Madman has a post up on our Newest Bestest Friend Ever, Sarkozy:
Sadly, this too seems to put him uncomfortably close with a sizable segment of US society: racist, anti-immigrant, pro oppressive militarized police.
In fact, he’s so rabid in his love of the winger regime running the United States that one wonders how O’Reilly and Limbaugh are going to fill airtime when they can’t make fun of France anymore.
BTW, I read that Sarko wore lifts in his shoes when he met with George Bush, so he would not look too short in the photo (Madman uses the photo from Sarko’s trip to the US).
They want to rise to meet us.
Be very afraid.
***************************************************
UPDATE, 7:09 :: they say it reached 88 here today. It felt like 99.
acmn27 drew my attention to this extremely well informed blogger, Aqoul, linked to at Juan Cole’ s post on Sarkozy.
As per The Lounsbury’s suggestion, and following Ibn Kafka’s extensive coverage of French elections, here are my two cents about them, Beurs, France and the MENA region and related economic bits.
Sunday’s [May 6th] second round will most probably bring Sarkozy to French presidency. I have to say I’m very mixed up about this election. This round’s vote is a matter of either gambling on Sarkozy, and risking what happened with Arab Americans, who happen to have voted George Bush in 2000, or choosing an economically destructive but marginally more risk averse community-wise choice with Segolene.
I fully admit I tore my hair out in ‘00 at the Arab, muslim and ME populations that voted for Bush, as one of the issues we – friends and I – discussed in 2000 out here was
Don’t vote for Bush, even if you are conservative, he plans war, a big brutal war, with Iraq.
It sure did not seem to me to be a secret. One thought of the floor mosaic at the entrance to the al Rashid Hotel in Baghdad told me. We are dealing with very petty people, who constantly act out like vicious, murderous children. A depiction of Bush 41 was implanted in the floor by Saddam, just inside the entrance at the most popular hotel in Baghdad, mostly foreign guests and the diplo class. A regional joke ws photos taken of people trying to step over the mosaic. Or step on it.
As for the voting for Bush in ‘00, well you want a fucking strong man, the USA got one. And I doubt we will ever be rid of some form of strong man, more than it ever was, again.
But as an example, Zogby voted for Bush in ‘00 – and advised his Middlle East association to vote for Bush. Good lord. Fools. PATCO, again. Vote for Reagan and live to rue the day. Live to see Muslim and Arab die for that vote.
The impact on French policies related to the Middle East will be immediate, Sarkozy being close to the CRIJF (check this entry about how French Arabs wasted their political capital with Sarkozy), so his policies are more likely to reflect the US approach to the Middle-East. On internal matters, he has pretty much unleashed cops like pitbulls in the ghettos, on top of France already having one of the worst records in the EU in that regard. Videos like those where you can see cops literally hunting down or beating youth are not exceptional – I even have a couple of private ones – and cops are generally immune. Besides, his economics are not particularly exciting: populist and, in good French tradition, statist.
And this, from Global Research, was linked to at “unleashed cops” in the text above:
The “second class citizens” have been pushed further out of the centres into France’s larger suburbs of Paris, Nice, and Lyon Toulouse, Marseille, Strasbourg and other big cities where their parents once provided cheap labour for France’s factories. The youth are excluded from the French society, and subjected to brutal and Nazi’s-like police harassments, encouraged by racist policies. In its annual report in April 2005, Amnesty International have criticised the “impunity” provided to police and police violent treatments of youth from North African origins during the provocative identity checks. In fact, an Arab or an African man has no right to look a policeman in the face during this deliberate and daily racism faced by young people of colour.

Damn. I guess it’s too late to change my company’s name to something snappier, like Rabid Death Kitties 3000. You know, to facilitate cross-marketing in best UFO Breakfast Squirrel fashion.
Sigh. But Thank You anyway, Mcat. So are we going to see the rest of the VAG League with their stuff posted up here, too ?
yes just think your company could have been
VIPER DEATH
or something similar. A lost chance…
LOL
Maybe lucid can start a side project with that name. Sign on bayprairie as well. They are both guitar players, right ?
BTW, everyone should go groove on the painting MissD did of her feet. I would look up the link but I’m late for my co-op shift. D’oh !!
“You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17 – 1976.”.
Olbermann said 6 British news producers have tried to decipher Her Highness’s reply to George’s latest blooper, to no avail. All Keith could come up with was “Booyah.”
Gawd, Im usually the last one to decipher poor audio. Not my forte. But I think I scored here. I thought I heard it clearly the first time I heard it. And over several rewinds. She said,”You’ll get it.”
Nice lady! And unfailingly hopeful, despite all evidence and all odds.
Cool Miss X – wish I could check out the show. Well, I already have a music publishing company called Demon Kitty Music, so I’m well with the VAGosphere…
I just watched a fantastic doc – again on Sundance – called Sir, No Sir. It was about the GI movement to end the Vietnam war from its beginnings through the mutinies of active duty soldiers, the vociferous protest of discharged veterans, the FTA tours, etc. It was so well done & covered so many aspects of Vietnam protest that have been completely lost to history [including detailing of the complete myth propagated that veterans were mistreated by the anti-war movement in the states - a tired canard I've had thrown in my face at Dkos numerous times]. I highly recommend it for everyone.
Read the Juan Cole on Sarkozy.
Wonder if his ascendancy threatens the nice little moms and pops (meres et peres?) that abound in France – if they are going to be replaced by Le CVS or Le Starbucks or Le Staples…
Saw a NewsHour piece last week on the upcoming election, with one point made re the lifestyle the French are loathe to lose being that of the still entrenched habit of shopping at small neighborhood shops for the daily meal stuffs, for whatever. It was said that laws have kept these from being pushed out by the monster stores we are overrun with here. Was glad to hear it because I always loved that about France, and wasnt sure how much it had changed, as I havent been there for quite some time.
I remember being struck by the contrast between store signs there and here, upon returning from visits. The less commercially enthralled nation (France, bien sur!) had unobtrusive, small store signs, often in delicate script. Upon arriving stateside my view was assaulted by these raging signs everywhere with humongous block letters that relentlessly hollered, “CONSUME!!!” You are home, where captitalism reigns!
It was visual scream. You get sensitized and desensitized.
Congrats ms x – wish I could be there – maybe you’ll do well enough to take the show to NY!
Is Miss D’s painting on her blog? Will go check -
I wonder if George even knows what happened in 1776! I’m sure the Queen does but I doubt she wants to be reminded. What an ass he is!
Just checked Miss D’s blog and saw her ‘feet’ masterpiece here
Resistance in the Vietnam war was instense, even to shoving helicopters off the launch pads of the big destroyers. To say nothing of fragging. Which I feel certain is happening in IRaq.
It will ahve to reach that level again.
Frankly I wish whatshername the anti war campainger the pro USA love to hate… Oh Jane Fonda.. i wish she could tour and campaign with all the vets who support her and know, it is the government that kills people, not protesters.
Beats those dumb stupid movies she is making, there is one out now.
But she is a big $$$$$ supporter of the Democratic party.. and I am sure the rule is, No Jane, thanks we don’t need you. And I agree, alone still hard to sell but iwll tons of vets, peace vets and Vietnam vets…
So, there it goes.
Oops, Miss D’s blog here
Oh, sounds good, LucidC.
I got a postcard to see Yes Sir, No Sir from Vets against the war at the demo I attended last year. Thought it sounded great. It was playing locally at the time, but I didnt catch it. Sundance usually repeats flicks several times over the month, so I’ll take the opportunity to see it. Great channel, Sundance. Have been taking advantage since I got it several years ago in my cable revamp.
NYCee thanks for the translation, I think you have it.
Unfortunately I think George got off a good line, the one about child/mother.
**********
Oh sadly the mom pop business has been under assault. there is consolidaton going on for some years. VERY sad. Hotels, cafes, restaurants and WORSE, bar-tabacs being shut down, absorbed.
Heartbreaking.
but a lot of small businesses (and masons, plumbers, electricians etc) are said to have voted for Sarkozy…. the whole 35 hour thing roped them in. But that is not all that Sarko plans, that was the hook and they have been running that for years, 8 that I know of. A huge campaign to mask other things they plan.
NYCee – from the site it looks like it’s screening at Brooklyn College in a couple of days if you’re in town. They only list the 9pm screening this evening on Sundance though.
Mcat – the interesting thing for me watching it [due to my age] is that though I do know a fair amount of history about Vietnam protest, it is all the non-vet stuff. I certainly knew about VVAW, ‘low troop moral’, fragging, ‘isolated mutinies’, but I had no idea how widespread the movement was among active duty soldiers thanks to the very well documented erasure of the movement from popular culture.
ms_xeno – I missed that that was you with the show. Good going! Hope the experience is fruitful and fun. Your work is so unique. So YOU. Saw it earlier via a link thru your blog, I think.
Have you shown a lot before?
ms_xeno–I’ll try to send allies from the Portland area.
lucid, agree, it is simply not talked about, how widespread with in the mil, and in theatre. Gone. Removed from living memory.
What a pity.

On another note… LOL checked in with MewM thread at Booman… Think it was 82. I had linked to it whne it was 4 comments, iirc.
Glad to send Martin the traffic.
Whoever “MewM” is, if he is a law student, on his way to being a third tier atty. Why break the Dkos – BBBlahg mold now.
And I loved all the posters taking issue with Kos and the Dems. Where do they think they are? at BMT… a site that slavishly follows the mantra to elect Dems. Little burbles from the crib, here and there on things IT WILL NOT CHANGE as it does not, nor do the blogs, assert real, sustained pressure, nor can it as long as it hosts useless candidates who don’t even bother to answer questions.
IMO the Blahgs are tied to Reid, Rahm and Nancy. Schumer. No matter what they say. They are product push. DCCC and DSCC.
Geesh at least at FDL there ws some push back at the uesless visit recently of Hillary. Limited to one topic and it was dull dulll dull. Poeple did openly ask, what is the purpose?.
The internet is like water, you cannot force people to drink. Even when dying of thirst.
they did not come in the darkness
nor silently tread into our homes
no one can call them typical thieves
when they sit in an open hall
adorned with statuary and crushed velvet
two chambers and one oval office
in conflict yet working in concert
stealing our nation slowly across the decades
squandering our blood for ashes and tears
while the busy consumers worry only about
the bills constantly coming due
and someone elses morality
the children! we must protect the children!
if their mothers die? it must be god’s will
god’s will be done even if it creates hell on earth
and the few wept while the many mumbled
and did nothing while the crime was done
unseen before three hundred million witnesses
they did not come in the darkness
nor silently tread into our homes
no one can call them typical thieves

Hey Martin,
Get that? I find MerM’s argument on pro-choice people being non-progressive’s compelling.
I can only conclude that you find his argument compelling (although, upon reflection, it’s fairly obvious that you’ve failed to even understand his argument). It’s not as if you’ve been refuting it or attacking him.
I will admit that I believe anyone who considers you to be an ally (besides the operatives on the centrist blogs who laugh at you in secret) is a fool. You couldn’t fight your way out of a beer soaked paper bag.
Same goes for my girlfriend. Thanks, Colleen, for not posting her name and employer. That’s progress.
You’re confused. It’s your gf who called me a “paranoid schizophrenic”. The fact that she spelled it correctly I attribute entirely to her use of spell check.
Perhaps you’re the one who is…mentally troubled. I have not published anyone’s name or employer. Nor, unlike you, have I published bad porn in which the main subject is a good and decent woman you and your friends have been savaging for sport for a good long while now. Nor have I openly embraced those who use words like “cunt” or so pathetically begged for acceptance from the DK crowd.
I’m trying to think …
Oh spare yourself the effort.
Congrats miss_xeno! meant to say that before, but the spellchecker popped the poem out before I was done with the post. hope no one minds if I show off what gets done in my spare time. poetry is dead, but I hope your stuff sells like crazy miss_x
Kevin
marisacat, Sabrina and (lol)BHHM,
From last thread, thank you for the instructions on linking and blockquoting. BHHM, I’m still laughing at your advice, and will use it when quoting the inept, great white hunters.
marisacat,
Yes, that “unleashed cops” link brought back my outrage over 2005. What is wrong with the thinking of the Arab French? I was dumbstruck by that. Wasted political capital is a serious understatement. BTW, good on you for your warning in 2000!
NYCee…
oops I should add a line that this is ms_xeno… thanks for that!
kevin
do you have that posted at your blog?
if so let me have the link…
ms_xeno–noon til closing?–do not overcaffeinate!
kevin-poetry is not dead. like many, I suspect, I am glad when I get cornered into reading it. takes more patience than prose, and we are very impatient folks.
speaking of poetry–I haven’t seen RubDMC’s Iraq witness stuff at bmt for awhile. He mentioned there was a reason for the hiatus, that he’d later explain.
liberalcatnip (from the last thread),
Thank you for the welcome. Nice to meet you!
acmn27–catnip is a brazen hussy. always was, always will be.
tech question: (and yes, it is for nefarious purposes) if someone posts something on youtube, is there anyway of saving the feature and modifying it?
ms_xeno,
I wish I lived close enough to be there. Good luck.
We have a wonderful coffee roaster/shop here that displays area artists’ work, and I spend so much time there (no, I’m not an artist). I also buy my delicious coffee from them. Mostly fair trade and organic, and these people truly know how to roast.
missdevore,
Cute feet!
you ought to see them in a pair of clitlickers. (hope you have lurked long enough to contextualize that comment!)
acmn… well i really valued the post from Aqoul.. but lordy sounded like he or she might vote for Sarko.
You just canot vote for the right. If the so called left or liberal is not acceptable to you then, to me, the ethical move is to withhold the vote.
I just cannot see voting for the Rightie. For one, their real plans are far far worse than what they will advertise. Like the big stick of the 35 hour week, they got TONS of votes using that. But is so little of what they plan.
As in Casey. For one.
I heard today (PBS News Hour) that Sarko got a lot of the 25 – 35 vote, broke even with 35 – 45 and lost votes from the Soixante Huit (the “68″ generation) and apparently lost a lot from the elderly. But he did well across worker groups, wealthy, management, which they feel gives them a BIG mandate.
missdevore,
I certainly hope to one day. And, yes, I have actually been a lurker long enough for contextualizing that one; and I LOVE it! All of you have brought many moments of laughter in my past several months of lurking around your corners.
Marisa
just posted it at the Ugly Truth-Teller, but I have no idea how to link anything other than my belt loops
just go to kevinelynch.wordpress.com and look up “these united states; a poem”
wordpress won’t let me double space between the first and second line for some reason. so it looks like I’m a rank amateur, which is true
thanks for taking the time

Sssshhhh…that’s supposed to be our little secret. (winkwink)
Congrats on the show, ms x! If I start riding my mountain bike now, I might make it in time – if they let me cross the border, that is. (You know they inspect lunch bags these days. What’s a hungry biker to do?)
MCclatchy had an article that McCaskill is running into some chill from Dem leadership, she is pushing the earmark issue, as she ran on it. Partnered iwth Demint (R-TN) on what (so I read) is a pretty decent bill to clean up the game… make it transparent… Also pressure from Kit Bond.
I have no real problme with occasional earmarks that go for real need, that benefit a community. But as an example with all the fucking earmark money floating around, there should be pools and rec halls in all the inner city tough challenged neighborhoods.
To just lay it down on the line. Not like “Midnight basket ball” ever made it to full reality. Or much of any reality. Or that HeadStart was ever fully funded.
So yeah it gets old.
oh and pools and rec halls for rural areas too.
falling behind here, for years.
I posted a blurb from this on my blog.
Remaking the Peace Movement – The Democrats Don’t Own the Antiwar Movement
Kevin, that is a wonderful poem , thanks for posting it – I especially liked this …
while the busy consumers worry only about
the bills constantly coming due
and someone elses morality
Yes, the moralists and we’ve seen the hypocrisy of many of those ‘do as I say, not as I do’ types like Foley, but he’s already forgotten and with no consequences while his the bill he co-sponsored will send others without his connections, to jail! It should be named the The Foley Bill as a reminder. Defense attorneys and juries should question the legitimacy of a bill written by a man guilty of the very crimes his bill was supposed to address. We need a new word, hypocrisy just doesn’t cover it all anymore.
catnip that’s a great link to follow. i thought about posting it too!
i ran across the link earlier tonight in a paine’d comment at SMBIVA.
SMBIVA should really franchise their site concept. I thought about this last night. You could have “Stop Me Before I TalkLeft Again” or “Stop Me Before I LeftWing Again”, even “Stop Me Before I ClownBlog Again.
great idea!!
Stop Me Stop Me!
Thanks for the nice words, all. NYCee, this is my second year in this particular shop. Have been in a few other retail places and open exhibits but never a juried show.
acmn, you should get out here. We love our art and our coffees. It’s the out-of-they-way places that offer the best bargains for both.
catnip, we’ll fatten you up on Parisian macaroons when you get here. And wear your helmet. Oregonians drive like maniacs, and that includes the bikers.
LOL, bayprairie. Suggest that to Paine next time he visits. I vote for souvenier beer steins and shot glasses instead of lanyards, though.

She’s moving to Fairfax, VA in case any of you in that area want to dump a Welcome Wagon casserole on her head–or worse-her shoes.
Or ’stop me before I click on a dk link again’. I love that blog, btw, some great writing there and with humor. And ms xeno’s post was a tour de force –
I still think we need a central clearing blog for real progressive blogs. Speaking of which, when reading at Talkleft, I came across this from one of the commenters. It’s a post at MYDD outlining the rules for getting ‘in’ to their Liberal Blog Advertising Network.
Combined with Bowers’ little diatribe about ‘diversity’ today, their attitude, the disrespect they exhibit on a regular basis for members or would-be members of their sites, makes me wonder why anyone would even want to be a part of this group.
Liberal Blog Advertising Network Membership Criteria
It’s not that there’s anything wrong with having a criteria for members of an advertising network. What’s wrong is their arrogant, impatient, snide attitude as though they were superior or something. They remind me of those exclusive, all-white golf clubs who also had certain criteria. I always wondered why any black person would even want to join, and wouldn’t be better off starting their own clubs, with their own criteria excluding arrogant pricks from membership, everyone else welcome.
They have so often issued the proclamation ‘if you don’t like it here go somewhere else, start your own’. They should be careful what they wish for. I think that is going to happen but without the backing of the Dem Party. And it is sorely needed. I wish I could remember the name of the guy on MLW who offered to do the tech stuff for a site that was really progressive. I think I’m ready to help him out if he’s still interested.
from canada.com via rawstory:
“LONDON (AP) – The chance that an Iraqi child will live beyond age five has plummetted faster than anywhere else in the world since 1990, said a report released Tuesday, which placed the country last in its child survival rankings.
One in eight Iraqi children died of disease or violence before reaching their fifth birthday in 2005, said the report by Save the Children, which said Iraq ranked last because it had made the least progress toward improving child survival rates. “
there are other blog groups on BLogAds.. if people were really oppsoed to Dkos and the games they woould find another advertising “hive”.
Plenty to choose from.
LOL

you posted the comment of the guy who was thinking about a big blog for non aligned… maybe sometime in Feb…

But…I got some fab $2 used clodhoppers that are uber sexy and a really really cute old, ripped, paint-splattered jogging suit (out of my closet) which looks so fab on my it’s not even funny…seriously…well yes it is funny…oh I can’t make up my fab mind (giggle). I was so excited about the shopping this weekend I didn’t even mind I was with my fab delusions.
Anyway…the fab tub is cleaned, so that’s good and I’m unpacking from the move a couple of weekends ago and that’s fab too because I took mcat’s fab advice and painted my boxes beforehand to match the fab rooms here. So it was all, like, fab.
How was yours? Was it fab too?
Read fab catnip and you can be fab too.

How fab – I’m totally wowed! She and Condy have a lot in common.
And Rudy, he loves and applauds that kind of ‘activism’. ‘Go shopping’, he told NYers when they worried about a possible terror attack (they were a little spooked being there had already been one, and a few uncovered plots to blow up subways, and definite warnings about the WTC being a target again). Rudi’s solution was to not let those terrorists win! NYC, he said, was the safest city in the world, eight months before 9/11! Go Shopping, show them! And that was the extent of his advice after 9/11 also.
Yeah, Miss D (#43). That’s why I’m sick of the manipulative whinging of shills like Marcotte. Oh, but we have to vote Dem for the overseas family planning. Yeah, dispense a spoonful of love from one hand and a torrent of death and destruction from the other. Great way to run a political party, people.
Disingenuous, manipulative fuckers. They can take their guilt-mongering and cram it up their do-nothing asses. >:
catnip, we’ll fatten you up on Parisian macaroons when you get here. And wear your helmet. Oregonians drive like maniacs, and that includes the bikers.
I loathe my helmet. Maybe I should do a ms x inspired collage on it. Back in “the day”, we weren’t all nutso about all of this head wound protection gear. We flew by the seat of our pants (or some other metaphor…). Anyway, I didn’t wear a bike helmet until I was in my 40s and trying to find one that didn’t make me look like the biggest flipping old lady dork on the streets was rather challenging. I painted mine forest green so it would blend in with the trees. “Where’s that lady’s head, mama?”
Now I can’t stop imagining Miss D and Sabrina as Patsy and Edina. Oh, woe…
Stop me before I fab again!
Better a live dork than a dead duck, my dear Canuck.

Well here goes, for all you women out there (and men of course) I went shopping too and I got some fab snake-skin clitlickers with ankle straps that are uber sexy (I swear, you have to seeeee them to believe it) and a really really cute dress with a slit in the back (well, it is second hand, I bought it at the thrift shop) which looks so fab on me it really is funny! I’m an action kind of gal as y’all know but I’m a little exhausted though, how about you all? Tell us about your fab weekend. I’m partial to those mango-colored Hummers myself. Truly an alarming number of them all over town.
“Mango Hummer” either could be an exotic drink popular in a tony district like Portland’s Pearl or it could be slang for some particularly unBiblical sexual practice all those DC guys paid a hundred extra for when (ahem) “ordering their pizza.”
Oh, and I just had another cross-marketing brainstorm, Mcat. Observe that jar of walnut topping in the art card. If any more BBB’s give you trouble, just tell them that jar is full of preserved genitalia from all the male bloggers who visit here– delicately flavored with a bit of corn syrup, of course.
Feel better in the AM. I’m going to have a bit of lemonade ‘n vodka before hitting the sack.
#28marisacat,
That’s exactly how I read it. this part here:
That, and the final paragraph where he/she is giving them apologetic economic reasons to vote that way! I thought that was very interesting, how people can justify voting against their own interests; not only here in our screwed up political landscape, but in elsewhere.
Simply amazing! Unless you are a corporatist, invested in the military industrial complex, or an out and out racist, why would you vote for the right??? Especially after the RIGHT has sent out the black-shirts against your own people?
Marisacat, thanks – sorry about the heat. That’s why I love this time of year – we’ll be just as hot in July and I’m not looking forward to it!
I was going to post some info on the rotten-to-the-core Dept. Of Justice – the body count is now at four for US Attorneys who were not playing along with the Bush administration. Two brutal murders still unsolved and investigations blocked by Bush’s henchmen, and two, imo, suspicious deaths in their homes. The more I read about what was going on there the more angry I get.
I was thinking, as I read about the Election Fraud that was being perpetrated by the DOJ how futile all of our efforts were to try to protect the vote. I knew they were criminals, but I could not have imagined just how criminal they were. We never had a chance really. I wonder can we talk about stolen elections now? Kos???
Hey, I got the blockquote thing to work (patting myself on the back).
liberalcatnip: lol!
I have this fab People mag you can borrow to calm you down… Paris in jail! Can you imagine? (snort)
Oh Yay! Thank you, really, I am so totally in shock, I mean will she have to wear those icky orange jumpsuits? I mean I look totally awful in orange. I mean seriously, our prison system should have a totally different color for women – if you want to take action about our prison system, I’m the action gal! Lol! So here’s a link to a totally awesome site about the rights of women in prison http://www.womenneedbluejumpsuits.com. I mean let’s at least get our Dem colors in there! I am so angry about how women are treated – so call your local prison, tell them that orange sucks. Take action!

I cannot remmeber whose bright idea that was, only that Sabrina posted the comment, and I am pretty sure i Pulled it up into the next post
It was interesting.
I have heard, just today that some people are thinking of a non aligned central blog. Not sure how developed or who is doing what so til I hear more (someone jsut dropped me an email) we’ll just wait… but the emailer has been banned at Dkos and at DU and seems pretty motivated…
I, literally, keep a running advisory in my head: don’t kill anyone, you look LOUSY in orange.
I am so angry about how women are treated – so call your local prison, tell them that orange sucks. Take action!
I am so angry about orange jumpsuits that I can’t even talk about them right now!

here is the link to Kevin’s poem
Hey guys, completely off topic, but what do think of this for the new bio of my band. [Of course none of the new music is up yet, as I haven't copyrighted it yet.]

Here’s the new bio:
You did get it to work acmn27 – congrats!
Stop me before I write any more stupid posts!
Btw, ms xeno, I know I got an email from you and my email is such a mess, I can’t find it to respond, so if you get one back that doesn’t make sense, it’s because I’m doing it from memory!
*******
Robert Kennedy Jr.: Arkansas US Attorney, Timothy Griffen should get jailtime for his role in election fraud.
I think Greg Palast is persona non grata at DK. I have never seen a link to any of his incredible and thoroughly researched and sourced articles on the FP of that blog. I hope they realize now that it was people like Palast who were desperately trying to warn the American people about election fraud, while they, Kos et al, helped the likes of Griffin laugh at the fact that Palast was being ignored by the MSM. He was also being ignored by the Biggest Liberal Blog on the internet. Shame on all of them!! They were complicit. Griffin would be grateful for their assistance in helping him cover up the fraud.
In preparation for just such an investigation, Kyle Sampson, former aide to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, wrote a confidential email, dated December 19, 2006 outlining a strategy to stall Congress’ from questioning the propriety of the Griffin appointment. “We should gum this to death,” wrote Sampson, “Ask the senators to give Tim a chance . . . then we can tell them we’ll look for other candidates, ask them for recommendations, evaluate the recommendations, interview their candidates, and otherwise run out the clock. All of this should be done in ‘good faith,’ of course.”
Sampson has since resigned.
Palast said, “Just as Rove is known as ‘Bush’s brain,’ Griffin is ‘Rove’s Brain.’ I’m flattered by his ‘review.’”
Palast first reported on the caging list operation for BBC Television’s premier current affairs show, Newsnight, in 2004. In a February 7, 2007 email obtained by subpoena from Rove’s office, Griffin boasted that, “No [US] national media picked up” the BBC story. Griffin attached an excerpt of Armed Madhouse.
Griffin sent his remarks to Monica Goodling, Senior Counsel to Attorney General Gonzales, who has since resigned and invoked the Fifth Amendment rather than answer Congressional questions.
Kudos to the real liberal bloggers, like Greg Palast who was actually trying to save this nation from the criminal coup d’etaters while kos and his pals were painting people like him, real journalists, as ‘conspiracy theorists’.
I guess I should also say, it needs the bravado of a rock band, but the insight of a critic. Does it sound like what I say?
Anyhow, just played my favorite kitty game… put the new sheets on the bed.
I see Bowers really dug himself into a hole… proclaiming that
Then of course Stoller jumped in the hole with both shovels, but still couldn’t get themselves extracted…. then Bowers got a bigger shovel (you can always tell when Bowers hasn’t a clue about what he is talking about… he just drones on and on hoping that people give up reading his drivel… and never get to to point where they find out ….he has no point.
So now it seems that they have pulled in a resident appropriately “exotic” female to helped them out of the hole by standing on her shoulders….hope they at least wipe their feet first.
Palast has been fantastic on American election fraud. He basically proved that Gore had won Florida outright in 2000 by about 40,000 votes. Whenever I would bring that up on Dkos… crickets…mellow cello music… crickets…. an after dinner Mojito… sleep.
Their Bev Harris dismissal was disgusting as well. I was was actually involved with the Bev Harris preservation of Diebold data after the 2000 election. She’s not an easy person to work with, but she was doing damned good work – and damned damning work.
Bingo
No ethics.
Now I can’t stop imagining Miss D and Sabrina as Patsy and Edina. Oh, woe…
Ms x, who are Patsy and Edina? I’m not sure if it’s a compliment or not! Lol!
Acmn27, yes, that post from elise is for real. ‘Feminisssmissms or whatever the hell they call it, is what passes for feminist issues on dk. She and her co-hort, the ever boring and unfailingly nasty misslaura are the self designated (and not surprisingly kos approved) spokespersons for women on dk.
Are you now willing to delurk and get involved in the ‘moooovement’? You too can shop! You now have permission to stuff your closet with sexy clothes, your drawers with sexy underwear and your shoe closet with lots and lots of sexy boots! Lol!
Bet you didn’t know that women who care about women’s issues ever even heard of sex, let alone shopped for sexy clothes, until dk and it’s women’s advocates told you so!
That is vintage elise (which doesn’t really bother me), it is her nastiness, thuggery and deceptive ‘I’m so fun and sexy’ pretentions that make her typical of the dk diary thugs that bother me. I can’t think of a better punishment for her male counterparts than that they fall for this ‘I’m just a girl who wants to have fun’ and end up with her or someone like her, because no one deserves it more.
Kossack men, like kos himself, cannot handle honest, intelligent women – they prefer the fifties version of what women are supposed to be. Although I have a feeling that anyone who falls for that act, will be in for a very big shock!
Lucid, I think that is fantastic! Really, I’m not just saying that. I cannot listen to sound (still haven’t gotten around to trying what you suggested) but is there a cd I could buy? The description of the female singer really sounds wonderful. I think you did a great job.
Btw, there is a place in the Hamptons called ‘Stevens Talkhouse’ I think it is in Amagansett, very exclusive area. They have live music every night in the summer and each night a different band I think. I have heard that places like this will hire new, not-yet-known bands during the week (and probably on the weekends also). I wouldn’t be surprised either if scouts for recording cos stop in there to find new sounds as it is a very popular place in the summer. Maybe you should send them info and a demo, or give them a call. Just a thought and of course, if you did get to play there, I could go. It’s not that far from here.
lucid
ya want an honest opinion? OK. when you record again, find another producer. there’s all this raving going on about your live shows, but the stuff on myspace sounds pale. yes, you have a good technical thing going but it sounds like rehearsal. the passion doesn’t shine through! vocals sound like Grace Slick – acid. lead sounds proficient yet chilly. base sounds like he’s playing Simon Says with the lead. the drummer is too hip for the room. definitely lacking the fire talked about from the live shows
I’ll believe the live reviews, try and capture it in the studio
Kevin (lead singer for Onyx and the John Menley Express, ret.)
Sabrina,
You know what’s really funny? When I found DK a couple years ago I didn’t know much about blogs. I spent my online time reading the more alternative newsy sites, like Counterpunch, Alternet, etc. So, I find this blog, check out the diaries on topics that interested me, one being voting irregularities. Then I would check the comments (something rather new to me).
Well, I would see this vitriol, this bashing of the diary itself, lashing out at commenters who were interested in the topic, and shutting down all dialogue.
You know what I thought? I thought, “This place has been taken over by right-wingers. Why don’t they just kick them the hell out of here?” It seems naive, I know, but that is what I thought. And, that’s the reason I never really wanted to participate in commenting anywhere. It was intimidating.
I think the agenda at Dkos (and the related sites, any that consider themselves, or ever did, to relate to Dkos) to be pretty dark.
Which then indicates that the agenda of the Dem leadership is dark as well.
I just don’t see anything else.
Marisa
thanks for making the link! e-mail me some instructions for future do-it-yourself action =) if you can beat the heat
Kevin
I think “dark” is a fitting term. It would explain my very deep distress, near to horror, at the political, social and economic rhetoric and, especially, the system it supports. Dark indeed.
I’m not an easy person to bring down. I’m usually one of the most upbeat people in the room. But what I’ve seen happening around me in the last few years…..
In summer of 2004 I pointed out to DavidNYC (who is one of the 4 who “selects” the candidates that Dkos will support along with Kos Bowers and Armstrong – DavidNYC is Swing State Project) I mentioned that there was NO strong left liberal rhetoric on the FP. NONE. This was in a thread to a Slacker Inc diary. S Inc if you missed him is a real asshole, but also indicative o fthe place.
I thought David was going to lose his mind. He trailed after me from thread to thread, nearly harrassing me.
I had, without naming names, made it clear that DHinMI never wrote from a liberal basis, DemFromCT only ever excerpted NYT or WSj or WashPo … WTF? I should bother to read major media on the FP of Dkos? And I made a few other points as well..
And Marie who has recently shown up here at Mcat (she and colleen and JJB predate me at Dkos, I arrived Nov 2002) ws the first, that I saw, to call them on being Republicans.
Sumemr of 2004 she said to DH and some assembled bright red multitude, that they were all but Rovian. forget the exact wording, but she did use ‘Rove”. She meant more than style, too.
They JUST LOST IT. Big time. All sorts of people chased Marie over that one. People that one might not expect. It was extremely mean. And relentless…
Myself, I think, after all the years, they are reactionaries. From various backgrounds… and clearly authoritarians. There certainly is a Catholic cabal, and strong anti rights core… and so on
And the likes of the “satellite sites” MLW and BMT (and others) are just putty for them to push around. and those are not the only sites that play along.
Quite the game it has been.
In 2002/3 I looked up in the public listings checking on some of the ‘country club Republican” families I went to school with. It was clear they were moving their money to the Dems, not just a 2K check to a candidate… no, candidates and DNC and the various funding groups that undergird the campaign system. One was clearly giving around 100K a year. His son (a little older than I am) nearly that, and one daughter around 50 K year.
Nice people and so on… mostly moderate to liberal.. but very Main Street. And the party is happy to pick up people like that and shove my sort out the door.
I feel pretty hopeless about it, frankly.
Kevin… if you google for “html tutorial” you will find a lot of simple straight forward online pages that will clearly explain the basics.
here is linking… now to do it for real (and this is why your comment the other day had a large section fall off, the little arrows are operational) you replace the brackets with the little arrows that are on the keys iwth the comma and period:
[a href="URL"]here write the words you want visible[/a]
That was enlightening on many levels and, oh yes, some of the names stood out for me. It certainly explains what I thought I was witnessing, from the perspective of someone who knew nothing of these people. The rabid authoritarianism, the pack mentality, the “my way or the highway” attitude; this was by design then.
As for the Dems, I know they have no need for people like me. They don’t even pretend anymore. So, they have been preening themselves to attract the disgruntled Republicans and moderates, and that is what we see being supported at places like DK.
When treated to the morning dazzle, the beautiful colors and textures of sunrise, it is supposed to come from the East, no??
To wake up at 4:30 in the morn in the NorthEast and see something so beautiful out of the Northwest like ms xeno’s work is one stellar eye opener indeed.
I “know” little of art, my RL work is more salvage in nature than it is creative, but in it I do know something about the patience, skill, and craft of the artisan. Like the last bit of the wondrous child that I refuse to relinquish as part of my soul, or a starving man amidst widespread cultural famine, I am drawn to the nourishment of the wordsmith, the artist, the musician.
It’s just beautiful , ms xee… 3000 miles away and the textures and colors, the delicate and deliberate nature of your work….
Just beautiful , ms xee.

ms xeno, I looooove your collages!
DKos is all agog this morning about female genital mutilation. Funny that they can’t seem to muster much outrage when it comes to, say, anti-choice candidates or the SC “partial birth abortion” decision.
I’m just catching up here on the Armando piece on the Grauniad blog. LOL!!! Miss D, this is a truly fine comment:
Well done!
I enjoy watching people like Armando trying to pretend to be rational pundits. It’s like the alcoholic wifebeater trying to pass himself off as a Pillar of the Community at the local Kiwanis meeting.
It’s amusing, too, that they think we’ve forgotten about their offensiveness. Or perhaps they think we’ve been locked up in some dusty cell where our voices are silenced forever. Not so, boys and girls. We don’t forget and we don’t forgive, and we’re not afraid to speak the truth about you.
svix–they are so outraged they can’t talk about it.
The Elise “fab” comment is a perfect encapsulation of her inanity.
There was a Southside Johnny album entitled At Least We Got Shoes. That would appear to be the political philosophy of Elise.
I kinda doubt Armando will be writing much for the Guardian blog – he’s unable to control the comments and he won’t be able to run screaming to Mama whenever someone slaps him.
So very tough and brutal, but he can’t handle criticism – and he doesn’t even have the gumption to start his own blog! It all reminds me of Gertrude Stein (in the guise of Alice B Toklas) making fun of Hemingway’s machoness – can’t remember the exact quote but it goes like: “Poor Hem, he is so fragile, always falling down and breaking something”. “Poor Hem” was enraged beyond belief and never forgave her.
cannot for the life of me understand TL’s status, unless because it is linked by many of the BBB’s. TChris had an article entitled “Phil Spector’s Burden”, which, though was ultimately discussing the burden of proof in Spector’s trial-is such a tin-eared title, it had me thinking of “The White Man’s Burden” Not quite sure if his argument resonates much–Spector’s past behavior of pulling guns on women should have no bearing in this trial. Um, it’s one thing to say–yeah I did drugs in high school, but that shouldn’t have any bearing on my comportment 20 years later. Pulling guns on women, and aiming them at their face isn’t like a little phase one goes through.
misread this headline as “altar boy at Disney helps corral sex convict”
“Hey Father Morris!”
# Alert boy at Disney helps corral sex convict”
I’ve been checking around this morning, doing a little research. The bust was picked up on CNN today, the DemMint campaign dough has not hit the MSM yet. Here’s what I got
Major Demint Contributor Busted for 140mil Fraud
Albert E Parish Jr, an economics professor at the Charleston Southern University has been busted and charged with fraud for bilking private investors out of aproximately 140 Million Dollars. Charleston Southern University is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. The university’s mission is noted as “promoting academic excellence in a Christian environment to all faiths”. Parish entered a psychiatric facility shortly before his arrest indicating he was suffering from amnesia. On April 7, 2007 Parish was named in a CIVIL SUIT last month by the SEC.
At least someone benefitted from Parish’s loot. According to FEC Records, South Carolina Republican Sen James DeMint recieved a $1000 individual contribution from the Parish that was funnelled through Parish’s firm, Parish Economics, LLC.
Irony of irony’s , the charged frauster, Mr Parish donated to then South Carolina Attorney General Charlie Conon’s bid for the GOP Senate nod in a primary against. DeMint. South Carolina Attorney General Condon was (and still is) noted on the National Investor Fraud Center’s website . In 2000, Condon was a key Bush supporter in the states pivotal Republican primary.
Well if today is show and tell, here’s a link to some tracks I recorded with a band of sorts I played with for a year or so, then quit, around ‘90. The singer, just rereleased a collection of said projects greatest “hits”; I played guitar on one LP, featured on six of the twelve tracks on the new release. The last track on the myspace page, Neon Angel, is the best track imo, definitely the most accessible, as they say, written about Cherie Curry, singer of 70’s teenage girl rock band The Runaways>, who wrote an autobiography with the same title, which I haven’t read yet. A teenaged Joan Jett was also in the Runaways, btw.
Enter a psych facility, suffering from amnesia, before your arrest–that is so much better than pleading alcoholism after your arrest!
I hear the DSM has renamed amnesia “Gonzales Syndrome.”
Kev – well… I’m the producer & the engineer. The fault of sounding slightly washed out is I could never figure out the phase issues on the drums – something I’ve since discovered is inherent to plugin and bus management in the older version of Pro Tools I use, but there is a fix. The new album doesn’t have this problem. That said – everything sounds washed out on myspace – streaming mp3’s all sound hollow. I’m a vinyl snob myself.
Also on the first album, everyone else in the band wanted to strip down the sound – make it more demo sounding. Whereas I usually tend to stack guitars & guitar harmonies & produce the crap out of it, on the first album I never have more than two guitars at once.
For something more representative of the newer material, check out the first song at the sonic bids link.
I never get why people come up with Grace Slick for a comparison to the singer. She is much more a blend of Joni Mitchell and Bruce Dickinson. Then again I’ve worked with her since she was 20, so I have kind of a unique perspective.
BHHM
I will email you Madman’s addy, you can ask him yourself.
Was it shegald on mlw who thunk up non-alligned clearing house blog concept maybe?
shergald, I mean
#84. Loved AbFab!
Bowers white male niche is just fine with him. (Okay, I didn’t read it all. I slipped into a coma half way through but the thrust is obvious, as KO notes in the comments.)
Well, you know what? It would have helped if someone would have defined “progressive” along the way. When I was a thorn in the side of dkos, I kept asking for a definition of that word because so much of what I saw there was stagnant – not progressive. I never got a clear answer. It was more like, “who cares? We’re the k3wl “progressive” kids now.”
So, it’s no accident that diversity is not a progressive value for people like Bowers to aspire to. That’s for someone else with that “niche” to deal with while he pretends he doesn’t know how to increase diverse views on his own site. (No brainer, one would think and similar to MOB’s whining that he hasn’t been able to find a female FPer for over a year now because no one seems to qualify or wants to do the job.)
It’s a white man’s revolution. Just how far will that get you, boyz?
Jam.fuse – that looks like a damn cool band to have played with. I’ve met Bob before in association with Knoxville Girls. I think we might have some friends in common…
I’ll listen to the cut when I get home [no speakers at work].
liberal catnip
did you miss a gilas girl on Dkos, who only explained “progressive” about 5000 times. And then the next day would explain it again, 5000 times.
ad nauseum.
Frankly I never liked the word progressive myself. Tho the Dem party has struggled to use it after “liberal” somehow grew anthrax spores 30 years ago.
The boyz are so despeerate to be a movement. When they are a campaign/booster arm of the party.
What a struggle.
SV
thanks for the link to the Guardian article. I could never get beyond his bio page. Nothing on links for articles would open.
LOVED the comments.
I would agree on ‘progressive’ Mcat. I even found it a bit smarmy when I was working for the New Party & we would call the ideology ‘progressive populism’…
Look, I’m a leftist, plain & simple & that is fine with me.
wondering how this thing with the New Jersey “jihadists” will turn out…it seems they played paintball in the Pocono mountains, and were arrested when they attempted to purchase weapons.
The Florida guys got as far as getting boots, remember.
And then those “Bama militia boys. Charged with bein’ Boys who will Be BOys … not a whiff of terra terra terra in the charges. last Iheard, anyway…
Mcat – you should know that it’s only terrorism if it is commited against white people.
well one reason “hate crime” sort of bothers me. I accept special circumstances which attach to something tangible (killing a police officer, etc), there are ways to charge for/handle intensely brutal crimes, esp at the sentencing recommendation level… etc. If we charged to the full extent possible when crimes are to assault a person’s Civil Rights, I just dislike the whiff of “thought crime” that comes off “hate crime”.
Same iwth “terror” and “war on terror”.
I’ve always had issues with ‘hate crime’ legislation as well. Murder is murder. Assault is assault… sentence based on the crime & hey maybe try to rehabilitate and educate the person while they’re in the system. Justice is not about retribution, it’s about balance & balance is achieved by bringing someone back into the community, not excluding them.
and it turns out condi rice was helping saddam and chevron in her own special way:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-ballinger/condi-snoozed-while-chevr_b_47926.html
and only a day after another chevron ad appears under the dk banner. way to collect your blood money markos!
the hypocrisy is stunning. yet they want to boycott who?
poisonally more guilty of love crimes
I think anyone who promotes Chevron should be boycotted. The incredibly stupid claim that taking ads from such people is actually a good strategy because ‘let them waste their money’ is such, deliberately twisted logic. They have no ethics.
It’s like Obama taking money now from former Bush pioneers and again DK thinks this is wonderful. The same people who supported this war by supporting with money, war-mongering profiteers. Obama is now beholden to them. But to the dim-wits on dk, this is some kind of victory.
Jam.fuse, I can’t listen to the band (no sound) but when I get to another computer, I will definitely check it out. We have such talented people here – would love to hear you play, do you play anywhere in NY?
jam.fuse – so are you a black widow?
Hey it could be another moniker for the VAG’s.
i doubt it too. the comments are much too real-world for someone who’s had 4 years of kosblowjob thread-praise to really handle.
all boyos by definition prefer the couch in the underwear with the beer in hand and the game on tv, to actually playing real ball. blogging is no different. boyos can’t handle a real field for long because they can’t censor, erase, and control the comments, or bully and double-team their antagonists, nor can they selectively rewrite, or delete, posts after the fact. blogging on an unprotected forum will be too much work.
“you’re witty” — “MOB”
whitish yellow widowmakerer
figuratively speaking
Take a wild guess who wrote this brilliant screed (and yes, that was dripping with sarcasm):
Hint: pondscum
What in the hell? Not to me he hasn’t — running a successful campaign doesn’t mean shit to me, except maybe that you are a fucking sleazeball insider who, once elected, will do her/his damndest to get RE-elected not matter who fall by the wayside in the meantime.
Fuck that shit.
Oh my Goddess, the more I read of Bowers, the more astounded I am by his clueless egomania.
The “dreaming of revolution” post was bad enough, but this recent spate of “no need for change, we’re perfect as it is” blitherings is the icing on the cake.
There is a kind of noxious grandiosity peculiar to many “worthies” of the BBBs. They remind me of Warty Bliggens:
Oh and, ms_xeno — awesome work! When are you coming to Austin to show your work!?!?
lololol
warty bliggins! perfection, SV!
hoo boy, you made my day!
Terror! With extra cheese!
“Mr. Shnewer was quoted as saying that they could kill “at least 100 soldiers” using rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons, and that the witness was urged to help lead the attack because he had prior experience in the Egyptian military. They would use a map procured by Mr. Tatar, who used to deliver pizza there, the affidavit said.”

well bingo on who runs what. For one thing LOL while they should be held responsible, the idea that a candidate runs his/her campaign, esp a not very experienced pol with no personal machine….
They get shoved out there like a dress mannequin.
righto, Mcat!
dress mannequins would probably hold more appeal to me than any of the 18 wannabes in thsi contest — even Gravel, who I tend to think should have come out from under his rock a hell of a lot sooner!
As I keep saying:
Nominate a Blackberry!
Nominate a Roomba!
Michael Moore once ran a Ficas for office in NJ
Oh & Jam.fuse. Apparently I’m not witty – merely a half-wit.
This WHITE MALE Progressive meme has been playing out for months on MyDD. It is not a slip of the tongue but purposeful… what the hell they are getting at is not too clear but Jerome “Conman” Armstong just left a little clue:
Hiding Racism
by Jerome Armstrong, Tue May 08, 2007 at 08:48:56 AM EST
So now the “progressive librul ” or librully progressive Democrat …. Conman is now a LIBERTARIAN!!!
Yeah… why not just hand out pitchforks while you are at it…. no need for proactive policies…let the market regulate itself… cuz we all know that is “fair”….kinda like those folks Jerome conned out of their savings by lying to them about the market.
Warty Bliggens aka Warty Bloggers.
They get shoved out there like a dress mannequin.
Without a doubt and, according to that Boohoomenian twisted logic, Rove should be president, n’est-ce pas?
brinn, I should be hitting your town soon in my new role as Chief Aesthetics & Culture Consultant to the Obama campaign. Naturally, I will go anywhere, paste any collage, and hustle at any art show in order to get my guy elected.
Shoot your resume my way, as I am budgeted for several well-paid flunkies. Fab photo attachments featuring sexxxeee cocktail attire always welcome.
Oh, crap. Donohue’s throwing rocks at me and Obama’s hiding under his desk. Let me get back to you on that, Brinn.
Blackberry/Roomba ‘08!

He actually referred to it as “slow bleed” but allowing the Dems room to maneuver. Concluding it was “good thinking”.

nominate a vacuum bag…
Blackberry Roomba sounds like the name of a starlet – or perhaps even a baseball player. It’s hardly more improbable than Coco Crisp.
I don’t know about these Roomba things – I like the idea of having a robot do the vacuuming, it would be a little unnerving to have one of them perambulating around the house. We already have a toy robot that dances and spits plastic discs. Oh, and a motorized dinosaur that roars and lashes its tail angrily. Not to mention the flesh-and-blood animals around here.
