Angry Arab

Obama on Israel: “Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country — a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and hateful ideologies of radical Islam.” (thanks Ali)

The clusterfuck of denial

You’re a bitch.
You’re a nigger.

I’ll show you that I’m not a bitch, because I cry so hard when I think about my 35 [tm] years of service handcuffing any policy that might actually make a difference in people’s lives.

I’m not a nigger, because I’m post-racial, which means that the whole history of race relations can be summed up in a rousing speech and forgotten because I said some nice things that appealed to alienated white folk.

Should I post this as a diary at Dkos… just that… I can only imagine the spew…

I can relate to that. My life is a long series of naps interrupted by dentist appointments and cable news shows. 😉

There’s no point in teasing them anyway. They just wouldn’t get it. They’re modern-day tomato throwers. And, with that reference, odd tomato throwing repercussions in Ohio. (They take that shit seriously there!)

They would hang you in a tree for several days, making sure that there was a licensed physician on site to keep you alive and in pain. Then they’d cut you down and chop your body into several hundred pieces. After that, Pastor Dan would say a prayer for your immortal soul and Meteor Blades would take photos to prove 20 years from now that he was there. Then they’d ban you from the Daily Kos permanently.

Oh – I just found this useless bit of trivia: “A poke is an old English word for mud wallow”.

So when MB talked about polishing mud wallows, was he really referring to us polishing “pokes”? Logically, from that then, I think it’s safe to say he’s a perv.

Speaking of toast.

25. liberalcatnip - 18 March 2008

Hilarious:

This is the wierdest thing.

Yesterday morning my wife asked me if I wanted toast for breakfast.

I said “sure.”

Now I wish that I had never said that. Because what appeared on my

slice of toast was the strangest image that has the uncanny likeness

of Barack Obama. What could this possibly mean? Its not my imagination either,

just LOOK at the photograph! ITS OBAMA. I checked my toaster.

Its Just a regular old toaster that has never produced anything like this before!

But it doesn’t end there.

I e-mailed a picture of the wierd toast to a friend of mine,

asking him for his opinion. He forwarded it to some Hillary Clinton

campaign person and by 4pm I heard a knock at my door.

“We’ll give you $20 bucks for the Obama Toast.”

Two men stood in my doorway, both neatly dressed, the older of the two

seemed to be the spokesperson. He reached into his pocket and

produced a roll of cash. Peeling of a crisp $20, he handed it to me.

I almost took it, but then something didn’t make sense.

“Who are you and why do you want my toast?” I queried.

“Let’s just say that we’re with the Clinton campaign and this toast

with the Obama apparition on it is something that is a little inconvenient right now.”

“I see.” I said as I slowly closed and locked the screen door. “I think I can

get a better offer on Ebay.”

The men made one more offer of $25, but left unhappily when

I suggested they check out my Ebay auction page.

So there you have it. If the Clinton campaign wants this toast,

they’ll have to bid on it like everyone else. I’m starting it out

at $1, just to make them mad.

Winning bidder will pay $4 for shipping and

I promise, VERY careful handling.

Lenin’s Tomb takes a closer look at the global crise in the monetary, investment and credit games.

And it is not pretty.

Coda: One of the major global banks to have suffered least so far from this collapse has been HSBC, one of Britain’s ‘big five’. It did have substantial exposure in the ‘subprime’ market. It did experience considerable losses.

Yet, its profits increased quite substantially on last year: know why? Because they had shifted a huge amount of their investment from the United States to Asia, particularly China. After recent losses, they seem to have cut investments in the US drastically.

Although those economies are hardly insulated from any crash in the US, consumer spending has been rising for years in China, and the country is about to open up its financial sector even further. Further, it looks set to invest more overseas. So far Chinese growth has been a huge boost to US capitalism, but it seems clear that any major crisis in the US will redound to the benefit of China in particular.

what China doesn’t have, and can’t possibly compete in, is an empire. To be sure, it does occupy Tibet – as we see, in a quite repressive fashion – and Taiwan would like its independence. Yet, compared to America’s awesome global dominion, this is a handful of beans. Parenthetically, one has always hoped for a more radical Tibetan liberation movement to emerge, something with enough blood in it to put Richard Gere off his soy beans.

Yet, one can’t help but marvel at the hypocrisy of liberal critics such as Steven Spielberg and Mia Farrow banging on about the fucking ‘genocide Olympics’, as if they didn’t live in a country that was not merely investing in another country whose elite is waging a vicious counterinsurgency war but actually prosecuting a far more vicious one in several countries that they don’t even own yet.

The main point I would make, however, is that while policymakers will attempt various means including protectionist ones to defend the economy, this whole situation is likely to make the US ruling class far more reliant on its military power.

The grab for Iraq was a crucial part of the intense competition with China, and winning that competition – frustrating the rise of a major geopolitical rival, as the PNACers insist – is probably going to involve more assertiveness in South Asia.

They’ll need to control Pakistan as well as Afghanistan. They’ll want their military bases back in Uzbekistan. They’ll want to control as much of the oil and gas reserves near the Caspian sea as they can keep out of Russia’s hands. And they’ll have to do something about Latin America, where growing moves toward independence are undermining US capitalist interests and letting China in on the action. A crisis doesn’t just mean economic turmoil; it means a more deadly and fraught world system.

Meanwhile the anti-China-but-silent-on-Iraq-and- weeping-to-enhance-the-diversionary-use-of-horror-in-Darfur/Congo/Niger Delta/Horn of Africa/ will square their shoulders, wear their rubber solidarity with Bono bracelets, double check they have Holbrook on their fav five and soldier on.

i’m reading some of the state/local opinion/pushback on the wright controversy. heres one of the afrospear/Jena 6 bloggers, shawn williams, writing from dallas. i came to his blog via the dallas morning news. they’ve published a similar version to what I’m posting, which went up on his blog on monday.

The Media Lynching of Rev. Jeremiah Wright (Part 1 of 3):
How a 36 year career of evangelism and activism is reduced to a 30 second sound bite

What is most shameful about this entire episode with Dr. Wright and Barack Obama is that it shows how little America knows about and how much less America cares about the black church. A black preacher uttering words from the pulpit regarding America’s racist past and present is neither novel or unique.

Now the same media structure that constantly undermined Dr. Martin Luther King, and the same government that tapped every phone that he used, wants to prop him up as an example of “color-blind” preaching. The Dr. King who in his day was considered too radical and color concerned by his own contemporaries is now painted as a kumbaya fella who white folks would like to sit down and have a latte with. Save it America.

part two went up this morning.

The Media Lynching of Jeremiah Wright (Part 2 of 3): Crazy Talk

Do I think HIV was an experiment created to destroy black folks? I don’t.

Do I see how one might think such a thing? I do.

How can one fathom the U.S. Government conspiring against a race people, it’s own citizens no doubt? I believe these words can at least paint the picture.

For forty years between 1932 and 1972, the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) conducted an experiment on 399 black men in the late stages of syphilis. These men, for the most part illiterate sharecroppers from one of the poorest counties in Alabama, were never told what disease they were suffering from or of its seriousness. Informed that they were being treated for “bad blood,” their doctors had no intention of curing them of syphilis at all.

The prevalent thought in America is that racism is a bad thing that happened very long ago. But the reality is that racism is a horrible thing that continues to exist today. It is woven into the very fibers of our country’s institution and in its purest form continues unnoticed.

here’s a link to the belo dallas morning news op-ed by shawn. it went up on their website yesterday afternoon and hit the print edition this morning. it’s interesting in that it isn’t a verbatim copy. i’m not sure if we’re seeing the influence of the paper’s editors at work (DMN is very conservative), or if shawn rewrote and polished.

While everyone rakes over the nuances of American racism 24/7, indigenous people around the world are simply being quietly murdered if they are in the way of the corporate machinery, whether soy expansion in Brazil or Chinese interests’ plans to flood tribal areas of Burma for hydroelectricity to export out of the country.

To observe the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (on March 21) Survival International has given an award to what it calls “the most racist article of the year.”

Originally published in Paraguay’s La Nación, the article Indians in Uruguay Square is available in original Spanish and English translation at SI’s website.

A Neolithic, Indian camp right in the city centre is unthinkable, but there it is, like a dangerous cancer, spreading bad smells, destruction and contamination. (Una toldería indígena neolítica en el centro de la ciudad es inconcebible y, sin embargo, allí está, como un cáncer expuesto, esparciendo malos olores, destrucción y contaminación ambiental.

If things carry on like this, if this leftist climate that makes people stupid continues, then soon one of the Indian leaders will declare himself a direct descendant of Arambaré and, with NGO money, move into the Lopez Palace and turn it into a pig-sty.

The Indians need to become civilized, to become Paraguayans, to forget this stupid idea of trying to preserve their backward, withered culture . . .
~~~
I haven’t met a single Paraguayan who wants to live in an Indian village, even though there are some very nearby, nor study their filthy habits. But I do know Indians who want to live in Asuncion in order to be educated, to escape the jungle mentality, and to turn themselves into human beings . . . .
Norman Solomon / FAIR on the no coverage to a high point of a little coverage of the Winter Soldier hearings…
in a pattern reminiscent of the near complete corporate media blackout on the first Winter Soldier hearings. FAIR founder Jeff Cohen (Huffington Post, 3/16/08) traces the beginning of his career as a media critic back to his experience of watching as “one of the rare mainstream camera crews showed up at Winter Soldier… and then abruptly packed up to leave in the middle of particularly gripping testimony.”
While the testimony of soldiers who had served multiple tours of duty was broadcast on Pacifica Radio’s Democracy Now!, Free Speech TV, and the Real News network, the major broadcast networks and PBS instead devoted airtime to the pro-war assessments of Vice President Dick Cheney and Sen. John McCain, both of whom have only made brief visits to Iraq (NBC Nightly News, ABC World News, CBS Evening News, PBS NewsHour, all 3/17/08). ::snipsnap::
Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’
This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war:
CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success.
RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.
CHENEY: So?
RADDATZ So? You don’t care what the American people think?
CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.
The DJIA lost 293 points today, meaning that 70% of yesterday’s gains were wiped out, for no apparent reason other than investors are unwilling to believe such a rebound was indicative of the economy’s soundness.
Sooner or later, BushCo.’s Free Money!!!!™ shenanigans will reach the point of diminished returns. When they do, all the Fed rate cuts and floods of money into the system won’t produce anything more than trivial stock market gains, indeed, may produce days like today because people won’t be able to ignore that such desperate measures indicate the whole rotten system is about to collapse.
ABC is really going after Obama – Buried in Eloquence, Obama Contradictions About Pastor
Buried in his eloquent, highly praised speech on America’s racial divide, Sen. Barack Obama contradicted more than a year of denials and spin from him and his staff about his knowledge of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s controversial sermons. …
His initial reaction to the initial ABC News broadcast of Rev. Wright’s sermons denouncing the U.S. was that he had never heard his pastor of 20 years make any comments that were anti-U.S. until the tape was played on air.
But yesterday, he told a different story.
“Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes,” he said in his speech yesterday in Philadelphia.
Obama did not say what he heard that he considered “controversial,” and the campaign has yet to answer repeated requests for dates on which the senator attended Rev. Wright’s sermons over the last 20 years.
50. marisacat - 19 March 2008
well it was a glaring shift, several resources have pointed it out from ABC to Lynn Sweet at Sun Times in Chicago. Tho ABC has run this story hard since the 12th or whenver film of Wright broke thru.
Jon Meacham as well last night on CRose (tho he loved it all… )
The presumed reality is that there are lots of tapes (and media is indicating they have more, as more Wright outfits are showing up in snips with no accompanying soundbites) and Obama knows he too likely is on tape. Media is also showing more scans of TUCC audience clips.
Pleanty of news sources tho have pandered to and kept up (as late as yesterday) that all these instances “are years ago”. Eugene Robinson for one.
Geesh, Dec 2007 and Jan 2008 is not years ago.
caveat, I have no problemw ith what Wright said. But it is foolsih to say Obama handled this well. The campaign did not.
Lynn Sweet committed the extreme sin of calling it a political speech.
54. liberalcatnip - 19 March 2008
My feeling is that, no matter how good/great/brilliant/stunning people may have found Obama’s speech to be, it’ll end up being a wash for him politically. Either that or his numbers will drop slightly. I haven’t seen any polls taken since the speech so I guess we’ll have to wait. I think the bottom line is that, in general, people (real people, not the pundits/bloggers/journalists) don’t really want to talk about race – certainly not the extent that it needs to be talked about.
55. Hair Club for Men - 19 March 2008
The idea that Pat Buchanan is allowed to be an arbiter on what’s racist and what’s not on a major cable TV network is too surreal to comment on.
57. melvin - 19 March 2008
53 I keep seeing this criticism of the speech that it is a total failure because it wasn’t simple(minded) enough. That it should have consisted of three or four well crafted sound bites. And that is from – I think – his fans, it is actually meant as constructive criticism.
Be stupider. Lower the bar. Talk about appealing to the worst.
61. liberalcatnip - 19 March 2008
62. marisacat - 19 March 2008
I was not criticising the speech… basically he did what he had to do… called it a speech on race, which it had to be to try to get past the full blown reality of Wright – as exploited during a high stakes presidential run..
Overall, so much better to not duck this for a year. Get it out. As rfecently as the NYer profile on Michelle, the writer asked a simple question of Wright while at a church service with Michelle (I posted this at the time) and a minder ran over, No Questions in Church, of anyone. Michelle added they did nto want their church “hurt” in this.
God help them.
What I saw was a political speech with some truths worked into it. One that walked a tough line between holding segements of the black vote and try to keep segments of the whtie vote.
Delivered to a very friendly audience.
I have no problem with that, but I also saw last week that Obama would much have preferred to leave it at Huffpo, three cable interviews and that YouTube. And friendly editorials and pundits and opinion writers.
not enough.
How can they nto have seen what the Wright tapes would do? At least be ready.
Summer of 2003 when a Kerry supporter totally lost it in threads at Dkos when someone [honestly I think] asked what WAS the old story about the medals toss… I thought, Oh we have a problem. I knew the problems went way back, so I quietly googled on my own, no diaries no posts way before SBVfT and yes indeedy, iirc, there were, over the years, three stories, at least on the damned medals toss. All of them from him.
Plus his own medals hang on the wall of his senate office today. And did in 2003.
It was going to be a big big mess.
Rumor may explain why commodities tanked today.
” What sparked concern was a rumor that the futures exchanges or regulators – or maybe both – were considering raising margin requirements for “non commercial” commodities traders – especially non-com energy traders. Non-commercial traders speculate on the price of commodities but do not ever take delivery of the commodities. Amaranth was a non-commercial trader, while Exxon-Mobil is a commercial trader.”
Amaranth was a hedge fund that collapsed, in Sept 2006, playin’ the natural gas futures market.
Fire and Damnation Awaits Those Who Transgress Against White America’s Civic Religion
Spearheaded by “researchers” from ABC, white folks “discovered” that retiring Dr. Jeremiah Wright, Jr. had loads of recordings of his sermons available for sale. What the neophyte racial researchers heard shocked their sensibilities to the bone. America was born in a charnal house of mass racial murder and every conceivable abomination to God and Man. This is the great genesis 0f the U.S.A. And it is incontrovertible fact, from which all our racial conflicts and disparities flow.
The real American religion is all about race: the glorification in the conquest of two darker races by the favored white race.
ABC and the rest of the press were initially confused as to how to characterize Dr. Wright’s rather ordinary dissertation on the racist origins and countless crimes of the U.S. Many other Black clerics and statesmen have bequeathed similar assessments to history – although few whites found such documents worthy of attention. Should Dr. Wright’s sermons be listed under “race” or “religion?”
Obama’s Multiracial Coalition and the Politics of Racial Reconciliation
But the common and ordinary wisdom of Black America is inadmissible in mainstream US discourse. In the reality-defying bubble of US corporate media, one does not speak of the genocide and dispossession of Native Americans as “terror”. Comparing the atomic bombings of hundreds of thousands of civilians in World War 2, the snuffing out of two million Vietnamese lives in the sixties and seventies or one million plus Iraqis in the current war is, in mainstream media, strictly off-limits. And any suggestion that US imperial policies in the Middle East, Africa or elsewhere might provoke resistance or retaliation is deemed beyond-the-pale anti-American hate speech.
the foundation of Barack Obama’s electoral strategy is reliance upon a base of voters in black America who are motivated by a nationalistic desire to see one of their own in the White House, no matter what his beliefs. This black vote can be safely and permanently taken for granted, leaving Obama free to do and say whatever it takes to win white votes.
Accordingly, to preserve his standing among white and Republican voters who imagine him as the “post-racial” candidate, Obama has for the past week sought to distance himself from his pastor of twenty years….
:::snip:::
Our “stalwart ally”, as Barack called Israel, is in fact a murderous apartheid regime in which Arab “citizens” are forbidden from owning land in most of the country, where their marriages are not recognized by the state, where Arabs are issued different license plates so their cars can be profiled from a distance, and many other indignities. And those are Arabs with Israeli citizenship. Palestinians, the owners of the land only two generation ago, are still experiencing wholesale confiscation of their remaining land and assets, penned up into Gaza and the West Bank, humiliated, starved and murdered at will by Israeli armed forces and death squads. Obama knows these to be facts, and at earlier points in his political career would show up at Palestinian events in Chicago. But the political game he has chosen to play, and the allies he has chose to play it with require a selective memory.
And just as Ronald Reagan was seldom able to complete a speech on race without a reference to fictional Cadillac-driving welfare queens, Barack Obama was unable to make a speech on race without a gratuitous and pandering reference to the alleged shortcomings of black fathers. Is this what a black candidate must do to prove they are not “stuck” in the sixties? Is this how a “multiracial coalition” is built?
well.. thsi is Glen Ford’s close:
Barak Obama thinks he can talk his way out of the confluence of American racism and an American religion that is saturated with racist doctrines and celebrations. It is an impossible task – but one that will keep the talking heads dumbly bobbing in imitation of thought.
That’s why I see no difference in any of these candidates’ foreign policies. It’s all US/Israel centric from which everything else is measured. Very little talk of “peace” – only volumes on how to manage the ME.
Someone wrote on their blog today that McSurgey campaigns in Israel like it’s just another US state. No doubt. Meanwhile, Israeli journalists have been busy at papers like Ha’aretz (which is the only one I read almost daily) pumping up the case for Obama. They already know where Hillary stands over there.
Same shit, different parties. It’s all very discouraging.
I really had no problem with the speech. Personally, I didn’t think it was all that where people will be speaking about it for generations to come. It is like I told my father, those who support Obama will love it and those who didn’t won’t.
Jeff Greenfield and Frank Lutz were on CBS News and there were asked did Obama accomplish what he set out to do; both agreed with each other and said no. Sure Lutz is a right wing spin master, however, Lutz’s criticism was pretty interesting. He said that the text of the speech was good, but the delivery of the speech was the problem – i.e., not looking directly at the teevee camera and the speech was an overkill on Wright.
FBI mortgage probe examining 17 large firms
WASHINGTON, March 18 (Reuters) – The FBI’s criminal probe of the mortgage lending industry has grown to 17 firms, involves large companies, and could take years to conclude, bureau officials said on Tuesday in a Reuters interview.
The investigation now involves 17 firms, up from 16 previously acknowledged, the officials said.
“The corporate fraud cases are pretty large entities,” said Neil Power, economic crimes unit chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s financial crimes section. “The majority I would think we’re looking at years.”
Power declined to comment when asked if the FBI was looking into the collapse of Bear Stearns, which led to an emergency sale to JPMorgan Chase last weekend. However, he said, “common sense would indicate that we would look at something that big.”
The hundreds of FBI agents taking part in the probe are looking at issues including all phases of the process of securitizing loans, insider trading and whether firms properly disclosed the value of their assets.
Corporate employees ranging from senior executives to lower-level management were under scrutiny, an official said.
The officials described widespread opportunities for fraud in the industry, which can all be traced back to human greed, and to lax documentation in loan applications, which allowed for loans based on false values or income.
“The problem is that banks weren’t doing their due diligence,” Power said.
The FBI disclosed in January that it was investigating 14 firms in its probe of the mortgage-lending industry, where a foreclosure crisis has spread from subprime lenders to the housing market overall, shaken Wall Street and major financial institutions, and threatened the U.S. economy with recession.
The FBI later raised the number of targets to 16. That has since grown to 17, Power said, but the number changes as investigations open and close. Asked if the number would grow, he said “yes,” but declined further characterization and said the probes were in preliminary stages.
89. XP - 19 March 2008
I thought I read somewhere that the only reason she put on a pro-NAFTA face what that she was under constraints by the President handler that she and anti-NAFTA needed to come off as a united front.
Truthfully, NAFTA is a tricky thing because while Obama was mouthing off anti-NAFTA in Ohio, his message was not well received in South Texas, which actually did benefit from NAFTA. Border towns that were dead, suddenly prospered and became one the fastest growing cities in the US. There are numerous studies that say the same thing. I am pretty sure, the Clinton camp will dig that out again.
The Obama camp will try to make an issue of since the latest tracking polls are showing that Wright didn’t help him. The reality is, both candidates are forced to walk a very fine line. But like catnip said, all these released records will do will spawn a thousand gotcha blog posts. Honesty, I don’t see anything will come of it.
Ummm no, you’re not.
It’s not even about the Daily Kos.
It’s about electoral politics here in the United States and the delusions that you can have any influence through either one of the two mainstream parties.
I will say that Joshua Frank nails the issue here. Obama is expanding the voter rolls and participation in the process and that’s what’s making the corporate press nervous.
http://counterpunch.org/frank03192008.html
The Republican establishment certainly deems Obama a serious threat. Not for the reasons Raimondo notes, however. The neocons fear Obama because of his grassroots support, not his “antiwar views”. Simply put: Obama is not antiwar but his following seems to be.
The Obama campaign is about containment as is the Daily Kos.
An interesting crackup going on in the anti-Ron Paul “anti-racist” community.
http://tinyurl.com/33ynju
They’re outing one another left and right and accusing one another of working with both white supremacists and the federal government.
And the problem with Ron Paul seems to be the same problem with Jeremiah Wright.
I listen to talk radio and when the Ron Paul people call in and host tries and talks to them about the flaws in his message they don’t seem to get it. Like when Ron Paul blamed America for 9/11.
There’s so much crossover between the extreme left and extreme right in some of these groups its mind boggling.
But I first became a bit suspicisious when they started photographing people at Columbia back in September who were protesting against the war fever against Iran and trying to publish their personal info on the web.
Re the Anti-War movement.
People will (rightfully) complain about the corporate media ignoring Winter Soldier.
But will anybody state the obvious.
There was a staggering lack of ability to mount a presence on the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
Will anybody in Code Pink or UFPJ or Answer or any of the anti-war groups have the honesty to come out and say “dude where’s my movement”?
There was a staggering lack of ability to mount a presence on the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
My city has a not insignificant peace group presence (the Syracuse Peace Council is one of the oldest such groups in the country, dating to pre WW2) and they had probably their biggest protest in years downtown (meaning maybe about 100 people). Ages of people arrested for blocking traffic: 46, 39, 53, 85, 78, 22, 61, 21, 88 (a Berrigan), 71, 63, 72, 95 (in a wheelchair!), 62, 63, 24, 54, 56, 37, 25, 58, 23.
You get the picture. I mean, this is a college town. College kids just don’t give a crap – maybe they give a crap about the war, but they continue to show little interest in street demonstrations. If they were being drafted, they’d care.
Same in NYC. Nothing but the Granny Peace Brigade. The major anti-war groups have to come to terms with the fact that tying themselves to the Democrats killed the anti-war movement.
108. marisacat - 20 March 2008
I simply don’t know enough about Tibet to make an intelligent comment on it. I’m sure it’s not as black and white as the trendoid Hollywood Buddhists make it out to be. But I doubt it’s coming from the US government either since they just took China off the human rights shit list.
