This is the compound where Bin Laden is believed to have lived in the last few years. [DPA]

.. the compound.  The million dollar… high, high walled compound.

From a gallery at der spiegel.  Another glamour shot. And another.

Frankly it looks more like the Garrido ”garden estate”, the sad trash heap where Tracy DuGard was held for 18 years in an unincorporated part of … oh, the far reaches of the East Bay.

Brokaw on now.

Saying he

..got a call from the White House. They said you better get to the studio and light em up.
I said I needed something more. They said it’s about someone we’ve wanted for a very long time. It was then I knew.

Oh FFS. The Sturm und Drang. This was leaked to the retainer class over the weekend and portfolio adjustments were made accordingly.

Let’s see how long news of our ole CIA retainer’s death keeps the Blackhawk Era aloft.

BooHooHooMan - 2 May 2011

LOL The DOW and NASDAQ are…DOWN.
Couple points but not a blip.

Seems like some pretty rich folk overseas ain’t buyin it.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

There is no order limit.

I think it is all too reminiscent of Bush 1 in the aftermath of Iraq Kuwaiti border war. Wide support that was a quarter of an inch deep.

Oh I could be wrong.

Etc.

Well we need to send Bill Clinton to Tehran.
The Iranians dared breathe it today-
that Obama gettin Osama was just another INSIDE JOB. Again sayin OBL and USG been buds all along. A mirage facilitated by US tools in the King’s Saudi Mooby’s ole Egypt AND Mushi’s pliant Pakistan.

But you know, back here in the US of A we got our story and we’re stickin to it.

Most Powerful Nation on Earth.
Got Osama on May First just like Hitler.
Course it took upwards of 3 times longer than World War 2 but, you know, Most Powerful Nation on Earth. Clerical error probably.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

We ain’t blinkin’.

BooHooHooMan - 2 May 2011

BUT we LOOK GREAT right after the plastic surgery!

4. marisacat - 2 May 2011

Oh we live in the Days of Unravellment.

This is a lie

“The U.S. special forces team that hunted down Osama bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him, a U.S. national security official told Reuters.”

This is an obvious lie and for obvious reason. I am certain that the orders were to capture him alive: his capture alive would have been far more humiliating for him, just as the capture of Saddam. I hate those propaganda spins after the fact.

Take that Donald Trump (and all the rest of the non-bamabots)!

Barrack Obama has the last laugh – The president takes his revenge on Donald Trump

Ash Atalla guardian.co.uk, Monday 2 May 2011 20.00 BST

Pretty quick reporting on the White House Correspondent’s Obeisance Show two days ago, on April 30th., …. At the Top of the Daze Nooz! ………not that I give a rat’s ass about Trump.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

I’ve been entertained that media is willing ot show the “dark side of the moon”, in terms of The Donald’s hair-do. The back side of the convoluted equation.

It rivals the front, I have to say. And the back of his head is FLAT. FLAT flat flat.

diane - 2 May 2011

no doubt the Smithsonian has already approached the Donald on preserving and displaying that eighth wonder of the world upon his passing.

Osama bin Laden is dead and I am sad. Not sadness at his death, but sadness for his life and all the despair and destruction it fostered. Osama bin Laden could have done great things; he could have left this earth in better shape than he found it. He chose the opposite. A person of great wealth, his pious devotion to a supreme being should have led him to build schools and hospitals, to buy textbooks instead of Kalishnakovs, x ray machines instead of explosive devices. He could have led Afghanistan from an antiquated and fractured tribal system to a 21st century Garden of Eden. He chose instead to support the torture and murder of women for attending school. He chose to support torturing people for the crime of dancing at weddings. He chose to sow cruelty and death, where he could have nourished compassion and life. I don’t believe bin Laden will see a heaven or a hell. But I do know he left this world poorer than he found it. And whatever closure his death provides is tarnished with the legacy of hatred left in its wake.

brinn - 2 May 2011

Well said.

And the same could be said for so many more, less overt “evil-doers” still in our midst.

artemisia - 2 May 2011

so true. bin laden killed people blatantly. governments kill people with a laissez-faire attitude and a blase’ yawn

brinn - 2 May 2011

exactly.

Madman in the Marketplace - 2 May 2011

all I felt all day today was sad, too. Not just for all your reasons, and our part in helping him to become what he was, but also for the bloodthirsty celebratory howling of the mob in this country, which can apparently only agree that it’s great when we’re really good at dealing out death.

So much death, for nothing.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

Not like anything will end the death-dealing, either….

artemisia - 3 May 2011

i couldn’t agree more. and these are the same people who were furious when people in palestine and elsewhere in the world celebrated the 9/11 attacks. do you remember the outrage at images of old women handing out candy to children in celebration? The fury at images of gleeful arabs dancing in the streets? its bad when “they” do it. but fine when “we” do.

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 May 2011

yes … which is typical of this country.

7. catnip - 2 May 2011

A groaner from one of my brothers:

“Reports have surfaced that the USA used navy Seals to rid the world of Obama Bin Laden. No doubt, animal rights groups worldwide will condemn the use of seals in this fashion. What’s next?? The use of Whales? Sharks?? Shame on the USA, Shame, I say!”

Glad I had a busy day. He’s still dead, right?

I’m sure DARPA has considered actual seals, though. Terminator seals with frickin laser beams on their heads.

Commie takeover? Hmm, I should see if I can watch! Any suggestions?

brinn - 2 May 2011

Coolness — thanks, catnip! Anything to get me away from the idiotic BS that is “ding dong the witch is dead” BS that is all over the media here…

catnip - 2 May 2011

No doubt. They’ll be spinning the OBL story til the cows come home.

brinn - 2 May 2011

So fill me in — haven’t been paying attention to what’s what up north….anyone good got a snowball’s chance in hell of being elected to anything?

catnip - 2 May 2011

Depends: if you believe last week’s polls, the NDP (lefty socialist-type party) overtook the Liberal (centrist) party for second place (quite the feat!) with the Cons in first. But – no one is clearly headed for a majority, according to those polls.

The most important outcome: NO majority for the Cons. That would be a disaster.

9. catnip - 2 May 2011

11. brinn - 2 May 2011

And the pictures of the inside of the “mansion”?! WTF?

marisacat - 2 May 2011

I have seen a photo, a still grabbed off a vid that is going around, of his “bedroom” where supposedly we shot him.

Oh yeah the enormous mansion. Hardly.

brinn - 2 May 2011

Yeah, those are like 14-17 or something in that gallery….

This whole thing just smells bad….whatever the truth is, which we will probably never know, it does not bode well for us USAistanis..thought I’d love to give those out wrapped in flags and dancing around a nice punch in the throat….other than that, I am mostly non-plussed by this whole thing.

More interesting and telling is the surprising reactions of some of the people I know…one in particular lost most all of my respect in the past two days…

marisacat - 2 May 2011

ABC is showing the video taken inside… so it must be at their site…

Stil garbled reporting… depending on who you catch to listen to…

The local tlk radio had a ret general on today, Nash, who said the hard drives were missing from the computers…. aside from no hook ups or WiFi. So others say… But, ABC just saying the drives were taken by the Seals.

US official: New tape may be last from bin Laden

(AP) – 5 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. intelligence officials believe Osama bin Laden made a propaganda recording shortly before his death and expect that tape to surface soon.

It is unclear whether the tape is audio or video, but a U.S. official says that intelligence indicates it is already working its way through al-Qaida’s media pipeline. The official said the timing was coincidental and there is no indication he knew U.S. forces were bearing down on him.

A new recording from bin Laden would provide a final word from the beyond grave for a terrorist who taunted the U.S. with recorded propaganda for years. It could also provide fodder to those who insist he is still alive.

All sorts of tales told tonight by the older boys gathering Cub Scouts ’round the campfire.

Mike Allen – Osama bin Laden raid yields trove of computer data

More of a do-over really, – for Brennan’s hackneyed performance today in briefing room. Brennan frankly got eaten alive by Tapper after emphasizing the quick in and out, and playing up how how “minutes seemed like years”. Tapper just stuck him with a question about obtaining other valuable intelligence, documents, a safe, etc…

Brennan was all like  and  , that kinda shit.

Thus, weenie Eagle Scout Mike Allen’s effort over roasted marshmallows.

Anyways, All kinds of shit like this being spun and re-spun:
Obama, the slow methodical Obama.
Obama, the quick shootin gamblin cowboy.
Both!

Mission Accomplished*, BUT* ..
But just the close of one chapter. Both!

The Dem shills on the tube to a person, all aren’t worth a shit, all to varying degrees are diligently humping War with Pakistan.

The pacifist premise bending with Obama, the shapeshifting on Policy, the revisionism is truly incredible. Maddow went out of her way to make distinction without a difference that technically technically see, tho it was US patronage Arms and Money to Bin Laden in the old days, it was funneled through intermediaries, children, see. Intermediaries were responsible for turning Good Soviet-fighting Bin Laden into the Bad Boy he became. So, asked Maddow, you know who was responsible for that? PAKISTAN. A Two bit shill that Rachel. That Maddow might be seen as mere misguided political loyalist, oh BULLSHIT on that. This diversion game, from questioning the very premises of policy is as servile to Fascists just the same. Loathesome Shit and operative Larry ODonnell did his OoRah Obama thing, too. Ape Ed Schultz was uncaged to beat chest as well.
Shultz had Eric Dyson on who disclaimers aside was all too willing to speak of Obama’s street cred on Security in 2012.

Fuck em all.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

oh Dyson hs become disgusting. Happened years ago…. ugh, I don’t want to get started. what is that phrase a few people on Dkos threw at each other? “Lower than snake shit”.
8O

A few years ago I was searching on the radio dial for Rush… landed on Shultz and thought HE was Rush as he was so scatologically sexist, screaming in fact, about Hillary I just assumed it was Rush. In fact I did nto catch an identifying segment fo some time, hours maybe what with getting up and doing things then returning to listen. THEN I found out.. ”former” R Ed Shultz was on…

What a scream!!

(This is not an endorsement of Hillary!! )

BooHooHooMan - 2 May 2011

Shultz was full blown O BA MA! O BA MA! USA!USA!
And transitioned straightaway to Oh we all know this war *must* go on, Just one chapter closing, but now the question etc.

And I can’t get started on Hillary. I’d use anything on Hillary, any god damn thing. Not that its smart, but no problem here using anything in word on what a pol presumes as political privilige: Gender, identity, religion, race, orifices, excrement, children, anything they use as assumptive shield, and they use em all. Especially…..propriety.

Schultz, more to his discredit, if one can imagine such a thing, was of the quick to adopt “our gal Hillary” line. As did much of the Obsmacked kos kiddies did these last years. : ” I was for Him, But Hillary Should Primary Obama!

Oh Good Lord. Time to riff on The Aristocrats.
Fuckin chipmunk midget fuckers. Etc.

BooHooHooMan - 2 May 2011

Just to be clear Shultz never called for the Hill primary 2012 (NTIM!) but he did lay the “our gal Hill” slobber on ..the lard bellied turtle-dicked blockhead etc.

marisacat - 3 May 2011

Sorry I just don’t see ObRama as incredibly different from Hillary and Bill. And I wish they had never shown up.

It is all one huge trash heap.

But then I only voted for Bill once. I regret it along with ALL of my votes. Now i don’t even bother with ballot measures.

BooHooHooMan - 3 May 2011

I SO wanted her and hubby knocked the fuck out. Like THAT mattered.
Bummer Edwards didn’t win.
( I was off the Dem ranch then) But Yeh, not the sharpest bulb in the drawer here. LOL. Not the brightest ox knifed repeatedly in the barn. Somethin like that.. I was all Gore Liebershnizel in 2000  and threw my last gasp at Kerry in 2004.

19. catnip - 2 May 2011

The Cons won a majority gov’t. Assholes.

The NDP (lefty party) had a historic (yes, I said it: historic) nite. It’s now the official opposition (yay) and gained a record 60 seats. They also decimated the separatist BQ party in Quebec. Ignatieff almost cried. He managed to have a historic nite too: bringing the Liberal party down to its lowest showing ever. But he didn’t get the message: he lost his seat but didn’t resign tonite. Loser.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

Ignatieff almost cried. He managed to have a historic nite too: bringing the Liberal party down to its lowest showing ever.

Oh god. We may get him back. IIRC he used to like to camp here, long term.

Please take him! I’m sure he can melt away into one of your various think tanks. Maybe he can team up with David Frum.

HuffPo –

Howard Fineman
Obama Gets Osama
Goodbye Vietnam

WASHINGTON – The humor was typical Obama: droll, deadpan, dismissive — and more on target than anyone but the president could have known. Looking back on his comedy riff now, it’s clear that it marks the start of a major pivot point in our politics.

After nearly 50 years, the crippling “weak-on-defense” accusation — a staple of Republican attacks going back to Richard Nixon — may finally have reached the end of its useful life….

Oh just Bring Back Bush, Fineman.

I am so sick of these servile shits.
Falling all over themselves to WIN in the MIC arena.
Falling all over themselves to support better War.

marisacat - 2 May 2011

TONS of callers tonight to the local talk radio, they want out of the wars, out of everywhere.

Be worth watching. Not that we are leaving anywhere… of course.

diane - 2 May 2011

Shit, unfortunately I tuned in too late … decided to listen in order to hear some rational voices and that blowhard, pedantic voiced, finger wagger, Rothmann, is on, I can barely stand listening to his voice, but am trying to hang in to hear what the callers have to say, while cutting the radio off for: Still IN DANGER OF TERRISTS Nooz, and avoidance of the replays of Hitler History Rothmann broadcast, at least twice now, clearly attempting to analogize with Osama, despite Osama never having been a leader of any country.

Oh wonderful, some woman called in and let him know what an ass he is… loved it …of course he cut her off before she could finish, despite the wonderfully calm voice she used ….

marisacat - 3 May 2011

oh yeah he steamrollered her. Hard.

I can barely tolerate him, nor the guy who precedes him. I dip in and out, top of the hour usually, see what is bubbling along.

Today was esprcially bad, because of bin Laden, but if that had nto happened it would have been all about Lara Logan. Or more on the Shoa stuff.

So………….. a screaming nationalistic jingoistic mess, either way.

marisacat - 3 May 2011

replays of Hitler History

yes AND the JDL has come out and said the comparisons to Hitler are inappropriate.

I’d say they are.

diane - 3 May 2011

indeed, I just stopped short of calling about it, cause I’d really be pissed if I called and got cut off. He made one more Hitler analogy, shortly before I turned it off, just couldn’t stand listening to him, what a nasty bully who loves to hear his own nasty echo.

marisacat - 3 May 2011

He teaches too. UGH

marisacat - 3 May 2011

I just stopped short of calling about it

oh I would never call that channel, nor anyone on it. Waste of time. I DO however drop in emails when stuff gets really nutty.

Rothman, who is a couple of years older than I am and is a native San Franciscan as well, tried to pull some bullshit one night that SF had “always been integrated”. Wow, what a whopper. Considering it is not now, either. Considering in one not very large city, the schools are not at all equal. At all, at all.

Stuff like that blows me away. He is just one more San Francisco Republican who became a Democrat. Because it is a machine town and you can no longer get elected as a R.

Yeah right. Even calls himself a liberal Dmocrat. Well, Neo Liberal, intensely pro Israel.

All he is is a propagandist.

diane - 3 May 2011

I saw that on that creepy ‘bio’ … probably how he honed that parental, DADDY tone, abusing pupils.

marisacat - 3 May 2011

 He went to Whittier college.

diane - 3 May 2011

Wow, that integrated San Francisco shit was a REAL WHOPPER …and yeah saw the Nixon bit and speeches in Isreal unexplained as to what exactly he was speechifying about, other than bombing the shit out of terrerists which seems to be his thing.

Did you hear that asshole slobbering with him about how the mission of freeing us from terrerism is going to take centuries … fucking lunatic.

marisacat - 3 May 2011

He sends a lot of mixed messages on the wars. His mother was a native San Franciscan, but his father was a post war Jewish immigrant, a doctor here in town.. Yeah, the traditional back and forth to and from Israel.

He is a horrible person.

White House modifies Osama bin Laden account

By JOSH GERSTEIN | 5/2/11 11:37 PM EDT Updated: 5/3/11 12:02 AM EDT

The White House backed away Monday evening from key details in its narrative about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, including claims by senior U.S. officials that the Al Qaeda leader had a weapon and may have fired it during a gun battle with U.S. forces.

Officials also retreated from claims that one of bin Laden’s wives was killed in the raid and that bin Laden was using her as a human shield before she was shot by U.S. forces.
At a televised White House briefing Monday afternoon, Deputy National Security Adviser John Brennan said bin Laden joined in the fight that several residents of the Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound put up against the Navy SEALs during the 40-minute operation.

“He [bin Laden] was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know,” Brennan said.

At a Pentagon briefing earlier in the day, a senior defense official said bin Laden used a woman as a human shield so he could fire shots. “He was firing behind her,” the official said.

In another background briefing early Monday morning, a senior administration official also said bin Laden put up a fight. “He did resist the assault force. And he was killed in a firefight,” the official said.

However, during a background, off-camera briefing for television reporters later Monday, a senior White House official said bin Laden was not armed when he was killed, apparently by the U.S. raid team.

Another White House official familiar with the TV briefing confirmed the change to POLITICO, adding, “I’m not aware of him having a weapon.”

“The bottom line is the team that entered that room was met with resistance and took appropriate action,” said a third American official.

The White House on Monday night declined to elaborate on the nature of the resistance bin Laden allegedly put up. However, an official confirmed that the Al Qaeda founder was shot twice, once in the head and once in the chest.

At the Monday evening briefing for TV reporters, a senior official also corrected what Brennan described earlier as “my understanding” that the woman who acted as a shield for bin Laden was one of his wives and was killed.

“A different guy’s wife was killed,” a different official familiar with the briefing for TV reporters said Monday night. Bin Laden’s wife was “injured but not killed,” the official said.

Another official familiar with the operation said it did not appear that any woman was used as a human shield,

Okay wait, let’s just interrupt this cackling clusterfuck for a deep breath everybody. There now. Carry on:

but that the woman killed and the one injured were hurt in the crossfire. The official said he believed Brennan had mixed up the episode involving bin Laden’s wife with another encounter elsewhere in the compound.

“Two women were shot here. It sounds like their fates were mixed up,” said the U.S. official. “This is hours old and the full facts are still being ascertained as those involved are debriefed.”

In another discrepancy, Brennan said during his on-the-record briefing that bin Laden’s son Khalid was killed in the attack. However, the official White House transcript had the counterterrorism adviser saying it was another son, Hamza, who perished in the raid.

The White House didn’t offer a reason for any of the changes. However, Brennan noted during his televised briefing that his information came from reports from the scene as well as live video feeds of the raid. “I wasn’t there,” he said.

Oh yes, Brennan was a total botch yesterday afternoon. Came out assuming an attaboys and high five fest of a presser. So, Hmmm. The revise and extend. And retract.
I read the NYT piece on it earlier, the Imperial Record really, but it did let one tid out that sure was to raise eyebrow as it were…whether OBL was armed (by all accounts to date, when was he not?) and, if so..whether he shot himself.

NYT- 3 pages in to their account

The commandos found Bin Laden on the third floor, wearing the local loose-fitting tunic and pants known as a shalwar kameez, and officials said he resisted before he was shot above the left eye near the end of the 40-minute raid. The American government gave few details about his final moments. “Whether or not he got off any rounds, I frankly don’t know,” said Mr. Brennan, the White House counterterrorism chief.

But a senior Pentagon official, briefing on the condition of anonymity, said it was clear Bin Laden “was killed by U.S. bullets.”

So. Maybe they’ll sort it all out.
It was viewed lived, it wasn’t viewed live.
They have video, they don’t.
He was armed, or he wasn’t.
Some Guy’s Wife? (WTF) or Some Other Guy’s Wife ( Surgical Operation! Oh they’re all the same, right?}
Our Bullets or- Gasp – His own did him in.
Narrative changer there, eh?
OR- Gasp Gasp – He and his Wife EVA BraunLaden BOTH did themselves in after having 40 minutes to think about it as the compound was under siege. I mean Holy Fuck, we wouldn’t want to totally botch the storyline ending now AND thoroughly upstage the Hitler franchise narrative for All Time now, would we?

marisacat - 3 May 2011

So… was Evita Peron there? Franco?

Brennan should be dismissed. I read thru the entire Brennan and Carney press briefing, and one earlier with several “Senior Admin Officials”.

They so need to release the fucking movie. You know, the Real Time one.

The minute it was released bin Laden was dead, the story was garbled. Key elements were being told differently by different people.

Brennan: Video release debated

By: Jennifer Epstein
May 3, 2011 08:42 AM EDT

Making the round of morning shows Tuesday, deputy national security advisor John Brennan acknowledged the existence of photos, videos — including a burial at sea video — and other information from the mission that killed Osama bin Laden, but said there had not yet been a final determination on what, if anything, would be released.

“We are trying to anticipate the reaction to news of Osama bin Laden’s death,” President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism advisor said Tuesday on NBC. “So the additional release of information or any type of photo evidence is something we have to take into account in terms of what reaction might be to it. We are doing it in a careful manner.”

The Obama administration is also weighing whether to release video footage of the raid on bin Laden’s compound that was captured by Navy SEALs whose helmets were equipped with cameras, Brennan said on ABC. . . . .
