Just a thread… 22 June 2010

Gee did Obby find a SINGLE VERTEBRAE…

I was just reading this AP report:

Top general in Afghan war apologizes for profile

By ANNE GEARAN (AP) – 3 hours ago

WASHINGTON — The top U.S. war commander in Afghanistan apologized Tuesday for an interview in which he said he felt betrayed by the man the White House chose to be his diplomatic partner, Ambassador Karl Eikenberry.

The article in this week’s issue of Rolling Stone depicts Gen. Stanley McChrystal as a lone wolf on the outs with many important figures in the Obama administration and unable to convince even some of his own soldiers that his strategy can win the war.

In Kabul on Tuesday, McChrystal issued a statement saying: “I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and should never have happened.”

In Rolling Stone, McChrystal is described by an aide as “disappointed” in his first Oval Office meeting with an unprepared President Barack Obama. The article says that although McChrystal voted for Obama, the two failed to connect from the start. Obama called McChrystal on the carpet last fall for speaking too bluntly about his desire for more troops. snipsnap

When this arrived in the In box… not even time to make it to RS!!

marisacat - 22 June 2010

hmm I don’t see the article in question at RS, maybe jsut in the mag so far…

2. marisacat - 22 June 2010

People Mag is all over it however!

Top article has some bits:

[T]he article, titled “The Runaway General,” appears in the magazine later this week. It contains a number of jabs by McChrsytal and his staff aimed not only at the President but at Vice President Biden, special envoy Richard Holbrooke and others.

McChrystal described his first meeting with Obama as disappointing and that Obama was unprepared for the meeting.

Jim Jones is described by a McChrystal aide as a “clown” stuck in 1985. Others aides joked about Biden’s last name as sounding like “Bite me” since Biden opposed the surge.

Read more: The headline calls Obby “furious”!!!!

At last! Cue the Gone with the Wind music!

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Snicker. From one of the many Politico articles on this flapflappy:

As Tina Brown noted: “Well, now we know why Petraeus fainted.”

3. marisacat - 22 June 2010

hmmm MSNBC goes with “Top 10 Quotes”. At least they gathered them…

I’d say th most deadly are:

– “Bottom line?” says a former Special Forces operator who has spent years in Iraq and Afghanistan. “I would love to kick McChrystal in the nuts. His rules of engagement put soldiers’ lives in even greater danger. Every real soldier will tell you the same thing.”

– McChrystal may have sold President Obama on counterinsurgency, but many of his own men aren’t buying it.

Geesh… aside from all the snide commentary about various individuals.

Feel pretty sure there were no nasty comments about Gates….

4. catnip - 22 June 2010

Link to the RS article.

Gibbsy: “I gave him [Obama] the article last nite and he was angry.”

Time for another beer summit!

catnip - 22 June 2010

Of course, he most likely was not “angry” about the fact that he nominated the ass.

catnip - 22 June 2010

Quite the tap-dancing display going on by Gibbs in his presser.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

well I think McChrystal was a Gates decision. Poor Obby.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

ooo thanks for that… I was hoping RS would let loose with it and not wait for Friday… (just woke up!)

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Reading it now… Glad for McC that wars are so handy for stiff prickedness, assholishness to the juvenalia level….

I realise it is just regular sick mil bravado bullshit (everything in France is “so gay”).

But i am so tired of it running the country. Or the wusses who attend. Tht would be Obby.

5. catnip - 22 June 2010

Fucking loons at dkos: if McChrystal is meeting with Obama he should be searched for weapons first because he’s “unstable”.

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

Oh fuck. What fuckin morons.
Stanley is a veritably certified bare hands killer.
Courtesy of millions of dollars in said “professional development” over his career. Funded , fallen over to vote on, and applauded by every military ass kissing Democratic “Tough on Defense” posing ratifier under the corpse drying sun.

Th Kos kiddies are the same buttholishers who said
Obama’s Got This in escalating the Wars. Just a short Surge.
A Wittle Surge.
An Itsy Bitsy Obama’s Got This Surge.

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

And ironically, if Obbie would happen to keel over in any of the General’s presence, they’d be the first to say they influenced him to give up the ghost.
Fucking Mind melded Death Ray’d him in or something…
So much for Mr. Special.

6. catnip - 22 June 2010
7. BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

Yes, Well, then.

2. BooHooHooMan – 3 October 2009

Oh yes. Yes Indeedy.
May they claw each other to death.

McChrystal. the much vaunted Special Forces Commander,
AND Obama, the much vaunted Smart Warrior,

now both SOoo exposed – More Cannon Fodder! More Troops!
-the whole invincible Next Gen Promise not to mention the very
Oo Rah Premise of Special Ops along with them– That JFK era con,
hastily conceived following Korea to provide an extra shell in the shell
game for Politicians to more easily sell War to the Public.. That JFK
era stillborn baby , just dead in utero, long before exiting that canal
headed for the Bay of Pigs. Never even washed of the bloody
afterbirth nor afforded an appropriate burial.

We’ll Have More! Lot’s More! The Generals say,
Fill up the family barracks O Mama as it were. Utterly bizarre.
And yet this invariably haploid redestructive cycle has been the
Warriors m.o. certainly for the last 50 years.

My my my, and ISN’T THIS interesting in retrospect, poking around that old thread…

https://marisacat.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/long-years-ahead-however-many-there-may-be/#comment-193831“>4. What Noom Would Say – 3 October 2009

We all know that Obama sucks because of the questions Helen Thomas asks. If you bring up the fact that Bush banned Helen Thomas from asking questions at all then, well, you’re probably just a “pwoggie” who doesn’t know that Chris Christie will save New Jersey.

Advantage. The troll.

Ah well, I guess some folks actually need the ditch.

catnip - 22 June 2010

There are rumours he’s resigned now.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

TIME is saying he’s arriving with resignation in hand, according “to rumors”.

8. marisacat - 22 June 2010

Ben Raines, the enviro reporter whose early pieces I ran from the Mobile Press-Register, said (he was on ABC, surprisingly) he feels the LA marshes and wetlands are already deeply damaged. ”Gone for decades”.

If they can protect AL and MS better, then 5 – 10 years for them.

He also dives off the rigs in the Gulf… and he said “everything below 20 feet down is dead”. Coral, crustaceans, fish, food chain. Apparently the bases of rigs are very alive with clinging life… normally. Said the lack of oxygen in thsi spill is what is killng everything, even more than the oil.

ABC had him and some film he shot off AL on, he filmed 28, TWENTY EIGHT, big, 4, 5 hundred pounders, adult sharks close in off AL. He said he was stunned. They are coming in for lack of air.

In a bit when I am more awake will check the Mobile P-R and see if they have new pieces up from him… after a few early breaking news things, I did nto see him.

9. BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

Stan Ain’t the Man no mo. He’s out.

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

What a waste. Any idea how hard it is to get a General for
the Afghani whose nick name is actually “Stan”?

catnip - 22 June 2010

10. catnip - 22 June 2010

I hold Rolling Stone editors culpable too.
by bkamr

lol …yes, let’s fry those journalists! Traitors!

You can’t make this shit up…

I posted this in a comment, but I think we really need to think and see this event beyond our shores, our perspectives, and Beltway/ Pentagon political optics.

Lady Gaga with her machine gun breasts and bare ass … with McCrystal’s remarks within …

Is anyone elses’ stomach beginning to clinch just thinking about how this issue of Rolling Stone will be perceived and used among fundamentalist leadership in the region? I frankly can’t imagine a better recruiting tool to persuade countless teenage boys into becoming suicide bombers for Allah against us, as the Great Satan.

11. BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

I love how Klein leaked it ,
then nope! McChrystal is “offering” to resign! Ob “will decide”!
Obama is politically scroooood either way.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Ob is finished…

CBS has a new poll out, majority (56 or 58%) say Ob “has no plan at all for the Gulf”.

And what now for US citizens on flotillas, streaming toward GAZA with food aid and whatever else for a place run by Hamas. In the wake of yesterday’s SC ruling….

IIRC the US calls them a terror organisation. It is not just ISrael.

catnip - 22 June 2010

I’d like to know how many of these blagher and pundit blowhards who are now blasting McChrystal bowed down in front of the Obama altar when he nominated him.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

oh I think they all like McChrystal, frankly. Thsi did catch people by surprise…

Should get more interesting…

There is an editor’s piece at Politico, that McChrustal signed off on the article, he was shown a full draft of it, and had no problems.

Somebody WANTED all thsi sht out there .

Good luck Obby.

I noticed very early, during the night, the head of NATO, Rogh Rasmussen who had been pretzel of Danmark and very much a Bush boy… come out strongly for McC…. dismissing the article.

Obby keeps this joker, after this, we should have a inauguration for Gates. Hillary for Veepr. Get this game over with.

catnip - 22 June 2010

Thunder & lightning here. Signing off for a while.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Take care!

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

Get a load of Josh Marshall in panties waiting for the talking points to come in:

We Don’t Know! THEY don’t know! Could be out! Could be in!
Could be sodomizing Barry as we speak!
Whatever it is, It’s not That Bad! They have a Plan!

Resigned’? Don’t Be Misled

It’s being reported that Gen. McChrystal has submitted his resignation to President Obama and Secretary Gates. And that’s being played in some publications as meaning McChrystal’s out.

Not even close. It’s entirely possible that McChrystal will be out this afternoon.

Not even close!
Could Be Any Minute!! BulKAK! {He of the flustered Boychick sound}

But in the present circumstances McChrystal submitting his resignation is a given; it is absolutely essential for him to do. He has no choice. And it goes without saying.

The question is whether Obama and Gates choose to accept. His submitting his resignation simply isn’t the bombshell some are presenting it as.

(It’s definitely a scoop for the folks reporting it correctly.)

Wait till you hear that the resignation has been accepted.

Late Update: Like I told you, now there’s further clarification. McChrystal has “offered to resign.” To be perfectly clear: great scoop from Joe Klein. Wish we would have gotten it. But the offer to resign, even submitting your resignation isn’t the same as having it accepted. And in this case, it almost goes without saying. Don’t be misled.

–Josh Marshall

And nice little head for Joe Klein there too, Josh! { “Work it!” ~}

Enjoy the mutual fellatio till you get your TPMs! BulKAK!

12. marisacat - 22 June 2010

Oh Shades of……….. I dunno what. Germany at the height? Perhaps?

By midnight at Kitty O’Shea’s, much of Team America is completely shitfaced. Two officers do an Irish jig mixed with steps from a traditional Afghan wedding dance, while McChrystal’s top advisers lock arms and sing a slurred song of their own invention. “Afghanistan!” they bellow. “Afghanistan!” They call it their Afghanistan song.

Just heard a report that RS is going to publish stuff that id d not make the final cut.

Way to go…

13. catnip - 22 June 2010

MSNBC saying he has NOT offered his resignation.

Oh, the drama!

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

I Love Drama! Especially with Barry in the lead! 😆

marisacat - 22 June 2010

want drama?

Deepwater Horizon probably sits on a massive field of methane gas.

Which can blow.

Article in Helium.

[B]y some geologists’ estimates the methane could be a massive 15 to 20 mile toxic and explosive bubble trapped for eons under the Gulf sea floor. In their opinion, the explosive destruction of the Deepwater Horizon wellhead was an accident just waiting to happen.

Yet the disaster that followed the loss of the rig pales by comparison to the apocalyptic disaster that may come.

A cascading catastrophe

According to worried geologists, the first signs that the methane may burst its way through the bottom of the ocean would be fissures or cracks appearing on the ocean floor near the damaged well head.

Evidence of fissures opening up on the seabed have been captured by the robotic submersibles working to repair and contain the ruptured well. Smaller, independent plumes have also appeared outside the nearby radius of the bore hole itself.

According to some geological experts, BP’s operations set into motion a series of events that may be irreversible snipflippy

BooHooHooMan - 22 June 2010

Terrifying. For money™ for school™, so American™, I traveled for a year for a civil engineering firm, working with a crew on large truck mounted drill rigs doing test borings and taking soil samples at various depths for foundation, roadway, and tarmac load bearing analysis. Near most all coastal airports, here in the east anyways, there are peat bogs and wet lands thus methane which does blow and can easily ignite from static electricity. I had a friend who suffered life altering, horribly mutilating burns over his entire body, destroying his face in a manhole at the Pgh Airport in which several workers were killed. And that was over a small pocket that completely vented within a minute. Members of the crew went in immediately to get whoever they could out.

Now I don’t know the physics of it all, to what degree given globular hydrocarbon masses at sea can retain how much gas and travel for what distance, but I likened the whole insane prospect as if somebody decided to strip mine Mt St Helen’s. There obviously is a crown of highly pressurized death beneath that sea floor.

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Not been a good few weeks or anythign related to “drilling”… several accidents, big burns, kill sites, small numbers quickly over run by new news, for gas drilling. One in WV dropped from the news as soon as the big blow occrred in Texas. Now the Australian top execs for Sundance down, in a big airplane accdient in Africa.

And of course the mine with the 29 deaths in WV…

And the ongoing story of The Gulf.

14. marisacat - 22 June 2010

well… ya know.

If McCrystal and his aides [de camp!] consider all of France “fucking gay”……….. they don’t think Obby is some macho much less hands on Leader.

Gee… none other than KARZAI is saying to keep McC.

Leslie Gelb says keep him

marisacat - 22 June 2010

Shit, retired general after ret gen is coming out saying, keep him fr the sake of the mission.

The “mission” is fucking us, that is fro certain.

15. marisacat - 22 June 2010

SMBIVA has a post up on apartheid, Israel nd boycotts…

down in th guts is this… (and more)

[F]or a quasi-nautical and quasi-musical guy like me it’s particularly nice to see that the honest intelligent stand-up folk include longshoremen and rock musicians:

Sweden to launch weeklong boycott on Israeli ships

Swedish dockworkers are set to launch a weeklong boycott of Israeli ships and goods to protest Monday’s raid on a Gaza-destined aid flotilla, a union spokesman said.

Britain’s largest union, Unite, has unanimously passed a motion to boycott Israeli companies at its first policy conference in Manchester on Wednesday.

June 4, 2010 — At its central executive committee (CEC) meeting Friday, SAMWU unanimously endorsed a motion to immediately work towards every municipality in South Africa to become an Apartheid Israel free zone.

As part of the global Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions Campaign (BDS) SAMWU has agreed to engage every single municipality to ensure that there are no commercial, academic, cultural, sporting or other linkages whatsoever with the Israeli regime. Every SAMWU branch will immediately approach municipal and water authorities to become part of the BDS campaign, and to publicly declare their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
