I saw the vid of this, it was hilarious.  They hustled her to her limo, she lost a shoe in the process and finally they stuffed her in, butt first.

More of that please.

THIS I had not seen.  What a scream, and so perfect.

Clergy members protect their robes from the rain as Pope Benedict XVI arrives for the celebration of the Eucharist at the Olympic stadium in Berlin on September 22, 2011.   TIME Mag:

Isn’t it cute how they need each other to get a fucking rain condom on? (moiv sent me this spectacular photo…. )

John Halle, one of the poster/blogger/commenters that I really like over at corrente, was at the Wall St Occupation protest….

Report from the front

[A]s a parent of a small child who I was considering bringing along to this, but thankfully did not, I wasn’t sure how to respond to what seemed to be an act of almost insane recklessness. Initially, I was was appalled, but in retrospect, in revisiting the mental image, I couldn’t help but be moved by the commitment and courage displayed, and by the recognition that finally the stakes of our confrontation are becoming clear. As Marx said “we are now required to compelled to face with sober senses, (our) real conditions of life, and (our) relations with (our) kind.” While few of us will find ourselves capable of this man’s courage, this is the kind of reaction which will be required of us when we face up to the realities we are encountering with sober senses.

A description of the remainder of the march requires the trite but, in this context, altogether accurate phrase, “violently dispersed by the police”, though this is, of course, usually applied to various third world dictatorships. One block south the police began to erect a second set of barriers with the purpose of dividing the march into smaller groups, separated by a block or so, arresting those who refused to get out of the street, and who resisted. The arrests were undertaken with considerable brutality which I was a direct witness to, and almost a victim of.  . . . . .

Madman posted this wonderful link on the last thread and it is well worth carrying over…. a talented and imaginative paper artist is quietly, secretly (til they are found in the stacks or resting upon a far away, forgotten window sill) and anonymously gifting various Edinburgh places dedicated to books, art, cinema etc. with beauteous paper sculpture….

I enjoyed this interesting literary/sculptural mystery … a nice break from all of the depressing stuff. Linked via Balloon Juice.

Gallery of floats at UK Daily Telegraph

At a distance, I have been enjoying the carnival floats around Europe this year, especially the satirical ones depicting the major political figures… Witness Berlusconi above. And here.

And, they surely have picked up on that shoe salesman, car salesman grin of Obama’s.  Eek.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: A homeless man drinks out of a mug bearing the image of a $100 bill    [Vladimir Pirogov/Reuters]

Tapper v Gibbs:

[T]APPER: Does the president agree with what Mr. Brennan wrote in USA Today last week, that some of the more political charged criticism of the Obama administration’s counterterrorism policies serve the goals of Al Qaida?

GIBBS: Well, again, I — what John said was that terrorists seek to strike fear and use fear to divide. I think what — what John pointed out was that these are not giant men. These are not — these are not great people. And I think — again, I think John’s service, dating back more than two decades, is something to be commended.

TAPPER: Does the president agree with the language Mr. Brennan used?

GIBBS: I think the president believes that we should not — that our national security should not be a partisan political game that seeks to divide us; instead something that hopefully will unite us in efforts, whether it’s in Afghanistan, in the efforts — the military efforts and civilian efforts that you see right now, or in activities that are taking place around the world to make this country safer.

TAPPER: And if it doesn’t, then it serves the goals of Al Qaida?

GIBBS: Well, I — I — I — it — it seeks to divide and it makes — it makes us working together to fight a common enemy much more difficult.

In cheerier news… I read that Leslie Gelb, probably some sort of emeritus by now with CFR, wants Summers gone, Geithner gone… he seems to favor Volcker… a purge is in order, I gather.

Rahm too, Leslie says, can go go go go go… and chatty cathy, Jim Jones, who, I guess, lies in bed at night worrying about who is aiding AQ.  Not that I believe that simple syrup, for one minute..  Jones is MORE LIKE Cheney, than not.

Poor Leslie,… not a graceful flourish of a sentence, or two:

But Mr. Obama is the president, and except for the right-wing crazies, most Americans still recognize his great talents and promise. It is he who’s got to be helped. So it is they who’ve got to go. [clunk!]

Plus, and more important, he’s missed a few realities out here, on the poor and suffering ground. But, dear Leslie, just trying to help. You know?

Nevertheless!

Urge to purge.  A surge of purges.  Purge them all!  (There you go!)

Fine with me, from the far ‘back 40′ of the peanut gallery!  There will be months of this sort of volley, ’til that too dies out.  But, fun for now…

Bring on The Mess!

Last but hardly least, Sully has to be good for something… ;)

I think the Obama float is hilarious… and the Merkel is mild, compared to some I have seen.  A couple of years ago, she was depicted as the she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. On all fours with a multitude of pendulous breasts… and of course by now I forget what scandalous entities, being suckled by the chief executive, R & R were to symbolise.

Hey, carry on!

US President Barack Obama has found his way onto a number of floats that will parade through the streets of Cologne on Rose Monday. Here, Germany expresses its love of the new American leader. Obama has the Nobel Peace Prize under his arm and his briefcase alludes to his efforts at arms reduction. And what is Lady Liberty doing? Lighting a fire under his ass, apparently. [Spiegel - photo gallery - article]

yeah.. that is lady liberty lighting a fire under his ass… in graphic fashion.

 It won’t be working! News Flash!

(just about to send this to “publish” and realise they should have hung a few Hawai’ian leis off his rump! .. or his neck!)

Friedrichshafen, Germany: Swans swim on the Bodensee [Sascha Schuermann/AFP/Getty Images]

I hardly know what to say about the news, such as it is anymore.  The future seems to be nothing but war and restriction.  Sanctions, bannings.  Extra-judicial murder.

Bombs.

Maybe just a pic of swans eternally drifting on one of those lakes that seem as glass moving out from the land.
