Really sorry to hear about your cat. 20 years old! Sounds like he really had a full life.
My wife had two cats when we started our relationship in 2002. Archy was very friendly to practically all people, but Libby hid from nearly everyone. The only two people in the world that she really liked were my wife and me. My wife says that Libby knew we were getting married before we were. Last year, Libby’s liver started to give out, and in July we had to put her to sleep at the age of 16. I loved her. She was my kitty.
Gotta go. Archy and Dixie (our new cat) are demanding my attention, and I need at least one hand to type.

My neighbor across the hall is a classic cat lover/rescuer (takes the total ‘street’ ones that can live in your apt for years without allowing human touch, she somehow gets them into carrier to a vet – despite the clawings and mayhem – when needed, etc and so on) She blurted out how unfair and off kilter it is that her horrid exboyfriends get to live so much longer than her cats.
sv – sorry to hear that. Had an older cat (not 20, though) wind down from old age. I didnt have him put to sleep, because he seemed to naturally fade out although it was a rather long process of greying, thinning, finicky eating. He didnt have an identified serious diseasae and didnt seem to be in pain. There was an episode on “winding down” into death on Northern Exposure that was great – a real keeper from that series.

That’s why I tend to be pretty careful about my language on the internet. One can’t see the ironic gesture someone might be making while using a slur & one never knows who will be offended by what and why. As for getting nasty emails and bad publicity, I did get some on the rightwing board I started out on, long after I left. Went back to check on them once, and they were making lists of their favorited ‘lefties’. Is it satelite or cable? Digital cable IS NOT WORTH the money. Its just more expensive cable
They offer a deal on the DSL but you have to renew it every year. I have the high end and its supposed to be $24 a month. I forgot to renew and have been paying 41 for the past few months. Its supposed to change but they say it will take 2-3 months for it to kick in. The bills are hard to read because they charge you full price for everythingt hen give you a discount.
The drawback is you are late they turn off the TV then internet a few days later but will leave the phone on,. Like today I couldnt get email because my “account has been suspended”. The bill was due last friday.
They are also a bitch to deal with. You’ll have to deal with 5 different people everytime. One section (phone/net/tv) has no idea what the other is doing. For instance if they issue a disconnect for something to be turned off but you pay the bill the disconnect often goes thru if you dont call and follow up you cant lose service anyway. I;m always late and lose the TV every couple od months. I dont watch it everday so i dont notice for days.
I have the sat TV. silver package I believe. its like 40 bucks. sound and picture great. good selection of channels. DVR is cheaper than other systems.
My DSL is excellent. Its fast and Im always connected. I just dont use any of the Yahoo crap except a legacy email i’ve had for 10 years.
He shoulda read the IED, esp as a co-sponsor. It all just falls apart.

Well thsi is AT&T/SBC my phone lines are thru them. Right now the package is for DSL and digital for up to 3 tvs, the DVR box is free (well, you know, you pay for it in the package).
The service is brand new – the first installations for AT&T people ws in December, in just a few cities in the US, tho 6 or 7 of them are here in the Bay Area. Later the phone will be part of the package.
Comcast got too expensive for regular cable and AOL got progressively worse over the past two years. Time to move on.

Mcat – I would say digital cable is worth it for a couple of reasons – 1. you get Sundance and IFC [both excellent channels]. 2. if you get a premium like HBO, you get 7 flavors of it, not just one. 3. There a a host of other misc. channels you get which, if you’re vegging out, are sometimes entertaining.
Revisionist – I actually support that as well, I was just joking about the apparent ‘conflict of interest’ there. The fed is directly responsible for the insane inflation that this county has had, which no one ever seems to notice because the cost of gizmo’s goes down. Meanwhile staples like food, energy costs and housing are through he roof. I read some really long article once detailing the problems caused by a Fed system from the standpoint of various principles of physics – it was fascinating. Basically it come down to the fact that a private fed system is stealing money from everyone.
This has 30 channels of Showtime and 18 channels of HBO and Cinemax. That is the top of the line package. I intend to get the level, at least, that includes IFC, C-Span 3, and CNN Internati/ onal – and at that level it includes Showtime The Movie Channel..
I did have digital cable for a few years but think I went back to plain cable in 02.
This package is little more than I pay now for Comcast cable and AOL.

AOL — gasp. My DSL is SBC legacy. I was an intial subscriber and its just gone from bell to sbc to yahoo to att. only thing that changed was the modem has been updated a couple of times. i need a new one but they want to charge me $70! i can just get one on new egg.
My mom got sucked into to verizon offering the same services. wasnt right for her. i told her to let me handle it but she still thinks im 12. they dug up her yard and ran all kinds of cables (not very pretty) and she had a routers and crap in the garage. she has never been at a computer so i cant assess the inetrnet service but everything else appeared no different than normal phone and TV.
They are pushing me to get all that. HARD. thats a red flag for me. unless you have an HD TV the TV part isnt really worth it. I wouldnt get anything else I am not getting thru the dish service.and i really dont need anymore internet speed.
I am supposed to get all these “savings” with the bundle but in reality its only about $4 a month. and like I say you have to call when the inro price is up and renogiate or they just up it to the highest tier.
Well when I needed to move something and unscrewed the cable line from the TV in the bedroom (which I had thought was dying of old age) THE PICTURE IMPROVED.
That sort of clinched it… time to depart Comcast cable.

lol… digital cable isnt really digitial. satellite service is far superior. Maybe its because I;m a guy and have all the electronic toys but I can tell the difference in picture quality but most importanly sound. I have had both DISH and Direct. only real differnce I noticed was the UI for the box. digicable looks and sounds like normal cable. only diffence is the updated box that allows for ppv.
My mom ended up going back to comcast and has basic cable now. all she watches are soaps and Lifetime.
Well I pay 60 for cable and 24.00 for AOL… and this new promotion thru yes bell, morphing to ATT and then SBC now ATT/SBC is packages for 74, 94 or the top for 119.00. Even the 74 dollar package would be much more than I have now, on all fronts. For less cash outlay.
I am on Dial up now, so DSL will be faster no matter what.

But we need to face the facts about the consequences of our country’s steady march backwards so that we understand how important this issue of fact-based education and access to contraception is. It is NOT something that should be the subject of political compromise.

Best wishes to the aging kitties too. Joey is 15 but I’m lucky that she hasn’t had any health problems. She’s hanging in there. As for my 6 year old, he’s not adjusting well to the move so it looks like I’ll probably have to give him up. Poor thing. He likes to prowl the hood but he can’t here because there’s a mean male cat across the alley, so I have to take him out supervised in the yard. He hates it and he’s taken to howling quite often – wanting to escape. I initially raised him in the country so old habits die hard.

Love Affairs Have Never Ended So Badly.
When my ex and I divorced, I felt profound sorrow and loss. It was a mutual choice, a recognition of things both present and absent in ourselves and our relationship that we came to feel apart. There was no one else, no infidelity that came between us. We have a beautiful daughter who was little when we divorced. We agreed to share custody of her and work around both of our extended families so she would have the opportunity to know quite the cast of characters, indeed. Any sadness we felt at having a “failed” marriage has been replaced tenfold with raising a great kid who has turned into an assertive, articulate young woman. I can say “we” given that my ex has expressed the same feeling, eventually married a decent guy and, going on ten+ years, they seem as happy as happy can be.
People are free to do what they want, sleep with whom they wish, of course. After all, it is truly a personal matter. Regardless of how I am, I figure however two (or more) people decide to structure their lives together that doesn’t involve deception, hurt or neglect of someone else, have at. “Cheating”, though in committed relationships is another matter as someone is hurt because someone is either disinformed or uninformed and thus less empowered in terms of decisions they might otherwise make for themselves. That said, I used to have as little patience, really, with friends or coworkers who bemoaned a cheating spouse or partner as I had disdain for the deceiver. I never really knew betrayal in such a personal “where you live” way. Money. Career. Sure, I’ve had my share of being stabbed in the back: All surface wounds though, barely piercing the synthetic could give a fuck shields one wears for survival at times in the workplace. But a real gutting of betrayal? A feeling that life -as- one- knows- it- is- over ? No, not on a personal level. Not until these last few years for me.

I’ll tell you. In a tenuous affair, uncommtted individuals can easily move on because it is soley a matter of personal preference or desire, no harm no foul, no one get’s hurt yada yada who wants to be a mechanical fuck, yada. No “other” anything or anyone to consider…
Political Party Affiliation by nature I think, is much more like a committed relationship. Or at least it should be. One Entered into with eyes wide open. I don’t believe in” toothpaste” issues. As long as ‘we’ are in a relationship, they are “our” issues, They are important for what they are and for “who” and “what” they represent. It comes down to mutual respect for each other. Much can be negotiated, but hardly anything can be ignored –especially in politics. Mutual Respect as a starting point certainly can not. Bullshitting someone (partisans/constituents) you say you care for is terrible and a relationship killer. Fucking up arrangements to care for a “mate” and those in your extended family (society as a whole) is intolerable. Ignoring the fallout from the consequences in favor of keeping the Party going at all costs is nothing short of dereliction in my view. If you want to fuck around with facists then get the fuck out. Of course they won’t. It’s definitely a bad breakup. We’re going to have to force them out of the House, stop paying for Uncle Harry from Nevada’s club membership, and stop subsidizing their trysts at the swingers “crash pad” on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I’ve never had a Love affair that has ended so badly.

I can say “we” given that my ex has expressed the same feeling, eventually married a decent guy and, going on ten+ years, they seem as happy as happy can be.
People are free to do what they want, sleep with whom they wish, of course. After all, it is truly a personal matter. Regardless of how I am, I figure however two (or more) people decide to structure their lives together that doesn’t involve deception, hurt or neglect of someone else, have at. “Cheating”, though in committed relationships is another matter as someone is hurt because they are either disinformed or uninformed and thus less empowered in terms of decisions they might otherwise make for themselves. That said, I used to have as little patience, really, with friends or coworkers who bemoaned a cheating spouse or partner as I had disdain for the deceiver. I never really knew betrayal in such a personal “where you live” way. Money. Career. Sure, I’ve had my share of being stabbed in the back: All surface wounds though, barely piercing the synthetic could give a fuck shields one wears for survival at times in the workplace. But a real gutting of betrayal? A feeling that life -as- one- knows- it- is- over ? No, not on a personal level. Not until these last few years for me.
What the Fuck Does This Have to Do with Politics?

Political Party Affiliation by nature I think, is much more like a committed relationship. Or at least it should be. One Entered into with eyes wide open. I don’t believe in” toothpaste” issues. As long as ‘we’ are in a relationship, they are “our” issues, They are important for what they are and for “who” and “what” they represent. It comes down to mutual respect for each other. Much can be negotiated, but hardly anything can be ignored –especially in politics. Mutual Respect as a starting point certainly can not. Bullshitting someone (partisans/constituents) you say you care for is terrible and a relationship killer. Fucking up arrangements to care for a “mate” and those in your extended family (society as a whole) is intolerable. Ignoring the fallout from the consequences in favor of keeping the Party going at all costs is nothing short of dereliction in my view. If you want to fuck around with facists then get the fuck out. Of course they won’t. It’s definitely a bad breakup. We’re going to have to force them out of the House, stop paying for Uncle Harry from Nevada’s club membership, and stop subsidizing their trysts at the swingers “crash pad” on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I’ve never had a Love affair that has ended so badly.
