Terrifying. For money™ for school™, so American™, I traveled for a year for a civil engineering firm, working with a crew on large truck mounted drill rigs doing test borings and taking soil samples at various depths for foundation, roadway, and tarmac load bearing analysis. Near most all coastal airports, here in the east anyways, there are peat bogs and wet lands thus methane which does blow and can easily ignite from static electricity. I had a friend who suffered life altering, horribly mutilating burns over his entire body, destroying his face in a manhole at the Pgh Airport in which several workers were killed. And that was over a small pocket that completely vented within a minute. Members of the crew went in immediately to get whoever they could out.
Now I don’t know the physics of it all, to what degree given globular hydrocarbon masses at sea can retain how much gas and travel for what distance, but I likened the whole insane prospect as if somebody decided to strip mine Mt St Helen’s. There obviously is a crown of highly pressurized death beneath that sea floor.
Not been a good few weeks or anythign related to “drilling”… several accidents, big burns, kill sites, small numbers quickly over run by new news, for gas drilling. One in WV dropped from the news as soon as the big blow occrred in Texas. Now the Australian top execs for Sundance down, in a big airplane accdient in Africa.
And of course the mine with the 29 deaths in WV…
