We’re headed into a week of heat, they tell us… one night was so chilly I got up and found an extra blanket.. and the next day, Thursday, the heat surged.  A bit of breeze just now at 2 AM… and some cooling Saturday day (they say) but not to last.  The heat is upon us…

And I am pretty much down for the count.  I ordered ooodles of ice cream, in preparation.

My husband was driving my car yesterday. He was about to cross into South Carolina. (We live in North Carolina.) I have 2 Obama stickers on my car (and no I’m not removing them, even if was one was damaged when we went to see President Obama speak about the health care bill this past July).
A guy in a van passed him, and as he did, he shouted to my husband, “You Liar!” My husband just laughed at him.
I know this wasn’t aimed directly at my husband, but what the guy has no idea of knowing is that my husband has Multiple Sclerosis and his COBRA expired this past August 31. His Medicare will not start until May, 2010. I’m hoping that this isn’t what we’ll have to look forward to occasionally until the health care bill passes. It’s not only rude, but a bit scary.
Thanks for letting me share this.

Quite the match for the NeoCons and Banksters who rule the road.
Boo! Liar!
Ahhhhh!

God forbid they drive in Jersey.
And I hope they medicate on Halloween. Jeezis. Imagine what kind of damage a 5 year old in a Caspar costume could do…

One other observation about Rahm and Axelrod putting their Horse through the paces.. Ob blanketing the airwaves….

well… but who is listening? Last Prime time speech with q and a, Fox ran some cheekily named movie (how racist of them) and pulled bigger numbers.

I’d like to think there was a president… let’s be blunt, they are not in charge, never in charge. it’s a cohort… probably always has been. Competing interests, internal wars and battles, pots of gold, etc… the corps, the def industry, etc.

But I’d like to think in the nightmare pass we are at, the Pretzel had a real seat at the table.

I won’t kid myself, Ob does not have a seat at the table. he is the front man. Different personality type than GWBush… but, same deal.

Sorry to be rude. I realise he is God on Earth and our Magical Foundling. Whom we must pray for and throw ourselves in front of the bullets, to save him, so he can save us. or some such tawdry gibberdrool.

But! No seat at the table.

Let us pray!

SO relieved it was at random. What WOULD we have done?

Lordy.

The White House press office chose the order of the interviews at random — scrambling slips of paper on a desk and picking the names to draw up a list Thursday afternoon. Starting at 3:30 p.m. Friday, the hosts began rotating in and out of the room with Obama in this order: CBS, NBC, ABC, Univision, CNN.

OH PUHLEEZE… this is what we are down to. The talent is to manage the Ginsburg. We are even lower than I had thought.

5 15 minute interviews, with 5 mins in between for the questioner to take the vacated chair.

This is progress?

The Full Ginsburg is in the elite pantheon of named maneuvers in any field. It is to pundits what Pugachev’s Cobra is to jet fighter pilots, or Fermat’s Last Theorem is to mathematicians. And as with jet pilots and mathematicians, the pundits who have actually completed a Full Ginsberg represent an extremely small elite corps in a highly selective field.

Only eight people, including Ginsburg himself, have ever pulled it off. Dick Cheney did it in 2000, during the Republican National Convention. Edwards did it in 2004. Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff did it in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. And Clinton used her 2007 Full Ginsburg to trumpet a health care proposal.

LAT on ACORN.

[“W]hen you have this big of a mess, it takes time to clean up and your funders drop like flies,” said Madeline Talbott, a former head organizer for ACORN’s operations in Illinois.

ACORN’s Chicago office closed in January 2008, when Talbott — along with 365 community members, the local ACORN board and at least a dozen paid staff members — quit over concerns about mismanagement and a lack of financial transparency at the group’s national headquarters.

“I feel so torn about what’s happening now,” said Talbott, who today is an organizer with Action Now, an advocacy group for the poor in Chicago.

“I’m so relieved not to be part of the organization anymore, and so sad because they are trying to clean things up.” . . . . .

I am reminded of when the so called online Left bellowed that they (mostly Dkos and FDL) had brought down Domenech, from Red State, stopped from taking a spot at Wapo (who had ever heard of him, baby operative? Who cared?). My, but they preened. Meanwhile the Right had bagged Eason of CNN and Dan Rather.

Clap Clap clap. Ooops… don’t think Tinkerbell or Peter Pan or whoever we clapped for is getting up!

The head of ACORN in SF was on KGO yesterday and did really badly.

None of this is going to go well.

BTW, if anyone can stand it, FOX is filling the hole of not having Obster on Sunday by having the national head of ACORN on with Darrell Issa, R of California.

Good Luck!

NYDN

Paterson puts 30 day hold on state funding for ACORN. Sad because it is peanuts, 400,000.

My impression, since the votes to defund in the House and Senate were tacked onto other bills… how they weather this period, they *could* get the federal funding back. But Democrats have fallen like flies and R are pretty frisky.

The yoke of federal state funding is a mess imo. Hell they even did it to Coretta Scott King. The so called King Foundation was tethered to Federal money. They kept her on a leash. And i think she had the capacity to be a leader and not just an icon.

And the kids are a fucking mess.

Tried and true pattern. Over and over, it wins.

Dmitry Orlov in fine form…

Caution, White People

Although the topic of war did not seem foremost on their minds, some of the men, and even a few of the ruddy, rugged-looking women, were clad in warrior garb of one of two varieties: quite a few aging road warriors sported motorcycle gang leathers decorated with Harley-Davidson insignia, while others wore frumpy US Military camouflage pyjamas. One very large would-be warrior paraded with a sign that read “I will defend the Constitution by any means necessary.” He could certainly snuff one or two enemies of the republic by belly-flopping onto them with his gigantic gut! But this wasn’t a rabidly militant crowd, unlike some of the pro-war demonstrations I’ve witnessed. For this bunch, militarism is clearly just part of the clutter in their mental attic.

Complete with impious commentary on Israel, Obama’s ethnicity (yes, he goes there), and the general pointlessness of U.S. politics.

marisacat - 19 September 2009

well as Chris Hedges pointed out, they are out on the streets (such as it is) and the so called left is in various levels of contained and “civil” frustration, cleaving (such as it is) to The One in the WH.

it ain’t working, but Ob shall limp on.

6. marisacat - 19 September 2009

hahahah. Edwards. Thinking about claiming that kid, but it is just so tough, you know.

[M]r. Young, who has since renounced that statement, has told publishers in a book proposal that Mr. Edwards knew all along that he was the child’s father. He said Mr. Edwards pleaded with him to accept responsibility falsely, saying that would reduce the story to one of a political aide’s infidelity.

In the proposal, which The New York Times examined, Mr. Young asserts that he assisted the affair by setting up private meetings between Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter. He wrote that Mr. Edwards once calmed an anxious Ms. Hunter by promising her that after his wife died, he would marry her in a rooftop ceremony in New York with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band.

Once the favorite son of much of North Carolina with many supporters beyond, John Edwards is now largely disdained. To many, it was not only his liaison with Ms. Hunter, but also what seemed his elaborate effort to cover up his behavior to preserve his political ambitions. . . . . . .

I could hear these people from in front of my apartment building:

Conservative pundit and best-selling author Michelle Malkin told several thousand anti-tax protesters gathered in Milwaukee on Saturday that their movement is about pushing back “against the culture of corruption in Washington.”

“I’ve never been so proud in my lifetime to be part of this angry mob,” Malkin said in a fiery keynote address at a Taxpayer Tea Party event at Veterans Park along the city’s lakefront.

Malkin criticized political leaders and other figures, including President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, Attorney General Eric Holder, government ‘czars,’ “Republican sellouts” and union “thugs.”

“The tea party movement is about calling the White House out . . . about calling out President Obama for misinformation,” Malkin said.

Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group, spearheads the tea party movement. The Wisconsin chapter has held rallies in Madison, Sheboygan and Fond du Lac, using social networking and talk radio to reach its audience.

Mark Block, Americans for Prosperity’s state organizer, said his group has 40,000 registered members in Wisconsin.

“What I saw in April was fear,” Block said of those who have attended the rallies. “Over the summer, it turned into anger. Now when you talk to people, they feel threatened by all government programs.”

They were very, very loud.

What a hoot!! via Politico “44”

PUSHING PATERSON: The White House is leaning on New York Gov. David Paterson to drop his reelection campaign, the New York Times reports.

From the NYT:

“The decision to ask Mr. Paterson to step aside was proposed by political advisers to Mr. Obama, but approved by the president himself, one of the administration officials said. … ‘Is there concern about the situation in New York? Absolutely,’ the second administration official said Saturday evening. ‘Has that concern been conveyed to the governor? Yes.’ . . . . .

They are concern trolls! How perfect…

“The president’s request was conveyed to the Mr. Paterson by Representative Gregory W. Meeks, a Queens Democrat, who has developed a strong relationship with the Obama administration, they said.

“The move against a sitting Democratic governor represents an extraordinary intervention into a state political race by the president, and is a delicate one, given that Mr. Paterson is one of only two African-American governors in the nation.”

BUT! We are post racial. Or is that over now? So hard to keep up!!

marisacat - 19 September 2009

NYDN… Thou Shalt Not Run.

[T]he Obama administration sent the message through White House political affairs director Patrick Gaspard, who met with the governor at his campaign headquarters for nearly two hours last Monday, according to a source with knowledge of the conversation.

“They expressed concern about his chances about being reelected and the likelihood his presence in the race made it more likely that Rudy Giuliani would enter the contest,” the source said. “The preference is that he not run. That message was conveyed directly.”

The bombshell meeting between Paterson and Gaspard occurred the same day President Obama was in New York City to deliver a Wall Street address – a speech Paterson was not invited to, according to several sources.

The White House’s preference he not run was reiterated to Paterson during a Friday evening dinner with Rep. Greg Meeks, a Queens Democrat.

Paterson, according to the first source, raised his Monday conversation with Gaspard during the dinner, which also included a couple of state senators.

Meeks, the source said, told Paterson that he had spoken in Washington, D.C., with Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, who he said doesn’t think a Paterson run is “tenable.”

The message to Paterson not only represents the White House trying to heavily influence a top state race, but also is a case of the first black president pressuring New York’s first black governor to step aside. . . . .

Village Voice has some extra tids.

Sure is a yappy bunch.

NYCO - 20 September 2009

Paterson has been toast for a while, but I sure hope he doesn’t go quietly. The problem, of course, is NY’s very late primary. If it weren’t for that, the primary process would cleanly take care of things.

That said, Obama’s interference in NY state politics is deeply objectionable on an emotional level for me. And if I (a nominal Democrat) feel that way, just watch all those heretofore sleeping upstate Republicans get pissed. Obama is coming to Malta (near Albany) for a ceremonial visit. Should be interesting to see what happens. Well, as interesting as watching dogs fight over garbage scraps would be, I guess.

marisacat - 20 September 2009

yeah Paterson’s numbers have been sliding downward for some time. For whatever set of reasons.

Well they interfered in MA as well… and I see it returned to the Leg who decided Patrick can do it the old way and pick an interim senator.

So it goes.

Well, as interesting as watching dogs fight over garbage scraps would be, I guess.

Yup.

NYCO - 20 September 2009

Well, as an upstater I am inclined to thumb my nose at Obama’s rumored displeasure with Paterson’s choice of Kirsten Gillibrand over Caroline Kennedy. I can’t help hoping Paterson goes out guns blazing. Wish he’d uncork that tongue of his on his way out. Deval Patrick he ain’t.

NY’s Dems brought this on themselves. It all goes back to why Spitzer was even elected in the first place. The old edifices have been crumbling for some time, and they had to give way to a popular choice who in many ways, really wasn’t one of them. The situation has been out of control for years, but it’s been quiet and not noticeable until the last couple years, now the pieces are all starting to fall apart – add the slow death of NYC’s financial industry into the mix and you have a falling tower (if you pardon the metaphor).

Mirror to California on the other side of the country.

It would be hard to find a less fit person for the senate (not that it matters) than Camelotta displayed herself to be.Zero real involvement with politics her entire adult life, no donations other than a single one, no real itnerests other than some vague job to do with the schools that it came out she never showed up for… her office was dusty. She had barely voted as I recall and for a supposed dedicated Democrat had hardly bothered with voting in primaries. Similar points always told me Edwards was a lousy dud as well (as he rises in the news, such as it is again)

the CK-S enterprise was a lame joke. That thankfully died.

Federal Appeals Court Voids Campaign Finance Reform Rules

By Del Quentin Wilber and Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, September 19, 2009

A federal appeals court overturned hard-fought campaign finance reform regulations in a ruling on Friday that will make it easier for independent political groups to raise and spend money to influence elections.

The three-judge panel struck down regulations intended to blunt the power of such organizations, including the controversial Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and MoveOn.org, which drew heavy criticism for spending tens of millions of dollars on aggressive advertisements during the 2004 presidential campaign.

[…]

Experts suggested that the court’s decision could provide a boon to groups tapping into the fervor of anti-Obama activity and “tea party” events. It will certainly allow groups across the political spectrum to raise and spend money without pause, potentially leading to a more acerbic campaign environment. . . . . .

AND there is the SC ruling to come as well, rising from the Hillary movie.

We are so blessed.
