3. BooHooHooMan - 9 December 2010

Helluva thing when asking the old folks in the family what they want for Christmas and they all say a Low Orbit Ion Cannon.

It seems this Anonymous fellah < — 😆
( lotsa relatives!) …. is methodically working through every money hub on the web.

And while the PTB move to push the collateral damage meme…it's a bit ironic coming from the various moneybookers large and small behind lay offs and laying waste everywhere…A bit ironic that the capitalists now expect the consumer to be anything more than focused on forcing them to honor account protection and purchasing agreements. A bit ironic coming from a class banking on largely apolitical sheeple just looking to get their shit. Which drops it back on the banks and buyer protection plans.

I also saw that Paypal was indeed inoperable on Meggy Moos site today.

Gotta love the hive mind.

diane - 9 December 2010

what the fuck is a Low Orbit Ion Cannon?

Y’know, the sad thing is that when you scratch at the veneer of the local-variety liberal/prog, it’s pretty much the same shit. Yeah, they have a more compassionate set of buzzwords and catchphrases but with very little prodding they still manage to reveal themselves as shallow, self-centered, clueless, judgmental assholes.

Yeah, let’s make everyone go to college. Over and over and over again. Then they can be up to their asses in debts that can never be discharged AND they’ll still be fucking jobless, but EDUCATION IS EMPOWERING!!11

Fuck that noise. Seriously.

5. marisacat - 9 December 2010

here it is:

Time to Think the Unthinkable: A Democratic Primary Challenge To Obama’s Reelection

It is not easy to consider challenging the first African-American to be elected as President of the United States. But, regrettably, I believe that the time has come to do this.

It is time for Progressives to stop “whining” and arguing among themselves about whether President Obama will or will not do this or that. Obama is no different than any other President, nominated by his national party. He was elected with the hard work and 24/7 commitment of persons who believed and enlisted in his campaign for “Hope” and “Change.”

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist nor have a PhD in political science and sociology to see clearly that Obama has abandoned much of the base that elected him. He has done this because he no longer respects, fears or believes those persons who elected him have any alternative, but to accept what he does, whether they like it or not.

It is time for those persons who constituted the “Movement” that enabled Senator Barack Obama to be elected to “break their silence”; to indicate that they no longer will sit on their hands, and only let off verbal steam and ineffective sound and fury, and “hope” for the best.

The answer is blowin’ in the wind

The pursuit of the war in Afghanistan in support of a certifiably corrupt Afghan government and the apparent willingness to retreat from his campaign commitment of no further tax cuts for the rich, his equivocal and foot dragging leadership to end DADT, his TARP for Wall Street, but, equivocal insufficient attention to the unemployment and housing foreclosures of Main Street, suggest that the template of the 1968 challenge to the reelection of President Lyndon Johnson now must be thoughtfully considered for Obama in 2012.

BooHooHooMan - 9 December 2010

Nope! .Sorry !..trying to get their vid from London…

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

I just heard the recording on NPR of the students chanting “Off with their heads!” Damn, but that was beautiful.

I wonder if it gave the fragile flowers on “public radio” the vapors, though?

😀

BooHooHooMan - 10 December 2010

I’d be like,
“Off with their Rolls, First!
We Can Pick them up Later for the Beheading!!”
“Ooo Quick! NPR’s ‘All Things Considered’ is on 90.7!”

😆 😉 Okay! – So I’m a little provincial!

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

I actually like our NPR jazz station, but even 2-3 minutes of their “news” feels like it lasts a week. Gah. The smugness and condescension that radiates off those people. You could bottle it. :/

7. marisacat - 10 December 2010

I don’t even care WHY, nor is eihter a peach but whatever, personal dislike, jockeying for power, pettiness, irritability, fakery…

who cares……. may they all bite each other to death.

Happy Friday! BEHIND THE CURTAIN – “Schumer vs. Obama,” by Glenn Thrush:

“It wasn’t on the White House’s [public] schedule, but on Nov. 22 Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) quietly slipped into the Oval Office on a self-appointed mission to steel Barack Obama for the tax-cut fight. Schumer, the newly-anointed message guru for besieged Senate Democrats, told Obama he wanted the president to hold the line and oppose Republican efforts to extend the cuts to families making more than $250,000. But Obama, according to people briefed on the hour-long one-on-one meeting, was cool and non-committal, especially when Schumer pitched his pet plan to extend the cuts to families making up to $1 million per year – a move designed to corner Republicans into defending millionaires [if true, not at all a bad idea — Mcat]

The president was considerably more blunt when Schumer and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made another trip to the White House a week later, suggesting he simply wasn’t interested in an extended battle with an uncertain result.

–“Schumer was irked … The White House, in turn, was incensed when it learned Schumer planned to push forward with votes … on alternative Democratic proposals. … When a vote on the millionaire plan came up short last Saturday, the administration gloated – and mocked Schumer for over-estimating his support in meetings with West Wing officials. … If Obama wants to elevate beyond Washington’s partisan fray to win back independents in 2012, Schumer’s goal is to defeat the GOP opposition and secure a sustainable Democratic majority, using targeted policy positions. … The elevation of Schumer … poses a new challenge to Obama, who had enjoyed dominance of the party’s national messaging operation over the last two years. [ he did? — Mcat]

During the 2006 cycle, then-Sen. Obama was the Democrat most sought-after for fundraising and rallies, and Schumer, in his role as DSCC chairman, worked with his staff to set up a crowded schedule of appearances. … During one meeting with Schumer and several other senators that year, Obama expressed annoyance at small talk and urged the stunned New Yorker to ‘move things along more quickly.'”

http://bit.ly/hPTFDs

Oh I remember that season of selling, 2006, they just shoved him out anywhere, here there, over and up. He was really bad at it too, I watched it all on Cspan.

And hit the ceiling when he campaigned for H Ford Jr, saying: Elect him, so I won’t b alone in the senate.

Oh please.

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

who had enjoyed dominance of the party’s national messaging operation over the last two years.

would explain why it’s such a mess.

Glad to see so many familiar names there…

Supposedly there’s talk in some quarters of a “consumer strike” beginning 12/19. People shouldn’t pay for anything but necessities. Should be easy in our household, for sure. Since that’s already all we pay for. :p

Happy fucking holidays.

9. marisacat - 10 December 2010

Bernie Sanders on his own Filibuster, Long Explanation, what ever you call it against the Tax ObRepublican Compromise of 2010… been going 2.5 hours

catnip - 10 December 2010

Good for him for keeping that promise. I read that he’s tag-teaming with Sherrod Brown.

10. marisacat - 10 December 2010

Good Luck Ob Snob and Knob.

Military Mary joined the “BernieBuster”… and BI has a piece that Grover (who hates Obby, or so he posted at Politico Arena, calls him the “contination of ll that was bad about Bush”) may sink it all.

Someone man the bucket brigade to catch all the blood.

Factions are lining up.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

Plates! Forks! KNIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BooHooHooMan - 10 December 2010

I love it! Bernie’s on a TROLL. 😆

Agit-Prop on CSPAN2!

I just called his office and suggested they send in a few orthopedic appliances and a therapeutic massage table that he could “demonstrate” from time – to – rest – time on “health care” and a few deli platters to assemble and consume in describing the work and nutrition of ordinary ‘Mrkns..etc. 😆 Go Bernie!

brinn - 10 December 2010

I’m listening to him too — is anybody in the senate chamber?? He already looks sweaty — I want him to keep on going and going! Has anyone else spoken?

marisacat - 10 December 2010

Mary L, I read she handed it back to Bernie.

But where are the few who pretended to matter? Sherrod, helloo dear? Are you there?

Russ who lost. Etc.

Helllloooooooooo dears?

brinn - 10 December 2010

Right? Fucking lot of cowards. Sanders is the ONLY voice so many of us have!! Simple shit, like the Walton family would get as much in a tax break as all of the $$ the senate just said no to for seniors’ $250….

SIMPLE shit, but no one but him will ever just fucking stand up and say it!

And the stuff about the estate tax — I inherited almost 50K from my grandfather’s estate 16 years ago and paid ZERO….

I’m worried that he’s not drinking enough water — I want to hear him say “patently insane” a few more times!! 8)

marisacat - 10 December 2010

I think the limit on inheritance tax now is 6 mil.

Which seems reasonable. Allows property, cash, etc to be free of tax.

brinn - 10 December 2010

Ok, well. I’ll take “asinine”, too! LOL!

11. marisacat - 10 December 2010

12:43 PM

I’ll be gone a couple of hours, from 2 pm Pacific time to whenever I get home – hopefully well before 4 pm, blood draw at the hospital.

Gah. It’s not far, (3 blocks) but the whole getting there, living thru it (I am bruised from knuckles to above the elbow, bth arms, from blood draws and IV “architecture”) is a lot…

so in case things sit in Mod…………

catnip - 10 December 2010

Damn vampires! Take garlic.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

oh I try to make little ”jokes”… like asking them to be a Master Vampyre… and if it is fast and painless I tell them so.

Other wise I wail.

My father, who really suffered even more from needle sticks, his advice was “Marisa, if it ever gets to be too much, just do what I do, FAINT!”.

Jesus! Papa! I said, I cannot faint with a needle in my arm. That terrifies me even more……

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

Sorry, Mcat.

I hope it’s over soon. 😦

12. brinn - 10 December 2010

Aw, sweetie! Don’t let em bruise or try to bully you! **hugs**

13. catnip - 10 December 2010

Obamalama is such a fool – claiming it’ll be easier to ditch the tax cuts for the mega-rich in 2 years when the economy is better. Which rock does he live under? If he had a clue, he’d know that the Repubs will just say then that those cuts are what improved the economy. They lie. That’s what they do. And stupid people believe them.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

well he jsut lies.

brinn - 10 December 2010

Yes. Lies, lies, and more lies.

Where ARE all of the “progressives”?!?

catnip - 10 December 2010

They’re “pragmatists” now. (That’s the new word for “sell outs”.)

marisacat - 10 December 2010

well Russ for one is fully vested in teh full retirement. Which is hardly transparent. so my guess he is huddled withhis Financial Advisor…

Madman says he has reliably heard that Russ employs good looking, very attractive types of women (I could care less) as staffers, and demands being waited on hand and footsie. 😆 Or whatever!!

🙄

The problem is everything is fake.

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

that’s what I hear from people who would know …

14. marisacat - 10 December 2010

oh wow…BBC saying in the middle of being beseiged, the Royal Rolls inexplicably lowered a passenger side window.

Geesh. You have to wonder!

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

I think it was a set-up.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

I saw the route, the car turned right down Regent St which was in a full scale melee… there is a whole warren of little side streets they could take to get where they wer headed.

diane - 10 December 2010

That semi-lowered window was visible in this pic on the Business Insider photos link from yesterday.

I thought it looked pretty odd.

marisacat - 11 December 2010

Some report I heard today said that a protester was able to thrust himself thru the lowered window and at Camilla.

YOu gotta wonder.

15. catnip - 10 December 2010

There’s Bubba on the tube supporting Obamalama’s tax deal. Don’t you guys have a game of golf to play somewhere?

marisacat - 10 December 2010

Holding hands.

Babs moves for formal adoption, Bill C happy to share the new parents with the half black kid.

All in “getting along”!

catnip - 10 December 2010

Hilarious. Obama left his own press conference because Michelle was waiting for him – leaving Bubba to take questions.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

L’Imperatice called. Subject went.

He has so checked out.

And IMO, she never checked in.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

BI has the vid……………….

Bill Clinton just filibustered President Obama at his own presser.

While Bernie Sanders continued his epic filibuster of the tax compromise on the Senate floor, President Obama brought in big dog Bill Clinton to back his tax plan.

Then walked away when Bill Clinton wouldn’t give the mic back.

Obama: “I’m gonna take off.”

Bill Clinton is STILL GOING. (Update: 4:58pm…he seems to be done). Bernie Sanders, however, is still going.

It was a terrible visual to begin with — I’m not a wussy, here’s Bill Clinton to tell you why! — that just got so. much. worse

Bernie STILL at it, KGO just cut inot the audio of him…………….

marisacat - 10 December 2010

Clinton, at White House podium, backs tax deal

In a remarkable flashback to the 1990s, former President Bill Clinton took the podium at the White House today after a meeting with President Obama, working to sell the tax cut compromise with Republicans.

Obama left the room, pleading an engagement with the First Lady, telling reporters, “you’re in good hands.”

“The agreement taken as a whole is, I believe, the best bipartisan agreement we can reach,” Clinton said in the joint appearance. “And I hope my fellow Democrats will support it.”

Clinton disputed the analogy between this year and his cooperation with Republicans after the 1994 midterms.

“The storyline is how well we worked with Republicans, but you know we played political kabuki for a year, and had two government shutodwns,” he said, adding that “the only reason we could do that” was a nascent economic recovery.

“We have to pull together and both sides are going to have to eat some things they don’t like, because we can’t afford to have the kind of impasse we had last time,” he said.

catnip - 10 December 2010

Tweety was practically orgasmic seeing those two together (and he had Mark Penn on to back him up.)

He thinks the “much beloved” image of Bubba will calm everybody down. What he couldn’t see was “Triangulate We Can!” written all over Obama’s forehead.

catnip - 10 December 2010

I had to mute that crap and go back to listening to Bernie. It was nauseating.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

I suggest they get triangle tats.

NOW. start wearing colors (purple sweats!)

Go for it boys!

catnip - 10 December 2010

Purple sweats. 😆

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

Well, when I was still hanging out on Corrente, Lambert and many of the regulars seemed to have forgotten that Billy C. was a minority Pres. They were dogged that everyone in teh Working Classes luvvvvvvvvs him forever and always.

I still remember one ignorant fuck right before Professor Lambert dismissed me, loudly proclaiming that Billy “did more for the poor than any president in my lifetime,” or some such shit. Sure. Whatever.

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

oh, he should know better.

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

I meant LAMBERT should have known better.

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

Madman, so far as I could discern, Lambert thinks we all had “peace and prosperity” under Bubba (and irrefutably BECAUSE of Bubba) and thus logically Obama is a refutation –rather than the logical continuation– of the what happened to us when Clinton I ruled.

It’s really fucking stupid and I’m better off elsewhere. Halle and Vastleft and a couple of the other worthwhile posters often show up elsewhere anyway.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

with few exceptiions it s a pack of Clintonites over there.

brinn - 10 December 2010

This is complete an utter BS. They serve fucking pizza for breakfast with these monies. They now have “whole wheat” chicken nuggets and pizza for lunch AND the thing that wants me to fucking strangle them is this:

The people in charge of lunch at my boys’ schools tell me that they are “not allowed” to tell the kids what to choose in the lunch lines, so if I send the $2.25 that lunch is supposed to cost but my child decides NOT to take the green beans, then I am charged “a la carte” prices for each thing that they DO choose and lunch can cost upwards of 4 dollars!! And they are taking $$ away from food stamps for this shit?!?! I can make my kids, both of them, lunch for a week on 5-6 dollars and healthy, ACTUAL food at that!

fuck fuck fuck fuck

brinn - 10 December 2010

er, catnip, not in response to purple sweats, but the lunch stuff above….but then you knew that, yes?

catnip - 10 December 2010

Alrighty then. I was wondering. 😉

(not really)

Aren’t you allowed to send lunch for your kids?

brinn - 11 December 2010

Yeah, I am and I do most times — just the past three weeks I have been running my ass off just to stay in one place and haven’t had the time to make them…. One more week until break and then I’ll get back on track for the new year….as I run completely out of $$ by the end of Feb. is something doesn’t change….happy fucking holidays to me!

marisacat - 10 December 2010

They just fuck with people.

😯

marisacat - 10 December 2010

is he really trying that? Or is that a euphemistic description of some dying rant………….

catnip - 10 December 2010

He read Thurber stories to his dad when he was dying in the hospital so he asked the Thurber family for permission to read them on the air every Friday.

marisacat - 10 December 2010

oh FFS.

catnip - 10 December 2010

😉

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

Thurber has never worked for me … period.

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

It’s a toss-up to me who’s more annoying/overrated: Thurber or Damon Runyon. :p

BooHooHooMan - 10 December 2010

Both are too highbrow for me.
Besides, who reads anymore?

Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

PENDANTIC is the word that comes to mind.

ms_xeno - 10 December 2010

Riiiiiight, BHHM. You just hang around here ‘cuz you’re a people person. :p

BooHooHooMan - 10 December 2010

Well people in general are over-rated when you get right down to it, as most other creatures on Earth will say, but that get’s into the whole Dr. Dolittle thing…
Heresy, I know, but there it is.

Glen Ford

Obama: The Republicans’ Reliable Interlocutor

It was an ugly performance by “an unrepentant, unreconstructed, center-right, corporate operative,” as President Obama defended his “latest grand accommodation with the GOP.” But it is incorrect to say that Obama “caves” to Republicans. His m.o. is far more aggressive – against fellow Democrats, whom he has relentlessly pummeled since his first days in office. With Obama in the White House, who needs Republicans?

marisacat - 10 December 2010

He really si stunning. And I always thought he was a cynical and dangerous Pied Piper for all the little minions who feel in love iwth him. Or fell for the Dem story telling about him.. or whatever.

But even I am stunned..

21. Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010
Madman in the Marketplace - 10 December 2010

so much in this … but here:

It can be safely said that cultural ignorance consists of the rational, sensible questions that never get asked. But it also includes the weird ones that are. For instance, one of the questions asked regarding tasering school kids is: What is the allowable weight range of a child to be tased? (Taser manufacturers say 60 pounds.) Somehow, by this geezer’s prehistoric reasoning, that sounds like the wrong question, not to mention one that by its nature leads us away from the cultural truth.

The truth is that we live in a society which sanctions semi-electrocution of its own children on the grounds that it is not fatal, and therefore not true electrocution. It springs from the same streak of cultural cruelty that deems semi-drowning by water boarding not to be torture because it is seldom fatal.

This is not to be uncharitable to American communities willing to pony up tax money for school tasers. They’ve amply demonstrated their affectionate commitment to their children by bringing creationism and pizza-for-breakfast into the schools. But there remains the question, “What kind of community comes up with the idea of tasering its own children?”

22. catnip - 10 December 2010

lol…a clip from the wingnut side:

Allahpundit / Hot Air:

Great news: Bill Clinton apparently now president again — The depressing truth: Given the alternative, it really would be great news. — I can’t do justice to what you’re about to see. The spectacle of the president bugging out of his own press conference to go to a Christmas party is weird enough …

You know Obama is fucking up when…

marisacat - 11 December 2010

Obama is just laughable.

23. diane - 10 December 2010

I hope your blood test went okay today Marisa.

I’m in and out for the night, in a really bleak mood that I don’t want to pass around. ;0(

That clinton obama bullshit was the straw. ‘They’ are so blatantly rubbing in that we have been fucked now, worse than the demented fuck yous that occured under bush/cheney.

g’night all.

marisacat - 11 December 2010

Actually it went well… I got a really nice young Chinese guy who did the blood draw… I got hsi name and the hours he works… and I can request him when I go for blood draws (twice every fucking week for months) – and I can even request him to come to a hospital bed (not that I am planning on that!).

I came home in sheer relief, crashed to bed in sheer relief..

diane - 11 December 2010

I’m so glad that went as well as it did for you honey. ;0)

marisacat - 11 December 2010
