HAHAHAH…

Senator Arlen Specter and primary challenger Joe Sestak have both agreed to hold a joint candidate forum next month, I’ve learned, their first joint appearance since Sestak committed to the Senate race and a sign that this hotly anticipated Senate campaign is rapidly becoming a reality.

Making the joint appearance more interesting, it’s set to take place on August 14th at Netroots Nation, an unlikely forum for Specter given his decades as a Republican, meaning the event will pique intense blogospheric interest.

Maybe thre are some Dem mayors in Jersey they’d like ot invite too…

Gates interview:

My driver is a large black man. But from afar you and I would not have seen he was black. He has black hair and was dressed in a two-piece black suit, and I was dressed in a navy blue blazer with gray trousers and, you know, my shoes. And I love that the 911 report said that two big black men were trying to break in with backpacks on. Now that is the worst racial profiling I’ve ever heard of in my life. (Laughs.) I’m not exactly a big black man. I thought that was hilarious when I found that out, which was yesterday.

It looked like someone’s footprint was there. So it’s possible that the door had been jimmied, that someone had tried to get in while I was in China. But for whatever reason, the lock was damaged. My driver hit the door with his shoulder and the door popped open.

He accuses the woman who made the 9/11 call of racial profiling too. What a fucking peach.

yeah I read that. There si a comment around from someone claiming to be a friend or acquaintance of the woman… and says she called in two men, one unknown race (she could not see, literally, other than a clothed man, from the back), one possibly white. Also some arch person who thought that the cops should not only know Gates but know and research his address googled and came up wtih 22 Francis St for Gates… which is a home he USED to own and not the Ware St house. The clever commenter did not know this, but was sure he had solved what the police should have… LOL.

Life ain’t perfect, for anyone.

There are so many terrible cop stories out there, but no, we must attend to Gates, the friend of Pretzel.

Not much to add (via Mike Allen’s Playbook at Politico):

ON THEROOT.COM, GATES SAYS “YES” TO BEER WITH CROWLEY: “Statement from Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Editor-in-Chief of The Root: It was very kind of the President to phone me today. Vernon Jordan is absolutely correct: my unfortunate experience will only have a larger meaning if we can all use this to diminish racial profiling and to enhance fairness and equity in the criminal justice system for poor people and for people of color.

And to that end, I look forward to studying the history of racial profiling in a new documentary for PBS.

I see it was actually Gates who made this comment:

But the only black people who truly live in a post-racial world in America all live in a very nice house on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

BIDEN INTERVIEW — Wall Street Journal A1, “Biden Says Weakened Russia Will Bend to U.S.,” by Peter Spiegel: “Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview that Russia’s economy is ‘withering,’ and suggested the trend will force the country to make accommodations to the West on a wide range of national-security issues, including loosening its grip on former Soviet republics and shrinking its vast nuclear arsenal. …

[I]n the interview, at the end of a four-day trip to Ukraine and Georgia, Mr. Biden said domestic troubles are the most important factor driving Russia’s new global outlook. ‘I think we vastly underestimate the hand that we hold,’ he said. …On whether Moscow will assist the U.S. in clamping down on nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea: ‘I can see Putin sitting in Moscow saying, “Jesus Christ, Iran gets the nuclear weapon, who goes first?” Moscow, not Washington.’”

Stunningly, fuckingly, STUPID. To use a word in magnified parlance. I must say Biden has spoken STUPIDLY.
:lol: As I listen to an interview with Dr Howard Dean utterly misrepresent the so called Health Care Reform … which Ob began to call INSURANCE REFORM, as of last week.

Gotta love it.

Them’s fighting words:

In a move that risked alienating his most powerful ally in his bid to return to power, Zelaya also said U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is not adequately informed about Honduras’ “repressive regime”.

U.S. President Barack Obama has cut $16.5 million in military aid to Honduras and threatened to slash economic aid.

But he has yet to take measures directly against the coup leaders, and there are tensions between Washington and Zelaya, a close ally of Venezuela’s anti-American and socialist president, Hugo Chavez.

Zelaya has asked Obama to take tougher measures against the de facto government, and he said on Saturday that Clinton was not fully aware of its repressive policies.

“I think she has to be given the correct information so that she comes to see what is happening in Honduras and her words are to complain about the coup leaders, not the heroic people that are resisting and accompanying me so that things return to normal,” he said.

The crisis has put Obama in a difficult position. He does not want to continue a tradition of U.S. support for rightist coups in Latin America, but is uncomfortable with Zelaya’s own democratic credentials and some Republicans in Congress say he has already done too much for the ousted leftist.

Memo to Zelaya: he’s the Spelunker-in-Chief. He’s going to cave to the Republicans. You might want to start looking for a new job.
