One report said 10 died across the border marches and protests…. and I noticed that The Christian Science Monitor cannot spell … Their headline said, “Nabka”. WASPs they are, and WASPs they shall remain… LOL

Ob will or, more accurately, may speak at the up-coming AIPAC event:

Obama expected at pro-Israel gathering

[N]either the White House nor AIPAC would confirm his appearance, but two source familiar with the plan said he’s expected to address the group the day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears, and amid a week of intense focus on the “Arab Spring” sweeping the Middle East and deeply unsettling many Israelis and their American allies.   . . . . .

IOZ in inimitable fashion:

[I]n any case, what you must do is escape the teleology of “combatants” and “non-combatants” and “civilians” and all that altogether. As a matter of general principle, it is necessary to adopt a fundamentally pacifistic position; to view violence as violence, killing as killing, and to simply reject it, uniformly, as the wages of evil. Now perhaps you will be called upon one day to violate those principles; Space Nazis have invaded your town; a bear in a lobster suit is raping your wife in a hot air balloon and you have just one shot with the breech-loaded muzzle that happens to be lying powdered and ready at your feet.

As my friend Adam says, Hypothetical Is The New Real! It is an infinitely entertaining game, the invention of new and Byzantine circumstances in which the only solution is violence and death, but it serves no end but to justify via unreality those things which reality obliges you to condemn.

oh, jeesh ….I was so pissed at that fairly young asshole implying (to my read), hours after I professed so much love, that those not reading twitter, or still using land lines were obsolesced dithering fools (and I still don’t agree (asshole)) …and now I’m loving him all over
again ….sigh. ;0)

I came here from IOZ. Works both ways.

marisacat - 16 May 2011

😉

I noticed he has a good one up today on… raping vs bombs awayyyy!!!!!!!!!!

diane - 16 May 2011

…. I mean, can we all stop pretending that we are shocked and stupefied that a powerful Western politician is a violent predatory psychopath? It sorta, like, goes with the territory.

sounds about right to me.

2. Madman in the Marketplace - 15 May 2011

So, Obviously, I’m Reading The New Issue Of O Magazine.

It was the usual “you need to eat six servings of fruits and vegetables” moments, at which, obviously, the frazzled housewife is all “oh, my God, I can’t even,” and then they do the TAH-DAHHHH moment where they pull out the honest-to-God rubber model food plate to show her that FIVE BROCCOLI FLORETS is a single serving of vegetables. “Wow, maybe I CAN do that,” smiles, applause.

I hate that shit. I hate when magazines are all “do you realize your entree is really FOUR servings of blah blah blah” to people. We’re not the ones with the problem here. The problem is with whoever decided that the official serving sizes were for people recovering from stomach surgery.

I’m sorry, a serving of bread should be two slices. You can run your mouth all you want about how in the 1940s cupcakes could only be seen with the aid of an advanced microscope, blah blah we’re so indulgent blah blah portion control, but I have literally never seen a human being sit down to lunch and eat a single slice of bread. It’s not plausible.

diane - 15 May 2011

…they pull out the honest-to-God rubber model food plate to show her that FIVE BROCCOLI FLORETS is a single serving of vegetables.

They must have borrowed that plate from the Bay Fat Hunter.

I loved this one from that same, Lazy Self-Indulgent Book Reviews, site:

Near Death Experience.
(My heart is still pounding.)

We have two cats. A mean cat, and a nice cat (some percentage of you two-cat owners know what I’m talking about – they’re like buddy cops from a 1980s movie). Nice cat was sitting next to me. Time passes. I, enthralled by the internet, pay her little attention. I lazily reach over and begin aggressively ruffling her butt, which she enjoys.

I sense a disturbance in the Force, glance over.

Mean cat has taken her place, her ears are flat against her head, and I am about to be killed for my insolence. I literally throw myself out of bed to avoid her death-claws.

Thank goodness I only have one cat, and have learned better than pull a distracted stunt like that with her.

diane - 15 May 2011

siiiiiigh, I see I fucked that post all up. Just pretend the first sentence is block quoted, and the last sentence isn’t….thanks……sigh.

marisacat - 15 May 2011

Speaking of O magazine.. I jsut read that OWN, Oprah Winfrey Network, is very visibly struggling. Poor ratings for a long time as OW creams thru, and fires, all sorts of people at the network.

Hey! Good Luck! Maybe Obama and BFH can help out? No?

Madman in the Marketplace - 15 May 2011

I think O’s time is past …

marisacat - 15 May 2011

Many years ago, she actually did manage interesting shows. As I have watched all of less than 20 over her two decades plus national career, I can’t really say… but she had a show after Columbine that was MUCH broader than anything she would do now.

But this whole game of, as I call it, “keeping women nodding in assent” really is a game. And daily is much much more than mere entertainment.

I just find her dreary.

diane - 15 May 2011

I saw that recently, and won’t say it didn’t cheer me up. So sick of our Appointed Media Parents, let alone people who should know better, trying to defend them as such.

This, from the comments:

I like this idea that what this has done is bring “closure” to Americans. It’s like the Kubler-Ross stage they don’t tell you about – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance, and massacring a million people you’ve never met halfway around the world.

marisacat - 16 May 2011

you know how it goes… as long as we “got” something!!

ts - 16 May 2011

I still remember this “op-ed” as one of the most honest ever published.

http://www.theonion.com/articles/we-must-retaliate-with-blind-rage-vs-we-must-retal,11537/

marisacat - 16 May 2011

Yes as I am just hearing the charges against Qaddafi, one of which is killing civilians. And something about going after anti government types. (So rare for states to do that!!) And so on.

Wedding parties across many nations rejoice, til they hear it is not a charge against the US.

…………………. as we move into the 4th month. (“Days, maybe weeks…” )

4. ts - 16 May 2011

Is there anything remaining of the Fourth Amendment? Bravo to Justice Ginsberg for using some common sense in her minority opinion.

Click to access 09-1272.pdf

marisacat - 16 May 2011

thanks for that…

No, I think the 4th Amendment is gone.

One thing that blew my mind, was when the SC ruled it is OK for cops, and similar (we have so many! local state feds etc.) ) to enter ON TO your property, if your car is parked outside of the garage, and place surrepticious GPS on the car. NOT however OK if you have a gate, fence, any sort of divider that is closed.

diane - 16 May 2011

Wasn’t that just the 9th District Court (yeah ugggh Cali’s included), or has that now been extended all across the country?

Stunning classism, I remember even a conservative judge was enraged by the classism.

Madman in the Marketplace - 16 May 2011

they ground the 4th up to feed to police dogs … it keeps their titanium teeth shiny.

5. marisacat - 16 May 2011

In the same vein, Madman sent me this, which is pathetic and hilarious.

Pooor Brother Cornel. Well as i said, may they, the vaunted Obama voters, get caught in a long unending game of three card monte.

[link fixed]

diane - 16 May 2011

the link’s not working hon.

marisacat - 16 May 2011

fixed…

BTW is it raining where you are? We had hail last night and now rain thru Wednesday.

gah… it makes thing SPROUT. I am going thru Kleenex boxes at a mad rate.

diane - 16 May 2011

It’s a lot colder, pale pale grey sky, and just a bit drizzly.

Spoke with someone from Pittsburgh yesterday, they’ve been getting a lot of rain, I can’t imagine that bodes well for the Mississippi mess, with the Ohio River flowing into it.

marisacat - 16 May 2011

the Mississippi mess

No surprise, there are now reports that the opening of the gates at Morganza, may not really work after all.

Madman in the Marketplace - 16 May 2011

pretty sad bunch, either blind or lying.

6. BooHooHooMan - 16 May 2011

Geithner Is Obama Admin’s Indispensable ManAlbert Hunt, Bloomberg

😆 – > Al Hunt, 10 cents a dance.

Fucking shill.

7. BooHooHooMan - 16 May 2011
marisacat - 16 May 2011

Some host was burbling long on KGO a couple of days ago, about how Obby ws polling at 60% approval. So I looked at RCP… it was a big fat outlier.

The rest showed him where he had been.

The dead cat count bounce.

8. catnip - 16 May 2011
marisacat - 16 May 2011

oh thank you for that… terrific column. Someone has to say it. I sent it around…

😉

catnip - 16 May 2011

And right on cue, one of the dkos Obots – Whimsical – showed up in the comments.

marisacat - 16 May 2011

oh I see.. yes lovely… sounds like Meteor Slides frankly.

They stand by him because all not doing so does is enable people who are much worse to be elected. You yourself admit it is essentially a two party system. (And yes, I’ve read your book- it’s an entertaining fairy tale, but would never work in the real world).

Refusing to give Obama and the Democrats credit for the things they’ve done right makes you seem shrewish and one-sided. No wonder leftist media wont publish your stuff. Why should they publish someone whose essentially doing the Republican’s work for them?

Try Redstate. I’m sure they’d be more than happy to run Obama and Democratic bashing cartoons.

catnip - 16 May 2011

Same old shit.

– if you don’t support Obama, the Palin terroristas win.
– republish Obama propaganda or we’ll blacklist you.
– RedState is that way >>>

marisacat - 16 May 2011

All so predictable.

9. marisacat - 17 May 2011

Oh too funny!

Maria left Arnold because 10 years ago he fathered a child with a long time member of the household staff.

Achtung! Pay attention!!

Why… is…… she…… surprised?

Apparenlty Arnold has just now issued a statement, saying also that he has always taken financial responsibility for the bambino/a.

Etc. Etc.

And so on.

marisacat - 17 May 2011

Oh! AND it is being reported that he has decided n a project for his next movie… which is entitled…

CRY MACHO

What a scream!!

catnip - 17 May 2011

Title change: CRY MACHO SCUM

marisacat - 17 May 2011

Be interesting to watch the box office returns on that one.

ugh. Whne I used to do massive cleans, myself if I did not hve unemployed friends to dragoon…. when I ws done I would make sure I had a couple (or more!) Arnold movies, just flop on the bed and eat cookies and bon bons for a day or two.

Recover.

I mean he was always awful, but his movies did blow stuff up… but ugh I cannot look at their faces even. For years now.

catnip - 17 May 2011

Too much testosterone for me.

marisacat - 17 May 2011

well they had t be looked at as comedies. Where stuf blew up.

But the running joke was completely over when he got so cosy with the R party (despite all tht shite about how liberal and green and socialist he is / was, etc) and then when he ran for Governator.

diane - 17 May 2011

My “fondest,” ya may as well bleakly laugh ….or commit suicide ….recollect of the recall coup, was the weeping Issa (wasn’t he a side by side Afghani Warrior, ..alongside that DEMON, Osama?…or some such?), having been recently, and most unwillingly, sodomized by the Groper, … whom the Groper, …in a true I FUCK YOU moment, labeled The Father of the Recall Effort …..(in a snickering, true, Nazi Groper …..“Spirit”)

A pox on em both (and Grey Davis, the Huff Puffer,….etc.), and sorry bout that run on sentence …..hard to fuckin finalize that flow…….:0) …..

marisacat - 17 May 2011

oh The Recall… it had so many ”moments”

10. BooHooHooMan - 17 May 2011

What that man has done to the Kennedy reputation,
Why I NEver..! 😆

marisacat - 17 May 2011

Here is a treat! A few days ago, after the joint nnounce, I guess at his Facebook page or similar, one son of theirs posted that as “we drive Hummers”, they “are going to keep on moving”.. something like that.

It may not matter at all, but it is a more complicated story now.

11. marisacat - 17 May 2011

OMIGD… that ruling from the SCOTUS yesterday, on the right of cops to enter if they somehow know you are in there, bt may be flushing evidence…

was EIGHT TO ONE.

Eight to 1 Only Ginsberg held out. (Not that I cared, at all, for Sotomoto or Kagan, my nickname for her is “Shreck-American”, LOL …. )

we are so fucked.

12. marisacat - 17 May 2011

well………… it made me laugh.

Dennis Perrin :

[O]bama’s presidency is the next logical step in eliminating whatever challenges to centralized power remain. If “progressives” didn’t balk at Clinton’s cruder corporate model, they sure as fuck aren’t abandoning Obama’s sleeker version. At this pace, we’ll eventually have a mass murdering lesbian president in a wheelchair. Liberals will rejoice (FDR and Eleanor in one!) while reactionaries curse political correctness. The country will be broke, but only nihilists will care. Politics is all about compromise, even if you have no power to negotiate. Freedom ain’t free
