos. She posted it to reprove and, in decidedly school-marmish ways, to diminish a poster, in fact to instruct all commenters in that particular diary.
Love how they, the FPers, were so blameless but sinned so much….
The lot of them, the Front Pagers, after late summer 2003 (when Steve Soto and Billmon moved to their own blogs), without exception were themselves trolls.
And most were political operatives or, in three cases, handy (and) fake "lefty" beards. Beards to mask the fact that site is an operative arm of both the leadership and the conservative wings of the party. After the Loss in 2004 of course Kos came right out and declared it was a Democratic Party site.
Some were shocked. They had not been reading closely.
Frankly, the sites that are merely exhortatory retail sites for the party and fundraising arms of the party should banner that.
Oh yes yes: IMO.
However I have the advantage of long observation of the Democratic party, a Democratic voter as long as Markos Moulitsas has been alive. And a poster at Kos from November 2002.
Before this archived scheisse rolls out, it bears mentioning: an online friend was - not outed… Not publicly outed. But the person's full name, home address and work address was emailed to the individual by a former (but never gone) front pager at Dkos. One of the very nasty DLCers, a full party operative, who rolled in following the Al From editorial May 11, 2003.
No, this is not about poor Howard, who for the many Democratic sins shall doorbell and sell Democracy Bonds and smile about Casey and Massa and Webb (good luck, I think you get one out of three – the small fish). Well, no heavy lifting. Poor Howard.
My online acqaintance was very troubled and felt violated. But get this: the person did not whine. Not at all. Nor was the violation used for an extravaganza pity party. Armando has seen to it that thousands have publicly fellated him. Or scolded on his behalf or kissed his rosy bi partisan but mostly Republican ass. And those who are his buds, or wanna-be buds, fluttered about to shield him.
Too late.
Hall Monitors who yearn in bed at night to return to some Big American HS I never attended. And menial managers who dream to manufacture consensus, deliver votes and $$ and gain entre to the party. Well, it beats "helping" some "suburban" Philly candidates.
Slugs.
And yet, he is not gone. You have to laugh.
But the person who received all his/her own pertinent personal information, sans SS #, has disappeared from posting at the turgid and mired Democratic sites.
Win! WIn! WIn!, and what have they won? They have relentlessly shut down discussion in service of the Democratic party and its Thugs.
Nothing new.
The sites are all tied together anyway. The game is run like a series of herding pens. Dressed up box cars to corral the vote – and crush discussion. The diaries and threads for jokesters and non-political discussion multiply.
So much certainty (4.00 / 3)
yet again…Issue is a bit more complicated (big surprise). One of the invisible tasks of the week-end crew is to find ways to deal with the questionable stuff – the stuff that pushes limits, that is offensive, that can offend, that may do "harm" to the site, given that the site now gets a bit of mainstream attention. There are folks who
1) would like to take advantage of that attention for not necessarily kosher or even earned reasons (plenty of people would happily short cut the hard work process that marKos put in to get that attention) and
2) would like to destroy that hard-earned mainstream attention.
The best way to handle that is usually on the QT, by emailing the poster/diarist and explaining the issues their posts present, providing them with options. Many times its just a case of not knowing/thinking and offense is not intended. Some times offense is intended. There's plenty of offense that is tolerated around here, but there are places where lies are drawn, and places where lines must be drawn. Disagreement always exists about the particulars, but MarKos is the final arbiter and part of Armando's (and the rest of our) responsibility to MarKos is to keep eyes open for that and act in good faith to protect what he and the rest of us have built.
While its not completely democratic, the method of that kind of baby-sitting that MarKos has chosen is proxies and he trusts them to act in good faith. That's what Armando was doing, whether you agree with him or disagree.
Disagreement is of course, allowed, and your diary is ample evidence of that, the snide taunt about changing your diary title aside. What's not been done in good faith, is provide any context or sense of understanding that this baby-sitting need does in fact exist, and that there are no perfect solutions to it, only imperfect ones that can be carried out in good faith by MarKos' proxies and processed in good faith by the rest of the community.
Each of us probably places the line slightly differently in the "time to act/time to let go" dynamic, so the way/moment that Armando might decide to intervene will by definition be different from the way/moment I or kid oakland or hunter or davidnyc might, but it is all part of that process that markos established. some good faith acknowledgement of that might be warranted when choosing to take up the issue for discussion with the community.
And yes, the option to "forceablly" edit does exist for moderators. Its not one that's often practiced, but it is available. Its less extreme than disappearing or banning, options I tend to view as a real last resort. As long as one is open about it, as Armando was, its one of the things that can happen.
It seems to me perfectly legitimate to raise questions about it when it does, but if you are going to do so, it only seems fair to provide the context of "good faith" I suggested above.
I, for one, am not sure that I accept your premise that its never okay, for instance.

She was so tiresome, the long repetitive lectures on "progressive", the meaning of. A dictionary on the hoof.
And as my friend Norn, UID 7 at Dkos, used to say, they all ACT like these are paid jobs. Bingo.
Meanwhile Armando has pulled this shit (below) for years.
I mean, you have to laugh. In addition to being a hired honcho for Wal-Mart. They shoveled out all of that "baby-sitting" scheisse in the post above to keep ordinary posters "in line", to make the blog acceptable to what else? the tired and worn-out, ever-more conservative Democratic Party.
You have to laugh:

Armando's worst enemy is Armando (4.00 / 10) This sort of language isn't going to reassure any nervous multimillion dollar corporate clients:
These are EXCERPTS from ONE DIARY in which Armando participated. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/10/23/13416/187 No matter what you think of Armando–friend, foe, supporter, detractor–there are THOUSANDS of comments as bad as that one, or far worse, in terms of tone and language and emotional control. We all have bad days from time to time. Armando's bad days apparently all end with the letter "y". by The Blogging Curmudgeon on Fri Jun 9th, 2006 at 05:19:54 PM EST |

UPDATED, Monday, 11:30 pm, PT,
It is a "masterist" scold game, lower case.
Re: You get back what you give. ( / )
It's a bit jarring to sit in a room of dedicated and serious people and to try to tell them that i am a dedicated and serious person too, and have them come look at my site and see 10 people sniffing Armando's panties.
I hope that is obvious. It's not complicated.

And the children, those assigned the part of the child, seek to explain themselves. Once they stood and made arguments as adults, but to stay in good with ''Dad''… well you get it, the game is old. Discipline and diminish.
There is a "mom" version around the incestuous amplification blogs tonight… Oh, My Fucking GOD. You have to laugh. There are no words left really. A new medium and it is a Romper Room.
Stick a lollipop in their mouths and shut them up.
My answer to those games is, Thanks, I had a father. My own. And he has been dead nearly 20 years. These games sap energy.
I am a Voter and an Adult: It is not complicated and further it is obvious.

Yes, yes, yes . . .
“And as my friend Norn, UID 7 at Dkos, used to say, they all ACT like these are paid jobs.”
I do tend to think, however, that some are actually amateurs, I’m sure the powers that be at all those sites don’t part with a nickel more than they have to.
And there are always sincere, idealistic people that less scrupulous folks can always take advantage of. There’s even a FP post about this, I won’t bother linking, if the story it relates is true, I don’t want to have to think about it.
However, I will link to this, which contains my favorite El Caudillo performance. I guess the first named storm of this new hurricane season helps bring it to mind. You’ll have to scroll through to find out just how Armando saved New Orleans, but it’s worth the effort, if only to find out just what sort of people are behind this web of interconnected “progressive” blogs. Not a pretty picture, I must say.
A sad and pathetic bunch. No doubt about it, and destroying what could have been a great communication tool.
Who quotes Rabbi Heschel in service of political intimidation. Disgusting
I never liked Armando, however, Pounder did have it coming with some entirely unproven accusations against kos and the fact that he’s continued the vendetta on his own blog makes him as bad to worse. And the fact that Pounder (along with most of the rest of the Ohio blogosphere) continues to defend Tim Russo? Well, words can’t give the effect. That having been said? You have valid points but any entity as large as dailykos is simply not going to function wholely as a discussion enterprise anymore.
Her sig line used to be a quote from Alexander Pope (don’t remember which one). I threw that back in her face once with a paraphrase of a line from “Rape of the Lock,” “with every word, your reputation dies.” That earned me a “2″ back in the days when there were a range of choices for ratings, which under the circumstances pleased me enormously. Just a week or two before that, I’d helped her get TU status back when she was mugged by a pair of tag teamers. No good deed goes unpunished.
She was a great favorite of both DHinMI (a MI based operative, now in DC), the DLCer operative who swept in by spring of 2003 and was a FPer by late summer fall…
AND she was a great favorite of Armando's.
One of the fake ''lefty'' beards. She was basically a denizen of non-profit orgs – and they can be better funded at her end of the spectrum under a Dem admin. About it….
Some thought she might be a low (really low) level Kerry operative to post against Dean.
I never could tell. But I estimated I read perhaps 2000 comments of hers against Dean (largely depending on an early article in The Nation against him – "not progressive enough") – and I finally had to ask her who she voted FOR in the VA primary.
I think she kinda sorta mumbled "Kucinich"… but it was a very odd posting history.
She commented more on Dean than I did – and I was a strong early supporter.
She also was in the "derision" mode about Dean supporters.
Snide bitch in her tired way – and from long strange posts about suicide possible – a Fristian diagnosis here – a tad manic. OFten posted iwth "Jonathan" an operative who is still active at Dkos.
Oh yes, I deeply resent what Kos did to pile shit on a new medium for political discussion.
He shat in public over and over, all over free broad open political discussion.
I NEVER intend to shut the fuck up about what they did…
OPERATIVES.
