I think I can safely say that we all missed you. I hope you’re computer problems are done for a while.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

ugh I hope so.

but will play with the dell for a day or so. It may be me, lost without all of my old shortcuts.

CSTAR - 18 December 2009

Hmm I was wondering if you encountered a filibuster.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

I think I did actually. Every single thing that could go wrong did.

ugh!

2. ms_xeno - 18 December 2009

Dahling!

My feet are killing me, thanks to the temp-go-round. Oh, and I had a bad/uninsured tooth pulled several minutes before it managed to abscess. Wheee!!

Happy Fucking Holidays, Mud Wallowers!! 😀

marisacat - 18 December 2009

oh god you have my sympathies!

toward the end I developed an abcess… I think from the sheer stress. But luckily mine went down.

ms_xeno - 18 December 2009

I was just lucky to find somebody who’d see me without insurance. Feh.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Butterscotch pouts because yet another year goes by without an Xmas tree for her to destroy. Life is so cruel.

=^..^=

marisacat - 18 December 2009

lol I will happily send her, free ship, our Bill Graham Memorial Menorah, from Union Sq downtown. It is appallingly ugly. As in unbelievably ugly.

3. marisacat - 18 December 2009

I released a few comments to the last thread stuck in moderation. SO SORRY!

AND lying in bed one night wondering if this would ever end… I remembered that months ago to thwart spam, masses of it, I set old comment threads to close in 5 days.

Not realising … etc.

So sorry for the long interruption!

4. catnip - 18 December 2009

Well, it’s about fucking time! (kidding – sorta) 🙂

Missed you! And I’ve rottttted my brainnnn from reading too much dkos. I think shortbread cookies cure that though…

5. lucid - 18 December 2009

Well… I’ve been getting irate calls from my old landlord… It seems that he wasn’t happy with the $150,000 in rent I paid him, or the $25,000 plus countless hours I spent improving his property from an unlivable commercial space into a 2 bedroom apartment with a [recording studio/darkroom/third bedroom/ whatever – with ventilation]. Nor was he happy that I left a refrigerator and some other amenities for the next tenant… No… So I’m debating calling him on shabbat [he’s an Hassidic Jew] and suggesting that one of two things will happen: 1. I’ll call the DOB and report him for operating an illegal residential slum in a commercial building without a certificate of occupancy and call the FDNY over the fact that he is not remotely close to being in compliance with the fire code, or 2. He can leave me the fuck alone and count his blessings that I didn’t live in the space rent free fro 6 months or more…

What do ya’ll think?

marisacat - 18 December 2009

call.

report him.

the fire code thing (not even a fire escape) is seriously a problem. I am SURE he makes enough from the tenants to bring it up to code.

lucid - 18 December 2009

I really should. The more I think about, the more I get pissed off about the fact that he basically didn’t care about my life at the same time I was dutifully forking over my rent money on time.

The only thing that prevents me is that there are other people in the building with a lot invested and they would likely be evicted overnight if the true conditions were known. That kinda seems like bad karma to me.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

well still.. leave him the message.

… and wasn’t it another tenant who treated you badly? Or complained?

ms_xeno - 19 December 2009

Ugh. lucid. 😦

You should be producing a guest column over at SMBIVA. One of Smith’s blind spots has to do with his constant assertions that somehow tenants have much more power over their lives than homeowners do.

I’d be the first to agree with him that the mortgage-real estate beast is a horror in its current form. But I draw the line at saying a tenant’s life is inherently better than a homeowner’s life, automatically. I haven’t forgotten what it’s like dealing with landlords and I’m not even sure how much longer we’ll be able to keep our home. :/

marisacat - 19 December 2009

One of Smith’s blind spots has to do with his constant assertions that somehow tenants have much more power over their lives than homeowners do.

(thanks to catnip for cluing gme into the shortcut to cut and paste… I drove myself silly trying to use the so called mac short cut… that did not work on the neighbor’s computer eiihter … and he had to call someone to get that!!)

ugh. Tell Smith to get a clue! or is he a long suffering landlord. Those boychicks are REALLY good at some stuff and at some they fucking suck. There, I said it.

An elderly Danish lady I was friends with, had masses of us working on her behalf a few years ago. I took the responsibility to join (25.00) a local Tenant’s Union and use them. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. All they wanted to do was mount demonstrations at City Hall or at targetted properties (and send out emails alerting you!). And thsi one was considered one of the best! If not the best advocate. You also had to leave messages for them … and they never never never called back.

ms_xeno - 19 December 2009

…Those boychicks are REALLY good at some stuff and at some they fucking suck…

I’m afraid that might be the story of us all. :/

marisacat - 19 December 2009

I think what gets me about them is their disdain for human suffering if it is not directly in their experience.

witness the threads about rape of a 13 year old (just one example… ). And I am nto even all that hot to drag less-than-dear Roman around. He is one more pawn.

6. lucid - 18 December 2009

I also had to testify at a grand jury! Not remotely like Law & Order, but I was nervous nonetheless.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

what kind of issue? Any ham sandwiches in view? [snicker]

lucid - 18 December 2009

Check fraud. A vendor of one of the companies I work for has someone involved in a check fraud ring. In October we were contacted by the bank because two separate individuals tried to cash “payroll checks” at the same teller 5 minutes apart… that company doesn’t run a payroll. So, the cops got involved, arrested both suspects, the checks were obviously forged and has a laser printed signature on them – which had obviously been scanned from a legit check and reprinted. So I had to testify against the two who attempted to cash the checks. The morning I got back from court, after we had closed the old account and opened a new one, I discovered that 6 more checks had been cashed, with the exact same signature scan on the new account! Fucking $6,300! On an account on which no one is supposed to be able to cash checks, especially after the fraud that had just happened.

Undoubtedly, I’ll need to testify again. And according to the cops this happens all the time, but really its nuts. Basically, assholes are preying on desperate people to go in and commit this fraud on the promise that they’ll get a cut, but the people cashing the checks have to present they’re ID – so they’re the ones who get caught and go to jail, not the real perps.

7. ts - 18 December 2009

marisacat - 18 December 2009

very funny!!

I wish!

Frankly I was lucky I had Tiger issues to keep me amused. With no netteries to trawl.

9. marisacat - 18 December 2009

HA! Listening to Taibbi and Kuttner on with Moyers. They are cutting off whatever fig leaves Obama was holding on to.

In a way it is hilarious.

Good Luck! (that is for Obama-ites)

toward the end Kuttner floats that Ob is a “work in progress”. Yeah and so is a seedling. Now he is onto “smart” and “complicated”.

taibbi is a little more clear eyed.

catnip - 18 December 2009

Have you read Taibbi’s article: Obama’s Big Sellout? Needless to say, Taibbi is now on the Enemies List at dkos. Oh, the drama!

marisacat - 18 December 2009

oh thanks for that….

will go read it now… 😉

CSTAR - 18 December 2009

Wasn’t Taibbi a believer last year? Better late than never I guess.

regardless, he did say something disturbing on Moyers this evening: The health bill that we’re getting is in fact the bill that the administration wanted from the beginning, Disturbing because all this “debate” is pure “kabouki” as he called it. Makes all that “analysis” at TPM kind of silly.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

Jann Wenner got on board big time. RS and Taibbi did a few early slams… then around the time that the NYT climed on the buck board, so did RS.

I caught that from Taibbi on Moyers…. and I noticed that Kuttner agreed with him.

I would agree… I don’t think Ob did much at all. But then I never thought he had guts or energy. Nor any real beliefs.

marisacat - 19 December 2009

I just heard the interview with Taibbi and Kuttner again… it was Moyers that raised the comment, saying that Feingold has said that this bill is the one the Pretzel Peace Prize WANTED.

🙄

Madman in the Marketplace - 19 December 2009

he got off the wagon pretty quickly, iirc.

Watching MSNBC this morning, it looks like they gave Nelson what he wanted restricting abortion. It’s pretty clear to me that most of this “debate” has been one sided and just a show to give the “left” the idea that they’re part of the party and not just taken for granted.

10. catnip - 18 December 2009

blackwaterdog – dkos Obama pic-diary poster and fanboy extraordinaire – posts a Liberal racism. It’s not even hidden anymore. diary, gets smacked around for it and GBCW’s for the second time since August, pouting about why “he doesn’t belong” there anymore. 😦

Popcorn!

lucid - 18 December 2009

there’s a reason I’ve gone to that site 7 times in the last year… ugh…

catnip - 18 December 2009

The head explosion rate has risen exponentially as the so-called health insurance “reforms” have been whittled away. Cyber torches and pitchforks (which won’t, of course, actually materialize in the real world because dog forbid that’s the way they operate.) They are busy writing sternly-worded letters though.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

kgo is on the health care bill… and the callers are very very down. I mean down down down.

Phew! So glad I did not vote for the Peace Prize Foundling.

lucid - 18 December 2009

and yes, one of them was to post a poem a couple of weeks ago & then berate MB while I was there in a couple of comments…

marisacat - 18 December 2009

I wonder if MB has any teeth left. hmm maybe just gums.

catnip - 18 December 2009

MB’s like the site daddy now.

marisacat - 18 December 2009

lucid - 18 December 2009

oh, sorry, they are… the weeks, they just blend into each other.

11. marisacat - 18 December 2009

have to love it…. I have not managed to get to a site and read yet about it… but I just LOVE that we are now pounding AQ in YEMEN.

Can things get better?

Madman in the Marketplace - 19 December 2009

whenever NPR, liberal bastion that it is, mentioned Yemen and the bombing this week, they made a point of saying “ancestral home of Osama bin Laden” during the story.

We have always been at war with Eastasia etc.

12. BooHooHooMan - 18 December 2009

I laughed seeing this…
Check out Liz Windsor –

I loved that she was taking the train to The Country House. (one of them!)

We are all so scrood.

BooHooHooMan - 19 December 2009

Scrood indeedy. The Queen having to thumb up to the House from the Royal sidings….As Our fancied Royals are well past that dreadful turn, Fully committed now to Civil War in Pakistan.

I did not see that about Yemen.
Saw an interesting retrospective on the assasination of Faisal.

Really glad your back. And just in time on the domestic front too.
I think it should be quit the finale as the Duopoly rams the HC mandates thru. I doubt they’ll settle with the Status Quo. No, I think the Donklephants will ram it thru. And then do what they always do::
Back to War. Who can imagine what unifying flag draped horrors they have in store. …

marisacat - 19 December 2009

oh yeah they will ram HC thru… the late news tonight said that Ben Nelson, big Africa Game Hunter …. has been pacified with his abortion issues. As soon as he is pregnant I suggest he not have an abortion.

All so staged.

The only amusement to come… is the shock some people will feel, who don’t read much and sadly believed ObRama… as no health care, much, good OR bad occurs for YEARS.

BooHooHooMan - 19 December 2009

I saw on DK people are calling for His Obness to be primaried…
We should Primary Him! “- LOL –
I saw Howard the other night on Matthews…credibly pissed in that “God they used me like a cheap piece of Ass” kind of way…LOL.
So the cry goes out for Howard now….
Of course, Howard WOULD be visible,
that Donk hoof – whoops- he had debossed in his own rump and all…
Funnier still, is the Obotniks calling for really really real change…
with Hillary…LOL…Hell, why not?
Plenty of Poodle piddle puddles to come.

marisacat - 19 December 2009

poor howard. he had his chance… he stayed inside the party. which is what they ALL do. It means nothing ever changes.

Simple as that.

Howard’s big threat to BOTH PARTIES was that he had natural organic cross over appeal. Aside from the fact he did want to change a few things.

Not that it matters now. Nor then…..

Madman in the Marketplace - 19 December 2009

they mentioned this morning that they gave Lieberman “permission” to go home early to celebrate Hannukah.

Dred Scott Redux: Obama and the Supremes Stand Up for Slavery

The Constitution is clear: no person can be held without due process; no person can be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. And the U.S. law on torture of any kind is crystal clear: it is forbidden, categorically, even in time of “national emergency.” And the instigation of torture is, under U.S. law, a capital crime. No person can be tortured, at any time, for any reason, and there are no immunities whatsoever for torture offered anywhere in the law.

And yet this is what Barack Obama — who, we are told incessantly, is a super-brilliant Constitutional lawyer — has been arguing in case after case since becoming president: Torturers are immune from prosecution; those who ordered torture are immune from prosecution. They can’t even been sued for, in the specific case under review, subjecting uncharged, indefinitely detained captives to “beatings, sleep deprivation, forced nakedness, extreme hot and cold temperatures, death threats, interrogations at gunpoint, and threatened with unmuzzled dogs.”

Again, let’s be absolutely clear: Barack Obama has taken the freely chosen, public, formal stand — in court — that there is nothing wrong with any of these activities. Nothing to answer for, nothing meriting punishment or even civil penalties. What’s more, in championing the lower court ruling, Barack Obama is now on record as believing — insisting — that torture is an ordinary, “foreseeable consequence” of military detention of all those who are arbitrarily declared “suspected enemy combatants.”

And still further: Barack Obama has now declared, openly, of his own free will, that he does not consider these captives to be “persons.” They are, literally, sub-humans. And what makes them sub-humans? The fact that someone in the U.S. government has declared them to be “suspected enemy combatants.” (And note: even the mere suspicion of being an “enemy combatant” can strip you of your personhood.)

This is what President Barack Obama believes — believes so strongly that he has put the full weight of the government behind a relentless series of court actions to preserve, protect and defend these arbitrary powers. (For a glimpse at just a sliver of such cases, see here and here.)

marisacat - 19 December 2009

ms_xeno - 19 December 2009

We had a very slight cold snap here. “Cold snap” in Portland meaning it was in the 25F-35F range for a whole week. As compensation, we also got a lot of uncharacteristic bright sun. They had plenty of space heaters set up where I work, so with a hat and all the running around, it really wasn’t all that bad.

A week later, the temperatures shot back up into the normal 35F-45F range and the rain came back. I’m standing at work one day with some (s)hit radio station they’ve got cranked up and the DJ is blathering breathlessly about how people better be careful on the road now that it’s raining again. Uh, yeah. Because it never rains in Portland, Oregon in the wintertime. One week without drizzle and we’ll all forget how rain works. Fuck, Dude. It’s not a fucking monsoon. It’s RAIN!

Does anyone else remember the days when DJ’s at least had to be smart enough to find the hole in the middle of a record? Now they don’t even have to be that smart. Sweet Jeebus. Madman with his rants about America as a nation of pants-wetting babies is never around when I need him.

Also, Nickelback’s popularity bolsters my assertion that God can’t possibly exist.

That is all.

Both the House and Senate bills would make it against the law for insurance companies to deny you coverage on the basis of a pre-existing condition or illness. Both would stop insurers from charging exorbitant premiums on the basis of age, health, or gender.

“Progressives For Obama” Change Name To Omit Their President

From the comments:

…What a bunch of feckless f*%ks. I’m beyond tired of these fools feigning dismay and disappointment in Obama – as if they didn’t know the real deal on the man from day one. Even if they were fooled during the campaign, they should have seen the light days into his adminstration as he loaded his cabinet with ex-Bushies and every bankster, warmonger, Zionist cheerleader, labor hater, and poser environmentalist he could find.

Spare me the rebranding. Hayden, Fletcher, Michael Moore, Sirota, and every other left leaning lizard are still the same donkey suck ups they’ve always been. If they meant to do anything of substance, they would not have been up Obama’s butt in the first place. After all the crap Obama has done, they’ve waited a mighty long time to voice their tepid trepidations. A new name will not change the stripes on these lame leopards… — “beverly,” posted 12/16/09

Whether deliberate or accidental, I rather like the notion of “striped” leopards. Professional Progs, forever trying to be “out there” while keeping their place at the trough. It’s too perfect. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I’m going to skim off some of my ill-gotten temp booty to buy mr_xeno a present now. Of course, almost all the crap where I temp is foreign-made. If by some slim chance, I can buy him something local, it’ll be sticking it to DA MAAAAAN, Oughts-Style.

I’ve finally gotten used to calling them “The Oughts,” and now we’re nearly done. It’s not faiiiiiiir!

Some people can tolerate poison. Some can’t. (3+ / 2-)

I saw this coming. I’ve lurked occasionally ever since this site was started — but I prefer smaller discussions — so I didn’t register. When I saw the direction some discussions were taking — I registered hoping maybe I could reach people and hopefully start a chain reaction that might help prevent it or at least weaken it.

At the time — I didn’t realize exactly what I was up against. I thought it was “simply” just not understanding somebody else’s perspective. I really thought if I took the time to explain some positions — people would listen and start to understand. Boy — was I wrong! I spoke as gently and tactfully as I could — but I treated as though I had said the most vile things imaginable.

There is a group of people who are deliberately spreading poison and they will do it no matter what Obama does. I’m sure it’s no secret that there is subset of white gay males who are extremely racist. They not only attack Obama — they go after black people as well. How did we go all these years and not see it? They weren’t “wounded” and lashing out.

Notice all the irrational things they say about Obama and DADT? That’s always puzzled me — but I’m not one to look for hate — so I guess I didn’t want to see it. But — the same people who would try to destroy Obama over DADT don’t direct that kind of anger toward congress — the folks who actually write laws — and I see some of them falling over themselves saying positive things about Bill Clinton. So — finally it clicked.

They’re insanely angry and lashing out at Obama and black people in general because they feel deeply insulted that they — white men — are banned from the military but the country would let a “n” be the commander in chief.

And well — just as we know some black folks quickly use injustices against blacks as a shield when challenged about something they’re doing wrong — these folks quickly throw up their shield — too. Unfortunately — some of us are weak to those shields. And — they get willful help from the folks who still can’t stand that Hillary lost.

They’re poison — and there’s really not much we can do about them but wait for more people to see through them. So — as the poison spreads — those of us who have less tolerance for it will continue to leave before it kills our souls.

I’m about there — too. I feel hate coming on. I want to pay them back. But — that’s not who I want to be. They’ve infected every site I enjoy — though — and I don’t want to give them all up. But — if I don’t get away from them soon — who I am will begin to die.

well that is a conveniently timed comment.

Kos is purging gays? He shouldn’t let the door hit him. (who knows?)

There is a lot of racism and bigotry. quel news.

But just as an example… we have the lovely Osbey Davis of Vallejo. Won the mayoralty over in the East Bay burg in 2007. Recount twice, won by two votes. He is the first black mayor… his opponent would have been the first gay mayor.

I did nto know that Vallejo is a hto bet of fundi fucking religion. With the added compoment (we are not exactly like ALalbama we have our own tweaks to it) of masses of Filipino and various Pacific Islaner and Asian mission xtian.

Osbey himself if a “christian lawyer” and apparently advertised as such in the Yaller Pager.

Well he gives and interview to the NYT while I was offline calling gays sinners. Then acting huffy.

Upshot to the long tale of woe… there was a demonstration at City Hall a couple of weeks ago. Older retired white gays (quite a lot of the crowd was just that) and thuggish young black ministers.

I was offline so I did not get to go to the news station site and watch the whole video…

BUT: not pretty. Nor encouraging. I sure do nto see Jesus in this anywhere…. surely not with Osbey Davis who has declared Vallejo of City of God.

Well it’s bankrupt. For real Officially. maybe that is appropriate.
