Oh, and while the king was looking down,
The jester stole his thorny crown.
The courtroom was adjourned;
No verdict was returned.
And while lennon read a book of marx,
The quartet practiced in the park,
And we sang dirges in the dark
The day the music died.

We were singing,
Bye-bye, miss american pie.
Drove my chevy to the levee,
But the levee was dry.
Them good old boys were drinkin whiskey and rye
And singin, this’ll be the day that I die.
This’ll be the day that I die.

Helter skelter in a summer swelter.
The birds flew off with a fallout shelter,
Eight miles high and falling fast.
It landed foul on the grass.
The players tried for a forward pass,
With the jester on the sidelines in a cast.

Now the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune.
We all got up to dance,
Oh, but we never got the chance!
`cause the players tried to take the field;
The marching band refused to yield.
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

Nothing like a little sex scandale wth not one but two lobbyists… the state senator in this conflab of flesh is head of the ethics commitee and from Yorba Linda…

I see TMPMuckraker calls it “filthy sexual boasting”. Maybe under all the interference in the recording, it is.

Madman in the Marketplace - 9 September 2009

Olbermann just said that Rep. Joe Wilson of SC was the Republican who yelled “liar”.

11. marisacat - 9 September 2009

Cuz Ob and Nan and even a little bit, Biden are mads.

12. Madman in the Marketplace - 9 September 2009

I have to say, the raw animosity coming from the Republican side is kind of amazing to see. If only the worthless donks had treated Bush that way, instead of rolling over repeatedly.

marisacat - 9 September 2009

there is some kind of silent demonstration going on.. a whole section of the room holding stacks of white paper… I guess “worthless bills”… or something.

Grijalva, a AZ “liberal” (among others) says he may have misread Ob’s ideology. ya think?

[I]n anticipating a speech that would continue to see Obama move away from the base on the matter of the public option, Grijalva conceded that he may have miscalculated Obama’s ideology amidst the jubilation of his swearing in.

“Maybe I was still in rapture,” said Grijalva, “or maybe I was naïve, but I believed we were on the same page on what government’s role is in the delivery of health care and how to make the private insurances accounted.”

Asked whether the health care debate has changed his opinions of how progressive Obama is, Grijalva sighed, “That is a great question, and I have been avoiding answering it for a while.”

After a pregnant pause, he continued: “(Obama) is not infallible on the policy side. I have come to that recognition. His ability to lead and motivate is never going to go away and we depend on that and support him. But we are not lockstep on everything he wants and his administration is not infallible, they make mistakes.”

Grijalva still thinks the president leans to the left, “going by his intentions.” However, “going by results,” Grijalva says, Obama “is still in the center.”

Meanwhile Grijalva’s counterpart on the Progressive Caucus, Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), says that Obama has revealed him to be exactly who she thought he was, “a moderate.”

On Wednesday, Woolsey recalled her constituents’ fury with her two Decembers ago when she endorsed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary. Now, she says her constituents are coming to her griping that Obama is not as liberal as they had hoped. . . . . .

Sure hope Lynn is not trying to say Hillary is a …….liberal.

Well, I’m guessing milllllllions of Americans (plus me) didn’t stick around for whatever the pundits are pushing in the immediate aftermath, and were all well into their favorite prime time material (or tipple) within seconds past the hour. Choice of whiny little Repub surgeon politician as Mr. Rebut, was very crappy choice . . . dude didn’t stand a chance.

As rhetoric, speech was rather better than I expected.
As policy blather, not particularly worse.

Medicare “sacred trust” section – talkin directly to the SENIORS portion of the evening – was poorly done, though, I thought. Rushed, yet smarmy, and evasive, not to mention confusing. Like the pharma ad voiceovers with side effects.

Madman in the Marketplace - 9 September 2009

“Obamaid is a powerful opiate with hallucinogenic properties. Some who’ve drunk Obamaid have experienced dizziness, or shrinking genitals, or a flexibility of the spine. In rare cases some hear “war” and think “peace”, and still others feel corporate welfare is just better welfare. Do not drink Obamaide if you’re responsible for the care of young children, or plan to think independently or if you think rhetoric should actually match reality.”

“Ask your doctor’s lobby, or your local pharmacist, for a trial dose of Obamaid now.”

“Effects of Congress may differ, depending on individual. Consult your local Congressperson for personal advice.”

wait’ll til seniors don’t get a COLA raise for two years running (2010 AND 2011)… AND Medicare costs go up… esp Medicare Part D which has not mandated constraints on raises.

Good to go!

Speaking of shots, amazing photo up top! When it first unfurled, I thought it was papercut art.

Interesting choice of lyric, too.

Because of the date today, and lotsa recent Beatles news, I’ve had Revolution Number 9 on my mind all day.

Madman in the Marketplace - 9 September 2009

I think they’ve won a bunch of awards in Australia.

Very cool to hear Nick Cave doing world weary noir instead of creepy serial killer, for a change.

I really need to quit watching this shit.

marisacat - 9 September 2009

she’s ignoring news articles I posted in the last thread.

My fav was the hay R are making off some of the Dems own polling, by Celinda Lake, from June. Showing Ob is not a good salesman…by the numbers.

Earlier I posted soem of the ratings numbers for Kennedy undertaking.

The Dems are fooling themselves massively, IF they buy their own slobslobsloberation.

Madman in the Marketplace - 9 September 2009

fooling themselves is the one thing they do very well.

Listening to the KGO “mopping up” after ob speech. The routine is to ridicule anyone who calls with any sort of argument that issues from support of Single Payer, Medicare for All OR any idea of the sheer inequity of ordinary people mandated into providing an income stream for ins cos with NO real alternative.

Much lobbing of what is “moral”.

You hve to be mindful of bullshit slung thru the air by operatives. As you dodge getting hit.

Birds on the Wires

Reading a newspaper, I saw a picture of birds on the electric wires. I cut out the photo and decided to make a song, using the exact location of the birds as notes (no Photoshop edit). I knew it wasn’t the most original idea in the universe. I was just curious to hear what melody the birds were creating.

I sent the music to the photographer, Paulo Pinto, who I Googled on the internet. He told his editor, who told a reporter and the story ended up as an interview in the very same newspaper.

Here I’ve posted a short video made with the photo, the music and the score (composed by the birds).

Grabbed this for my blog:

Clyburn said the episode was as disgraceful — if not more — as Gov. Mark Sanford’s revelation that he traveled to Argentina to conduct an extramarital affair when state officials believed he was on vacation in the nearby Appalachian Mountains.

“I thought he [the governor] had embarrassed us as much as we could be embarrassed. But to have a congressman use the floor of the House of Representatives in a joint session to insult the president the way Joe Wilson did is as embarrassing as anything anyone could think of,” House Majority Whip James E.Clyburn, D-S.C., said. “Our state can do without this.”

haha

Or, should I say, jaja?

marisacat - 9 September 2009

everything is about morality now. And personal responsibility. Thank you Clyburn.

Mickey Kaus said, on a scale he thought it did what worked for their side.

Why are they always taking the OFFENSIVE? and leaving Dems to bleat, moralityyou wounded my morality!

Speaking of jaja: from the big orange peanut gallery:

Gigundo Predatory lender..Gooper from NJ….
former Beneficial/ Household Finance Chair Finn Casperson
shoots himself in the head up in Rhode Island…
He made a shitload when it was rolled into HSBC.

Remember their old ad ditty?

” At Beneficial (doot doot) – You Can Ask For MORE.”

Well, not any more out of Lord Michael Sandberg’s crew at HSBC, Stephen Green at al…that Goldman engineered as the “Burn Bank” for Household’s sub prime, then went on to just fuck Asian Investors.

Oh and they were propping up Madoff., too.
What *they disclosed* was a Billion. Yep. World Class Bankers who needed Bernie. That late in the game. Sure. The Biggest Bank in the World. Put together via M&A in 1998.

So Remember to Thank the Big Dawg and Robert Rubin and Allen Greenspan for it, too. Oh and the Poodles. Don’t forget the poodles.
How Beneficial.

Who could ask for more?

They’re also the banking behemoth that “Lost” 370,000 clients Insurance Trust data during an encrypted transmisssion for an “urgent request” by Swiss Re.

They first said they lost it in the mail. Not hacked. tapped, pinched, or sold. No! Lost in the mail. Only copy, sorry. Crickets since.

Insurance policies, large payout pollicies written on favorable terms are one of the best kept secrets for pillaging FinCo’s and laundering money. I know. I wander. So what’s the body count now? There was the French Guy who slit his wrists in New York, the Fannie Mae CFO who hung himself and this latest stiff with a severe case of Bullet-itis.

39. BooHooHooMan - 9 September 2009

I have to say , the most rousing part of the speech
was here, as he declared the War on Narcolepsy.

marisacat - 9 September 2009

all I hear is the Democrats want to have new laws against lying. They act as tho big propaganda campaigns are not all about lying. Both sides.

Guess they slept thru the very effective Swift Boaters campaign.

And now they have absolutely elevated Glenn Beck and others. A big internal campaign to hold onto their own base, of sorts.

We are under Attack! Incoming! Lies on the fly! Obama is a good man! Don’t let him be brought down! He is the Savior! The Way!… the Word!… the life! the water! The air on earth!

And so on

😆

I suppose this could get funnier.

BooHooHooMan - 10 September 2009

the Democrats want to have new laws against lying.

And of course, they’re lying about that too. LOL
But what’s fucked up is the Dem base knows they’re being lied to… and won’t budge, jump, anything…… not so much out of stupidity ( tho it is stupid) mostly fear and anxiety I guess… because once making that leap, there really is nothing sensible BUT hostility, confrontation, and unapologetic class warfare….Thus they fall for any numbing agent, pick-me-up, or speedball combo of the two.

WRT That invite to bond with the false Good…. who is under attack…it’s as cynical and manipulative as Cheney’s m.o.
And while the Dem R&F knows about the lying, its never examined at its core…lest they acknowledge the motive as a ruthless desire to keep a caste system in place…

But with each iteration of the Hope a Dope, the underdog intermissive between overt RW rule ( not that it’s much hidden now)
…the RW cycle is ever more punishing, the LW poseurs gambit at renewal and reform even more preposterous …

Rationally, who’s against “Reform” ..credible Reform?
Or flat-out dismisses incremental building blocks as a matter of logistics? Nobody whose ever worked physically or in creative or avocational pursuits. But this isn’t even a physical task. Or limited by external realities such as weather, Physics , the Natural Sciences…It’s a political question of the will….that I think is impossible to even approximate Reform given the corruption and collusion in our political duopoly.

Lacking a Parliamentary System and Third Parties.. I think, by definition, credible political “Reform” is impossible here. We keep having these elections engorged with special interest money between 2 parties where both fall over each other to talk of a THIRD way…which yields an All Ways disaster …As you end up with something entirely different:: Plutocratic Governance beyond the reach of political remedy…

We are so fucked, this pretense of a Society…
And to think of Rumsfeld , not a scratch from the Dems on him. or Cheney. or the PNAC crowd….that old jackboot Rummy, who used to hold court talking about the Baathists as “Dead Enders.”

And we got Baghdad BObama preaching Swim Away Ted’s Moral Gospel from beyond the grave…

marisacat - 10 September 2009

in some ways it is tragic… but then disgust sets in. The problem is all the suffering to come. No way to stop it.

Ob has lists of promises while Arnold takes away 30.00 a month from people at the very bottom… minimal state assistance to the ill and disabled.

Whatever comes down is going to be increasingly threadbare.

40. marisacat - 10 September 2009
