Changing times:   The Oval Office has a new look with a modern coffee table, more comfortable sofas, a streamlined Presidential seal and updated, arty pictures as opposed to dull landscapes. oh who said this:

‘My faith teaches me every day about humility. I have been humbled by my imperfections. But my faith also teaches me about forgiveness.

Sounds like Ob doesn’t it?   Or Beck.  Or any number of people bereft of useful brain matter and drooling Jesus onto our lunch plates.

No, it is the mosqueteer developer of the Mosqueria… by way of explaining his somewhat checkered past.   Not a big deal in the RE labyrinth from hell that is NYC… but apparently details previously unknown to Daisy and her Imam.

Ob may speak, but I doubt that Cultural Center ever gets built.  NTIM.

So, speech!  Speak to us O Commander in Chief!!   (Might as well humor the guy.)

Any silly idea left about the cops not being out of control?  Any lingering idea of “serve and protect”?

People in their own home in Marin County, no crime committed, his wife right there begging for them not to tase him, that he had a heart condition and he is tased THREE times.  Twice after he is down on the ground….

 What a fucking horror story.

U.S. toll rising in Afghanistan: 22 soldiers killed since Friday

Comments (0) | By Saeed Shah | McClatchy Newspapers

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — U.S. forces lost 22 soldiers in Afghanistan, mostly to roadside bombs, since Friday, marking a bloody step-up in the insurgency as a major U.S.-led offensive seeks to capture the spiritual homeland of the Taliban movement in Kandahar.

The U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan said it’s gaining ground against the insurgents, but violence is rising across the country, including in areas that were considered relatively safe.

Five more U.S. soldiers were killed Tuesday, while three Afghan workers for the British charity Oxfam were killed by a roadside bomb in Badakhshan, which had been one of the safer places in the country. …

Those sofas? They were in my Living Room!
And That Pier One wooden fruit bowl?
That was on the PORCH! Thieving bastards.

Anyways, you just know they have a button they can press and mimmimmimimmimmimmim (mechanical sound) – the room is unmistakeably furnished in the Iraq National Museum Style

marisacat - 31 August 2010

It’s sort of of corporate man cave.

At first I read the sofas were covered in a ”brown cotton” with blue and some additional colored thread, THEN i read it is cotton CORDOROY.

catnip - 31 August 2010

Madman in the Marketplace - 31 August 2010

how did our aristocracy get to be so middlebrow?

marisacat - 31 August 2010

I think it is the salesman undercurrent thru US society. A society that just constantly hawks merch. At every level.

Tho I have read that Miller’s play makes an impression, and very often a deep one, in every country on earth…

More would-be interns paying thousands to land a coveted spot

Each year, thousands of college students descend on Washington for unpaid internships. It can be a nerve-racking process: sending out résumés, trying to make contacts, interviewing again and again.

Increasingly, many of them are finding an alternative: paying thousands of dollars to a placement company for a guaranteed spot.

It’s a business just starting to appear in other cities. In Washington, it’s been thriving for years.

Estimates of the annual number of interns locally range from 20,000 to 40,000. The placement programs provide about 2,500 of these interns, with the number growing each year.

For their money — often funded with taxpayer-subsidized loans — students get an internship, housing, night classes, tours of Washington and college credit. But most say they sign up for the work experience.

“I wanted experience. I was worried about graduating and not getting a job,” said Brian Schiller, 21, a soon-to-be college senior from Sherborn, Mass., who interned at an executive search firm this summer through the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars. “I needed an internship, and they found me one.”

The Washington Center is the city’s largest program, and for the past three years it has placed about 1,500 interns annually, up from about 1,300 in 2007. It charges nearly $9,000 for a summer, including housing.

Didn’t lower landholders pay to have other Lords or Ladies at Court to take in their children to be nearer the King, back in the day?

marisacat - 31 August 2010

It charges nearly $9,000 for a summer, including housing.

what a scream!

I really think the whole thing has been cratering for a couple of decades, albeit slowly. Til Economic Crash hit….

I remember reading an article somewhere in the 90s, forget which year, in Harper’s, mulling over how long it would be til some enterprising – and very angry – parent, or pair of parents, sued some one of the colleges and universities … the ones that run 30 – 60 K a year, promise that the current version of a younger Einstein is on offer to the classroom and then subsequently all the kid sees is TAs (which is fine, but for the cost and the promises)… and sue very specifically for fraud.

Harper’s assumed parents were smarter than they were… are.

Madman in the Marketplace - 31 August 2010

maybe we have such a lousy ruling class because the peasants are so damned stupid and gullible.

marisacat - 31 August 2010

the whole thing is shitty… or sh*tty. Or shi**y

Like redecorating the oval to look like a sample show room.

Madman in the Marketplace - 31 August 2010

they redecorated several countries into charnel houses, so why not?

marisacat - 31 August 2010

oh good one…

Yes as we “depart” many towns and cities in Iraq have little to no potable water at the tap… and so little electricity.

Talk about “seeng the light of peace”.

What a fukcer.

You Swallow These Invisible Shrimp With Every Gulp of NYC Tap Water

New York’s water is delicious—and filled with tiny crustaceans called “copepods”. (Making it possibly not kosher.) H&E stain the water and put it under a microscope and you’ll find these little guys. Crunchy closeup after the jump.

Madman in the Marketplace - 31 August 2010

From the kosher link above:

The following statement is not meant as a Psak for individuals or communities. Rather it is a statement of OU policy for the restaurants and caterers under its supervision during this interim period while research is still ongoing.

While we share this with the public, we recommend that you speak to your Orthodox Rabbi for his guidance in this, as in all Halachic matters.

Tiny crustaceans called copepods have been found in New York City tap water. The species we are finding primarily is Diacyclops thomasi, along with some Mesocyclops edax and Skistodiaptomus pygmaeus. These tiny crustaceans are ubiquitous in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. New York City, because of the high quality of its water, is not required by the EPA to mechanically filter its water. Their appearance in tap water as small white specks may represent a significant kashrus issue.

It is important to note that in some cases, water containing aquatic micro-fauna is permitted for consumption by Halacha.

Religion really does make people stupid.

marisacat - 31 August 2010

NYC has ”high quality” tap water? Really?

The best tap water I ever tasted was (before Katrina of course) New Orleans…. ad the joke was it’s the “piss from 6 states”

OUR water here used to be all but undrinkable, from the big Hetch Hetchy reservoir… cloudy and awful… til sometime in the 90s when it massively improved. As in, became drinkable.

Wonder how much the rabbis will charge to ponder this.

Madman in the Marketplace - 1 September 2010

maybe they’ll consult the old Catholic arguments about angels dancing on the heads of pins to help.

7. catnip - 31 August 2010

Jeebus H Christ, Ari Fleischer is on CNN saying Bush didn’t lie the world into war.

marisacat - 1 September 2010

LOL still getting a check!

8. marisacat - 1 September 2010

mamamma mia. Apparently some people (Reihan Salam at Daily Beast)are comparing Glenn Beck to a white Malcolm.

This is one fucked up country.

Madman in the Marketplace - 1 September 2010

I imagine they think they need to counter the much more accurate comparison to Father Coughlin.

Someone does not like the programming!

Reports of a Gunman on the Loose, Possible Hostage Situation, at Discovery Communications’ Offices in Maryland [1:42 p.m. ET]

Here’s the suspect’s site.

catnip - 1 September 2010

yikes:

2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.

5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THEM TO STOP THEIR HUMAN GROWTH AND THE EXPORTATION OF THAT DISGUSTING FILTH! (The first world is feeding the population growth of the Third World and those human families are going to where the food is! They must stop procreating new humans looking for nonexistant jobs!)

He was arrested in 2008 for protesting Discovery Channel.

marisacat - 1 September 2010

I was jsut reading his list of demands… Man! REALLY did not like the programming!

BooHooHooMan - 1 September 2010

LOL. That is so wrong.

MSNBC talking head mentions there are other Discovery Channel employees “hunkered down” on other floors of the building.

Hello?? You know the guy most likely has a teevee on there right? Why not just tell him exactly where those other potential hostages are hiding to save him some time rounding them up?

The stupidity that passes for “journalism”…

Madman in the Marketplace - 1 September 2010

they WARNED us that domestic terrorism would come spilling over our borders!

Feinberg Let BP Go Back On Its Word to Compensate “All Legitimate Claims”

Ah yes, word-keeping.
From John.
Conyers.
That’s John.
Gonna Investigate Cheney and Rove…
Conyers.

marisacat - 1 September 2010

well I read some speculation, which may have been well informed speculation, it is doubtful that Obby got anything on paper from BP about the 20 billion. Which is a joke of a structured pay out anyway. I cannot imagine that they will not just fade away a year or year and half… if they even pay up this year….

Pity there is little to no reporting that points out what a favored child of our DoD is BP.

And so on.

SO FUCKING TIRED OF CONYERS, who is minus whatever brains he ever had… and it was clear years ago.

Doddery old fool.

catnip - 1 September 2010

Teen who zapped nipples during shop class sues

By Associated Press

POSTED: 11:36 a.m. EDT, Aug 31, 2010

DOVER, N.H.: A New Hampshire high school student shocked so severely in shop class that his heart stopped beating is suing his teacher, the school district and the city of Dover.

Kyle Dubois and his parents claim teacher Thomas Kelley did not warn Dubois and other students of the dangers of the electrical demonstration cords in their electrical trades class.

On March 11, Dubois attached an electrical clamp to one nipple while another student attached another clamp to the other. A third student plugged in the cord.

Dubois was critically injured.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois’ suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage.

Kelley resigned from his teaching position about a month after the incident. He declined to comment on the lawsuit.

So what the fuck does this have to do with politics? Well… {stalling}
One could argue it’s illustrative of our prospects given the finest™ educational and judicial system in the world. EVAH™.

Yeh, Anyways. I came across it poking around for what’s up in the OH Senate race after seeing Josh Marshall was really…..
really
REALLY humping a story about a “Tea Party” candidate for OH Sen who was just indicted for sex with a minor at his Church, “authorities were alerted by the Pastor”… etc…

Don’t know, could care less, I was raised Catholic for ass-chapped sake, , OTHER than the angle that it comes off as GOP intramural enforcement .( Bush’s guy Portman slipping in the polls a bit, still up 5) …It just had me thinking what is Marshall doing with all that? It’s like they’ve gone from their journeymen astroturfing to actually being obsessed with these Tea Party and Beck stories.

Anyways The Tea Party whatsisname, an also-ran obviously, a splinter of the GOP vote if anything…says he’s got travel reciepts etc that he wasn’t even around on dates alleged…
Still it seems there’s no upside for the Donks in it as far as I can figure..Certainly not in Ohio. And do they seriously think, ala Marc Foley or Larry Craig that it is anything more than a peripheral piece of distraction? What I do think is they ARE – especially the retainer class- like their hostility to the “DFH” ,they ARE concerned about these TP’rs as it fucks up the otherwise wholesale seat trading games.

Fortunately, I found the “Roast Nipples in Shop Class” story. Which certainly makes me feel better as a would-be artisan wood-wright headin’ out to sea on my plank.

marisacat - 1 September 2010

I cannot believe anyone would shock themselves…. it jsut seems terminally dumb.

BooHooHooMan - 2 September 2010

and positively negative if you ask me, yeeeouch!
