Smoke, a 39-year-old harbour seal at the New England Aquarium, is presented with a special present for her birthday Picture: SPLASH

I don’t think there are any seals, otters, sea lions in the warm waters of the Gulf.. but the photo seems oddly appropriate. A few weeks ago, around week two of this mess, a caller to the local talk radio said, if Obby REALLY wanted to do something to help, he should send an ark down to the Gulf, to collect 2 by 2, of all that will be gone.

Caller was right.

****

I can’t wait for Barack Obama to become president.

Watching the latest tragedy unfold in the Gulf this last month, all I can say is: I can’t wait for Barack Obama to become president.

This Bush guy is such a disaster, literally and figuratively. It just seems that the destruction of America he presides over is all but endless. As if one Gulf Coast disaster left to rot in the sun wasn’t enough for this president, now comes a second. What did those folks in New Orleans ever do to him? Heck, what did Americans ever do to him?

I just can’t wait any longer for the new administration to take office. They are absolutely guaranteed to handle things so much differently than the Cheney Bots in the White House who seem intent on wrecking the whole world, with their charity beginning at home.

Look at this oil spill disaster, for example.

To start with, Barack Obama would never pick a guy like Ken Salazar for the crucial environmental position of Secretary of the Interior. Of course Bush would, though. Salazar has been deeply tied to mining and ranching industries his entire career – just the kind of corporate hack Cheney would insist on for the position. In fact, Salazar was even a big supporter of his predecessor, the corrupt industry shill, Gale Norton. After all the work environmentalists put into getting Obama elected, there’s no way he’d choose someone like Salazar for this position, a guy so lame that mining association lobbyists welcomed the appointment when Bush made it. What does that tell you? Of course, Salazar has turned out – just as you’d expect – to be the “Heckuva Job, Kenny” of the oil spill. This will never happen once Obama gets in and puts a real environmentalist atop the Interior Department.
…snip…

The country elected some billiard ball, off the corporate pool table…

As I see it.

“It is also important to note that while we were hopeful that the top kill would succeed,” he said, “we were also mindful that there was a significant chance it would not. And we will continue to pursue any and all responsible means of stopping this leak until the completion of the two relief wells currently being drilled.”

it was almost freakish bad luck that Rahm used Bill C.. the mere mention of that name is bad luck… esp right now.

And of course Bill C, Teddy (mercifully fucking dead now) and Rahm have been tight as thieves for a few cycles now, in influencing and rigging and jiggering elections…

the donks are really good at being their own worst enemies.

marisacat - 29 May 2010

ugh… Toby Harnden in the Telegraph has disliked Obby from minute one, I never bothered to read him enough to sort out the particular reason… not surprised he is lashing out…. but if this is true….

Woe be to the Democrats. And their leader.

By Friday, he was sticking his finger in the sand at Grand Isle, Louisiana as part of a photo op self-consciously designed to contrast with Bush’s famous looking down on the Katrina devastation from Air Force One. It was Obama’s second visit to Louisiana in the 39 days since disaster struck.

According to NBC’s Mark Knoller, in the same period Bush visited the post-Katrina region seven times. ….

Lean principles move from factory floor to clinic

Industrial concepts help make health care more productive

I guess that’s supposed to be a good thing.

At Children’s Hospital and Health System’s orthopedic center in Greenfield, the staff now sees the same volume of patients in three hours that it once saw in four, and patients spend 70% less time flipping through the magazines in its waiting rooms.

See, it’s GOOD for you patients!

The book – “Lean Doctors: A Bold and Practical Guide to Using Lean Principles to Transform Healthcare Systems, One Doctor at a Time” – uses the orthopedic center as an example of how health care systems and physician practices can draw on the principles of so-called lean manufacturing to become more productive.

Health care systems throughout Milwaukee – as well as the state and the country – have used the same principles and other techniques honed in manufacturing to revamp their operations.

Children’s Hospital’s orthopedic center would rank among the successes, given the roughly 25% increase in productivity.

aww gee, it was stated that folks would find out why Obama has a hush hush appointment at Carnegie Mellon University this coming Wednesday, in Saturday’s Pittsburgh Post Gazette ……

The purpose and details of the event were not immediately announced.

More details in tomorrow’s {Saturday, May 29 d.] Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

oh well

did find this ghastly piece though, so I guess the revisit was worth the effort, a perfect example of why Health Care should not be tied to Capitalism:

UPMC’s overseas operations blossomed in 14 years

and jus loved the following data, gleaned from a comment on this letter to the ‘press’:

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) , received $346,776,838 in DOD money from 2000 to 2009

Oh this should be fun.
Ob takes flight to the burnt out Province of Pittsburgh.
Ignoramusland with a storied NFL franchise and Carnegie Libraries for the Illiterati.

But, and I say this with all optimism, it’s a place where the celebratory crap of trickle down techno tricuits falling off for local breadcrumbs @ CMU..
– and UPMC’s – LOL – heralded model of “innovative” ,
“Non Profit” {LMAO!} Health Care Behemothtry .. NO LONGER WORKS.

Surely FuckUsWe’reBroke~burgh awaits for Ob, and his “purpose”,
to be……ANNOUNCED!!

I’d say order the full bowel prep anticipating this voiding.
What is now like concrete shit thru going thru the goosed,
the strained recitation of the creed,
The much hoped for relief and hyped proletarian prospects of yet another bulbous …”oppurtiniteh”** , with some VC green techno slobber thown in over at CMU. Older than dirt.
With any luck there’ll be a riot.

The Dems are in heavy panic, I can tell from the themes being pushed at KGO… and the host on right now is frantic.

Good luck is all I can say.

Th major kick back is

And what would YOU have him do?

Or

Would you prefer Palin?

Or

and this is really speshul:

Where in the constitution does it say he fixes oil leaks?

(mother of god, such dumb fucks… bad operative!, down operative!)

Dems in .heavy panic..bad operative!, down operative! – mcat

LOL. If you can find one, the thing to use is a newspaper.
Now they’ll still pee, but it seems to be corralling them into an ever smaller space. Completely humane too, just a mere mention of a news outlet on Obbie seems to herd them yelping to the urinary corner.
Certain terms , perhaps evoking smell, seem to work as well:
“Dead Flounder Democrats” ,for instance.

marisacat - 30 May 2010

magazines work too, a little harder than news print… but fine for thugs.

I loved skewering him back in the day. Still do.

😆
And If you think his piece doesn’t make sense ,
dig this commment.

Good read. (14+ / 0-)

I think your analysis is better than Weisburg’s, so far as you presented his views anyhow. I think that the Tea Party movement is uniting the GOP’s base; although I’m not so sure if race is the key motivating factor.

However, I do think that race is a strong factor, perhaps one of the chief ones. I guess for me I’d rather think that their motivation comes from an entirely different world view, mostly centered around economics and the role of the state, rather than race. I could be wrong.

Thanks for writing this.

To whom it may concern: I am an American citizen. Not an American consumer. I am a human being, not a variable in the capitalist system.

by FinchJ on Sat May 29, 2010 at 09:55:41 PM PDT

Loose Translation: Luv ya. Better than Weisburg. Using Weisburg. Weisburgs kids prolly think your Weisburg. Whoever Weisburg is. Hell, I bet you ARE Weisburg you’re that good.

And this gem, which is word for connected word.

“…although I’m not so sure if race is the key motivating factor.
However, I do think that race is a strong factor,”

Jeezis. How dense in one comment.

Oil spill vessels would scatter if tropical storm approaches

By Sheila Grissett, The Times -Picayune
May 29, 2010, 10:59PM

A fire drill-like scramble is under way to figure out how, if a hurricane approaches, to decontaminate and evacuate the armada of vessels and army of people amassed to fight the Macondo oil well spill in the Gulf of Mexico

Emergency planners are asking and struggling to answer questions that were unthinkable before BP’s Deepwater Horizon blowout on April 20. In the face of an oncoming storm, how long would it take to clean everything touched by oil — booms, boats, skimmers, heavy equipment, everything contaminated — and then get it trailered and hauled away before it’s too late.

“This is absolutely not in our hurricane plan,” said Jefferson Parish homeland security chief Deano Bonano, who said the prospect of a tropical storm mixing it up with the largest oil spill in United States history on Louisiana’s coastal stoop is a science fiction-like scenario never envisioned. “It’s just too large a scale, too incomprehensible to get your arms around.”

BP and the Coast Guard estimate that 8,000 people using at least 1,300 vessels are working on the oil leak, cleanup and protection…snip…

Well………………………. “I am a Gay-American” … McGreevey, where it was really important to throw up a blind over Cipel, who in all likelihood was an Israeli operative of some kind… in NJ and appointed to the state homeland security spot under a Dem governor….

and here in SF wehre for YEARS post 9/11 we had a legacy appointee, a R woman…. a nepotism recipient under a former R mayor, and still being assisted by Gavin… she was in cahrge of the city and county wide emergency response… for years she blew off meetings, did not take phone calls.. to get her out ALONE, took over 3 years.

Ah yes, if only all the little burgs and towns and cities cared more… if only they did, they might have plans in place. The Feds too…

For years there was tons of money shipped into towns and districts for “security”. Everybody has a swat team tanker now, or several….

BooHooHooMan - 30 May 2010

I heard a real pukeworthy puff piece on the radio the other day for some County Sheriff running for re-election..Who had “a tough year” with a high profile child murder… Who, despite mounting criticism doesn’t want to “deprive the people” of his “service”.
Exact words, Pulled over, wrote em down, mouth agape.

Cited conversion of — wait for it – “a bookmobile into a mobile command center” as one of his achievements.

With any luck the local mahoffs will get strung up along with the objects of their envy, the higher ups in the State and Federal rackets.
