Well.  There has been a lot said about me in the recent days.  None of it too important I might add.  20 years ago, who knew gas would fuel the ‘Nets?  But there for all to read.  Do I say a lot about others?  And about other sites?  Yes I surely do.

Politics is a broad issue.  To me it is absolutely everywhere.  The retail political discussion sites are clearly an issue for me.  I see their MO as strangling open debate and as the early days (moving swiftly and accelerates after each election, ‘04 and ‘06) of online machine politics.

Am I interested in bringing ”them” down (Martin is in combust over at BMT, it is a big conspiracy)?  Pause for laughter…. NO.  I long ago told Armando, keep it up.  I observe a thick slice of cheap party bacon, the greasy assembling of sausage thru the Blahgs.  I meant that sincerely:  keep it up.

But!  They have some idea, paraded often, they should be some sort of self appointed Cyber Blahg Lords and Ladies.

Well a pox on that one!  If they be lords, that means we are serfs.  A big Fuck You to that one.

My commentary will go on as it has.  The site may grow it may not.  I have to say it is not why I started a blog.  If it mattered, I would have had google ads from day one.  I don’t.  I doubt I’d ever endorse a politician.  I might think about book ads as having the imagery of book covers would fit in.  About it.

I was at Dkos very early when he asked people about taking ads.  Of course I said yes (clue: I always knew it was his blog!) but I added:  Be aware it changes things.  An easy shot, a true one.

Earlier in the summer when Msoc and Pyrrho came over with issues over statements made at the site I stated the only rule that matters to me:  I will say what I wish.  Those who comment here may as well.  All I ask is that people stand their ground and argue their points.  I will do the same.  Intuitive perception of an ongoing political situation or issue or of an interpersonal issue is valid.  Argue those points too.

Last, they are so clearly a squirrely bunch, it just sets me off… ;)

That won’t be changing…

All threads here are open, people may comment topic or off….  Go for it, if you wish… ;)

UPDATE, 8:36 am on the Pacific Ocean… ;)

Thanks to out of water in the preceding thread… text posted in full, in case the diary is deleted:

User thistime purged

Mon Feb 05, 2007 at 08:08:41 AM PST

Please review her history. She was never troll rated. She didn’t use vulgarisms, or attack in a swarm, she was a “Trusted User”. She kept to herself, but she just couldn’t stand the hypocrisy and spoke the truth, not even that loudly. But the mention of the truth is a mistake anywhere that outing the itis a dangerous, and outing it here is harder to control by the moment. Remember, there was no warning, not even as much as a troll rating. All she did was piss off the police. Last weekend she said Democrat wasn’t a god, then in OPOL’s diary she supported the position that there was an internal effort at DK to silence voices which weren’t mainstream enough. Heresy.

The point of this diary is to remind all of you to please not think of  this place as a community. It is not, your individual voice matters here as much as it does in Washington, and you are expendable if you dare to challenge the status quo. Daily Kos is a business, there is nothing wrong with that standing alone, but like all businesses its single function is to make money. There is no community policing underway, that’s a ruse, but there are police. The purpose of the police isn’t to keep trolls away, but to keep the blog mainstream enough to generate more revenue.

The world will not be changed here. The belief that DK is a movement is just illusion which causes power, thought, money and energy to be drained from real potential. As you go forward, please view DK in a skeptical light, scratch your head when things seem out of whack, but if you want to stay, keep your doubts silent.

On a final note there was so much irony in Kos’s diary above that I couldn’t leave it unchecked.

In that diary earlierKos invoked Bush’s management style as one he views as problematic:

Why the hell do you think Bush is such a disaster? Because no one will criticize his decisions, or offer nary a word of dissent. I’m not about to encourage similar myopia on this little corner of the internets.

Bush values loyalty above all. Regardless of how recklessly his subordinates act, he supports them. In his mind any destruction is caused by those who weren’t supportive enough, there is no personal responsibility for the privileged. Differing views are a sign of disloyalty, and such voices are silenced or purged.

The basics of common courtesy are considered signs of weakness to be exploited.

There is no bottom to the speech allowed by the favorites here, abuse is encouraged. If the content of the speech supports the leadership at Kos and in the Democratic Party there are no limits. The place is an echo chamber.

And fuck you again politburo

And fuck you again politburo

Fuck off

  •  i don’t know what happened (0 / 0)

but i was considering getting rid of the ‘chamber of commerce’ tag. And does this count as a troll diary, or is it just pure, unadulterated whining?

Again, i wasn’t involved in the OPOL piefight, so i may not have all the requisite context,  but this diary is an absolute waste of time.

UPDATE, 1:01 pm in San Francisco

Sometimes you feel like a nut!, sometimes you don’t!…

In case you wondered why they mounted their benchcat site:

[T]his also goes to my reaction to the DD thing.  What kind of nut goes to the trouble to take someone’s name, find their place of work, take a company photo of a person, and then link to it and make disparaging points about their appearance.  And then go find their friendster profile and mock them for what kind of woman they would like to meet?  These people are out to destroy.

I wish people could understand that.

by BooMan on Mon Feb 5th, 2007 at 12:20:53 PM EST

I was glad to help Martin with his numbers.  They surely did swell thru Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  As he FPed Outing Bloggers and Marisacat.

And the reply to him is common sense, from the community square.  Not of real interest to Martin.  All is in service ot the Boyz.  Armando, DD and Chris Bowers.  Fine.  Oh sure the odd bit here or there where he gets pissy and goes of rez…;).  But soon back in the sway back horse’s saddle.

Sorry to be rude!

Boo there’s Meta and there’s META (4.00 / 2)

DD is a big reason I wandered over here via Jerome and EuroTrib.  The stuff DD writes and the way he comes down on people is beyond the pale, and the brunt of the attacks and flame wars often seem to end up being hurled at outspoken women. And there are others there and at other mainstream blogs that are as bad or worse.DD and his ilk have a very chilling effect on free and open discourse. <Long aside here>While electoral mechanics, messaging, and policy governance are the critical issues facing us right now, there are other significant issues underway that need open, free and unfettered discussion; like say the disenlightenment and return to royalism that’s well underway.</Long Aside>

And the unhinged way DD and others went off on marisacat is simply symptomatic of their worldview.  BTW, did you ban that guy hurling out the c and b words about marisacat?  That was beyond the pale and had nothing to do with this site.

Where I grew up, if an innocent third-party had heard the invective being hurled at marisacat by some of these people across the blog worlds at a bar, party or out on the street they would have knocked the shit out of them without even knowing who she was.

The marisacat attacks across the blogs were uncalled for and way out of control. I think that at some level they also contributed to the opening of other wounds here.

And that’s all I have to say on that topic.

I have long said that “liberal” blogs have suffered for the sort of man all too often inhabiting them… And a service class of women.  Dated, but very viable.

And this is my reply to their efforts (Outing Marisacat / Chihuahua watch).  If you need a laugh, read the comments at OM, I have tried to help with their RSS content.

Post here as you like on politics, war, media, online media, &c, your opinions are your own and you are responsible for them.  Stand your ground.

God knows there are lots of tied-to-the-party sites.  Easy enough to be part of the Group Event….

UPDATE… 2:48 pm in San Francisco…

I am watching the (non) debate in the senate, the Warner Levin bill be blocked by the Republicans.  Vote ongoing now on cloture… the wittle Dems need 60 to commence debate.  And Reid gave a speech indicating it would be blocked.  He said he’d…. why he’d….  Yeah it was empty huff puff.  His final puff was that, by golly, there’d be debate… another day.

Day in and day out, the Republicans always get the Dems they need. Rarely the ohter way around.  Even for a limp bill.

Dem No

Lieberman (such a shock)

(Nelson of NE VOTED YES)

49 Yes, 47 Nay.

I heard a reporter from Roll Call (so no link, behind a sub wall) last week say that “6 or 7″ Republican senators are the ones charged with obstruction.

Just bidness… ;)

As Kos says, those who are nettled by our criticisms should grow a thicker skin. If they can’t handle it they shouldn’t be on the internet.

The bolded is wrong and weak of you to suggest.

First, it was not a iffy proposition. Not even close. Do not say it was and get more in trouble based on your bad interpretation.

Second, The diary was edited so no one was banned for recommending it.

You should be more careful treading in dangerous waters like that. Irreponsible of you

“I find the calls for blood to be disturbing. Why all these calls for blood. Why a whole other blog site set up to criticize me and vilify a troubled member of this site because I won’t pull down the guillotine fast enough?

“Because she gives me some stipend? Because my girlfriend tells me what to think? Because I’m afraid of criticizing the military? On and on they go…questioning my compassion, questioning not just my judgment, but my ethics and my character.

“And all the while posing in the character of people that really care about this community and about me (never mind Tracy, who they long ago decided they loathed).

“I have to vent on this, because this is how I see things.

“I see a lot of well intentioned good people that really care about this community who think I honestly have made bad decisions. I am glad they care enough to say it and care enough to stick around and try to make things better.

“But I see a lot more than that. I see a lot of ill-will and bitterness and obsessive-complusive behavior, and yes, intentional malice.”

… I doubt I’d ever endorse a politician…

Which is entirely appropriate, because it’s your own damn space. Though I find the campaign folk Kozzies throw in with to be mostly pigs and skunks in a few scraps meager scraps of peacenik clothing, I’d still say that if that’s what he wants his site to be, he should go for it. The trouble is that he and his defenders are hung up on the idea that they deserve the same level of trust and understanding that they did when the page was NOT endorsing candidates and doing other big-time things.

But they don’t. And if this page started endorsing candidates, my expectations of it would change. What was the old Alpha Band line: “Not everything has a price/But everything takes its toll…”

The Kozzies either haven’t figured that out, or they have but won’t own up to it.

i guess as one never in any way part
of the kos scene

this seems provincial to me

everyone has a kos shadow ’round here

as to kissing his bejeweled stub
in the context of lord or serf

i’ll suggest smurf as the likely alternative

so long as size matters

big blog becomes huge blog

and the tower above it can shoot lighening bolts

the net becomes structured like magazine/newspaper world

is that a surprise ????

kos can be left behind when you strike out on your own

the space is unlimited

so long as you don’t harbor
big box dreams
if you do …

fuck kos ???

i bet a lot of poor asses
in the refinery biz in the 1870’s
said a similar stupid tbing about rockefeller

or 115 years later about gates

the medium will have a hyperbolic distribution of viewership
regardless of all content wars

do you wanna be a sod buster or ben cartwright
no ranchers and farmers can’t be friends

but there’s al;so

big ranch and small ranch

and multiply by 10 on the large size

and divide by ten on the small side

and you’ll have an idea where relative blog site viewership is going

ansd recall so far big ranchers haven’t fought each other

oligarchs usually don’t

16. marisacat - 5 February 2007

ms_xeno.. of course Kos can endorse. So many any of the blogs. And rn political ads, and also donate that ad space to their political endorsements – and others – tho then it is money in kind.

It is that they take money (yes i know kos says his only revenue is his ads), sell trust, hump “community” and are abusing people to fashion a product to sell.

I am allowed an opinion of that.

Is what they are doing anything new? not at all.

But the spasmodic hatred over there is very revealing. It is commercial. TO preserve their business model. Oh I am sure I meant to say Progressive Movement.

I think “crashing the gates” was just plain silly. The site is a tool of the party. Tool for various factions. And day after day, the same headlines and messages waft thru.

Such as SILENCIO on Lebanon. To suit the party.

17. marisacat - 5 February 2007

js paine.. well tut tut. Why then did YOUR OLD SITE bother to crash Slurp in the Desert? I found SMBIVA thru the cross post at Counterpunch.

Most things are provincial.

18. D. Throat - 5 February 2007

SILENCIO on Lebanon

SILENCIO on Immigration

SILENCIO on DLC centrism (Kos “decided” that that chapter was not needed…since the DLC is dying and powerless… hence all Dem candidates are DLC)

SILENCIO on Reid’s incompetence

etc.etc.etc

19. ms_xeno - 5 February 2007

Paine:

…and recall so far big ranchers haven’t fought each other

oligarchs usually don’t…

No, but big ranchers once fought the big railroads, and lost. They were badly outsmarted, if you believe the story told in The Octopus.

So maybe giant media outlets are the big railroads in this soap opera, and the big bloggers are the ranchers. I’m just whistling in the dark here…

ahhh mcat

this is why i’m growing to love u

nothing escapes your minds barbed perimeter

u are 1000% correct

my senior partner and site proprietor

the right reverend father smiff of smiff hollow kentucky

indeed got his biggest ever scoop moment
by casing kos-vegas

and what a fine going over he gave it i might add

further more …on your side of the ledger

he was fired like a red headed clown out of a circus cannon

for some unseemly poll postings at kos

and has several more crash outs and sneek ins over there

its like water world

there’s so much to ride there i guess

bottom line i was merely trying to get attention

didn’t you know any juvenile males like that ???

its often incurable

to make amends
i’ll escape from behind a sam johnson quote

is inflicted by men that propose no advantage to themselves

but the satisfaction of poisoning the banquet..”

21. ms_xeno - 5 February 2007

…But the spasmodic hatred over there is very revealing. It is commercial. TO preserve their business model. Oh I am sure I meant to say Progressive Movement…

Well, remember Big Biz should be left to benevolently regulate and to police itself. No sassing back from the customer base. Our job is to shut up and eat the Happy Meals and let them tend to conditions in the slaughterhouses. [snerk]

Which explains why a particular strain of libertarianism is so attractive to Kos and his torpedos. The variety that elevates personal responsibility to godhood, but does not actually require the top dog to show that he understands what responsibility actually means. The divine right of kings, with the king in a baseball cap instead of a crown. Etc…

22. D. Throat - 5 February 2007

Re: question from the back of the room (none / 0)

faithful community members or kewl sleeper cell community members? I’m confused. Seriously, I’m not sure committed blog wreckers qualify as faithful community members. I just have a hard believing it.

Whether it is James saying I get kickbacks from Kos, Marisacat saying I get kickbacks from Tracy, Parker saying I get kickbacks from Chris Bowers who gets kickbacks from the DLC, or the whole crew over there that thinks I can’t think for myself, I really do not see then as faithful members of this community.

But I do see a lot of faithful members of this community that are trying to make things work better. They’re not posting over at mobetta, they’re posting here.

………………..

This site wouldn’t exist without (4.00 / 2)

Booman’s efforts and his outlay of money as well. He has his mission statement clearly outlined too. I have owned my own business in the past and it was very successful. I likely will again when my son needs me less. In the meantime I clean bathrooms, make cookies for school, arrange for and transport to five surgeries this year now for my son (his orthodontic problems are now rearing their head and that is now two more surgeries this year) and do everything in my power to assist in his healing process, pay the bills, shop for and wrap christmas presents, make sure that a first grader and a junior in high school have their homework done, help them if they are having problems in school or their social life and find and hire tutors if needed, blog about my frustrations over the Iraq War and hopefully help in some small way to create a national dialog that will enable my country to find solutions to the mess that has already been made. I support the site and pay Martin what I can to dedicate all of his time to making sure that a blog community is created and grown so that when I need information or want to be heard others are here sharing and listening. It is a full time job though and people need to be given opportunities daily to participate or they will go elsewhere where there is more community. I don’t have the time to be here 24/7 maintaining the community that I hope will be here if and when I need it, and I am grateful that Booman does that. If I don’t like how that goes and what is required I am free to leave and find a different sort of community more to my liking and personal preferences elsewhere. I don’t understand if this is so distressing to you why you just don’t go start your own blog that works the way you want it to.

I loved his hamaschick diary. IIRC it was Hunter who was on slave patrol that night.

And of course it was old years ago. Hell they banned me August of 2005. And I was user #97. One of their buds Petey came after several of us Sept 2003, right on the eve of the big move to Scoop. I call that one the Pre Scoop attempted purge.

The hard rub is a new media was roped in early. Yes one may open a blog. There is a beauty to that, absolutely. But the blahgs and party have a lot corraled. Boxed up.

Again, several sites (of the BBB) are suffering declining numbers. Early on, the big blogs were the War Blogs.

Later the more broadly based political blogs grew more prominent… But iwth 2003/04 they tied in increasingly to the party. And the party, for its part, actively drew them in… and it was to stifle criticism.

The blahgs wanted in. They are in.

It was the standard way things play out.

25. D. Throat - 5 February 2007

the funniest paralogia from the new fp order is their mantra of “we have to police the site, we don’t wanna, but somebody has to keep this place in line or anarchy rules!”

and then get the most condescending lessons in civility from kos and hunter. civility from kos! ha ha ha…i just love hypocrisy from the sanctomonious men’s study set…

32. supervixen - 5 February 2007

cad – yes, after the Troll Cop Wars (hmm, funny that didn’t make it onto the poll Miss D has just told us about) there was a lot of babbling from Elise et al. about “Someone has to police the site or the trolls will take over and it will descend into chaos and anarchy” etc. I became interested and since I was a TU, I began paying attention to the contents of the Hidden Comments. Lo and behold, things were not quite as dire as the Troll Cops claimed. There were not very many actual trolls at all. The Imaginary Enemy. Boo!!

There’s plenty of chaos and anarchy, but it’s all caused by the admins and their flunkies running around bopping people on the head.

in the form of insults to the ‘unfamous’ rablle . . .

But that’s fine: sucking up to perceived power is how we ‘know’ it’s ‘real’ and even ‘important’ here.

38. missdevore - 5 February 2007

Hey Marisacat–I was right–he dumped Booman and MLW from the blogroll.

the only other omission I note is Glen Greenwald.

39. supervixen - 5 February 2007

That Pastor Dan diary is very strange. He must have caught the same virus as Bob Johnson and so many others. Mad Kos Disease.

40. marisacat - 5 February 2007

LOL he said it would be based on elections politics. That meant some ability to fundraise.

They did nto make the cut.

and the stats will tell that. Anemic numbers. And basically (tho there are good people everywhere) a softening of the context at the sites.

I am sure Kos considers his site Head Gladiator. Roman LEgions. Storm the Colliseum.

It is pretty funny frankly… ;)

41. marisacat - 5 February 2007

When the rigth attacked Greenwald, no Dem party site stood up for him.

It was very telling.

42. cad - 5 February 2007

and the homophobic anti-life superbowl ads must have warmed kos’s little roman heart.

43. D. Throat - 5 February 2007

Oh the irony…has this person read the DK rec’d list… three metas and luke warm mush.

44. outofwater - 5 February 2007

“The Kostone Kops! LOL! Elise and her flirting are way over the top. Does she have to sexualize every frigging comment on there?! If I have to read one more of her comments about the size of her “rack,” I’m gonna puke.”

She just figures that’s the way to get ahead over there. It worked well for mcjoan, so why not give it a shot, so to speak.

Someone could write a book about the self esteem of those girls, but there is nothing to say.

45. supervixen - 5 February 2007

And Miz Laura going on and on about the dress she was going to wear to YKos. I think she did an entire diary on “What are you Wearing?” “Shallow” is hardly the word.

46. Sabrina Ballerina - 5 February 2007

At Kos, it’s all meta all the time, nonsense filled diaries, about five from the ‘administration’ on Meta, today. Even Jerome chimed in, talking about THEM. But Opol’s diary was deemed unsuitable for DK. He talks about serious issues ~ doesn’t waste time on describing his personal physical attributes which seems to be an obsession with them over there.

Cad, I mentioned those condescending posts from the ‘daddy’ figures earlier. They really do have an inflated image of themselves. Endlessly boring –

Miss Devore, your comments are hillarious – and you and SV made it to a DK poll!! lol

Cad, lots of people get it over there, but they don’t even bother to say anything they just roll their eyes or leave –

There are still a few really good writers there – whenever they post diaries, I read them and then go elsewhere for news.

Meantime the news doesn’t get better from Iraq – and people are still dying – how can it be stopped, leaving, staying, there are no good options, as most agree. So that makes leaving as soon as possible the only option for the US.

Marisacat, you write so well – I do love your posts and I have a feeling as the year goes by, many more will find this blog. It’s a breath of fresh air after the stifling atmosphere of DK.

47. outofwater - 5 February 2007

The boyz like their women folk pretty and she aims to please. The messy, ugly ones don’t make it to the FP.

Please, I’m you here, tell me ML wasn’t planning her wardrobe for next year, but was talking about what she would wear to YearlyKos the next day, or that same afternoon as it was underway. Not that anyone gave a shit about it then either, but it would resemble something like a sane conversation. No normal person obsesses about attire a full year in advance, except if it is for their wedding….

48. D. Throat - 5 February 2007

Maybe instead of a chocolalte fondue party they could have a toga party at the next YKos …. with centurion boyz and subserviant slave blogmaidz.

With in the first 100 hours the GOP has already filibusered and blocked a debate… pathetic… perhaps Reid will keynote again at YKos.

50. outofwater - 5 February 2007

You said it, today Reid used the ammunition he managed to keep dry for all those years, or maybe it was just used.

Vote Democratic for change.

51. supervixen - 5 February 2007

So Naderites really are all working for the GOP. Damnit ! Why didn’t anyone in Pwogland ever warn me ??!?!

marisacat, I still like my earlier idea. A league of in-house Robin Hood and Merry Men of healthcare– stealing the goods and slipping ‘em to the public right under the Pharma Sherrif’s nose. Of course, things didn’t end well for Robin, but look at how fondly people remember him to this day !!

67. Tuston - 5 February 2007

I think I’d support a ms_xeno bid for pretzldent, but will only work for Lightly Roasted Ethiopean beans and “scooby snacks”

BTW the little lord kos le hémorroïde has a classic piece of dkossian doublespeak up on Reid’s failure:

Because in 2008, we’ll elect people who WILL end this war, from the White House, to the Senate, to the House. And the more Republicans obstruct even the most toothless “non-binding” half-measures to express disapproval on the war, the more the American people will see who will prolong the quagmire, and who will work to end it.

68. marisacat - 5 February 2007

god. digging deep into nothingness.

Democrats were utterly blocked on a mild to nothing piece of air.

When they put in McConnell and Lott (and he and Reid are friendly) it was clear the R would do as they nearly always do, fight fight fight. And the Dems phone for catering or flights out or or oror

Meanwhile ABC World News is running a “happy” piece on not having an abortion in case of rape.

Thankfully PK was around to keep me from throwing my beer at the idiot box, but I did yell some choice profanities.

Recovering Kossack, I remember Thistime ~ I thought he was a man though the diary says it was a woman. S/he was just as the diary described. Quiet, smart and deadly for survival at DK, principled. Maybe s/he’ll find her way here – I think s/he was there for a few years.

They call you a troll if you stand up for what’s right and I noticed when I first got there about a year ago, she was always fighting the bullies, but s/he did it in a quiet way – as a newbie at the time, I was glad to see her when someone was being bullied. I don’t know why out of all the others who were fighting in those diaries, she was banned, unless there are others also. That would be one way to get rid of Opol, ban all his supporters, but not the instigators and abusers.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bunch of people with fewer morals than I have at that place -

And this is sad – Skippy kicked off the blogroll.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/2/5/193315/5933

Well, it’s no surprise that the Republicans used the filibuster. Why then could the Dems not do so when they were a minority? Unbelievable, I’m beginning to think it’s all rigged ~ they all want this war to continue ~

Kos’ glee that for two years we can use is is plain stupid. They just lost while in the majority – and those soldiers will be there dying for nothing. I think this was decided when Bush met with the Dems this week.

Recovering Kossack, I’m with you re Democrats. I used to think they were the good guys. So naive ~ and after watching what goes on at Kos, I can’t tell the difference between them and the rightwingers who drove me to the Dem side in the first place.

Ms xeno, I seriously mean it, I would support you for president over any of the current candidates. The war is my biggest issue. So, anyone who facilitates it, I will not support ~ and I love the name of your Party. lol

********Final comment*******

Kos evidently didn’t like hearing the ‘uppity’ truthiness about the site’s gang-thuggery being so plainly expressed by Thistime (who, with an early uid# in the 18K range had likely seen the goon squad’s baiting tactics in action numerous times in the past on Kos), so he probably purged Thistime with the usual lack of communication or courteous reply to email queries [as was his purge of a number of others, including myself (also Chris Floyd), were purged ~1yr ago].

Thistime probably then contacted EasternOakie (uid~ 1800), who has been around Dkos even longer than thistime, who in turn wrote the diary to try to find out why thistime could not log on or get anyone at Dkos to reply to thistime’s inquiries.

And the predictable responses from the kos-police to EasternOkie’s diary questions was to play dumb [and play like Oakie was dumb/irrational] and at the same time try to bait Oakie into blowing his/her cool.

Many of us have seen thesame M.O. before.

here is a past example of the Kos gang kickdown Tx done to Jules Siegel who wrote a diary to find out why kos banned Chris Floyd :

Or 120 ways, if you don’t count each of the seven sins individually.

The last major rapids, above Banos Carrizal, is called Paso Limon, and it is a class 4, a squeeze between a large rock and a vertical wall on the right. We aced it and were about an hour above Banos. We had an upstream wind, and I saw Molly sniffing; the wind carrying the strong smell of sulphur up the river. The closer we got to Banos, the stronger the smell became.

When we arrived at the take-out, Banos was a hubbub of New Years Eve activity. Banos Carrizal is an old hot springs resort, and that afternoon la gente were resorting all over the place. After we unloaded the gear from the boats, everyone found their swimwear, and we all changed and headed for the hot springs for a warming soak. Molly and I stopped at the little kiosk selling cold beer poured from its container into a sandwich bag with a straw in it and bound closed with a rubber band. No glass containers allowed in the pool. I bought us each a sack of beer, and we headed to the source of the sulphurous odors. We got in the water, and it felt heavenly after a day of splashing through the cold waters of the mountain snowmelt that fed Rio Antigua. We were up against one side of the pool with just our noses and mouths out of the water, sucking Mexican beer through a straw on New Years Eve. It was perfect.

Molly looked at me and said, “Fromholz, those Baptist preachers lied to me.” “How’s that?” I asked. Molly rolled her eyes and replied, “They told me hell would smell like this.”

Steve Fromholz remembers Molly Ivins

How could any woman hate herself so much that she’d try to lure a serial abuser/cheater/cad from the woman who he met at the same place? While the origional replacment is watching? Oakie’s Defense?

It looked to me like he/she was was just trying to getting some answers on what the problem was with Thistime’s account.

And Oakie’s comment history over the past year prior to today’s diary was limited,

http://www.dailykos.com/search?offset=30&old_count=30&string=EasternOkie&type=comment_by&sortby=relevance&search=Search&count=30&wayback=20160&wayfront=0&search_archive=yes

so something about the way he saw the “purge” situation with regard to Thistime and the apparent lack of meaningful response KosMedia Inc on the issue evidently motivated him/them enough to resort to an online queary in the form of that diary.

87. marisacat - 5 February 2007

I liked Oakie’s post very much. I thought it was a pretty perfect diary for the situation. And I loved the close. And I really like thistime’s comment…

;)

88. marisacat - 5 February 2007

Someone who predates me at Kos, used to FP at TLC and now, as best I can determine is completely gone from the blogs. well she used to say that there was a class of “COs”. She called them conscientous objectors. They read, they watched, they had low numbers. And would rate mostly, comment a bit, but stayed out. But they saw what was happening.

She was pretty astute. I’m guessing she was right… for one thing she religioiusly checked how people rated her. And I guess got onto it that way. I rarely looked at how I was rated. and Eastern Oakie was one.

89. New Fake Name - 5 February 2007

Now that you mention it, I did notice a number of those low number ‘watchers/raters’ on Dkos when I was there.

And I also liked how Okie constructed that diary, and how he/she commented within it.

Elise lives with some guy. At least she did several months ago, when in a feminisms diary she was complaining about how little time they actually spent together, she and this man she lived with. Given how much time she blogs, perhaps the guy threw in the towel and decided he didn’t want to be an “on-line widower.” Or perhaps she feels she can score better on dkos. It’s all so ludicrous. What’s she going to do? Fly down to San Juan and have a tryst with Armando, show him her rack, have an on-line catfight with mcjoan to finagle for her front-page spot? Jesus, the possibilities here!

Methinks Elise better pop out of whatever fantasy she’s engaging in. The one who gets off with no scratches is, of course, BigTrystDungbeetle, who plays both women, revels in the attention, and can hide behind his screen and keyboard and play it cool with tired retorts like, “Hey, she flirted with me first.”

Low self-esteem doesn’t begin to describe the lack of ego defenses missing from this picture….

Yes, yes, they do want it. The perfect gig. Their buddies get fat contracts from the weapons and oil lobbies, the social programs are parched drier and drier, yet all the while they will be wide-eyed innocence and insist that there’s nothing they can do. But next time for sure. On and one into infinity…

I wonder how much longer those down below who truly oppose this bloodthirsty machine will be fooled. There is a huge wave of discontent building, just waiting for someone (several, I hope) savvy and fearless enough to come and set fire to it.

92. Sabrina Ballerina - 5 February 2007

Ms xeno I don’t know about anyone else ‘down below’ but this did it for me – we so hoped that they would stop this war – Kos’ post is obviously the planned message from the Dems – ‘we’ll blame it all on them, won’t that be great’ -

It is enraging that they believe we are that stupid – but on the blogs, I expect to see anyone who expresses outrage, be given the DD treatment before too long until the get the message.

……

Earth to Meg, he flirts with several people over there – all the talk of why they ‘criticize’ (bludgeon is a better word) Opol’s diaries being to protect the site from ‘content that doesn’t represent the site appropriately?’ Lol, and they expect to be taken seriously.

That woman’s comments (all over the place not just with him) are certainly not what anyone would want their kids to accidentally come across as representative of a political blog (or at all for that matter). She’s been one of the worst ‘enforcers’ there. The pattern is so obvious.

No wonder the rightwing went after Clinton. I didn’t get it at the time, but it was Democrats who insisted on the laws against ‘office relationships’ , respect for women etc. And here, on the so-called foremost Dem blog this is representative of that respect. You can only laugh at the hypocrisy – ‘the rules, the rules’ – lol

Re Oakie’s defense, the diary was great and so were his/her responses. I’m sure hundreds of people were rooting for him/her and for Thistime -

sorry this thread got so long…. ;)

‘Earth to meg’: Elise and her boyfriend broke up a while back. She’s now living with her sister, or something. She was talking about it. Of course, she could be making the whole thing up in a play for Armando. These people are frightful liars.

It was around the same time as the announcement of the new FPers, of whom she was not one. At that time, there was a significant uptick in her late-night floozy behavior and her rageful bullying, and she continues at that level today. Coincidence? I think not.

you can ask anyone who knows me…apparently I tend to get crushes on assholes.

Why of course, Elise. Because you are one. Some feminist you are, being attracted to bullies who abuse women and screw around on their wives.

Thistime, I recall, first came onto my radar screen during the SLouise battle. He/she butted heads with Armando and the others regarding the abusive Troll Cops who were unfairly targeting some for trollrating while letting the favorites run wild. But criticism of Armando and the Troll Cops is not allowed. You will be labeled a “troll” and “dishonest” and hounded around the site until you finally tell them off in no uncertain terms.

As soon as I was banned, Armando labeled Thistime “the new hrh”. He also hung that label on Chincoteague because she dared to stand up to him. Hmm – I just checked – she hasn’t posted in over a month. Another banning?

As Marisacat described it: “You dare raise your eyes to me?”

Such a liberal/progressive attitude.

recovering kossack,

Re comment #72, it to be that one of the duties of a TU was supposed to be going into Hidden Comments and uprating those that were put there because a couple of people (or one person using two User IDs) had unfairly troll rated something they disagreed with, or a comment posted by someone they had a grudge against. Now it seems if you should uprate an HC by someone who has been determined to be a troll, you yourself get gang-stomped by the resident Hell’s Angels wannabes (maybe we could get them sleeveless denim jackets with really cool looking decals on the back).

The site as it stands now is just an exceedingly lame, unintentional hilarious parody of totalitarian behavior. The thing is I remember people like musing85 and Bob Johnson before they became this sort of pathetic thug. Had you been able to show them, 2 to 3 years ago, just what they would become and what they would be doing today, I’m think they would have been appalled (this is assuming I just didn’t realize what they were really like back then). Just why they opted to take this route . . . I can only guess that a lot of people who either fancy themselves nonconformists or just find themselves out of the mainstream have a longing to be part of the crowd from which they feel alienated, a longing that need not be a conscious one. They’ve found a way to satisfy this longing at Little Orange Footballs, and as those at the top have become more and more desperate to narrow the range of viewpoints expressed at the site, the more frenzied the behavior of this ridiculous, pathetic people has become. I actually feel sorry for them. They really think that what they’re doing is important, that they’re part of some important movement that couldn’t accomplish what it’s accomplished without their efforts.

I have to say that EasternOakie has done an extraordinary job of describing exactly what dKos is, and what is going on there. The comment thread is a textbook example of cognitive dissonance, albeit that which takes place in an environment in which truth is actually being expressed. BTD and the Armandildos are actually rather confused in their behavior, this is someone who is on to them, is able to perfectly describe their little Bizzaro World, and is not the least bit intimidated by them, nor does he care if he’s banned. I find it interesting that they didn’t dare delete that diary entry, though I would imagine they’ve got EasternOkie on a hit list and will be monitoring him/her in the hopes of finding something that can be used for a banning.
