I am still advocating for the little Capuchin monkey to take the WH Press Guy Job… with a series of pre-set signs.  Add to the pile:

I don’t have the theoretical background to — to answer that… yada – bilge – bile – etc

I think about the scheisse pile in Ft Hood what I think about a lot of erupting violent crime that needed to be assessed early, better managed before it blew, nipped in the famous bud stage, etc. (Garrido/Dugard and Sowell/many – and others)… it is allowed to fester.  A stressed and distressed population is a goal.  And if the festering, sucking air wounds blow big.. someone somewhere is happy.

A long term side goal, at least by some elements in the country, is and has been race war.  Will it ever blow?  I have no idea.

Oh, and pretzel?  Well, he fails at CinC (I don’t agree with every observation, but with the thrust of the article).  Just my opinion.  Hell, so did George the Second — where to start!  Bill was a mess.  IMO the Democrats still pay for Clinton having picked Cohen, a Republican, as SecDef.  I think the last credible one was, maybe!, Stansfield Turner.

George the First, practically a drooling lunatic. Sold to us, though, as ”Old Aristocracy” (don’t make me laugh too hard!).. and ”Old China Hand”.  He served all of 10 months in China straddling iirc two calendar years – Babs and the kids in Manhattan, it was his life time with the CIA that commended him to the job.  It came out in the 1992 election that, from his own mouth, there are three versions of his War Time Heroics.  Enuf said.

Reagan, the tag end of decades as a costumed, Max Factor’d propaganda prop, happily drafted to the Hard Right Wars. One more paying gig.  Sadly, with better managed Optics.  And a chronically  vigilant, protective wife (she served him well).

But who’s counting in a losing game.

It – being a credible, walk-on, run-way worthy CinC – is not even a consideration for the job … not anymore, not that I can see.  I am not at all surprised that Gates has gotten his H1N1 vaccination (as if I care) but Pretzel and Wife have not — don’t care about that either,  it’s the optics and what is revealed.  (Or, so the publicly told tale goes…)

The whole of the press briefing today is not up yet at WH.gov, but here is the entry at Political Punch.

TAPPER:  Kind of a — a theoretical question, but what — at what point does an attack become considered a terrorist attack, even — even if it’s a domestic terrorist attack?

GIBBS:  I don’t know that I would have the theoretical background to — to answer that.  I would pose that to somebody at — at the FBI. But, again, I don’t know that we’re at a point yet where we fully understand motive.

TAPPER:  OK.  In terms of the House health care reform bill, right now one of the big logjams, as you know, has to do with abortion language and also has to do with whether or not illegal immigrants, undocumented workers can have access to the health insurance exchanges.  Those are both issues that you have said from this podium, I think, that should have been settled, theoretically, because you said that the bill the president signs will not fund abortions, I believe, and…

GIBBS:  The president said that.

TAPPER:  The president said that.  And you’ve said that the bill the president signs will not — illegal immigrants will not have access to health care…

GIBBS:  Well…

TAPPER:  … the health insurance exchanges.  So why are they still debating this on Capitol Hill if the president has made his position as to what he’s going to sign clear?

GIBBS:  Congress, obviously, is working through a process that will ultimately, we believe, before the end of the year get a bill to the president’s desk.  I think there are still discussions going on, on both of these two issues up on Capitol Hill.  While the president would like it, tomorrow will not be the final vote on a bill coming to his desk, but he sees tomorrow as an important step forward.  He’ll go to Capitol Hill tomorrow to advocate for continuing that progress and passing in the House of Representatives a bill.

TAPPER:  Well, I guess the question is, the people who are — have the — have the — have the Democrats who are urging a different position from the one that you and the president have stated about what the president will sign, have they not gotten the message?  Has the president not conveyed to them what he wants in the bill sufficiently?

GIBBS:  Well, as you mentioned, the president’s been clear about what he said, and I think those that — that have a different viewpoint than what the president might have, on either side of the aisle, are best to speak to their motives.

There is enough word around that Ob/WH just wants ”something” by the State of the Union, next year.

This WH seems very interested in big signs, displayed across  the frontage.  Hang a headline on the Plantation House:  Pink ribbons, big ol’ spiders, green water in the fountains.

I suggest a sign that says, ‘Scuse us while we stumble, but we will be mumbling something about it very soon.  Check back!  Meanwhile:  Vote for us!

Leave the sign up for the next occupant.  Nobody decent would want the job.

Speaking of lie down fall down Dems, I snatched this from the Big Orange Wrapped in Hideous Green:

Weiner Withdraws Single Payer Amendment

by mcjoan
Fri Nov 06, 2009 at 06:11:12 PM MST

Taking one for the team, Rep. Anthony Weiner has, in agreement with Speaker Pelosi, withdrawn his single payer amendment:

Yes. Rah rah. “Taking one for the team”. Like he’s some hero.

Pull out those pom poms, mcjoan:

In terms of Weiner’s move, the biggest tactical mistake made by Dems in this debate was not using single payer as the starting point for negotiations from the left. It made no sense in terms of politics. It made no sense in terms of policy. But there you have it. The sort of silver lining for singel [sic] payer proponents is that, while the current bill will do a lot to provide coverage to a lot more people, healthcare reform will be far from finished in this country. There will be more chances in the near future to enact more sweeping reforms. Once we get past the hurdle of doing it once, we’ll just have to keep pushing for more.

[insert the bleeding obvious here]

marisacat - 6 November 2009

It is so laughable. After all, he couldn’t “man up” so to speak. Cute.

catnip - 6 November 2009

Or “Weiner Pulls Out”, as one of the commenters put it.

marisacat - 6 November 2009

😆

That made me laugh!! They all deserve each other.

Madman in the Marketplace - 6 November 2009

taking one, minus lube.

BooHooHooMan - 6 November 2009

Weiner pulled out early?
But everything should be okay!
What’s this? Catholic High School? LOL.

marisacat - 6 November 2009

hmm 🙄 … 😆 …

Catholic High School?

BooHooHooMan - 7 November 2009

After hours?
Why that’s the beauty of the Church. Always Available™.

Sat vote in the House is delayed, as is Ob’s visit to gin up support.

Sunday? Hello?

🙄

marisacat - 6 November 2009

oops. Next week I guess.

3. BooHooHooMan - 6 November 2009

So much in this post. Ob fails as CiC.
Even in it’s pretense, the very construct of the gig as it stands today…Some serviceable facsimile of presence outside of the role playing:: IMO, His cookie cutter media ops, if anything, are bringing his defiency into full view. It wasn’t even that very distinct void “My Pet Goat” impression..Nor the “undisclosed location” WTF of Cheney on 911, The plausible presumption of a wired together Sit Room functioning for good or evil (okay – for LYING) somwhere at least... with the ritually elected involved. It was the worst of Both: Gad, I hadn’t caught the jock strappy “shout-out” to some minor poobah before his on_with_the show appearance before a friendly audience..Christ, while the country was being treated to visuals of an Army Base under seige from within all he had was the cut and paste sound bite.

My impression of Ob and the military is and forever will remain, basketball. Utterly superfluous to the matters at hand. Could have been choppered in with the USO for all it – and he – matters.

The electorate in this country revoked his goodwill pass on Tuesday. In a huge Dem State. They would talk about anything but the reality revealed in Jersey this Tuesday. And his “never waste a crisis” political minders Axelrod and Rahm were prolly glad for the opportunity to go with the rote “shocked” and “outrage” pallaver to cover all their White House asses. … Independents are sooo done with the show and the predictable Talk Talk. Consequently, His approval now is of the Save the Children variety. The base line they carefully established for him before the runup —> Who can’t help but having goodwill towards the fatherless abandoned black child in the marketing materials? (Lily white, middle-to-upper- middle class background carefully Photoshopped OUT.) As for people picking up that phone? Donating now? Yeh. Welp…think Save the Children on response rates from here on out::: and…Good Luck!

The Foundling as mcat incisively put it.
Oh and how awful that sounds to tender ears.

And so damn TRUE in light of The domestic brinkmanship on race wars, all the wedge issues…the PTB counting on it not giving way while engaging in their push/ pull politics, the politics of fear and antagonism on the one hand, coupled with sappy hopey happy “Post” Identity Politics on the other..While pushing the former as vigorously if not moreso than the latter… I say let her rip, because out here where people do in fact live in a multicultural albeit increasingly abused society, my money is on people over the brokers.

marisacat - 6 November 2009

hmm the half brother who actually grew up with the father so yearned for has a book out – or out soon…. The half brother who lives in China.

Interesting week… The problem is, just my opinion, these are advertising, PR and – cough choke strangle – diversity people (the last a sad threadbare corporate game). Being in office is kinda different.

Good luck!

Madman in the Marketplace - 7 November 2009

life is no longer the Benetton ad he’d thought it was.

BooHooHooMan - 6 November 2009

LOL. Whoops got carried away with the italics.
I shoulda pulled out. Now I’m the father of a whole brood of uncared for italics roaming the highways and byways of the internets…
A damn shame, frankly. LOL.

BooHooHooMan - 7 November 2009

I agree..and when Biden proves prescient on his contemplating the obvious: “…a President will be tested” (thanks, Joe!) The Foundling thing pass … won’t cut it anymore than the Messiah construct or the Intellectual ( stall) will…Any crisis..someone keeling over…car accident..trauma room.. distinctions in the worn and war’d out “foxhole” metaphors surrounding national security and economic crises…All that political refuge under ethnic, religious, class distinctions,..all that shit gives way…
All I can say is the Obama groupies better hold on to their mementos of “the Cause” while the void is filled by reactionary, and unapologetic, Alpha Males from the RW…

Classic Ratchet Effect.

marisacat - 7 November 2009

oh i had forgtten those little “founding mission statements” from SMBIVA… so on the mark:

[T]he electoral ratchet permits movement only in the rightward direction. The Republican role is fairly clear; the Republicans apply the torque that rotates the thing rightward.

The Democrats’ role is a little less obvious. The Democrats are the pawl. They don’t resist the rightward movement — they let it happen — but whenever the rightward force slackens momentarily, for whatever reason, the Democrats click into place and keep the machine from rotating back to the left.

Here’s how it works. In every election year, the Democrats come and tell us that the country has moved to the right, and so the Democratic Party has to move right too in the name of realism and electability. Gotta keep these right-wing madmen out of the White House, no matter what it takes. . . . .

I comfort myself for not catching on sooner. Middling course or not, break in the fall or not, but things did change (I am wearing garlic!) for 30 years in the post-war era.

All to be undone however. ALL of it.

BooHooHooMan - 7 November 2009

tell me about it. I was a dope till 2006. Voted Dem believing the populist party line crap for years, futile “blocking” moves lesser of 2 evils crap from 2000-2006. I am done with them. To me voting now is all about anti incumbancy, generating whatever political volitility can be had from that. Which admittedly is little since it is as easily co-opted in the next ratchet Right with “kinder gentler” ‘compassionate” packaging…The only thing I think might work is getting the thing to move quick enough that that the spring itself, through overuse, that wellspring of centrist resistance that holds it in place ,( i.e.grateful respite or fear of even worse )… that the spring itself holding the metaphorical ratchet in place..gives way..Basically, for the last year. Ob has done nothing.. Simply functioned as respite from daily ratchet Right under Cheney and Bush..

I saw “Milk” the other night….One line that stood out was from a vignette, Penn portraying Harvey Milk working the street, meeting a young Cleve Jones who was then cruising the Castro, trying to get him involved politically…The initial response to Milk from Jones was portrayed as saying: “Elections are nothing more than a bourgeois affectation. ” Smart kid then, if the anecdote is true… I wonder what he thinks about it after all the these years.

marisacat - 7 November 2009

If you enjoyed Milk, rent The Times of Harvey Milk… it was made just about 6 years after he was killed… I loved it. And the DVD has wonderful little interviews with San Franciscans, people who knew Harvey….. from that era.

I am glad for Milk to sort of not let him be forgotten, but it made me really mad in some ways. I thought Van Sant ducked in a really big way. Big big way.

BooHooHooMan - 7 November 2009

I liked it. And will do on the rec for the other flick.
Penn’s performance I thought was very good, however tight the scope and rather formulaic reduction of personal relationship conflicts were developed as they proceeded through his emergence publicly, politically..

.A few hints, but otherwise skimmed right over the Dem machine, even less about White’s own sexual issues, the political roles of the Police and the Catholic Church…Josh Brolin did a good job too, in playing a nuanced character, but the very source of those nuances was left wholly unexplored, namely, the nexus between Catholic political influence, which ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS is dug into the Democratic political machines and every Police and Fire Department in any major city in the U.S.

(Okay, a film critic I am not. )

marisacat - 7 November 2009

that is where Van Sant ducked. Big time. Such an easy little story to peddle about White… and if he was or was not gay ”yearning”. Who knows who cares.

Geesh. Fuckign boring.

marisacat - 7 November 2009

oh I just realised. It, Van Sant’s little diversion game, makes White’s EXECUTION KILLINGS of both Milk and Moscone more second hand smoke.

Yes, that is the answer for absolutely everything.

marisacat - 7 November 2009

Oh Cleve is nothing more these days than an artful dodger. What else is new.

4. marisacat - 7 November 2009

Late night word, direct from Steny! They are very close. Thisclose. Getting there. Revving up the little red engine that could. That can. That will. They swear!

But they don’t know when they’ll vote.

BooHooHooMan - 7 November 2009

Oh goody!
The Robusto with Special Triggers Splooge Sauce.
It’s a comin. Soon .
This is worse than that beatoff buildup over the Biden VP announcement.
(Not to disparage beating off and, in fairness to Melrath, I don’t mean to be cruel to any Del Demmers with Biden in their masturbatory fantasises. LOL. I mentioned Biden TWICE tonite. Uh oh.)
😯

With that, I’m done for the evening. LOL.

P.S. re “HCR” ….FWIW, Hospitals and temp assignment opportunities are offering increased staff recruiting incentives of late..For now..The usual cyclical ass kiss pitch : Some more dough, more flexibility .Pretty indicative of where the AHA sees this all going. Followed by profit preserving budget warring, cutbacks, insane patient to staff ratios..IOW, the usual…

It’s going to be a long winter.

marisacat - 7 November 2009

They have breached the mountain top! The peak, the summit is in sight… and then down to the valley floor. it is dead of winter but the valley is awash, blooming wildly with spring flowers.

Yeah. The impasse was ……………….. all. about. abortion.

And yes the pro abortion people emerged from the marathon mountain climb…………….disappointed.

And in the end, Pelosi had to convince the liberal wing of her party to hold their noses [I suggest they hold their genitalia, for the full flavor! Or! they could hold each others’ genitals!] and back a bill that would restrict access to abortions more than many wanted.

With 258 seats — counting newly elected New York Rep. Bill Owens, who was sworn in Friday — Democrats can afford to lose 40 members and still pass the bill.

But as Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and other senior Democrats met into the night with undecided members, their safety margin appeared to be narrowing. A succession of Democrats went public with their plans to oppose the bill, including first-term Reps. John Adler of New Jersey, Suzanne Kosmas of Florida, Walt Minnick of Idaho and Frank Kratovil Jr. of Maryland. . . . .

What a shock. The wimmens – the poor wimmens!, were in the way.

I am pretty well done.

****

Aaron Glanz is on KGO… prattling about ”how important mental health care is to Michelle Obama… not just for the service men and women, but for their families.”

Don’t worry! Second hand smoke issues all over Ft Hood is being pushed quite well.

hmmm Don’t make me laugh TOO hard.

Madman in the Marketplace - 7 November 2009

check’s in the mail!
