On strike!

I noticed in some of the photographs of the protests a popular sign (several caught in shots) is a call out to Carla.  That the French people are like her, both get screwed by the Head of State.

Blessed.

FWIW… over at corrente, John Halle and Bob PErry have another call and response, for anyone who had been following it.

To be frank, I am unsure why Perry feels that, beyond writing his opinions, he can lecture anyone. I thought Lawrence O’Donnell’s comments, over the years (he did not do it just once) about how the Dem party need not pay attntion to the Left, as they may scream and yell but then show up to vote like little automatons…. is very clear.

Seems Perry never gets it.

While I am at it, I see the Luv The Big Dog or Basement Angel and lambert will jump on you ( if I am reading right, BA started with the ad hominem about ms_xeno first, called her brainless I do believe, tho lambert accuses ms_xeno of vilifying Clinton lovers voters ….) is still going.

There is nothing healthy about cynicism.

By basement angel on Fri, 10/22/2010 – 11:54pm

It aids corruption and costs the sincere. I doubt you’d recognize a sincere candidate with the brains to get elected. I wonder what your beef with Roosevelt would have been in 1931? He had been Secretary of the Navy.

[shrug]

lambert and even b_a are far from the worst I’ve ever seen. At least it’s not like fucking Blue Oregon over there, where you could go for a walk after posting and come back to find you’d been stricken from the record. For no reason other than that your ability to speak clearly gave your POV credence that they didn’t want it to have.

And hey, lambert will actually link to Green Party candidates and let them speak on Corrente. Unlike, say, Alas, where nobody gives a fuck about 3rd Parties until they can yap and scold ad nauseum because Nader called Obama an “Uncle Tom.”

As for the Hillary faithful who call other women “brainwashed by the patriarchy” and such shit because we won’t kiss the hem of our lovely SoS’s garment… [shrug again] Nothing I haven’t seen a kajillion times before, in other places.

marisacat - 24 October 2010

well I don’t think lambert nor basement angel nor others there are some cutting edge vanguard.

I am thinking of the night ba jumped up and down and said we (sort of a conditional state of mind – or madness) should worship Bill for all his AIDS work, she worked herself into a frenzy. It looked idiotic.

But it was not rare.

ms_xeno - 24 October 2010

Jay Taber had a lovely post several weeks back about how Bill and Hill are hand in glove with any number of unsavory characters abroad. I meant to pester him for some links at the time, but I would have been too tired to follow through on any in-depth reading, so I decided against it.

I do find it funny that other feminists whine to me that I’m unfair to Hillary and I’m not “treating her as her own person.” Uh, yeah. I kind of am. She stayed married to a fucking title, for god’s sake, riding it much further than any number of equally mediocre-minded women of the same type could manage without the cache of having been First Lady, or at least in some way connected to a politically prominent family.

Then the other feminists whine that I should be leaving poor Hillary alone and focusing on bad men. Yeah, like I’ve never flipped Bill or Al or Dennis or any of those other assholes shit for what they do. I don’t expect everyone I “meet” online to read my entire LJ history before they post, but a cursory glance would tell them that I hardly spend a kajillion words a week picking on poor old Hillary as if she’s the sole locus of evil in Teh Party– as opposed to just one more good-sized cog.

People think what they wanna’. [shrug] Not much I can do about it.

marisacat - 24 October 2010

I htink they all have overseas ties… all of them. Money now, money later.

Bill and Hill have had 20 years to work it hard. It was Hill who called herself the Senator FOR the Punjab. Aside from all the other associations.

“The sense I’m getting, talking to insiders, is this basically breaks down into thirds. A third of the body politic doesn’t care. A third opposes it, and a third is an advocate for lifting the ban.”

Oblation needs to get a move on. Oh … but ….then … there is that dog collar he wears… that reads: The Military Owns My Ass.

3. marisacat - 23 October 2010

mammma mia. (moiv sent me the link)

ms_xeno - 23 October 2010

He was in PDX on Wednesday… or was it Thursday. Mere words cannot describe how happy I was to be far, far away from downtown.

4. ts - 24 October 2010

Maybe he has a little spring back in his step now that he knows he’s going to lose?

As they face the certainty of losses, Democrats are in a sense victims of their own success after winning 55 seats and expanding far into conservative territory over the last two election cycles. Now they are trying to defy history and demographics as they struggle to hang on to the districts in a midterm election with their party in the White House.

Uh…yeah.

5. ms_xeno - 24 October 2010

Hey, Gang. Found this via LJ. It’s Beat-centric, so I figured that it might be appropriate.

Have a great Sunday!

Madman in the Marketplace - 24 October 2010

thanks for that.

I’m royally sick of people trying to elevate the teabaggers by comparing them to people of far more intelligence, character and worth.

ms_xeno - 24 October 2010

It’s in character for the yobs and ignorant fuckwits at the sacred NYT, though. Maybe next week, they’ll have Thomas Friedman favoring us with his haiku selections. :p

Nothing embodies the idea that “education is useless” better than the stalwarts at that piece of shit paper.

6. Madman in the Marketplace - 24 October 2010

kind of astounding how quickly the NYT moved reports of torture and other war crimes from the leak dump from the front page and replaced them with stories about how much of an egomaniac Julian Assange is … as though his being an asshole is an issue that should matter to anybody.

marisacat - 24 October 2010

I was not aware of this, but apparently the very convoluted and, at least to my reading of what was exposed, in fact NOT RAPE, but the charges of rape have surfaced again.

If what was reported is true, I just don’t think that one woman, can get upset when a unmarried unaffilated man has sex with her and then with someone (20 years younger btw) else 2 days later.

A mess.

catnip - 24 October 2010

We’re Moving Forward.

Get with the program!

ms_xeno - 24 October 2010

Yeah. You can tell from all the tire tracks the “movers” have left on the supine bodies of their ever-pliant “base.”

Gotta’ go. It’s time for my drug test. [snerk]

Thanks. Yikes.

Madman in the Marketplace - 24 October 2010

who can argue with such a wholesome famly sport.

ms_xeno - 25 October 2010

Ironically, even in the supposed “liberal stronghold” of my youth, nobody minded kids having toy guns. I had one, “girly girl” though I am. :p

WTF is wrong with toy guns for a five-year-old, for fuck’s sake? She won’t grow up right unless she can touch real gunpowder at that age?

Christ.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

I had toy pistols… with a belt holster. Silver and turquoise. I just loved them… I remember the day my MOTHER bought them for me…. at a toy store downtown, right off Union Square… then we went o the square so I could put them on — and buy cornets of corn and feed the pigeons. Of course, feeding the pigeons, AND the “Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill” too, feeding both is illegal now.

9. diane - 24 October 2010

…both get screwed by the Head of State.

one with vaseline …millions without.

diane - 24 October 2010

I hardly think the Sark goes in the front … too teeny weeny.

marisacat - 24 October 2010

LOL While I was at the daily Telegraph, I also read a piece that made me laugh. Sarko has just made a fast run over to Rome to see il papa…. all the better to shore up his sagging numbers with French Catholics… and the Vatican told him, Carla is not wanted.

The supposed reason is that too often, when she accompnaies Sarko, the local media will run pics of her from her undressed model past. And Papa did nto want that.

They meekly silently acceded, she stayed in Paris… and in fact Ssarko was spied making a sign of the cross somewhere or other during the trip. Tho he is hardly an adherent – baptised but lapsed.

All Hail Hypocrisy…

diane - 24 October 2010

Ahh too frickin funny

can we have a moment of silence, en solidarietá …. with the Sarky’s eeny teeny weeny, …too be followed, with a moment of silence for Ratzy’s teeny weeny.

10. marisacat - 24 October 2010

hmmm… as she wings her way to close to 200 million bucks spent – by the end of this mess.

Ben Smith: Political News and Analysis:

Whitman’s last pitch

October 24, 2010

Meg Whitman’s closing spot seeks to warm her up, in part by beginning with a remarkable concession:

that the millions she’s spent to define herself haven’t really worked, that voters still see her as a distant billionaire and the election as an “unhappy choice.”

marisacat - 24 October 2010

Here is probably why, a new USC/LA TImes polll has Jerry up by double digits. I don’t think much of media polls… but I am guessing Meg has some internal polling that mirrors or is close.

Same poll says Barbara up by 8. well…………….. maybe. Carly just wrote her campaing a million bucks. She jsut never raised much money (tho some at the end)… not a good sign.

diane - 24 October 2010

I saw Carly‘s recent spot on network TV, creeped the fuck out of me, ……. if there were any sane editors about, they didn’t appear to be at all concerned with the fact that Carly literally sounded, and looked (facial expressions), exactly like the epitome of a real live WICKED WITCH.

Not sure which is worse Babs or Carly, though placing my money on Carly for the Nasty Bitch Tiara, but won’t be voting for either.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

Well I did think it exposed, somehow or other, her innate bitchiness.

ms_xeno - 25 October 2010

I think that if I considered myself a “bitch,” I’d be offended right now. :p

marisacat - 25 October 2010

You’d have to see the commercial. Every time I see it, I wonder they let it pass.

My mother used “bitch” to connote meanness. works for me…

diane - 25 October 2010

yeah, I was pretty shocked they ran it too, it really is a perfect caricature of an incredibly mean person, puckering mouth, caustic voice, and all.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

The over all look on her face is kind of stunning.

diane - 25 October 2010

The over all look on her face is kind of stunning.

yup.

I’m curious as to your thoughts, if any, as to why they might have run such a seemingly suicidal ad (not that I mind if she commits political suicide, but more to ask why would she)? The only thing I could come up with was political suicide, … don’t even want to entertain the thought that a majority would find this ad appealing, in any way, shape or form …way too depressing to mull on.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

I think they like the ads… they don’t see what others see.

11. lucid - 25 October 2010

Now we’re afraid of a box of kitties

marisacat - 25 October 2010

we’re weaker than kittens in a box…………………… pretty easy to extrapolate that one!

and really, who knows who he voted for. NTIM

catnip - 25 October 2010

Well, as long as it wasn’t Nader, les enfants de l’orange don’t care.

13. catnip - 25 October 2010

Omar Khadr pleads guilty to all terrorism charges

I hope Obama is damn proud of himself. What a fucking travesty.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

I see taht the Canadians at Gitmo can apply to serve their ”sentences” at home.

Round about way of lightening the load…

catnip - 25 October 2010

I’m going to write a post about this later but, basically, I think he knew he was screwed (the first HINT was being tried as a child soldier, FFS) and since evidence acquired via torture was deemed acceptable, he probably decided to cut his losses and find his way back here ASAP by any means possible. The Cons here aren’t commenting. They’ll still try to keep him out of the country as long as possible no matter what “deal” was reached.

14. diane - 25 October 2010

I really like Chris Hedges

Haven’t read all of “The world Liberal Opportunists Made” yet, but, I’m thinking, I’ll agree with most, if not all, of it, especially after reading that Santa Clara County SUPERVISORS are an inch away from banning renters in the unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County, from smoking inside their “HOMES:”

Residential smoking ban puts Santa Clara County in forefront of crackdowns
By John Woolfolk/San Jose Mercury
October 25, 2010

(would provide a link, but the last Mercury link I provided failed, due to registration issues, can likely find the article by going to the : home page.)

Love that term: CRACKDOWNS. People falling through the fucking cracks, and this is what our dear liberals find most important to do, when it is fully agreed upon that the POOR get at least a bit of comfort, from lighting up (as they generally have no access to comfort, or decent medical care), however short term that may be, most of them do not want to live forever in this hell hole.

And of course, the poor, generally do not go to those Supervisor’s meetings, they need jobs, they are not going to speak out against the system, directly to the system.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

here is the link: San Jose Merc

Interesting that it can affect the unincorporated areas but not the cities:

The laws affect only the unincorporated areas and not cities where most county residents live. County officials said about 300 multifamily complexes with about 1,100 individual housing units are affected, as well as 33 existing businesses.

diane - 25 October 2010

It sounds like it’s geared directly towards “the poor,” they wouldn’t want to whupset any cigar or pipe smokers in the cities of Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Los Gatos, etc., no problem at all though with unincorporated East San Jose etc., I don’t even want to know how they intend to police this, though I’m sure yet another snitch line will be involved.

The Classicism, and Racism in Cali is fucking stunning.

diane - 25 October 2010

classism, not classicism.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

I think it is because the cities legislate within ther borders. Their own city councils and boards.

The first sweeping anti smoking rules (that I ever knew of) were in……………… Berkeley… 😆 What a scream! 40 years ago, passed with great passion and never ever followed.

Well we live in a big fat finger shake in other peoples’ face era.

and to be frank, a lot of church blacks and consrvative Latinos look flat out nasty to me. AnD dictatorial. Hard to tell them apart from the thug version of the “Connelly Donnellys” as I call the white factions.

Good luck to them all.

diane - 25 October 2010

Hadn’t known that about Berkeley, and yeah agreed, plenty dictatorialism to go around, it bothers me far more though when they claim a progressive banner.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

“progressive” was always a very problematical political banner. One reason I never adopted it.

As someone pointed out to some little ”progressive” screamer years ago on Dkos, you can thank the “progressives” for Urban Redevelopment. And a few other things. Thank them for the Kelo ruling, in the same vein. (Eminent Domain)

anyone left buying into “progressive” missed a few decades of reading. SF loves to call itself “progressive”. And so on.

diane - 25 October 2010

Agree. I don’t care for jumping on any political movement bandwagons myself, or claiming a political label, especially one that implies by its title that my ‘tribe’ is better than all others.

Candidate du Jour:

WOONSOCKET, R.I. – Welcome to Rhode Island, where Democratic politics are so quirky that the party’s nominee for governor welcomed President Obama on Monday by declaring, on live radio, that the president could “take his endorsement and really shove it.”

marisacat - 25 October 2010

I heard the audio… made me laugh.

Obby may end up with his bots, blacks, white libs………. and lose quite a few factions of the Democratic party.

Madman in the Marketplace - 25 October 2010

and all because Barry didn’t want to “take sides” against his old buddy Lincoln Chafee. Of course, the donk “base” is supposed to swallow just about anything and turn out to vote for the donks. Loyalty to party only works one way, I guess.

Frauds.

Larry King had an interesting interview with Clarence Thomas’ former mate tonite. I didn’t know she wasn’t asked to testify thanks to Joe Biden.

I still cringe when I see those clips of Thomas lying in his hearing. Supreme asshole.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

Biden colluded with an aide to Jesse Helms. The Helms aide basically ran the committee hearings… There were other women too, never called.

Jane Mayer, among others, wrote definitively on the mess the whole thing was.

marisacat - 25 October 2010

ugh it might have been Strom (Thurmond) and a Strom aide. Ive merged Helms and Strom, now that both are gone.

catnip - 25 October 2010

Not much difference. Understandable.

19. marisacat - 26 October 2010

oh verrry funny. They’ve been killing Meggie wth the latest ads:
