I’ve been reading a lot over at Balko recently. I don’t know if its recently gotten really bad, or whether it’s a continuous trend, but there doesn’t seem to be a day where a police officer isn’t beating on some poor slob without reason. I mean, Balko himself apologized for not covering Trayvon until a week after the shooting because there were 5-6 other police shootings of innocent people/bystanders to cover.
There is plenty of it…. We have all colors shot and killed – I mean in the greater Bay Area…. . And beaten…. Mostly men, but that is the only slight restriction (and the cops appear very happy to almost single out women in protest situations, like NYC).
It really is ANYONE vulnerable.
POC, whites, poor whites, the homeless and the sadly deranged. People of several colors have been shot inside the family home or in the driveway, cops responding to emergency calls from, yes, the family, but with the family right there begging for no shooting.
Last year a white man in Marin, inside his own home not deranged but a bit tipsy and having made a intemperate comment (”Oh I think I will just kill myself!”) was tasered three times, with his dog frantic and his wife begging for them to stop. It was all caught on tape for once, the whole scene….
It all started with a call to 911 for an EMT team and a cop car decided to respond as well.
That poor man in upstate NY, Chamberlain, awful case. I think the cops did what they did as it was public housing…. And it languished until his children tried to get some notice at the same time as Trayvon….
I think it’s been going on for a while, but now there are cameras on every cell phone and people tweeting and facebooking things as they witness them.
