I gather Obby said today that “after clean-up the area will bounce back”.

This, I want to see… and I bet Gulf residents would like to see that…

“Deadliest” day in Afghanistan – 10 NATO dead, 7 of them US soldiers.

Reporting from Kabul, Afghanistan — Ten NATO troops, including seven U.S. soldiers, were killed Monday in Afghanistan in the deadliest day for coalition forces so far this year.

Five of the Americans were killed in a roadside bomb attack in eastern Afghanistan, U.S. military officials said. Two U.S. soldiers were killed in the country’s volatile south, one in a bombing and the other by small-arms fire.

No further information was available on the three soldiers from other countries.

According to the website icasualties.org, which keeps track of U.S. and North Atlantic Treaty Organization troop deaths in Afghanistan, 245 international troops have been killed in the country this year, 153 of them American. Last year, 520 international troops were killed in Afghanistan; 316 were Americans.

And of course untold numbers of Afghanis and Pakistanis…

marisacat - 7 June 2010

hmm apparently it is 11, ELEVEN, US soldiers killed in two days.

And a couple of contractors down in Kandahar.

Yes it is all going so well.

Senator: Deepwater Well Integrity May Be Shot, Meaning Oil Could Be Leaking Straight Up From The Seabed

Joe Weisenthal | Jun. 7, 2010, 4:26 PM | 2,116 | 20

This may be the real nightmare scenario in the Gulf.

Some have speculated that the inner integrity of the Deepwater well could be blown (not just the top) and that oil could be leaking out from the side, making it hard to imagine how you might go about plugging the thing.

On MSNBC today, Senator Ben Nelson said he’d heard such report, and is looking into such things. Let’s hope not. The following clip comes from FireDogLake. ..snip…

So Helen is no longer among the White House Press Snores.
What are there? Two maybe three worth half a damn anymore?
No one like Helen Thomas tho.

I think the sucklings left should just cast lots for her replacement.
And make no bones about the implementation of Newspeak.
Or Maybe vote on a Designated Jerkoff Jew for Israel to sit up front. And they should just sit right back when it’s their turn to get run over.

Of course, All the predictable shitstains are looking for their chance to turn the knife. Lanny Davis and Ari Fleischer hopped right in. I’m sure Carp Lips Dershowitz is having a field day along with the slew of mouthpieces at all the tax dodging Zionist Orgs…

I’m so sick of Zionist Jews in the US.
And in the professions? Law , Medicine, Journalism. Licensed to steal, Professional NeoCon thieves, 8 out of ten.

There’s a neighborhood asshole ,
a self styled “Liberal” “enviro” whatev, unabashed Zionist Dem, who gives everybody shit about using too much compost for Dead Rabbi Splinter Group Guy’s sake.

A real fucking jerkoff, so so SO Enviro that he’s concerned about compost levels now… Loves Barry. “Was Smart of him” to put Rahm in as CoS. When he walks his dog by my house he calls out from the road. If I get through the summer with out axing him to death it will be a miracle. Anyways, Unable to avoid him the other day he shout/asked what I used on the greenery as it looked too green. I told him “Nothing but BP Products, ________.”

*** But here’s the kicker:
He said: “Don’t knock BP . They’re doing all they can do. I have alot BP stock, and the way that Ed Shultz is going on about it on the TV…” I shouted back to him flat out, “Well , ___, then I guess we should all bust YOU in the mouth along with their brass and the stock.”
It was better than hitting him with the shovel, frankly. At least for me.
He took his dog down the street to crap near an older couple’s well-head.
Like he always does.

I used to talk to him, if I was up by the house I’d go down the walk etc. No more. Can’t and Won’t. Not since the Rahm comment shortly after the election. I wish I could move my house BACK another 100 feet.

Famous final words: They are doing all they can.

Which Rahm comment?

marisacat - 7 June 2010

Why there’s a Hero from the Sly Con Valley area (in addition to Arlington, VA, Boston, DC, Columbia ……..) who just wanted to do the right thing, consequently:

“A growing part of the Obama legacy”

Yesterday it was revealed by Wired that the Army intelligence officer analyst who reportedly leaked the Apache helicopter attack video to Wikileaks — and thus enabled Americans to see what we are really doing in Iraq and other countries which we occupy and attack — has been arrested (Wikileaks denies the part of that report claiming that the whistle blower also leaked to it “hundreds of thousands of classified State Department records”). This latest episode led Der Spiegel today to decry Obama’s “war on whistle blowers” as more severe than the one waged by the Bush administration (English translation here).

Obama to Reopen Oil Drilling

Wall Street Journal – Laura Meckler, Jonathan Weisman – ‎53 minutes ago‎

What can you say?

Also, tomorrow is World Oceans Day.

diane - 7 June 2010

No worries! Everything’s under tight control, here’s a perfect example:

Retired U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, who heads the federal response, said BP’s latest emergency containment system is on track to capture as much as 15,000 barrels of oil per day, which is the maximum amount of oil the drill ship on the surface can process. BP’s latest update on the rate of recovery late Monday implies that the containment procedure is approaching that limit. Any leakage beyond 15,000 barrels per day will continue to go into the sea until a second ship arrives, likely in mid-June.”

Israelis find who to blame for Flotilla fiasco: Arab Knesset Members
Posted: June 7th, 2010 |
Author: noam

House Committee recommended revoking special privileges from Arab MK Hanin Zoabi. Other Arab MKs received threats from public and house members alike

Today, Israelis took their anger and frustration over the disastrous raid on the Gaza-bound flotilla on Arab Members of Knesset.

The Knesset’s House Committee recommended revoking special privileges from Arab MK Hanin Zoabi, who was on the Mavi Marmara. Though it was never claimed that MK Zoabi had anything to do with the attack on the soldiers, and she definitely didn’t break any law by boarding the ship in Turkey, the decision against her was passed by a majority of seven to one, with only MK Ilan Gilon of Meretz opposing it.

During the debate, Committee Chairman Yariv Levin from Netanyahu’s Likud party expelled . from the room Both MK Gilon and Hadash Jewish MK Dov Khenin who tried to defend Zoabi. Gilon later returned to take part in the vote (Khenin is not a committee member).

Haaretz reports:

The Knesset committee recommended rescinding from Zuabi three key privileges usually granted to Knesset Members. One is the privilege to exit the country – which is supposed to prevent Zoabi from fleeing Israel if she commits a felony or has debts in Israel.

Another privilege is carrying a diplomatic passport, which according to the Knesset’s legal adviser, is a privilege that does not grant diplomatic immunity so revoking it would not make it more difficult for Zuabi to fulfill her duties.

The third privilege is the right to have the Knesset cover litigation fees of an MK if he or she is put on trial.

The revocation of Zuabi’s privileges is conditional on the approval of the Knesset plenum.

Zuabi has been receiving death threats in recent days, and there was even a Facebook group calling to execute her. She became the first MK to have bodyguards escorting her even inside the Knesset, after last week several Knesset members tried to prevent her from speaking, and came near to physically attacking her, as can be seen in this video:

Arab MK Ahmed Tibi also received death threats today. An anonymous called told his that “your days are numbered. If a beloved Prime Minister was murdered, what’s killing you compared to that?”. You can here the threats (in Hebrew) on the audio player in this report. Notice the comments to the article, many of them claiming Tibi “deserves it”. Arab MK Taleb el-Sana received today death threats by fax. There was also a Facebook group calling to burn him.

You don’t have to look far in order to find the people inciting the public against the Arab MKs. This morning, all Arab Knesset members received a letter from their colleague MK Michael Ben-Ari – a known racist and the student of the late Rabi Meir Kahana, whose movement, Kach, was outlawed both in Israel and in the US – informing them that:

“Tomorrow the Knesset committee will decide on revoking the immunity of the Knesset Members who are collaborating with the enemy. The first debate will be regarding your friend MK Zoabi, who led the terror flotilla to Gaza.

“After we deal with her your turn will come! The people had enough with the use of Israeli democracy to destroy the state. Tomorrow it will be Zoabi, and next week yourselves!”

Why is this “breaking” news on the CNN crawl: “WH supports legislation stripping caps on liability for oil companies”?

Did I miss something? Is that new news? I thought that was a given…

no, it’s new old news.

13. catnip - 7 June 2010

Confused shills over at dkos: last week they were so proud of Obamalama not showing any emotion (what? you want him to be an “angry black man??”) Now that a clip with his interview with Lauer has him saying that he plans on kicking ass has come out, they’re proud that he’s being an angry black man.

marisacat - 8 June 2010

Snicker: they go with the wind.

14. marisacat - 8 June 2010

And then there are the people who do do “body counts”…

15. marisacat - 8 June 2010

I am thinking Obby may not go to the Gulf again, or not anytime soon. He’ll try to manage the Gulf Hostage Situation… from the WH.

The anger is rising… and rising. Along the Gulf and with Our Leader!! I am jsut catching snatches of his interview ith Matt Lauer.

He DOES do angry (a little bit!) over what is said about him, that much is certain:

I was so too down there talkin’ to the fishermen, before these pundits EVEN KNEW OR CARED.

Baloney, he went down there first on May 2 (I only know this as some apparatchik on KGO tried to say he “was down there two days later”. So I looked it up.. uh, no) … They all spent 12 days in cahoots with BP, accepting, believing, planning that some oil in the Gulf would not get all over Obby.

Good luck Chuck.

I am thinking he does nto even run in 2012. Nto that he really wants to…

marisacat - 8 June 2010

and it can get ever more pathetic… with video tids, teasers for his sit odwn with Mattie.

I would have fired BP chief by now, Obama says

msnbc.com – ‎18 minutes ago‎

President Barack Obama would have fired BP’s CEO Tony Hayward over controversial comments downplaying the Gulf oil spill – if the executive had been working for him. …snippy!snippy!…

yeah they told him to “get angry” and he got snippy.

They are just flailing around… trapped in woulda coulda shoulda.

marisacat - 8 June 2010

oh god… it gets worse IMMEDIATELY! They declare their independence from BP by claiming 4,000 + gallons more/less per day.

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen told a White House briefing Monday that a cap on the damaged oil well is now keeping up to 462,000 gallons of oil a day from leaking into the Gulf, up sharply from previous amounts.

But his figures conflicted slightly with BP’s numbers. In a statement, BP put the amount being captured at 466,200 gallons.

Allen said the government was using its own flow-rate calculations and no longer wanted to rely on those from BP.

Meanwhile at the wildlife center, cleaning the pelicans, they say the cries of the babies, being blown driy after 5 and 6 bathings, so their downy soft baby feathers get to breathe again… those cries are for their parents… And teh reason the older birds, when released in Florida, are more likely to return to Louisiana, is to return ot the nests and the babies.

The media is catching hell for covering the plight of the birds, but as is often the case, denied access, and choosing least resistance, a story they DO cover becomes a grand metaphor for the whole.

Which is what I said about the media and “Breck Girl” and his tonsorial costs. It was a lot easier than breaking the story of Rielle (which was mostly secret) OR explaining his hedge fund association (not a secret), with Fortress. He was so fucking deep in “poor washing”… his hair was the perfect version of the story that needed to be told. Utter mockery.

Do I wish it was otherwise… yes I do. But it’s not.

BooHooHooMan - 8 June 2010

What a great comment, “revealing” to say the least.
We need more of it that’s for sure. Gives me hope, actually.
I mean, what happens when Truth is no longer discernible, however mediated?

diane - 8 June 2010

…..Allen told a White House briefing Monday that a cap on the damaged oil well is now keeping up to 462,000 gallons of oil a day from leaking into the Gulf….

jeesh, those figures are so yesterday hon, keep up!

The recently installed containment cap on the stricken BP wellhead is helping to limit the leak, collecting more than 620,000 gallons of oil Monday, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said Tuesday in Washington. Still, underwater video feeds continue to show a dark geyser.

marisacat - 8 June 2010

I can’t keep up! I am downing and I can’t get up!

(all too real)

diane - 8 June 2010

catnip - 8 June 2010

He DOES do angry (a little bit!) over what is said about him, that much is certain:

Just like when he reacted angrily to the hecklers at the Boxer fundraiser. He does not like criticism. And, like I said last week about his interview with Larry King, he couldn’t muster anything close to a facial expression representing “furious” when he said that was how he felt about the oil gusher. Nope. He only gets that angry when he’s challenged about his record.

16. marisacat - 8 June 2010

hmm finally it makes it to MSM, supposedly the rumor down in the Gulf is that after bankruptcy judge shopping, BP has found one to talk to in Houston…:

Voices at Wapo

Wall Street is starting to take a potential BP bankruptcy seriously, writes Andrew Ross Sorkin:

“The idea that BP might one day file for bankruptcy, particularly as part of a merger that would enable it to cordon off its liabilities from the spill, is starting to percolate on Wall Street. Bankers and lawyers are already sizing up potential deals (and counting their potential fees).

Given the plunge in BP’s share price – the company has lost more than a third of its value since Deepwater Horizon blew – some bankers and analysts say BP is starting to look like takeover bait. The question is, who would buy BP, given its enormous potential liabilities?”

hmm why not fill their tankards with oil and drink deeply? Chuggle it down.

BooHooHooMan - 8 June 2010

Welp I may have missed the call on Arlen,
(among others. just a few. LOL) but the BP headed for the bankruptcy shitter may redeem me long enough to see Libshits, the neighborhood asshole, lose half his retirement and see the Florida condo drop to dicko. Small comfort given the Environmental Holocaust. ( A term that should be used unapologetically) Small comfort when non stakeholders on the Gulf and plebes everywhere end up footing the bill.
Maybe Libshits will have to move back up to North Jersey to the duplex he rents to his mother and equally Assholish / Can’t Find A Job Out Of Law School son.

17. catnip - 8 June 2010

I don’t know why but my spidey senses tell me that Blanche Lincoln is going to win. Easier for me to believe that Halter will win but that’s what the intuition is saying…

BooHooHooMan - 8 June 2010

Oh shit 😆

(I just bet the house on Halter) 😆

So Lincoln it is!

catnip - 8 June 2010

Sorry! Just got the spidey sense yesterday. It’s kind of unpredictable.

I’m not sure what to think of this one though. I guess we’ll see..

18. catnip - 8 June 2010

Just noticed something watching that BP commerical: Hayward says there are 1300 boats. Obamalama, last week, said there were 1700. I remember that number because I thought the fact that the public doesn’t actually see boats en masse down there doesn’t help the WH PR effort (which they’ve screwed since day one…).

lol of the day: Obama talking to seniors about “senior scams”. You mean like the one where a guy running for president pretends to be “progressive” and turns out to be – well – Obama?

marisacat - 8 June 2010

and takes away the COLA for two years running, in a single fell swoop? That guy?

marisacat - 8 June 2010

There are NO numbers that add up in this fucked deal.

here is some amusement, at least.

catnip - 8 June 2010

He hasn’t spoken directly to Tony Hayward? WTF?

marisacat - 8 June 2010

yeah my thought was, and you think your polling numbers are bad now?

catnip - 8 June 2010

Mr Non-Confrontational. That’ll be his legacy.

catnip - 8 June 2010

And he’s such a whiner…stating that during his first visit he was down there in the rain. Well, nail him to a cross and call him Jeebus…such a martyr…getting rained on and all…

marisacat - 8 June 2010

Probably not perfect weather the day Martin was shot, either. Not enough air conditioning in the hall wehre Malcolm was shot. Probably muggy the day Medgar was shot.

Obama is such a bitcher. No other word for it.

19. marisacat - 8 June 2010

Oh yes, one of Obby’s promises, he would hew to the science of things.

Only if you fucking force the gov. Ws there an election?

From FOX News:

In the middle of May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) distanced itself from the claims of a university marine scientist who said she discovered massive oil plumes thousands of meters below the water’s surface. Today, Dr. Samantha Joye confirms not only does the plume exist; it will wreak havoc on the environment for months if not years.

“The system as a whole is substantially perturbed by this event. It’s infusion of oil and gas is unlike anything that has ever been seen anywhere – certainly in human history,” Joye said during a press conference today in Athens, Ga.

And at a news conference in Washington today, the NOAA administrator acknowledged those subsurface plumes for the first time.

Joye’s team of scientists has been monitoring a 15-mile long, 5-mile wide and 600 meter thick oil and gas plume suspended between 2-4 thousand feet below the water’s surface. It moves with the water’s current and the topography of the sea’s floor.

Her requests to obtain samples have been ignored.

“I and many others are trying to get samples of the various dispersant’s that are being used. I have been unable to secure any so far. And I know there are many other researchers that want to get samples of the various types of Corexit to do lab experiments with; so we are hopeful we will be able to get those dispersant’s but right now we haven’t been able to secure any.”

“The rig’s on fire! I told you this was gonna happen!”
— By Josh Harkinson
| Mon Jun. 7, 2010 3:00 AM PDT

A prominent Houston attorney with a long record of winning settlements from oil companies says he has new evidence suggesting that the Deepwater Horizon’s top managers knew of problems with the rig before it exploded last month, causing the worst oil spill in US history. Tony Buzbee, a lawyer representing 15 rig workers and dozens of shrimpers, seafood restaurants, and dock workers, says he has obtained a three-page signed statement from a crew member on the boat that rescued the burning rig’s workers. The sailor, who Buzbee refuses to name for fear of costing him his job, was on the ship’s bridge when Deepwater Horizon installation manager Jimmy Harrell, a top employee of rig owner Transocean, was speaking with someone in Houston via satellite phone. Buzbee told Mother Jones that, according to this witness account, Harrell was screaming, “Are you fucking happy? Are you fucking happy? The rig’s on fire! I told you this was gonna happen.”
