BP to drill deeper in search of oil

BP plans to take the search for oil to even greater depths below the earth’s surface. The Gulf of Mexico, where BP has already made a huge discovery more than 5 miles below the seabed, is one of the areas where the group is planning new tests for oil technology in the hope of unlocking untapped resources in the lower tertiary geological formation.

By Roland Gribben
Published: 7:35PM BST 17 Aug 2009

Neil Shaw, BP’s team leader in the Gulf region, said:

“We think it holds really great potential but it’s going to be very difficult.” BP has been investing heavily in the Gulf region, buying new exploration territory at auctions in an area accounting for more than half of its 652,000 barrels a day US production.

BP has already made one significant find in the lower tertiary zone. The Kaskida field in 5,860 feet of water and more than 26,000 feet below the seabed is estimated to hold more than 3bn barrels.

With more appraisal drilling needed and fracturing of rock formations to increase flow rates not expected to get under way until next year it will be several years and several billion pounds of investment before the first oil flows.

Mr Shaw said the risk is not small, but succeeding required expecting unforeseen problems and then working to overcome them. “One way I think about this is, if I look back at when we discovered Thunder Horse in 1999, we did not have the technology to develop Thunder Horse, and here we are 10 years later, it’s onstream. It’s performing very well,” he said.

Reading about how many turtles have washed up on one extended stretch of beach around Pass Christian MS… 31 as of yesterday… it will be a herculean effort, eventually, just to collect the dead.

[W]ith the help of a neighbour, she carried the turtle up the beach as she had been instructed to do, and left it by a wooden post where it was still lying a few hours later, by now starting to smell in the muggy Mississippi heat. “I’ve lived here 20 years and I’ve never seen a dead turtle on this beach before,” Carroll said.

All along this strip, and the 26 miles of beaches to which it connects, people have been reporting similar mysterious sightings over the past couple of days. This morning eight sea turtles were found dead in Pass Christian, in addition to nine yesterday, bringing the total number of dead turtle sightings in the wider area to at least 31.

Tests on the animals were being carried out at the Institute of Sea Mammal Studies in Gulfport, 10 minutes’ drive along the sea from Pass Christian. The institute specialises in the study and treatment of stranded dolphins, sea turtles and other marine life and has a dedicated laboratory where 23 turtles are being kept in plastic bags in an animal morgue. Among them are Loggerheads, Leatherheads and Kemp’s Ridley – the most critically endangered species of sea turtle in the Gulf.  snip

I am listening to the ABC evening news on the Big Old Bad Bomb in Times Sq.

Such drama.

But I read the assembler of the bomb used the wrong fucking fertiliser.

Doesn’t sound too expert.

I am just under under under whelmed.

pretty fuckin bad, when instead of:

say,…look at that cute puppy over there >>>>>>>>>>>>

it becomes:

say look at that [fake] bomb, in that crowd of hundreds, over there>>>>>>>>>>

marisacat - 3 May 2010

ABC did a whole segment on how the vendors in TImes Sq are all disabled vets, “used to fighting for freedom”… by special state law, an old one, they can all obtain street vendor licenses. It was a, or several, vendors who, reports go, first saw the trickle of smoke from the van. SVU or whatever.

From the report you would have thought this was massive bomb… placed strategically between two concret buildings to further impact the blast. Their animation showed many streets in red (running with blood?) as what would ahve impacted.

Gee. I am still under under whelmed.

oh yeah, that too (cons). But, while I’m not into sacred cows either, I think some just got sucked up. For instance many likely joined the service pre 9/11, to get an education and therefore living wage job (at least hoped for one), that they knew they couldn’t get otherwise, never believing they’d end up slinging a gun they might have to actually use.

13 days later………….. and in the UK press……………..

The White House faced claims last night that the Gulf Coast oil spill could have been contained and kept far from land within days of the Deepwater Horizon explosion if oil from the gushing wellhead had been burnt off in line with a plan drafted by the US Government for precisely this sort of disaster.

The plan requires the immediate deployment of specialised “fire booms” capable of burning 95 per cent of a slick— but not one boom was available on the Gulf Coast at the time of the blast, according to a supplier who eventually provided one eight days later.

“The whole reason the plan was created was so that we could pull the trigger right away,” Ron Gourget, a former federal oil spill response co-ordinator and one of those who drafted the document, said yesterday.

The disclosure came as officials analysed the bodies of 23 dead sea turtles found on Mississippi beaches to see if they were poisoned by the growing slick, and the Port of New Orleans planned to start scrubbing ships’ hulls as they enter the Mississippi River. ….

And and and and:

So far, merchant vessels have been guided round the slick. But if it grows to the point that they have to plough through it, they will be scrubbed with high-pressure hoses at two cleaning stations being set up in the delta region, 75 miles southeast of Louisiana’s main container port.

“The crucial question is whether the ship is transporting oil into clean water,” Chris Bonura, of the Port of New Orleans, said. Cleaning is not yet mandatory, but the US Coast Guard could require it if there were a risk of contaminating the river with the heavy oil at the centre of the slick.
….snip……..

and and and and……………………… who knows what coule have been done in better weather and milder water….. a few days ago… like the 24th.

Hope he was not counting on a lotta Gulf votes.

A single fire boom of the kind required by the “In-Situ Burn” plan drafted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for Gulf Coast spills can burn up to 75,000 gallons of oil an hour – roughly a third of the estimated daily leakage from the Deepwater Horizon site.

“They said this was the tool of last resort,” Jeff Bohleber, a supplier of the booms, said. “No, this is absolutely the asset of first use. Get in there and start burning the oil before the spill gets out of hand.”

So far federal officials have authorised only one test burn eight days into the disaster, using a boom obtained from Mr Bohleber in Illinois, when it became clear that none was available in the Gulf region. Instead of burning, emergency workers are relying on chemical dispersants being injected by submersibles directly into the leaks in the collapsed riser pipe that connected the wellhead to the rig.

Not quite the previously reported version of that abortive burn…………………..

Whew.

No wonder they are so excited by a putzer of a bomblet in Times Sq, way far north.

My favorite bit of agitprop on the not-bomb was Rep. Of course, Viacom is actually a couple of blocks down the street from where the SUV was parked … but facts schmax etc.

I think he might have muttered something about how many Jews there are in NYC so it was probably an attack on Israel or something too, but I wasn’t listening too close because he gives me a headache.

LA Photographer Faces Criminal Charges, Appeals for Help

Los Angeles-based photographer Jonas Lara faces up to a year in prison if convicted of aiding and abetting two graffiti artists whose work he was documenting when the three men were arrested on February 2, 2010 in South Central Los Angeles.

Lara has declined two plea deals and has pleaded not guilty to the charge, believing that he was within his rights as a photographer to be at the scene documenting the work of the artists. However Lara says his public defender, David Gottesmann, has so far refused to consider his rights as a photographer as part of the defense. “Every time I bring [photographer’s rights or First Amendment rights] up, he just laughs at me,” Lara says.

Jeff Sedlik, Lara’s former teacher, has offered to testify on his behalf to establish his credibility as a photographer, but Lara says Gottesman insists that the case has nothing to do with Lara being a photographer.

Lara has appealed for help with the case to rights organization like the ACLU, but Lara says the organizations have told him they do not get involved in criminal cases.

If convicted, the Art Center College of Design graduate and former US Marine would be unable to enter the MFA program at the School of Visual Arts, into which he was recently accepted, in September.

Recognizing the need to hire a private attorney, Lara has established a legal fund to solicit help from friends, family and colleagues. Lara’s jury trial is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 11.

Lara’s camera, lenses and memory cards, which he uses to make a living, were also seized, and have not been returned to him.

recorded this last night, watched it when I got home … really good stuff.

TV Review: ‘The Boondocks’ returns to Adult Swim

The premiere picks up in October of 2008. Obama is on the verge of election, but his opponents are getting increasingly desperate to tie him to militant radicals in an effort to scare white folks. When Obama’s associations with Jeremiah Wright fail to get sufficient traction, the hatemongers point to 10-year-old Huey Freeman, one of Obama’s MySpace friends.

A PBS documentary crew, led by a filmmaker who looks and sounds an awful lot like Werner Herzog (it’s not a coincidence) shows up at the Freeman’s suburban home and demands Huey’s opinion on Obama, demand that he speak essentially on the behalf of the entire African-American population.

Since Huey has always been assumed to be a pint-sized alter ego for McGruder, it’s hard not to read this as the author’s frustration at being approached by the media for his own all-encompassing opinions during the election cycle, peppered with inane questions like, “As a black, African-American Negro, are you merely excited or are you extremely excited that everything is going to change forever.”

The Herzog figure wants to know what Huey thinks because, by extension, he wants to know what he’s supposed to think. The problem is that Huey’s reaction is an unequivocal, “Eh.”

It’s not the answer Herzog wants from Huey and it wouldn’t have been the answer that most reporters or audiences wanted from McGruder.

“What is wrong with letting people be happy? Can too much hope possibly be a bad thing?” Herzog inquires.

“Hope is irrational,” Huey explains, but goes no further.

In turn, without the answer he actually craves, Herzog goes and interviews the rest of the series’ cast of less progressive characters. Grandpa sees Obama’s rise as a validation of his own peripheral role in the Civil Rights movement. Huey’s brother sees the rise of “Obeezy” as a personal license to ill. And other reactions, particularly those of Uncle Ruckus are even worse.

Huey is scapegoated as insufficiently on the bandwagon, as racist and regressive by extension, much to his chagrin.

In interviews and statements before and after the election, McGruder tried to make it clear that his fear and reservations were with the soiled office of the American Presidency, that he wasn’t pessimistic about Obama as a potential leader, but about the chance that any leader would be able to prevent the continued decline of the American Empire. Instead, the media reported that McGruder was claiming that Obama wasn’t black, that he didn’t believe in the man America was electing on his behalf. In the “Boondocks” premiere, McGruder isn’t so much clarifying his position as mocking the mainstream media’s treatment of his own ambivalence and the people they turned to in his absence.

And at times, the result is hilarious. The lampooning of opportunistic rappers and guilty middle class white voters is merciless and, in moments, spot-on.

It’s too bad it didn’t air a year ago.

marisacat - 3 May 2010

Instead, the media reported that McGruder was claiming that Obama wasn’t black…

hmm that last big graf does sum it up……………… Better to trash on dull trashville lines …thn dare a thought that the entire US Pretzelness is a joke.

Thanks to perfunctory arrestee / Dem retard Mike Stark…
this fine piece of astroturf on Alan Grayson… who has a “challenger”..

Alan Grayson has a challenger. Watch out for this guy…

Gawd. Stark.
Fightin Dem like Markos? Check.

?? – > Soooo dying to be paid Congressional Staff that he is hustling donate bar money for Grayson by recounting how he and his sister were raised in foster homes just like those the RW Homophobe Anti Gay Adoption “challenger* of Grayson’s opposes, and how that’s a top Alan priority and all ,, and how he wished he and HIS Sis had gay adoptive parents unlike Alan’s Challenger..who…and…see.. Alan’s gonna fight, see.. and Donate !

Some Words are in order here for Stark.
.
.
ATTENTION WHORE. Oh- and Ddddumb~Ass.

— >>> The “RW” “Indy” in Graysons district popped up just as “LW” Billionaire Jeffrey Greene LOL popped up to challenge Meek for the Dem Sen nod. And will likely run Indy if he doesn’t wipe Meeks ass out in the Primary…
LOL. Greene BTW is…Teh “Former” REPuBliCan$….LMAO – An HBS’r who done seen the light shorting subprime off an “idea” from Goldman conduit John Paulson.

The following has NOTHING to do with Meeks, a candy ass Momma’s Boy Nothing who inherited Mamma’s seat and AA machine …
he’s got 10 % of the vote to play with that’s it.
The White Boys – INCLUDING OB – 😆 – aren’t sending his ass to the Senate from Florida.
::

Almost Bottom Feeder’s Line…Greene –
{ Kiss of Electoral Death Joe Trippi is working for him}
Greene is a loaded with cash Rahm and Chuck recruited spoiler to help Charlie Crist – just as the frothing GOP’r that Mike Stark is raving mad about is there running as an Indy to split the R vote against Grayson.

We are so owned.
Without proportional representation U.S. elections truly are farce.
Which isn’t to say Parliamentary Systems are devoid of the
“Choose WHICH Shitheel you “Prefer” Syndrome…
But without it? Not even close.. The system is rigged.

I’m sure we’ll see Bullshit Artist Grayson out on the stump sooner or later with Greene…them both slobbering on about their plans to “Reform” Wall Street …

My early bets – CGAF – ya lose either way – Grayson gets re-elected. Meeks no way no how is going to get elected Sen. in Florida.
Whether he survives the Billionaire mauling prepared for him in the Primary or not.

And here , forlorn Dems, …it doesn’t. really. matter.
LOL. As the DEM SEN SEAT was already SOLD. But here’s my .02.
I think Rubio loses and Crist wins either way.- no one else seems to think so- But If Meeks survives the Dem primary,
and hobbles to the GE with that proctoscope of Green’s still hanging out his ass, then Crist wins Sen. especially so if Green doesn’t run Indy after D Primary. While Greene – yet another Goldman conduit- collects all sorts of chits . From EVERYBODY BUT Meeks and the AA he’s trying to broker.

If Greene wins the Primary… well fuck, the Dems are flat out running the Goldman Sachs Mob candidate. Advantage Crist again in the 3 way..Crist keeps his retainers plus swing voters.

But in all this backwash, Grayson supplants Liebershnitzel as the next new First Jewish Guy to Be MenschPretzel material. He’s so clearly designed as the PTB fallback position on “Populist” “outrage”, slated to be the new Black in political fashion this coming decade, not to mention people having the shits of Israel.

Co-opt and collude. Old as dirt.
And as for Mike Stark?
Despite being a star struck ,dumb as a stump goof, he seems to have found haven once again, for in political foster care, there is always room for cheaply fed pretense, In Stark’s pumping Grayson’s case presently, it’s the sad ole Astroturf that almost makes you wanna cry.

Raines th 40 year environmental investigative reporter whose pieces have been appearing at Al.COM – Mobile’s Press-Register …. covers the lack of fire booms as well.

The one they got a hold of was used on the 28th…:

If U.S. officials had followed up on a 1994 response plan for a major Gulf oil spill, it is possible that the spill could have been kept under control and far from land.

The problem: The federal government did not have a single fire boom on hand.

The “In-Situ Burn” plan produced by federal agencies in 1994 calls for responding to a major oil spill in the Gulf with the immediate use of fire booms.

In the days after the rig sank, U.S Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry said the government had all the assets it needed. She did not discuss why officials waited more than a week to conduct a test burn. (Watch video footage of the test burn.)

….

At the time, former National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration oil spill response coordinator Ron Gouguet — who helped craft the 1994 plan — told the Press-Register that officials had pre-approval for burning. “The whole reason the plan was created was so we could pull the trigger right away.”

Gouguet speculated that burning could have captured 95 percent of the oil as it spilled from the well.

Bohleber said that his company was bringing several fire booms from South America, and he believed the National Response Center discovered that it had one in storage. …

Well who knows… it says the fire booms have to be used in under 3 feet of “seas’, waves… but as I recall the area was much calmer weather wise in the first few days… some rain, overcast skies… but not the choppy seas of the past few days…

diane - 4 May 2010

wow…………………..the only thing we ever seem prepared for is destruction of something. Wonder how long it’s been, if ever, that they had the fire booms on hand? Certainly right after Katrina……right……..

marisacat - 4 May 2010

I notice that neither Google nor Yahoo News are bothering to pick up Southern (well hardly, they stick to one or two in FL or the AJC or a couple papers in the Carolinas, if they bother at all) nor Gulf area media… UK Times carried the fire boom story, a truncated version of the Raines piece at the Mobile Press Register, but I found it by going to the TimesOnline.

I imagine if the fire boom story is incorporated into a big Northern paper, it appears at the end of some big round up piece…

marisacat - 4 May 2010

My guess is there is a ton of infighting… for all sorts of reasons. US government vs BP (who also have leverage because of the absence of fire booms and god knows what other deficiencies and neglect on the part of Federal emergency response) … Obby trying to say he is Just Head Overseer…. don’t call me, call my secretary…

And it explains why Thad Allen has looked at a slow burn fr a few days. Landry took the fall… but I am guessing the lack of fire booms was something the CG was a part of, aware of, etc. May have had primary responsibility for … who knows.

We are very screwed.

marisacat - 4 May 2010

Business Week

BP has lost almost $23 billion in market value since the Transocean Ltd. rig it was leasing, the Deepwater Horizon, exploded and caught fire above the Macondo well 41 miles (66 kilometers) from the Louisiana coast. BP has a 65 percent stake in the well, and Anadarko has a 25 percent interest.

Anadarko, based in The Woodlands, Texas, has declined 13 percent since the BP spill. Geneva-based Transocean, the world’s largest offshore oil driller, has tumbled 21 percent.

Pressure-Control Device

Cameron International Corp., the Houston-based maker of a subsea pressure-control device designed to prevent a blowout on the Deepwater Horizon, fell 13 percent the day after its role in the drilling project was reported by Bloomberg.

Anadarko, which operates the biggest floating natural-gas platform in the Gulf, boosted its deep-water exploration prospects by 25 percent in 2009 and expects to add to that inventory this year, Patterson said.

…snip…

A commenter who signed on at Sky Truth said there are plans to drill 5 miles from the Venice Lagoon.

marisacat - 4 May 2010

oh and this…………………… don’t we look just SHITTY? [sh*tty!] And you know, let’s haul out PERSONAL RESPONSILITBY TOO.

When federal officials called, Elastec/American Marine, shipped the only boom it had in stock, Jeff Bohleber, chief financial officer for Elastec, said today.

At federal officials’ behest, the company began calling customers in other countries and asking if the U.S. government could borrow their fire booms for a few days, he said.

Oh Daddy can I borrow a fire boom? We were too cheap to store any and now 4 states might have oil drenched coasts.

Obama and Elie Wiesel to have lunch

President Barack Obama will have lunch with Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel tomorrow, a couple weeks after Wiesel took out full page ads in the Washington Post, International Herald Tribune and Wall Street Journal urging the Obama administration to ease up on pressuring the Israeli government on the issue of construction in East Jerusalem.

Obama and Wiesel will have lunch in Obama’s private dining room, Obama’s schedule for tomorrow says.

The lunch comes as Obama spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today, and as Obama’s Middle East peace envoy George Mitchell arrived back in the region to try to start U.S. mediated indirect proximity talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. The Arab League endorsed the Palestinians going into the talks at a meeting in Cairo over the weekend.

The administration’s public response intensified dramatically last Thursday when the magnitude of the spill became apparent, and then again Saturday, when Adm. Thad Allen, the U.S. Coast Guard commander, was named “national incident commander.” The administration announced a Deepwater Horizon Incident Joint Information Center, with its own Twitter feed and Facebook page to help keep threatened communities in the loop.

Hate to post and run (gotta listen to some more), but I’ll check back in soon.

Surprise!

Louisiana Oil Spill: Feds Gave Safety Prize to Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon – Deepwater Horizon Workers Did Hip-Hop Safety Dance Aboard the Oil Rig

By MATTHEW MOSK, AVNI PATEL and RHONDA SCHWARTZ
May 4, 2010

The federal agency charged with enforcing safety on deepwater oil rigs has also played a major role in promoting the industry’s claim that it is safe, and in 2009 handed out one of its top prizes for safety to Transocean’s Deepwater Horizon.

Transocean’s safety effort included two dance videos……. The Deepwater Horizon exploded last week, killing 11 and unleashing what could become one of the worst oil spill disasters in the nation’s history.

The Minerals Management Service, which falls under the U.S. Department of Interior, touts the recipients in government press releases and hosts an awards luncheon at a lavish industry association conference in Houston. This year’s luncheon was scheduled for Monday before it was abruptly canceled.

…. a statement released on the conference web site says. ” The MMS will announce an alternative plan during the next several weeks.”

One element of Transocean’s safety campaign was a campy, and now somewhat macabre, music video that was filmed on the decks of the Deepwater Horizon rig. The video uses hip-hop songs to encourage workers to “keep your hands clear” while performing tasks. In one scene, workers in red jump suits dance on the platform’s helipad.

A second video shows Transocean President and COO Steven Newman making good on a promise to do a dance if the India division had the best safety record in the company two years in a row. Newman and backup dancers perform to the sounds of music from an Indian movie at a company meeting in Mumbai in February 2009.

MMS has a checkered past with respect to its oversight role. In 2008, it was caught up in a scandal in which the Department of Interior’s inspector general found that regulators had “inappropriate relationships with industry that could compromise their objectivity,” relationships that allegedly included sharing alcohol at industry functions, using drugs, and sexual relationships.

In March, the former Minerals Management Service director, Randall Luthi, was named president of the National Ocean Industries Association, an offshore drilling association. “I am honored to have this opportunity to represent the NOIA membership and excited by the upcoming challenge of working to impact policies favorable to the offshore energy industry,” Luthi said in a press release.

we probably have to count ourselves lucky that no one went ahead and gave BP their safety award (hey i was just ONE rig! stuff happens!)… this past weekend I thnk it was set for. Whooops.

….just a thought, however fleeting, …..the thing, most vicious, ……….in the dance videos,…….. is the scorn….THE SCORN………………… of something so ancient, …. and life renewing, ……..as dance………….

diane - 4 May 2010

yeah…. dance

no, not at all: Dancing with the Stars ,

but actual dance, rather zany and lonely, yet joyous,…not self conscious,

so many, many times….

I notice that neither Google nor Yahoo News are bothering to pick up Southern ….nor Gulf area media…

This page of a UK news aggregator shows a fairly wide variety of sources. I use their site a lot, there are some quirky things once in while, like old articles that pop up as being new, and the news source noted being incorrect, but overall, I find it pretty useful, and I can always hop to Yahoo News, etc…. from the site, I never use Google News anymore.

marisacat - 4 May 2010

oh thanks for that!!

diane - 4 May 2010

you’re so welcome! I’m poking around to see if I can find any of those AL articles. One thing I like, is that no cookies or scripting is required (though I may be missing a few options doing that), you can set your security features high, and still use the site.

marisacat - 4 May 2010

it’s Ben Raines at http://www.al.com which is the Mobile Press Register. ABC GMA finally mentioned his articles this am, on the amount of spew and on the lack of burn booms…

my reply is in spam, you’re welcome again though!

When companies become too big to fail and humaneness and life become rather insignificant. Treated as an enormous favor done, when they are taken into consideration, as if undeserved.

Lawsuit: Oil workers kept at sea hours after explosion

MIAMI — Three workers forced to escape on life rafts after an explosion aboard an offshore drilling platform claimed in a lawsuit Tuesday that they were kept floating at sea for more than 10 hours while the rig burned uncontrollably.

“After these guys were pulled off the rig, they were kept in lifeboats for over 10 hours and saw the whole thing burn. They knew their friends were still on that rig burning,” said Kurt Arnold, the Houston-based attorney who filed the lawsuit on the men’s behalf. “They couldn’t call anyone at home and say they were OK.”

Guy Cantwell, a spokesman for rig owner Transocean Ltd., defended the company’s response to a disaster some 50 miles off the Louisiana coast.

“One-hundred and fifteen people got off this rig alive,” he said.

snip, snapped

Most people would hope folks got off the rig alive Mr. Cantwell ……

And they report that drilling has started on the relief well. (mark your calendars, … sometime in August on a best scenario!) Then they have to pour in concrete to shut off the spew. GOOD LUCK!

And BP (T-Shirts being made in LA, saying: BP Bringing oil to America’s shores!) says one of the containment domes is nearly ready! Everybody gather round to watch something never done before!

Remember the under sea robotics that failed and failed… then failed? And failed? They were supposed to be able to “sew stitches in your forehead”. ???????????

Glad we missed that accident.

Everybody gather round to watch something never done before! -mcat

Ain’t it the trute? Place your bets folks on the kind of cockamamie engineering that is trotted forward. I’m partial to my idea of course, “The Jersey Plan”.

Just tow huge barges of medical waste out and shovel the shit off . Pretty much it.

–> BUT with the advantage of ensnarling the oil in medical waste composite Sea Walls that will not only survive us and
Global Warming and offer the hopeful benefit of producing MUTANTS. (Always gotta have a Plan B.)

marisacat - 4 May 2010

I have read such divergent descriptions of the “containment boxes” or “domes”, that my head spins.

I think the headlines of the last couple days…

– Domes almost done! watch us lower a 100 ton (latest weight! we offer 34 ton, 50 ton and 74 ton versions!) down farther than ever before!… and siphon higher and longer than ever before!

– Relief well drilling begun, watch us drill, as far down as!… 13 Empire State Buildings! (that’s halfway to China kiddies!)

– Watch us do magick with submersibles!

– Dispersants! We got dispersants! Yes We Can! (and we were with Obby at the Business ROundtable at the WH just yesterday, yes we were, we’re really best friends! Of course we are! All for one and one for all! Ob is our Knob… )

And so on, is that perhaps the share price of the parties involved is getting a little scary. Lower than the betting allowed.

I mean, who the fuck knows.

A segment tonight on local news was up at th Exxon Valdez, the herring fishing never came back and had been a big cash fishing enterprise. Three times the income of salmon fishing. And they still have oil, a lot of it, in places it should not be. 21 years later.

marisacat - 4 May 2010

I am really concerned about Obama’s mojo. They need the seas to lower in the gulf. They really do.

And in that famous speech the night he accepted the nom he said, he would lower the seas. And cure the sick. Heal th poor.

(he really did, I printed it out here enough to know).

So, how much alcohol is in his patent medicine shit?

Smoking Car to an Arrest in 53 Hours

New York Times – William K. Rashbaum, Al Baker – ‎52 minutes ago

The keys found in the ignition of the sport utility vehicle that was left to explode in Times Square on Saturday evening did more than just start cars: one opened the front door to Faisal Shahzad’s home.

they’ll never give up their camaras… it is like Jesus returned to earth. And as Schneier says, it makes good TV, whcih they want… Basically we saw a guy change his shirt and someone drive the pathfinder into TSq.

But I am sure loads of people think the film led to the arrest. Such as it is …………

Faisal seems almost too dumb for the job… but hardly news.

Oh Yes, It’s Devo: An Interview with Jerry Casale

VR: Going back to your early days. You were present at the Kent State shootings in 1970. How did that day affect you?

JC: Whatever I would say, would probably not all touch upon the significance or gravity of the situation at this point of time? It may sound trite or glib. All I can tell you is that it completely and utterly changed my life. I was white hippie boy and than I saw exit wounds from M1 rifles out of the backs of two people I knew. Two of the four people who were killed, Jeffrey Miller and Allison Krause, were my friends. We were all running our asses off from these motherf&*$#ers. It was total utter bullshit. Live ammunition and gasmasks – none of us knew, none of us could have imagined. They shot into a crowd that was running. I sopped being a hippie and I started to develop the idea of devolution. I got real, real pissed off.

VR: Does Neil young’s “Ohio” strike close to your heart?

JC: Of course. It was strange that the first person that we met, as Devo emerged, was Neil Young. He asked us to be in his movie, Human Highway. It was so strange – San Francisco in 1977. Talk about life being karmic, small and cyclical – it’s absolutely true. In fact I just a got a call from a person organizing a 30th Anniversary thing. Noam Chomsky will be there and I may go talk there if I can get away. I still remember it so crystal clear like a dream you will never forget…….. or a nightmare. I still remember every moment. It kind of went in slow motion like a car accident.

VR: You said that the Kent State shooting sort of served as a catalyst for your theory of Devolution, which spawned Devo.

JC: Absolutely. Until then I was a hippie. I thought that the world is essentially good. If people were evil, there was justice and that the law mattered. All of those silly naïve things. I saw the depths of the horrors and lies and the evil. In the paper that evening, the Akron Beacon Journal, said that students were running around armed and that officers had been hurt. So deputy sheriffs went out and deputized citizens. They drove around with shotguns and there was martial law for ten days. 7 PM curfew. It was open season the students. We lived in fear. Helicopters surrounding the city with hourly rotating runs out to the West Side and back downtown. All first amendment rights are suspended at the instance when the governor gives the order. All of the class action suits by the parents of the slain students were all dismissed out of court because once the governor announced martial law, they had no right to assemble.

Poll: Crist Takes Lead In Three-Way Florida Senate Race
Eric Kleefeld | May 4, 2010, 1:55PM

The new Rasmussen poll of Florida shows Republican-turned-independent Gov. Charlie Crist taking a narrow lead in the three-way Senate race since he bolted the GOP.

The numbers: Crist 38%, Republican Marco Rubio 34%, and Democrat Kendrick Meek 17%.

Two weeks ago, before Crist officially left the Republican Party to run as an independent, Rubio led with 37%, with Crist at 30% and Meek at 22%.

The big question is whether this is just a temporary bump, with Crist benefitting from the publicity of his party switch and Meek losing support, or if it will be a long-lasting change to the nature of the race.

Big Question . Sure. So say Josh Marshall’s Blog Twinkies @ TPM.

My contention is…. the race. is already. BROKERED.
