Ugh. If any of this holds up (and i have no strength or energy to poke around) it has to be answered… and the Righties will have it any minute. Went up about an hour ago at Cpunch.

ts - 2 August 2010

Break out the popcorn!

marisacat - 2 August 2010

Butter! Salt! …. parmesan cheese! … a selection of popcorn!!

****

I do admit that out of curiosity I am peeking around to see how it travels… to where and at what speed. Not at Instapundit, nor The Corner…. have nto bothered to make it to The Weekly Standard… nor RCP… (I can only handle so many rightie sites) nor TownHall…

Monday in August………………. could take a while.

Isolationism, exceptionalism, bigotry, xenophobia…it’s what’s on the top of the dkos wreck list.

If I’m ever in so much pain that I write shit like this, shoot me – because I will have no doubt lost my fucking mind…

I really don’t care about Afganistan.

I don’t care if they have schools. I want my local schools to garner the same level of support that we have tossed into that stone age hell hole.

I don’t care if they have a stable government. If they can’t get their heads out of their asses long enough to express at least a modicum of interest in joining the 21 century, let them blast each other to Hell and let the Devil sort ’em out.

I don’t care if the world is composed of painfully stupid, terminally ignorant, or just unenlightened primitive psychopaths. Let them fight it out among themselves until they destroy themselves. Those who are too weak, or two self-involved, to take a stand on their own behalf, no longer receive my sympathy.

[Too weak and self-involved? Including you then? -catnip]

If Pakistan wants to place 70% of their armed forces on the border with India against some imagined invasion, while the ungoverned territories breed maniacs that kill their citizens, I say let them. It’s not my problem and I really don’t care. We hear in every enlightened discussion that Iran hates the Taliban and will not tolerate their excesses, so why are we going it alone in the fight? Oh, never mind. I don’t care.

The fucking stupidity just burns.

I’m no war-monger – never have been – but when your country fucks up another country repeatedly you owe those citizens something. Not drones and killing civilians in wedding parties – just some basic understanding that the people “over there” are actually human beings. When you are so damn self-absorbed that you can’t even muster up one iota of compassion for anybody but yourself and your kind, you’re just beyond gone.

And all of those fucking Democrats over at the Big Fucking Orange Nightmare who are cheering this woman on are the same ones who voted in lockstep for Obama, knowing he was going to escalate in Afghanistan. Damn hypocrites, the lot of them.

Who are these people? I don’t even know anymore…

I’d apologize for this mini-rant but I wouldn’t really mean it…

marisacat - 2 August 2010

It’s a very strange place, Orange Land… but I noticed taht whole line of “they need to stand up… “, applied to both Iraq and Afganistan, went over very well here. The hapless luckless population liked it very much.

catnip - 2 August 2010

It’s pretty hard to stand up when you’re being bombed repeatedly and when your gov’t is just the puppet of American Empire Inc. But when people/Westerners get tired of their little wars, they aim their angry sites at the innocent people as if they deserve the clusterfuck they’ve been thrown into.

Not the first time I’ve seen that BS over there and it’s rampant in the I/P diaries a la “well, maybe they shouldn’t hide terrorists in their houses if they don’t want to be killed” – as if life really is that bloody simple.

Did you see the newest cover of TIME Magazine?

marisacat - 2 August 2010

yes the slur that Iraqis and Afghanis and Pakistanis are just too backward to benefit and learn (we believe in education!! and red white and blue pom poms!) from invasion, bombing and terror activities suits Americans.

We are unselfishly there for their edification.

Keeps the terrible fictions going…

CSTAR - 2 August 2010

you owe those citizens something. Not drones and killing civilians in wedding parties

I think what you them has a name. Reparations.

catnip - 3 August 2010

Well, considering that reparations often take centuries to get, I’m not holding my breath.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

There were no reparations for Vietnam… none.

Then again, when Rummy and Cheney and now others of the same ilk go there fairly regularly for discussions… sigh.

Why not coercive treaties, skip killing the population. (mere rhetoric, I know. Killing civilians is what war is all about)

ms_xeno - 3 August 2010

Well, they are hanging around with the King of the “Libertarian Democrats,” eh?

(Meaning no disrespect to the actual Libertarians who aren’t stupid fucking assholes, of course.)

3. CSTAR - 2 August 2010

Does anybody (Tim Geithner included) really believe this shit?(link)

marisacat - 2 August 2010

ugh that was a depressing read…. and no I don’t think Geithner believes it. He is on a “pat down the population” tour. As I see it.

I don’t htink much of any of the assembled pigs at the trough that Ob has around him.. but i wonder what Christina Romer and or Volcker might write. (That is not an endorsement of either one of them, 🙄 )

Americans seem to enjoy being nursery school level… constantly getting their nappies changed and their food macerated for them.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

from page 2:

According to a report released last week by Alan Blinder and Mark Zandi, advisers to President Bill Clinton and Senator John McCain [BI PARTISAN! ….so we should believe! – Mcat], respectively, the combined actions since the fall of 2007 of the Federal Reserve, the White House and Congress helped save 8.5 million jobs and increased gross domestic product by 6.5 percent relative to what would have happened had we done nothing.

The study showed that government action delivered a powerful bang for the buck, and that the bank rescue on its own will turn a profit for taxpayers.

Gah.

He keeps going, on to Mom and apple pie… the American Worker.

These are considerable challenges, but we are in a much stronger position to face them today than when President Obama took office. By taking aggressive action to fix the financial system, reduce growth in health care costs and improve education, we have put the American economy on a firmer foundation for future growth.

And as the president said last week, no one should bet against the American worker, American business and American ingenuity.

We suffered a terrible blow, but we are coming back

marisacat - 3 August 2010

Business Insider paraphrases the Geithner slurbble… as in “Look, We always knew the Recovery was going to be Garbage

ts - 3 August 2010

“We suffered a terrible blow, but we are coming back.”

No thanks to you. You took all our money and gave it to the people who got us into this mess.

ts - 3 August 2010

This is all to perpetuate the myth that they “fixed” things. Nothing has been fixed. Unemployment is 9.5% offically and in the broadest sense is over 16%, not counting the roughly equal number that have taken involuntary pay cuts, furloughs (all the state workers in ca), had their overtime cut back, hours cut to not quite full time, benefits reduced or eliminated entirely…they didn’t fix shit. The economy is trying to fix itself despite them.

B&Z created a fantasy scenario entirely of their own making (the counterfactual), where they saved the economy. Now this is being cited as proof they saved the economy.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

I think everything they point to as a remedy, has simply been destructive. I don’t see us getting out, frankly… how could we.

AND anyone who misses that Arnold was set into place in Cali TO BE destructive was not paying attention.

4. marisacat - 3 August 2010

Gah.. MJ is not and never has been my drug but it sure is interesting to see what congress has time for

I have noticed in the new MJ economy of med MJ there has been a penchant not just for cooking the material but some wrappings and packaging that is reminiscent of candy.

Honestly I never thought it had much to do with children, having much more to do with the usual drug fetish of playing with wrappings.

Congress may be more clever than you think. The Senate approved anti-drug legislation that may help squash one of the sneakier ways of getting high: pot brownies.

The Saving Kids From Dangerous Drugs Act of 2009, which passed the Senate unanimously Friday, includes language that could make the fines and jail time for cooking and distributing pot brownies double those for possessing regular (uncooked) marijuana. From the bill:

(1) UNLAWFUL ACTS — Except as authorized under this title, including paragraph (3), it shall be unlawful for any person at least 18 years of age to knowingly or intentionally manufacture or create, with intent to manufacture, create, distribute, or dispense, a controlled substance listed in schedule I or II that is —

(A) combined with a candy product;
… snip….

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 August 2010

omg … brownies are like crack, more “dangerous” MJ?

oh, so stupid …

ms_xeno - 3 August 2010

Well, they make you FAT!!

Michelle O. won’t like you if you’re FAT!!11

marisacat - 3 August 2010

Speaking of the Great Mother of us all… in the same article at Lenin…. it stated that while half of ALL American children are on Food Stamps at one time or another, the number for black children is NINETY PERCENT.

But she will still go huntin’ for baby fat. And she does have a favored preference for pointing out that, in particular, black children are fat. Go Michelle! Such valuable work.

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 August 2010

her priorities are utterly fucked.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

ugh it drives me batty.

ms_xeno - 3 August 2010

Alan Smithee made a similar point a few months back. In response to Maia at Alas, hand-wringing about how the Obamas would encourage children to develop eating disorders, AS quite sensibly said something along the lines of, Get real, Maia. People who think nothing of bombing small children into tiny bits sure as fuck don’t give a crap about whether or not they get eating disorders or not.

I mean, AS and I don’t always agree, but he got that right, for sure.

She revealed herself, and how little effective retail politiking she had ever done when, in Zanesville Ohio, in the depths of winter in the campaign, a place with a median income under 40 K – and already, then, lots of unemployed… she blithered on and on about vegetables and her girls. AND how extras for them, each of them, cost 10K a year.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

the Feds are going to step up raids all across the board, as I see it.

We just had a huge raid (not htat I care) of masses of stores selling counterfeit goods…. Fisherman’s Wharf nd similar areas. They nabbed a load of Chinese, stating that some were illegal. My own guess is that Chinatown cooperated, somebody not playing along got given up.

The MJ grow raids go on….. and the illegals raids intensify.

In the end, ti si about the raids, as I see it.

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 August 2010

it’s all just such a misapplication of power.

Speaking of prognostications from the inner sanctum of the economist lair…. found this at Lenin’s Tomb.

An embedded link indicated it is Larry Summers being quoted:

The best description I have heard comes from an economist who I won’t name for the moment because he’s a real shithead. But he did nail this one when he said,

“What the United States is experiencing is a statistical recovery and a human recession.”

That’s precisely what’s happened. A few statistical indicators have moved up, but for the vast majority of working class people, the recession continues. ….

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 August 2010

of course, Larry said it like it was a GOOD thing.

Official: 9 killed in Conn. workplace shooting

MANCHESTER, Conn. — A Connecticut official says nine people have died in a shooting at a beer distribution warehouse in Connecticut.

The official was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press only on the condition of anonymity about the shootings Tuesday morning in Manchester, about 10 miles east of Hartford.

A company executive says a warehouse driver who was asked to resign his job refused, then opened fire.

Brett Hollander of Hartford Distributors says 50 to 70 people were inside during a shift change when shootings happened.

John Hollis of the Connecticut Teamsters is with company officials at the scene of the shooting. He says the driver had worked at the distributor for a couple of years and been called in for a disciplinary hearing.

The court here that heard the case on Prop 8 (ss mariage), argued by Olsen and Boies, the judge has reached a decision, it will be announced, meaning the paperwork will be released, tomorrow…

As it works its intended journey to the SC.

Madman in the Marketplace - 3 August 2010

marisacat - 3 August 2010

that made me laugh!

NO body objected to the judge… neither side.

My guess, is one, his rulings are all ove the place… no fix on making him someflaming liberal…. and 2… I really do think this is orchestrated to get it to the SC (I trust Olsen, Boies and that ineffectual bullhorn not at all… the Hollywood guy funding this, cannot think of his name. He was “Meathead” on the Carrolll OConnor Archie show), I am half expecting the judge to uphold Prop 8.

U.S. Supreme Court asked to halt Khadr trial

I was looking for some opinions about Obama’s changes to the process last year and found this post: “Enemy Combatant” replacement “Unprivileged Enemy Belligerent” -McCain/Lieberman Act

I don’t remember that bizarre descriptor change.

marisacat - 3 August 2010

unprivileged enemy belligerant?

I wonder what the replacement for “war” is. “Motivated advancement with enhancements” ???

More Greenwald: ACLU, CCR seek to have Obama enjoined from killing Awlaki without due process

What a fucked-up system.

A major legal challenge to one of the Obama administration’s most radical assertions of executive power began this morning in a federal courthouse in Washington, DC. Early last month, the ACLU and the Center for Constitutional Rights were retained by Nasser al-Awlaki, the father of Obama assassination target (and U.S. citizen) Anwar al-Awlaki, to seek a federal court order restraining the Obama administration from killing his son without due process of law. But then, a significant and extraordinary problem arose: regulations promulgated several years ago by the Treasury Department prohibit U.S. persons from engaging in any transactions with individuals labeled by the Government as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” and those regulations specifically bar lawyers from providing legal services to such individuals without a special “license” from the Treasury Department specifically allowing such representation.

On July 16 — roughly two weeks after Awlaki’s father retained the ACLU and CCR to file suit — the Treasury Department slapped that label on Awlaki. That action would have made it a criminal offense for those organizations to file suit on behalf of Awlaki or otherwise provide legal representation to him without express permission from the U.S. Government. On July 23, the two groups submitted a request for such a license with the Treasury Department, and when doing so, conveyed the extreme time-urgency involved: namely, that there is an ongoing governmental effort to kill Awlaki and any delay in granting this “license” could cause him to be killed without these claims being heard by a court. Despite that, the Treasury Department failed even to respond to the request…

marisacat - 3 August 2010

no end in sight, either.

Someone has posted it as a comment to the 7/28 Margaret Kimberley post on Sherrod over at Black Agenda Report.

It has to be answered. Atlanta Journal Constitution, for one, needs to answer it, they are there on the ground in GA… they tried repeatedly to reach her during the night this all broke, with no success and finally still in the middle of the night, she reached out to them.

BAR as well. Must sort this out, I mean
