London, UK: Deer graze on a frosty morning in Richmond park [Photograph: Toby Melville/Reuters]

***********

Well, the Greater Bay Area (it extends north of the Bay, into Napa Sonoma) managed to declare a “Spare the Air Day” for Christmas Day… SF Gate…. thus banning any fireplace or wood stove burning – of any solid fuel, wood, duraflame logs or other.  Now I am not at all fond of wood burning stoves.  The weather has to be still as can be and very very cold or I am in trouble right away.  HOWEVER, this is some people’s only form of heat.

Fortunately we are having a very mild Christmas week…

I do love the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate reflected in the first three comments at SF Gate:

An inspector cannot enter your home without a warrant. If you are cited, you can later fight the citation. Claim that you were burning candles in your fireplace, make them prove otherwise.

F this, I will burn SOMETHING. And F the gov’t’s phony interest in our health. The gov’t is interested in making corporate honchos fat and happy, PERIOD. In fact, we are governed BY corporate hogs, and I am no longer an iota interested in succumbing to their dictates. Burn burn, burn at my house and the gazillions of whiny asthmatics can stay away and go inhale diesel fumes instead.

Important message from PG&E: Burn our ga$ for Christmas, not that free firewood. It’s the American way.

Gave me a chuckle anyway……..

AND I see the woman who tackled Benny is the same one who tried last Christmas midnight mass.  She had faith that if she kept trying God would help her.  So obvious.

Merry Xmas to those who are celebrating.

Weird time of year for those of us who are Jeebusless. I’m just not quite sure what to say anymore when you tell people that you’re not Christian yet they give you presents anyway. Not that I don’t like presents and I do get them/make them for the grandherbs because they celebrate Xmas but…I don’t know…maybe next year a trip to a warmer climate will fix that. (Now if only someone would give me that as a present).

marisacat - 25 December 2009

If you want a laugh and can stand the news today, catch the Obamas (Mum and Dad, both), vid wishing us hapless citizens a merry whatever. Jesus. They don’t even TRY. Obviously they dined on lemons immediately prior.

It was pretty funny as I was blindly contemplating making some tea at 5 am.

catnip - 25 December 2009

I’ll put that on my required viewing list. :)

In news from BizarroLand: I posted a reply to a comment by MB last nite disagreeing with what he’d written and the comment has literally disappeared from the site. Not in hidden comments – just gone. And someone whom I regularly disagree with, when I asked MB this am what happened to it, chimed in to say he saw my comment after it had been posted too, so I obviously wasn’t hallucinating. Can’t wait to see what the official explanation is for this.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

I would guess you have been censored. Orangified. Orange-fried. Unless they have technical problems.

catnip - 25 December 2009

But it’s the only comment of mine that’s vanished. Funny “technical problem” that one is, eh? ;)

marisacat - 25 December 2009

well I was sort of being sarcastic. what a place.

catnip - 25 December 2009

No kidding. They were piling on a guy yesterday because they disagreed with his opinions so, of course, they accused him of being a troll because he has a new UID. Turns out that even after he told them he was serving in Iraq and had been a kossack before under a different name, they still didn’t believe him.

The place is a nuthouse.

Heather-Rose Ryan - 25 December 2009

I’m pagan and I celebrate Christmas with great enjoyment. It’s originally pagan, after all.

Surprising how many Christians don’t know that. I like to educate them about it.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

speaking of pagan, the school I went to for grammar school, the Convent here… had some devilishly wonderful connection to the northern timber forests… every christmas season they lined the foyers (which were large with towring ceilings) of each building (all had been family mansions here on Broadway) with hundreds of undecorated trees. Just lain against the walls…

The scent was unbelievably wonderful.

catnip - 25 December 2009

Yeah, but everybody knows that pagans are Naderites.
;)

Yeh. last year,
Same Womano a Germano.
Same bright red coat, even.

Now amidst the thrust and parry in the largely Cathlo Bishopric / Jewish Wall Street Pricks war over the U.S. Healthcare dollar – is what it is , – haggling over money and market share…Women? Their health, oppression, or poverty? The Children? Same as it ever was for these guys.

Anyways, The “elevation” of Pius..the Jewish community blowback…I think part of a larger piece, too.

A Merry Slam to them BOTH , is my take. As last year’s invasion of Gaza was met with…..inaudible words…and this year’s particular resource recovering plunder is readily accomplished via little more than Pro Wrestling matches of one sort or other….

Nice timing in any event. Prolly mutually beneficial too, (the revenue sharing agreements of so many Catholic Health system assets already merged into the hospital conglams here – and abroad – while market share negotiations for others proceed…)

So I see the hurdling Pope hurling Miss Wrastlin Red Coat as mutually beneficial for testy partners, Given that, two days ago, the Knesset opened up an investigation into organ theft, getting out in front of the announcement earlier yesterday
that he PA plans to bring the case to the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
WITH support from Sweden as calls mount for investigations in the Ukraine over allegations that some 25,000 children were sold from Ukrainian orphanages, and brought to Israel for the purpose of kidney harvesting Haaretz reported on the allegations out of the Ukraine as a “blood libel”. Oh Well. The Swedes are still a little ticked over the same “blood libel” claims last summer that proved true when some Israeli officials were persuaded as a matter of conscience others under threat of litigation to come clean about it.

If those numbers prove anywhere near true, as well as allegations over similar arrangements at orphanages in South America and Africa… 10′s of thousands of organs were sold in U.S health systems in the U.S. or satellite hospitals and co-ventures worldwide.

UPMC for instance, in the Last 2 Decades, of repetitive Catholic Hospital M&A game, had no small influence in doing so from former Pittsburgh Bishop Donald Weurhl . Weuhrl, was an American Ganswei type during Vatican 2, and has long been maneuvering, as have his patrons, for him to become the first “American” Pope. Now he’s 70 and got a plum spot in the US as Cardinal of ….uhm…..DC

As for the Vatican, especially wrt Global Capitalism and Healthcare – short of their art collection or ill timed condo conversion of the Papal Palace – — Capitalist Patronage via US Healthcare IS their financial salvation, pedophiles they are – as they face decline in the collection plates, estates willed to the Church, etc…And Lordy knows their bankers were no smarter than anybody else or disinclined from living the high life.

So The Peter Puffers are totally up the ass of, their more monied Death Merchants and “Health” Broker PARTNERS as they haggle over carcass spoils. They are ONE in unholy communion as it were…I’m for anybody who’s against them.

Again IMO of what I think is a most useful example , UPMC..of Polio vaccine fame, of once gloried Starzl Institute (transplants) and FK506 (anti-rejection drug) fame…

UPMC…as is the trendwith major University Health Systems – tho none other in lucre, reach , or position may actually propel one of their partners into the Papacy-

UPMC, via itsGlobal medical presence now worldwide,

- in Il Papa’s Berluscononi ITALY I might add,
UPMC joins Italian government to create $398 million biomedical research center in Sicily

Smaller strategic stakes in Sicily, tho, considering their deal in Israel to specify, build, and OWN the standard for patient info Databases to be deployed here there and everywhere for those foolish enough to go along.

Ah well. So we have this scene in the Vatican last night pop up…Again. …who knows where she came from or where she will return as the Vatican has claimed jurisdiction and is incarcerating her in a psychiatric facility…

I wouldn’t be surprised, That once Ratzie goes, perhaps sooner rather than later on that score, you see an American Pope, prolly the M&A guy from Pgh who is now Cardinal in DC, whose name, incidentally, rhymes with Whirl.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

I noticed the very red jacket… so last year she was German?

I also heard one report that says the cardinal broke a leg. (hahaha)

BooHooHooMan - 25 December 2009

Ratzie the German.
I was playin with “mano a mano”…
thus, Womano a Germano. ..was gonna go for GermanoPopemano,
but you know me, not given to extrapolation or nuttin’……LOL.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

I caught a French news report… apparently sh is only 25.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

Werle or Whuerle? that one?

I think we (the viewing public!) get an African pope. What a mixed bag of tricks that would be… OR, in a compromise move, we get George of Chicago. American black.

the whole thing makes me teeter between nausea and hilarity.

catnip - 25 December 2009

Yup. Time for the Vatican to go “post-racial” too since that’s worked so well for the American empire.

BooHooHooMan - 25 December 2009

The thing with Wuerl has been in the making for years.

Very low profile nationally, a puller of strings, literally a next door neighbor of the Hillmans for about 20 , in an old Baron’s manse bequeathed to the Diocese. Then off to DC. Same M.O. avoid press on all machinations. Ever hear of the guy let alone criticism of the U.S Wars? Fact of the matter is the guy has been swimming with sharks for years. Maybe that’s because he’s a shark. LOL. And quite accustomed to the water.

Anyways, Out there IOZ way, LOL, my less than faithful catholic relations tell me the new Bishop who succeeded Wuerl … with all sorts of economic + PR prollems after THE GREAT DESERVED SHAME and amidst school and parish closings left the Bishop’s mansion and opted for more cloistered residence with young men out at the seminary in the ‘burbs.

But with this dude Wuerl, the following kind of inside screwball is almost invisible to Catholics or ex-Catholics outside the Northeast, let alone normal. fuckin. people. anywhere else. LOL

As a young priest, he served as chief aide to Cardinal Wright a guy very close to the Kennedy’s (Wright a BOSTON native , was first made aux Bishop of BOSTON 1947, Bishop of Pittsburgh in 1959 when the dioces had boxcars of money flowing into it’s coffers. Wuerl hooks up with Wright right after seminary from Catholic U in DC, becomes his Ganswein, wows the other boys as Wrights aide during Vatican 2 ..

But here’s the kicker: Wright in 1969 was elevated to Cardinal and the Boston lad in Rome became was what’s called the Prefect for the Congregation for the Clergy, the best way to explain it is Rome’s Personnel Director for the priesthood world wide
All those files. All those careers. All those secrets.
With Wuerl as his Ganswein.
J. Edgar Hoover was a lightweight compared to this op.

Which is why, with Wuerl effectively the keeper of secrets, and present day insurance settler, and the M&A guy on Catholic “health” assets in the U>S. just as the US/Israeli/Wall Street is globalizing HC on a scale never seen before, it’s why I see this guy as the front runner for Benny’s beanie.

BooHooHooMan - 25 December 2009

Well strike me down!

Just two links for ref:

Cardinal Wright

and the Congregation for the Clergy

marisacat - 25 December 2009

well ugh. Tho there are no “good” choices. They def seem to be shoving Ratz toward a grave or retirement… much commentary that the two hours earlier for Mid Mass was to allow him to rest up for christmas day responsibilities. Perhaps a Warren Burger moment approaches.

Breaking: Santa shot down by a US military drone while flying over Waziristan.

Pakistan…guy with long beard…you do the math.

Madman in the Marketplace - 25 December 2009

was he flying over a wedding party?

5. marisacat - 25 December 2009

Well OK… but was anyone wearing a bright red jacket? Was the pope there?

Breaking News from ABCNEWS.com:

FBI Questioning Suspect Believed to Have Tried to Ignite Powdery Substance on Detroit-Bound Airliner, Law Enforcement Officials Say [3:20 p.m. ET]

For more on this and other breaking news go to ABCNews.com: http://abcnews.go.com?nwltr=bn

Bizarrely active day.

catnip - 25 December 2009

They said it was “firecrackers” on CNN. But “powdery substance” sounds more terroristy, I guess.

6. marisacat - 25 December 2009

Well.. they are calling it terrorism. Or attempted terror… but doing so anonymously.

Will someone strong and public please stand up?

“We believe this was an attempted act of terrorism,” a White House official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. President Barack Obama is on vacation in Hawaii and was monitoring the situation.

CNN said some sort of “small explosive device” had detonated inside the passenger cabin, and a fire warning light had gone on. Two passengers had received minor injuries, Delta said.

The aircraft had been moved to a remote area at Detroit’s airport where the plane and all baggage were being rescreened, the TSA said.
….

AND I happened to catch a snippet of news from the tarmac in Detroit. A bomb viewing sniffing apparatus was being sent inside the plane to I guess confront the monster… but was stymied. It could not navigate the steps up to the plane door.

We are mighty.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

well now they say it was attached to his leg. And I gather it literally blew up on him. Sounds like Amsterdam security is being run by the Vatican Swiss Guard… HAHAAHA…

I guess this will get more garbled. How soon til we invade Nigeria? Or do we invade Amsterdam…

Dodd chastises Senate’s ‘newest members’ for their behavior

In a floor speech Wednesday night, Dodd said there is “nothing wrong” with partisanship, but added he has “been deeply disturbed by some of the [healthcare] debate I have heard, usually from newer members, usually those who have been here one, two, three years, who do not have an appreciation of what this chamber means and how we work together.”
[snip]

During his speech on Wednesday, Dodd repeatedly revisited his disappointment with the newest members of the Senate: “It is always the newest members who fail to understand how the Senate has worked for more than two centuries. We need to get back to that sense of civility once again … Even though we have had very strong disagreements, I never once in my life in this chamber ever questioned the patriotic intentions of any member … the idea you challenge another’s patriotism, honesty, their integrity, does a great disservice to this institution, in my view.”

He later added, “Again, I regret sometimes the newer members who fail to understand the importance of maintaining that which our Founders envisioned when they created this institution.”

Such delicate little hothouse flowers.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

I read at Instahoohoo that Dodd was boo’d in the airport in Conn.

Madman in the Marketplace - 25 December 2009

I expect a great deal of sniveling when he loses.

marisacat - 25 December 2009

Like so many of them he is utterly calcified

catnip - 25 December 2009

Who is he bitching about?

Madman in the Marketplace - 26 December 2009

probably Al Franken.

8. catnip - 25 December 2009

So, before I left for a brief foray into the Real World today, as I noted upstream, CNN had called this a “firecracker” incident – reported in between their Jeebus and Mary specials. No big deal. I come home tonite and suddenly this has morphed into some alleged terrorist attack? Slow news day? Not enough to keep the CNN crew busy now that xmas is over on the east coast? Has the terror alert level risen to Bert or Ernie yet? Are we all DOOMED? Have they quarantined Detroit?

marisacat - 25 December 2009

According to KGO, the host now on is a violently pro Israel, pro war, pro losing our rights so terra is STOPPED in it’s tracks… this is a very big deal. Very very big deal. And lamentation is on offer that apparently we missed Alaki in the Yemen attacks… or which ever is the US born so called radical muslim cleric who was in touch with Hassan.

And so on.

One thing i noted as the day moved on, the Politico article that went up, the only electeds directly quoted were R, Collins and Peter King.

So classic. Obama better check that ladder he’s been climbing. I think a fire is starting to crawl up the rungs…

9. catnip - 25 December 2009

I have a very strong suspicion that the Firecracker Terrorist is responsible for disappearing that dkos comment of mine that has gone MIA.
