2. marisacat - 11 June 2007

Wanted to link to NFN’s post on KerrEy and the Phoenix program, in the last thread, it lanquished a bit in Spam file (spam was good for about two weeks, but now is netting people again, inlcuding me)

3. Revisionist - 11 June 2007

Its only Monday and McJoan has already dusted off her “Oh well, we lost this one…” post.

Seriously, If Reid and Pelosi cant even get non-binding, toothless, meaningless bills through what fucking good are they.

What exactly have they passed this year?

4. Revisionist - 11 June 2007

PS…

Has anyone told McJoan that Gonzo cant be inpeached… (he cant can he? that was my understanding that appointees are beyond that)

5. marisacat - 11 June 2007

the senate did vote on him…

6. BooHooHooMan - 11 June 2007

Ah yes the crazy hazy days of 120 degree summer sets in where the only spigots to be turned on in Iraq will flow blood. Meanwhile the most pathetic bunch of Democrats to have ever held a majority in my @ 50 year lifetime does NOTHING Impotent, flaccid, and unskillful politically there actions in fact, there actions as a matter of record– leads to the inevitable conclusion: No mere acquiesence, not even complicity. The Democratic Congress and the Democratic Party is committed to a Blood for Oil Strategy. They are committed to the continued use of oppressive Arab Regimes and Israel to perpetuate destabilization in the region. Gumming to Death any notion of Peace.

I have a wicked summer chest cold – I never get sick – and I feel like my whole system is just wiped out. In a few days I’ll have that “never felt better” feeling you get when you come around from such things… Right now, I think that feeling is gone for good in matters of consequence, though. I agree with madman when he says that it’s going to take a collapse to change things.

Other than the occassional wisecrack I don’t have much to offer now miss d in the ways of story telling…..

Revisionist: Good news/ Bad news re Gonzales and Impeachment

Good News: Yes, he CAN be Impeached.
Article Two, “Civil Officer” , Plenty have called for it.
Bad News: They won’t.
They don’t have the confidence to order take out.

7. BooHooHooMan - 11 June 2007

There = they’re …….good luck with the rest…

8. marisacat - 11 June 2007

well BBC America led wtih the block on the no confidence vote.

I am guessing Howard to do a few Saturday responses and whoever else they think will still sell.

As Sharlet pointed out in the RS article… Webb talks and does jack shit (and what about that gun?). Tester appears a supine wuss, LOL Window dressing, Ad Ware… that is all any of these people are. ANY OF THEM.

And god knows Webb was bad news day one, a year and a half ago. Tester too, argh. McCaskill, Casey, Klobuchar…

9. marisacat - 11 June 2007

The only thing that helps a chest cold is bed rest. I find I have to stay warm and still. Fluids.

Take care…

10. wozzle - 11 June 2007

Yo, LC, in your entreaty from the last thread…

Go for this realationship with an intelligent and forward-thinking person. There is no reason to deny yourself or your friend a chance at better friendship and who knows what else. As long as she grabs the tabs…

11. marisacat - 11 June 2007

As long as she grabs the tabs…

There you go!

12. BooHooHooMan - 11 June 2007

You can’t get 60 votes against Gonzales??? WTF? You have to earmark the shit out of the Troops Home c benchmarks Kabuki Bill #1 to get it to pass. Howard Dean can play good cop to the base if he wants…the quarterly downslide of money and support will continue.

Let’s extrapolate out a bit….when is enough enough? Who is going to BE Around to rally around the message , the Dem Candidate in 08. I have friends – (though not as politically involved -no GOTV work) –who have voted straight D for 30 years. They said they’d vote R in protest because they’re so pissed.
I had no water worth carrying.

13. wozzle - 11 June 2007

What would you expect from a struggling musician and a whatever-it-was-that-sounded-vaguely-medical?

And why (referring to dK) in Dog’s name do we have to listen to more – and yet more – excuses for Harry Reid’s sorry-ass “No confidence” vote? His heart wasn’t in it. Perhaps his liver was. And Kerrey is a war criminal; we should all leave him at that. I hope he got his fill of Agent Orange as many of my grunt friends did.

14. marisacat - 11 June 2007

well I thought the blogs misrepresented the Howard Sat Response. They said (what I read – one of whom was mcjoan) “Howard gets it, we need to end the war”

That is NOT what I heard. I heard Howard sent to clamp off the bleeding. He ADMITTED that the Dems had been elected to stop the war, but he then pointed at Bush.

Wrong move.

I found the whole thing hilarious and revealing.

Good luck Howard.

15. wozzle - 11 June 2007

Howard missed his chance at becoming the next sacrificial lamb. Personally, I’m glad for him adn his family. Publicly “SELLOUT”!

16. Sabrina Ballerina - 11 June 2007

Revisionist, Bhhm is right about impeachment, I think. The Constitution mentions ‘civil officers’ –

Here’s some info on impeachment, you have to sort through it though:

Impeachment

A formal accusation of wrongdoing against a public official. According to the United States Constitution, the House of Representatives can vote to impeach an official, but the Senate actually tries the case.

Mostly judges are targeted for impeachment – anyway, I agree with Bhhm, he can be impeached, but he won’t be. I think short of criminal charges against him, he will remain in office until Bush is gone.

Bhhm, hope you feel better soon. Poor Miss D cannot sleep without a bedtime story. I wrote one the other night, but lost it somehow before posting. I think she would have liked it though! Lol!

Cad from the previous thread, re dk. Couldn’t agree more. I can’t wait to see them try to stomp out any dissention this time. That Iraq Supplemental vote pretty much opened the eyes of anyone whose eyes were still closed, imo. Except for the phonies, operators, consultants et al. They’ll be working overtime. Hope the pay is worth selling out your country, defending those who are complicit with the ongoing crime that is the Iraq occupation and the rest of the corruption.

17. ms_xeno - 11 June 2007

Pelosi and Reid have passed lots of stuff since the year started. Most of it providing ample rationale for the six-foot clothespin I keep clamped on my nose whenever I pay attention to the so-called news. >:

18. Madman in the Marketplace - 11 June 2007

The no confidence thing was just another song-and-dance, “see, we tried, but those CORRUPT REPUBLICANS …. SEND US MONEY!!!!!

19. Madman in the Marketplace - 11 June 2007

catching up on Countdown coverage of the vote in the Senate … Schumer is just so … ineffective, clueless, pathetic, outplayed, outwitted … a tool. Or, as I think is the case, just someone who is fine w/ how things are, but know that his “brand” demands that he appears to do something while accomplishing nothing. If the Donks wanted rid of Gonzales, they’d start the impeachment process.

So fucking sick of these people.

23. New Fake Name - 11 June 2007

Speaking of state-sponsored torture…

A former American army torturer has laid bare the traumatic effects of American interrogation techniques in Iraq – on their victims and on the perpetrators themselves.

Tony Lagouranis conducted mock executions, forced men and boys into agonising stress positions, kept suspects awake for weeks on end, used dogs to terrify detainees and subjected others to hypothermia.

But he confesses that he was deeply scarred by the realisation that what he did has contributed to the downfall of American forces in Iraq.

Mr Lagouranis, 37, suffered nightmares and anxiety attacks on his return to Chicago, where he works as a bouncer.

Between January 2004 and January 2005, first at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison – by then cleaning up its act as the prisoner abuse scandal was breaking – and then in Mosul, north Babil, he tortured suspects, most of whom he says turned out to be innocent. He says that he realised he had entered a moral dungeon when he found himself reading a Holocaust memoir, hoping to pick up torture tips from the Nazis.

I would just note that Mr. Tony Lagouranis’ US Mil torture duty in Iraq took place AFTER the Abu Ghraib torture tapes were revealed to Rumsfeld and Bush in early 2004.

It is stomach turning, New Fake Name. And when Durbin brought it up on the floor of the Senate, the Dems allowed the Rightwing to brow-beat him into apologizing. We’ve talked about this before. But I do not remember any Dems going after anyone who smeared Durbin at that time. They should have been all over the media, slamming anyone who dared to defend torture. Obviously it is now established and public policy.

There was outrage over Paris Hilton getting out of jail last week. The media was in an uproar over it! On liberal blogs, nearly half the commenters were furious that she might go free. You would have thought she had tortured someone to death, or dropped a cluster-bomb on innocent civilians the national outrage was so intense. Maybe had those been her crimes, there would have been less outrage and she’d still be free. Anyway, the outrage worked, she’s back behind bars – we should all feel safer.

It astounds me that there is this kind of outrage over something so minor while the genocidal crimes and torture of this government barely register at all.

I never thought it could get this bad, even when I was afraid of what they might do. I really did think that if the crimes ever reached this level, someone would stop them.

26. marisacat - 11 June 2007

LOL What did the netroots accomplish… a taxing question. I say its job, in the sense that it had a caged focus group, of at least some voters in among the operatives! was product enhancement / product push, I would go so far as deputised, directly, by the DSCC and DCCC — the selling of conservative Dems as progressive.

Here are some quotes on the immigration bill (thanks to Blogometer with links to either their speeches or a report in The Guardian)… (the bill admittedly not a winner on any front, I do concur)…

6/11: The New Center
Guess who said the following on the Senate immigration bill:

– Here’s what I’m looking for in immigration reform: I want immigration reform that prioritizes tougher security at our ports and borders to keep out terrorism, illegal drugs and illegal immigrants.

– We must also gain control over our porous borders by properly utilizing the assets and legal means now at our disposal. We have these laws and these means. The President needs to enforce them.

– The Senate immigration bill was a deeply, deeply flawed proposal, and I’m glad it has finally landed in the political graveyard. America needs enforcement, not amnesty.

first was Tester (D MT). Second was Webb (D VA) and third was Boyda, Democrat from KS in the House.

Rah!… rah.

27. marisacat - 11 June 2007

Co-equal branches of gov’t?

nah:

Clearly, the Justice Department has nothing to hide. After an hour of stirring talk from witnesses about the need for checks and balances, executive branch transparency and the miscalculations of inherent power that led to the American Revolution, Justice lawyer Steven Bradbury had precious little to say when Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-New York) asked him to provide the legal opinions the Bush administration relied on when unleashing a secret warrantless NSA surveillance program that ended up spying on American citizens:

“No.”

Bradbury said the documents are confidential and suggested that if the committee were to try to get at them, executive privilege might get in the way. Of course, the president, who Bradbury said re-authorized the NSA program every 45 days for almost six years, would have to erect that hurdle himself.

“So you’re saying you won’t give to Congress the requested documents because they assert an executive privilege that you haven’t asserted?” asked an incredulous Nadler.

Yes.

Then Nadler huffed and … well, nothing. They’ll say just enough to get stuff to run on. That’s it.

30. marisacat - 11 June 2007

Waxman is not a party of one.

And deep down (the work hard to hide it from the hapless base) the Democrats just wanna INHERIT all that power that BushCheney knew to grab.

Parasites.

#28. You’re right, MiTM. That is a great piece. I finally got to see Crash (w/ Sandra Bullock) last nite. Quite the movie. Kind of like Grand Canyon but with the focus on racism. I think that’s what the unapologetic mexican’s post was about as well: the interconnectivity that’s too easy to ignore when we seem to be more and more isolated (or choose to be)…which reminds me of one enlightening book from the 70s: The Pursuit of Loneliness by Philip Slater (who I just discovered also writes for HuffPo – hmmm…small world). Round we go…

This is why I’m not back to writing at my blog yet. I’m pretty scattered. Off to see my doctor in the morning. I believe he possesses a magic pill so I must take my trusty sword to extract it from him. Fetch my steed!

(Watching too many movies is bad for your sanity eventually. Mind you, so is reality…)

lucid,
You have an obligation to “merge” the artistic and the scientific. It is your destiny. And luc, I am your father. (Not that I saw that movie. I just like saying that.)

I see the same ole shit is being pushed at dkos. Just keep electing those conservative Dems. That worked so well the last time. I mean – look – the war is over; Bush has been impeached; no more torture. Oh wait…that’s that parallel universe that I like to spend time in every now and then. Carry on…

32. supervixen - 11 June 2007

There’s an owl fight going on outside in the woods. I’ve never heard one before. Even the dog is unnerved – he’s barked a few times and my parrots are rustling around in their cages. Bad craziness!

#25, SB: I really did think that if the crimes ever reached this level, someone would stop them.

I used to think that too. It was after Katrina that I realized we’re all on our own. It’s a chaotic lawless free-for-all like we read about in all those post-apocalyptic novels, but so few people realize it because they still have all the amenities – for example, watching the news about Paris Hilton on their mammoth flatscreen TVs.

Nobody will stop the bad guys so we have to hunker down and try to keep civilization together until.. until…

Lucid – regarding the French person you mentioned – go for it!

33. NYCee - 11 June 2007

“Lucid, seriously – what’s not to love? Intelligent, conversant, witty and walks erect—you’re an endangered species my man, an endangered species….The walking erect thing, though, should be used with caution on the first date.[… ]

Another cautionary note: if you find yourself walking (or sitting or lying) erect for more than 4 hours, you may be suffering from Priapism. 🙂

All jokes about priapism aside, with no apologies (love that word!), I am reminded that I felt a bit tawdry/guilty about making an unthinking joke about the Bengay death (missdevore mentioned it here). Felt that way when I read about it in one of those free papers they hand you – “Metro” – as you get on the subway. I took the sober moment to consider that this was a human being who actually died from an over-the-counter cream. She was a young, high school track athlete, who literally od’ed by slathering on the ingredient in that cream (and in others) in order to excell at her sport. Fuck’s sake.

34. Sabrina Ballerina - 11 June 2007

Marisacat, regarding Durbin, you may be right – because there was precsious little support for him from his own party.

From Out of Water’s post above regarding the confession from the guy who tortured innocent people in Iraq:

He says that he realised he had entered a moral dungeon when he found himself reading a Holocaust memoir, hoping to pick up torture tips from the Nazis.

Airc, Durbin drew the faux anger of the right when he said something to the effect of ‘if I did not know what country these reports were about, I would think they were about a Nazi prison camp’.

Looks like there a very good reason for that. It would be nice if the media would cover this story and then show Durbin’s speech about torture (which was excellent) and then the campaign against him which obliterated his main points, as intended.

35. Revisionist - 11 June 2007

John Stewart brought up an important point tonite. Bush was hugging crowds in Albania but we cant get close enought to ask him questions.

If you have seen the footage, something is very odd about him walking into the crowds from a security stand point, not just the fact we get hearded into free speach zones and Bush never leaves his SUV. I really cant imagine the SS let him do it. The last time he was in Europe someone threw a grenade at him . I wont say it was all staged but something about his walk about just didnt seem right.

36. marisacat - 11 June 2007

And Durbin was reading FOIA’d FBI cables.

37. marisacat - 11 June 2007

Revisionist

It felt very staged. I saw several different films of it, both US and BBC.

People had Uncle Sam hats and flags and signs… there was a strong emphasis in the “man and woman on the street” comments that Bush “would do a lot for our country”…

LOL It had all ths spontaneity of an orange, green, violet etc., former soviet satellite now experiencing a “revolution”.

38. Revisionist - 11 June 2007

43. Madman in the Marketplace - 11 June 2007

I know what you mean about being scattered, catnip. I had a piece bouncing around in my head that took the latest court decisions about detainees, habeas and the anniversary today of “Loving v. Virginia”, and tied it all together (it worked in my head as I walked home from work), but as I looked at the publish windows … nuthin’. Gone … whoosh.

So I watched “Strange Days” on cable and surfed the net a little. (Angela Bassett just kicks serious ass in that movie).

Too scattered and heartbroken and cynically disgusted to write lately.

47. marisacat - 11 June 2007

Blogometer has a good snip from yglesias, who gets it a few times a year… it has come out before that Saban (Power Rangers) of the Saban chair at Brookings (Pollack warmed it) supports Hillary but also in 2001 – 2002 he was the single biggest contributer to the DNC. (Think I read at the time his support was around 8 million)

When Clintons and McAuliffe and their minions and dogs supported IRaq War (some of that time just a gleam in Bush’s eye, but en route, every minute, as it was en route in the 90s)…

LOL Iran War, as bi partisan as all the rest of them.

I am glad that when I saw statements like that, I did not accept them blindly, but did my own research …. Mudcat, btw, is a consultant who got the BBB all upset because he criticized ‘gasp’ bloggers. He supposedly is Edwards’ liaison for the Southern states. His little tirade was discussed on all of them today. Outside of the BBB, no one seemed to notice what he said. They really do live in a very insulated environment, linking mostly only to each other and posting about the same pundits.

And here’s how the research was done for the sockpuppet diary which ended up on the Rec list. Dk is accomplishing the impossible, they are making the MSM look like real investigative journalism

“Do you know any reporters?” — Jon Stewart to Matt Cooper, 4/23/07

That was his explanation for the info he posted in his diary re hrh and Miss D. He got it from a comment made by that investigative blogger, Luscious Vagina. And that was good enough for a Rec. diary on DK.

At least someone had the integrity and intelligence to ask for proof. MBNYC can usually be found in the I/P diaries going after anyone who sympathizes with the Palestinians.

His Sockpuppet diary was nothing more than an attempt to slap the label ‘anti-semite’ on as many people as possible. Throwing in Miss D and SV was simply to distract from the fact that all his ‘sock-puppets’ for some strange reason, were ‘anti-semitic’. It was obvious and not missed by the more observant commenters.

Joshua Frank defends electoral spoiling. Hilarity ensues.

54. ms_xeno - 11 June 2007

I fear that “anti-Semite” is one of those terms that has lost any real-life impact due to the distorted uses such folks have put it to, SB.

Which is too bad, because it’s real enough, but it’s not the get-out-of-analysis-free card these people make it out to be. Granted, I don’t know all that many Jews since moving to the NW. Not compared to NYC. But casual observance seems to demonstrate that Jews are, if anything, much less likely to hurl the word around everywhere in public as if we were in a plant store pointing to everything that needed regular watering. :p It strikes me as one more trivialization that I didn’t ask for, coming from people whose loyalty to my safety is, to say the least, extremely suspect. To say nothing of their capacity for critical thinking.

‘They have gone insane on their little island’ – too true! Lol!

Mudcat got their knickers in a twist – all the BBB and their affiliates. I wonder what Edwards will do about it? It was hilarious to watch. The Edwards supporters accusing the Obama supporters (Geekesque’s diary on Mudcat) of trying to smear Edwards by using Mudcat’s diatribe.

58. liberalcatnip - 11 June 2007

Too scattered and heartbroken and cynically disgusted to write lately.

I’m just a mess – physically and emotionally. Way too much stress. Vicious circle when dealing with pain.

I compose a lot to write, especially at bedtime. Some of the best things I’ve “written” were never actually written down. Too tired to get back up and write and then I just have fragments left the next day. I often have to meditate my way to sleep to shut my brain off.

I did have a glimmer of hope today (although hope is highly overrated) when I saw the news that Bushco took another legal blow in the case of indefinite detentions. Signs that the dictatorship is crumbling. But it could happen much more quickly if the Dems actually were a real opposition party that put the country first. So I know what you mean about the heartbreak, the cynicism and the disgust. It really is like living in an ongoing nightmare and it just doesn’t seem like Nov ’08 will suddenly bring an end to it, as much as some want to believe it will. There is too much entrenched corruption.

59. marisacat - 11 June 2007

I think it is hilarious anyone cares about Mudcat. Seems much of this is jealousy of who propelled the wretch Webb forward.

Ghastly thing ot want credit for…

60. Sabrina Ballerina - 11 June 2007

Ms xeno, you are so right about anti-semitism being very real. I know that for a fact. But as you say, these people who populate the internet, troll-rating and attacking anyone who is not fully on board with the current Israeli government’s policies, are doing such harm that I sometimes wonder if they are really anti-semites themselves. Aside from the fact that people now laugh at the charge, so trivialized has it become, they are supporting policies that could not be more dangerous for Israelis.

Not to mention that this strange alliance between Christian Fundies and Rightwing Jews, is suspect. When the US has no further need of Israel they will drop them as quickly as they dropped Saddam Hussein. Israel would be well advised to make peace with its neighbors if possible, because one day, maybe sooner than they think, the US will have no more use for them and they will be left alone to deal with those neighbors.

Well, if part of bigotry is treating the subject as childlike and unable to function without the dominant party’s idea of “protection,” then yeah, those folks are practicing a form of anti-Semitism. *********

Lol, Bhhm, and who cares about sockpuppets anyway? They make such a big deal out of such trivia, some of them spending their lives hunting twolls and sockpuppets online. I wonder if they realize what that looks like to sane people?

It’s all about control. They have to have ‘targets’ to go after, and rules, so that they can have rule-breakers, so that they can rouse up the masses against them. The really pathetic ones are those who keep spouting the rules, unaware that they are just being used …. ‘shitting on the rules’ – SV, I remember that. Hilarious, and sad at the same time.

Dk is a perfect example of an authoritarian society. It is a study in how easy it is to get some people to become abusers without much reward (unless anyone in their right mind considers being a fp there a reward). But it also separates those who have real strength and who refuse to be a part of it. It reminds me of that study where they tested people to see how far they would go when they feared not being accepted, to bully and even torture others. It was scary to see how far otherwise decent people were willing to go.

I could see some of them going along with anything, just to be part of a perceived ‘in crowd’. The good thing is though, it’s really just a relatively small group on dk who are the serial abusers, weak enough to go along with a system that is abhorrent to most decent people.

I thought it was very revealing how upset kos got about the media coverage of online abuse. He saw his little authoritarian system under attack, and he and his sychophants cannot imagine any way other than bullying to control the masses. And yet, it doesn’t work. He cannot control them which is why they are always whining about people like Marisacat and others who simply laugh at them.

Now we’re only one vote away from overturning Roe v. Wade.

With the help of the very Democrats you laud the shit out of as our duly-anointed saviors. They waved through the Right-wingers who Bush served up. They shilled for pro-lifers like Casey and for the wretched 95-10 bill, a “trojan donkey” concocted with the input of assholes like Rev. Wallis and the repulsive “Democrats For Life.” Now Hillary, Pelosi, Edwards and the rest are all scrambling over each other to crawl further up the religious right’s ass. So admirable.

But don’t let that stop your fantasies… {snip}

OOGA. FUCKING. BOOGA. INDEED. My Support in money and time for the Democrats is now “off the table” after 30 years of doing so. Fuck the Rhetorical gymnastics, the spin, the apologetics. Lol, Catnip, they were BETRAYED by a Yrly Kos ‘star’! Maybe he saw the phoniness of it all! It’s pretty obvious. But like you, I haven’t a clue who he is nor do I care. It’s just amusing to see how disturbed they all are as if we had gone to war with Iran or something. I think the worst writer on the internet, (MissL) was coerced into doing a fp diary on dk about him. It’s just too funny really.

Revisionist, I think we use Israel to help protect our oil interests in the ME. If there was no oil there, I doubt we would ever have had much interest in them. Most likely there would have been two states a long time ago, with the US enforcing it. But if our addiction to oil ends with new alternative energy, Israel will be on its own. We haven’t shown much loyalty to former allies in the past once our use for them is over.

Ms xeno, I was being a bit facetious, but their strategy is alienating people so in that sense they are doing more harm than good for Israel. Anyone who truly cares about the survival of Israel wants peace. I don’t think that’s impossible, but not as long as the neocons are in power here.

SB:

Anyone who truly cares about the survival of Israel wants peace.

Well, everyone and their dog says they want it. We all know about the problems in working out the details, however. I can’t imagine the Jewish State surviving in its current form if the U.S. does not, and I continue to be pessimistic about the U.S. surviving in its current form. I think Balkanization will be the order of the day, eventually. Which won’t bode well for the average Israeli even/especially if some Fundie theocracy gets the lion’s share of Ye Olde Empire’s weapons and so on. Without any cosmetic niceties to restrain them, I’m guessing the cross-bearing oligarchs will take a more direct hand in ruling the Holy Land, or fighting to rule it against anyone who looks at them sideways.

79. Sabrina Ballerina - 12 June 2007

Oh that is funny. Joe Trippi to the rescue! Well, he just came in time, I was about to post what was reported today about Mudcat. I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about, but now I see clearly.

Anyway, it seems, according to Geekesque’s diary Mudcat was quite a redneck type individual, but the Dems were in love with such individuals, DK, Mydd et al, airc. It seems that Mudcat has a Confederate flag bedspread, which he apparently boasted about. That probably endeared him to the BBB, a real, live ‘redneck’ – on their side! And they are so pragmatic!

And that’s not all that endeared him to the netroots it seems, apparently he is not fond of those single issues people, like ‘queers’ as he calls gay people. Charming guy, if Geekesque is to be believed. But it was all seen as a great Southern strategy. Now they are all upset with a guy they should have been upset with from the beginning.

They were willing to accept his little ‘quirks’ because ‘we are a big tent’ and he could help get Webb elected. Plus, he was at Yrly Kos! But now he’s attacking them as ‘elitist, Metropolitan Opera liberals’! And they are stunned!

They bent over backwards to make the right love them! Lol! And still, they are a bunch of whiny Liberals to him. They will just never get it! It’s embarrassing the way they grovel for the approval of the right, and they never, ever get it!

Proud to be a Metropolitan Opera Liberal! Lol! Marisacat, thanks for the opera glasses and the popcorn! Better to watch this from afar ….

80. D. Throat - 12 June 2007

Just 27% of Americans now approve of the way Congress is doing its job, the poll found, down from 36% in January, when Democrats assumed control of the House and the Senate.
And 63% of Americans say that the new Democratic Congress is governing in a “business as usual” manner, rather than working to bring the fundamental change that party leaders promised after November’s midterm election.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), the first woman to hold that position, has also failed to impress many Americans. Only 36% approve of the way she is handling the job, the poll found.

In contrast, 46% of Americans in the current poll said they approved of the way Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia handled the job after he led the GOP into the majority in 1994.

The poll also found continued public unhappiness with President Bush, whose approval ratings have been stuck below 40% since last year.

More stinky polls… gee I wonder how this latest capitualation will bring… notice how the BBB’s refuse to breakdown the vote… well here it is:
Not Voting – 7
Biden (D-DE)
Brownback (R-KS)
Coburn (R-OK)
Dodd (D-CT)
Johnson (D-SD)
McCain (R-AZ)
Obama (D-IL)

In fact they can’t even blame the GOP since there where more who crossed over (6) than Dems who couldn’t be bothered to even show up.

I feel another post coming on, from Bowers or Stoller on Mudcat, musing about why we sometimes need these ‘characters’ in order to ‘win’! Especially in ‘red states’! They’ll get the memo. It was great strategy for Edwards to hire Mudcat. Webb used him too after all. And Mudcat will probably clarify what he meant about bloggers. He’ll list the ones he referred as the ‘good bloggers’. I think Kos will be on the list and the rest of the boyz. We’ll see.

89. D. Throat - 12 June 2007

Yet Huff Post has this ridiculous headline:

GOP Blocks Senate Majority From
Voting No Confidence On Gonzales

which of course leads to the obvious question… Why could the dems “block” the majority party when they were in the minority.

Also, why on earth would the GOP in the future put their heads on the block siding with the DEMS when the Dem leadership is so weak and pathetic… how much you wanna bet that they will not vote with their party from now on. Why waste party cred on Reid’s pathetic leadership. Do you think DeLay would have lost…???

This is why I always believe that Powell never recanted… who was going to protect and support him… the Dems with Liebrman and Hiliary… that would have kicked him back into the shark tank.

About the south.

This is all part and parcel of the DLC’s very own “Southern Strategy”. It is the Democrats who are stirring up the librul boogeyman in the south and are the main ones who reinforce the stereotypes.

That other idiot on the YDK southern panel is that fool from Gadfly. He is the worse… check him out on Colbert. Even Colbert was aghast… I forget his name … he wrote (yet another opportunists) on the Dem southern strategy in which he preached that the Dems should just bypass the south.

If you look at the BIG PICTURE .. not the tent…all of these so called “progressive Dem” are really pushing for SUCCESSION of the south. They are adamant that no progressive politicians be elected and insist on electing right wing red neck Dems. Remember that ridiculous Okla congressional candidate that Kos was pushing who was more wacky than Coburn.

The message is clear… HANDS OFF THE SOUTH… LEAVE YOUR STINKING LIBRUL POLICIES IN THE NORTH AND WEST COAST…. mind you this is coming from the Democratic establishment NOT the GOP.

This is what they were so afraid of Dean… he was REALLY liked in Mississippi…. it was the Dem establishment and the DLC that made the big fuss about pick up trucks and flags. The founding of the DLC was first and foremost to take back the Democratic Party for the white men. It has taken 30 years…but with this new crop of “progressive” sellouts… their jobs is almost complete.

* NE-Sen: A Kerrey/Bruning ticket in Nebraska’s Senate race? Could happen. I see Kerrey, and I think, “Oh no, another Lieberman.” (They’re big buds, btw.) But others say that outside of Iraq (where he’s delusional), he’s a good Democrat.

Remember, the issue isn’t whether Kerrey is to the right of the party. We’re talking Nebraska here. Of course he’d have to be to the right of the Democratic Party. The issue is whether he’d become the go-to guy when the media needs a Democrat to criticize other Democrats and the Democratic Party. Ben Nelson, as right-wing as he might be, has never taken that role, and for that he earns my respect. His votes may be infuriating, but he’s representing his overwhelmingly conservative state and doing so without rubbing his party’s nose in it.

So the question is whether Kerrey would be a Nelson-style Democrat, or a Lieberman-style “Democrat”. That’s a question we’ll have to explore in greater detail of Kerrey does, indeed, enter the race.

Frankly I like Jardine, the consultatn operative Mudcat works with. They both worked on the Warner gubernatorial run. Jardine tells a great version of Warner at Nascar. Does nto interest him, he does not like it… but the plan is go there shake hands, figure them out. More jardine than Warner, who met with “SF liberals” and literally ran screaming. LOL.

Would love to know what got dropped him that that he dropped out. SOme scandal.

I never figured out if Mudcat is just putting everyone on with his schtick (I mean, it is thick) or what. A lot of what he says pisses me off. But LOL…

Meanwhile, ‘Metropolitan Opera Wing’ Democrats like myself were working their asses off to help out candidates like Ned Lamont and now-Rep. Patrick Murphy (PA-08).

…and how did that work out. One lost due to the toxicity of the blogoshpere… and the other’s first call of duty was to meet with Bush to get orders.

94. marisacat - 12 June 2007

oh I can’t stand Schaller. LOL when he guest posted at Dkos (2003/4), he did a FP piece in torture. All the old tropes. he knew NOTHING. AND he had not even read the Hersh AG expose in the New Yorker, which ws about 2 weeks out on the stands at that point.

Idiot. He knows nothing of the south, imo.

LOL Jimmy admitted taht evenings when Meet Up met in So rural GA were quiet. People were at Dean meet ups.

The trick is not to meet people on a debased standing. Pull them up.

And if you think that we’re the sissies of the Metropolitan Opera (which is clearly the implication), I suggest you pay a visit to New York City or Philadelphia or Boston and tell us that to our faces. Then we’ll show you who’s the sissy around these parts.

… harumphf…. so there… he should make sure he brings Luscious Vagina with him… so many capons strutting the threads of DK

Schaller that is it…

The GOP must have been cheering or this jackass that night… even Colbert was disturbed.

Jerome A. Conman brought Mr Mud to last years YDK to the consternation of those in the Reality driven world that recognized that you can’t have a forum on the south without the two main groups that make up southern Democrats: Blacks and women. D. Throat

Well, the more I learn about this Mudcat, the more I can see why Trippi says ‘I tried, but Mudcat is, well Mudcat’. According to BTD at TL he’s a defender of both Joe Klein and Scooter Libby:

Dave “Mudcat” Saunders is a Democratic political operative who hates “elites.” That’s why, in his first post at Time’s Swampland, he defended Joe Klein’s plea for no jail time for Scooter Libby.

This comment captures the mood:

Shorter Mudcat:

“Metropolitan Opera Wing” Democrats are losing the rural vote because they are being too hard on Joe Klein for carrying water for rural hero, Scooter Libby.

Between his Conferderat Flag bedspread and his barely concealed homophobia, his hero worship of Scooter Libby, all I can say is that Jerome Armstrong is still using the Internet to deceive people. And anyone who thinks Kos is not part of this scheme is a fool. And now Mudcat is biting the greedy little hands that fed him. We’ll have to watch and see if he can be brought back into the fold!

Poor fools who spend their money to go to Chicago. Thinking they are going to ‘change the party from the inside’! Except not the way they think.

Bhhm, no wonder you can’t sleep …. what a mess it all is. As for ‘children’ well, they’re not, chronologically anyway. Most of them are adults. Emotionally though, I agree with you …

Can’t believe that kos post either … doesn’t matter if someone is ‘right’ – who does he think he’s kidding, kos wants rightwingers in the party. Bhhm, you’re so right, same old game as before! They are going to fill the party with more Steny Hoyers, Webbs and Zell Millers … we need a new party!

Way way back… as soon as the DLCers (DHinMI, DemFromCT and the rest of them) were set in concrete there, they started the threads asking all sorts of questions… one always was to describe the Democratic party or to describe a Democrat.

Lordy, I’d read those things and laugh. Full of platitudes and wispy dreams.

They just cannot face it that Mudcat, Lieberman and so on are the party. A very big, very real part of it. So the Boyz keep faking it to sell the conservative Dems to the thread dwellers and tell them it is all that can be. And donate. And pretend shock, shocked I Tell you! when Patrick Murphy is a fucking Blooooooo Dog.
