Moving this forward from the end of the last thread:

From Ganjified Gabacho:

Not to be argumentative, but when I see TPers breaking up civil gatherings (e.g. the moveon.org picnic in Oregon or the death panel screamers from health care “reform debate”) I get a creepy feeling that makes Godwin’s Rule irrelevant to me.

The Minutemen, (or as Lulz has shown are now supereceded by”blue lights” marine contract killers link) OR and their ilk are very dangerous because they have been given freehand (and free funding) to act out violently. If we actually start having difficulty maintaining full grocery stores (something that won’t happen tommorrow but seems to be the direction groping towards) then these TPers will be be ready to take their guns and take control (c.f. bridges out of NO after Katrina).

I guess I’ve got a bit of a anti-bully complex. I went through a Lord Jim moment when I was 10 or so and I failed to stand up for a friend when the bully came for him. I felt so bad I’ve been jumping into volcanoes ever since. Maybe I look to hard to blow up schoolyard bullies into montstrous boogeymen, but I know a bully when I see one and to me they’re all potential violent and definetely dangereous

I think anything can rise from any group, one reason I dislike and avoid, with a passion, groups.

OUR system tho is bullying. Both sides. And a weak non existant (almost, but for a small dedicated slice) Left.

I jsut see the Tea Party as a tool. Like so many in operation from the R side.

It has not helped that I just heard 30 mins of Barbara Lee doing the tired rant… all the way up and thru a litany of racism and how tough it is for Our National Foundling… I call him that as the premise is we are to take him in and care for him and protect him… Bullfuckingshit…. (Barbara Lee, who owes her political life to Ron Dellums, a step and fetchit of the old school, 20 or so terms in the House then a gift to him from the Democratic party of Oakland, Mayor for a hapless laughable term, where he did mindless alzheimer’d Stepping and Fetching… with a similar version of Latino as his Lt Mayor. I am so sick of it all … but FIRST I was sick of the Irish and Italian and Jewish bosses )

And the Black Caucus just sealed the deal of my lack of interest in Tea Party. What a scene. Move-On is a wholly owned lackey of the Dems… what MAY have been a not bad idea 13 or so years ago has morphed to tired insiders gaming the dumbfuck Left… etc.

It’s like the NYT reported and well documented buy off of the organised anti war by the Democratic Party in the process of the ascension to leadership of the House in 2006… a million over there, 2 milllion over there.. and quiet was bought.

Frankly right now, I care not at all that theTea Partiers harrassed some Move Ons.

May they bite each other to death on the Champ de Mars. Where we are stuck, on a Field of Endless War….. Thanks to the rigged “debate” – non breathing non conversations that get amplified.

Ganjafied Gabacho - 5 August 2011

Yeah the various “groups” are full of folks ready to con, cut throats, and sell out any legitmacy they have in their personal bids to elevate themselves to the front porch to sip mint julips and watch their field hands toiling away,

But many well intentioned “average americans” join these groups in the blind faith that it may affect progressive change (or at least provide compatriots to commiserate with).

Admittedly blind faith is not just worthless, but actually couterproductive. However, the many working stiffs just trying to maintain home and family in this rat race don’t usually have the wherewithal to do more than pay cursory attention and throw some spare change at Dems/moveon/etc. groups that are ostensibly progressive.

We all know that democracy demands that the public pays very close attention to function at all, and obviously if your not a 1%er and you’re supporting either the Dems or any of the other handmaidens to power your nearly comatose. But as a new Dad I can honestly say many days I could see how living in the coma would be easier…

Okay, fuck it. No use trying to call shit souffle; they’re little more a bunch of slaughtered sheep waiting for the vultures to come pick clean the bones…

marisacat - 5 August 2011

well, good-intentioned people join lots of things. one thing about america, the so-called educated class falls for a lot… and the Dems have tried and true ways of roping people in.

Much of the rhetoric on view, both ”sides” – and almost all factions of both ”sides” – is just retail politics… designed to appeal to the carved out factions each party claims – and sort of maintains. Ruse and play acting….

In some ways the selling of Slobby was inspired… but I am beginning to think somr dam broke .. some levee was topped in the course of Debt Ceiling Derby….

We;ll see.

marisacat - 5 August 2011

When I read this in the post at Boing Boing… I wondered, how long til there is a retired (or hell active) IDF cohort down there. With all their extensive border and wall and gun tower experience.

There are countless mundane documents covering hours worked, officers’ personal information and other stuff of minimal journalistic interest. But the bulletins often offer fascinating stories of law enforcement encounters, such as this one with off-duty Marines patrolling the U.S.-Mexico border with assault weapons.

“In other incidents reported in October, U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered two subjects who claimed to be members of the Border Watch Group the Blue Lights based on the Caballo Loco Ranch. The subjects, armed with pistols and at least one M4 rifle, were dressed in full desert camouflage uniforms, similar to those of the United States military. They stated they were not members of the Minutemen, but paid contract employees who “get the job done” and “were not just volunteers”. They possessed valid United States Marine Corps identification cards.”

Ganjafied Gabacho - 5 August 2011

They Israelis are prolly already here. Raytheon does a lot of RD between Tucson and Mexico. The Jewish Community Center, itself fort like, has low key walled compound on its expanisve property tucked off to the side of its property. City of Tucson let them block a through street to shunt people away from the compounds gates and into a mazelike parking lot. There are lots of cameras visible, gaurding bungalos situated on a garden like campus, all hidden on high rent realty in a highrent section of town…

There are and have been white vans full of beige colored camoed dudes carrying assault riffles. They drive around late night in the border regions. Often right inside neighborhoods. They conducted a raid of some sort here in a barrio in Tucson at 3 am last fall. Never saw nothing on the news, but the cops were parked across the street watching the whole thing, not participating, but watching like average folks watch a football game…I don’t know but I think they’resome sort of “pinkertons;” Wackenhut has marked surveillance vans that bristle attenae like a hedgehogs and creep around the streets of Nogales…

Verdict back in the Danziger Bridge killings in the immediate aftermath of Katrina:

NEW ORLEANS — A federal jury found five current or former police officers guilty in the deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina.

Four of the officers were convicted of civil rights violations in the shootings that killed two people and wounded four others on the Danziger Bridge less than a week after the 2005 storm.

All five were convicted with participating in a cover-up that prosecutors said included a planted gun, falsified reports and fabricated witnesses.

However, the jury decided that neither fatal shooting was a murder …

Not Murder?!

but, but, but

Federal prosecutors say police shot unarmed people without justification.

Replace police with “Leroy Washington” or “Juan Andrade” and how hard would it be to achieve murder conviction

Cop worship. I hate it. Fucking TV programming the populace to believe the thugs in blue are some sort of demigods…

marisacat - 5 August 2011

it was murder… In the one case they chased him down and shot him int he back iirc… and all around the world, because I posted on it at the time, the NOPD gave a series of absolute lies and hysterical stories about what happened on the bridge. I posted 5 distinct differnt stories they told… Despite bizarre made up stories, it was often some form of two sided shoot out, with no cops involved.

Geesh Please. It was murder…

Former sitcom star Roseanne Barr says she’s running for president. Barr made the announcement during the taping of Thursday’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno…

Of course the aritcle brings up the possibility she’s trying to promote her new reality show, but who really gives a fuck if she’s just self promoting. All of the contestants and the current winner aren’t different in that regard. Besides I like the cut of her jib…

Microsoft IT Hiring Problems Bogus, Say Programmers

Workers’ advocates say that if big tech companies are having a tough time finding qualified employees it’s only because they are limiting their searches to younger, less expensive workers.

“Experienced IT workers who are over 40 years old have a hard time even getting noticed by companies like Microsoft,” said Rennie Sawade, communications director for WashTech, an affiliate of the Communications Workers of America. “They’re really after the younger, more inexpensive workers.”

Sawade also rejects claims by Microsoft and other high-tech employers that more experienced IT workers are not getting hired because they lack skills in hot new areas like cloud and mobility. “I doubt the ones they are bringing over on H-1B visas necessarily have those skills. They give them a three-week crash course and then call them a Java programmer.”

Sullivatio

Here are the political accomplishments: defeating the most heavily favored party machine in decades (the Clintons) while actually bringing his biggest rival into his cabinet, where she has performed extraordinarily well; helping to cement the GOP’s broad identity as extremists opposed to compromise; entrenching black and Hispanic loyalty to his party; retaining solid favorables and not-too-shabby approval ratings during the worst recession since the 1930s. 44 percent of the country still (rightly) blame Bush for this mess, only 15 percent blame Obama.

Fine, Andrew, still into the not-too-shabby chic thing politically.
But crackled crap is crackled crap,

So Let’s move right to the skank shameless lying and cheap l’il butt-humpery. (A feature not a benefit!}

On policy: ending the US torture regime; prevention of a second Great Depression; enacting universal healthcare; taking the first serious steps toward reining in healthcare costs; two new female Supreme Court Justices; ending the gay ban in the military; ending the Iraq war; justifying his Afghan Surge by killing bin Laden and now disentangling with face saved; firming up alliances with India, Indonesia and Japan as counter-weights to China; bailing out the banks and auto companies without massive losses (and surging GM profits); advancing (slowly) balanced debt reduction without drastic cuts during the recession; and financial re-regulation.

Yes, there have been failures. The election of Scott Brown; the 2010 mid-terms; the surrender to Netanyahu and AIPAC; the botched and ill-conceived war in Libya; the failure to embrace Bowles Simpson up-front; the collapse of cap and trade (maybe not such a bad thing anyway). But notice what hasn’t happened. Where are all the scandals promised by Michelle Malkin? Where are his Katrinas and Monicas?

When I read commentaries expounding on the notion that this man is completely out of his depth, I just have to scratch my head. Given his inheritance, this has been the most substantive first term since Ronald Reagan’s. And given Obama’s long-game mentality, that is setting us up for a hell of a second one.

marisacat - 5 August 2011

hmmm what does one say anymore. One thing, when Sully got nabbed smoking weed in a national park a few years ago, about which he will say very very little… a second tier atty from the DOJ appeared to defend him in Federal court… it was a Federal offense as it was federal land.

I read several commentaries saying they had never seen that before… a second tier from DOJ to defend a pundit (I say operative) over a charged Federal offense.

So you know. Screw, re screw…

Ganjafied Gabacho - 6 August 2011

That is bizarre; a DOJ defending while a DOJ attorney prosecutes. Huh? Isn’t that some kind of conflict of interest?

And why go to court at all? I got a pot smoking ticket in a national forest in Oregon and all I had to do was pay $200 fine. In fact all I had to do was pay $50 because I claimed I was indigent. And the plea deal was reached over the phone and I never went to court. I never even talked to an actual prosecuting attorney, but some kind of summer intern.

I know I’m not alone in this “kid glove” treatment. Generally speaking the Feds don’t really give a damn about small quantitites and just issue fines. Here in baja AZ the Feds plead all first time offender MJ busts under 200lbs recieve to 1 year probation.

Perhaps Sully didn’t want a misdemeanor on his record but why go to court? Couldn’t they make it just disappear? Unless he got caught with more than 4 ounces not even the pig that busted him would likely protest a discreet dismisal…

On and on it goes… where it ends…………

Obama Justice Department is Hiding Something on Malcolm X Murder

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford

“The Justice Department is engaged in stonewalling that is equal to a coverup of its institutional involvement in Malcolm’s elimination.”

The Obama administration’s Justice Department says there is no compelling reason to reopen the investigation into the assassination of Malcolm X. More precisely, Attorney General Eric Holder’s people claim “the matter” of Malcolm’s death “does not implicate federal interests sufficient to necessitate the use of scarce federal investigative resources.” With such cold, contemptuous bureaucratese, the first Black Attorney General, serving at the pleasure of the first Black President, dismisses the 1965 murder of the guiding spirit of Black America’s 1960s Freedom Movement as not worth the cost. . . . . .

9. Ganjafied Gabacho - 6 August 2011

Krugman says that S+P was “just making things up” when it downgraded US credit:

Just to make it perfect, it turns out that S&P got the math wrong by $2 trillion, and after much discussion conceded the point — then went ahead with the downgrade.

More than that, everything I’ve heard about S&P’s demands suggests that it’s talking nonsense about the US fiscal situation.

I’ve heard a lot of whinning about the downgrade, but why didn’t Oobster et al. jam the financial crisis down the rating companies throats when the mortgage derivative market collapsed….oh yeah Oobster is their house servant and dared not….

Man, somebody in the ether didn’t like me bummin about the whole short-trip in Afghanistan today.. Ah well, plenty of friendly other hot-spots to go around..

via ZeroHedge:

China has released a scathing op-ed in Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency , in which the authors waste no time to humiliate a “debt-ridden Uncle Sam” following the S&P downgrade, in the most violent surge in the recent war of words between the ascendent and descendent superpowers.

Some choice selections:

“Dagong Global, a fledgling Chinese rating agency, degraded the U.S. treasury bonds late last year, yet its move was met then with a sense of arrogance and cynicism from some Western commentators. Now S&P has proved what its Chinese counterpart has done is nothing but telling the global investors the ugly truth”,

Also found among an assortment of delicious digs-

,

China, the largest creditor of the world’s sole superpower, 😆 {N I C E ™ !} 😆 .

has every right now to demand the United States to address its structural debt problems and ensure the safety of China’s dollar assets.

::

Thus, if no substantial cuts were made to the U.S. gigantic military expenditure and bloated social welfare costs, the downgrade would prove to be only a prelude to more devastating credit rating cuts, which will further roil the global financial markets all along the way.

How you say “firewood” in China?
