Egypt to free Queens kid
Israel OKs prisoner swap

A Queens law student held in an Egyptian jail for the past four months as an accused Israeli spy will be released under a prisoner exchange agreed to yesterday between Israeli and Egyptian officials.

“I’m very happy and elated,” said Daniel Grapel, whose son Ilan, 27, was picked up by Egyptian security forces in June and charged with gathering intelligence on the revolution that swept Hosni Mubarek from power.

Israel will free 25 Egyptian detainees, described as law breakers or minors — not terrorists — in exchange for Grapel, a dual American-Israeli citizen, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

[Picture] SOLDIERING ON: Ilan Grapel, an Emory law student who was accused of spying, poses in his Israeli paratrooper’s uniform.

No “guarantee” until release.

The deal, which still must be approved by the rest of Israel’s security cabinet, comes on the heels of the release of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier held by Hamas for five years in captivity, in exchange for 1,027 terrorists and sympathizers.

Grapel was interning with a refugee resettlement organization when he was detained and was further accused of inciting protests against the Egyptian military.

Friends and family scoffed at the charges, pointing out that he posted pictures of himself in his Israel Defense Forces uniform in Tahrir Square on Facebook — something a covert operative wouldn’t likely do.

Still, his family remains cautious about his impending freedom.

“We have to wait until he actually crosses the line, so to speak, and until that there is no 100 percent guarantee,” the elder Grapel, 60, warned outside the family’s Oakland Gardens, Queens, home.

They only visited him once and had occasional phone calls since his detention.

“Physically he is okay,” Grapel’s father said. “But, mentally its hard to say over the phone.”

Throughout Grapel’s ordeal he was backed by Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Queens).

“From the beginning, I was assured by the highest levels in Israel that in no way did Ilan have anything to do with espionage, the Mossad or any other type of spy agency,” Ackerman said. “Ilan is a wonderful young man who loves Egypt and the Egyptian culture.”

Grapel had interned for Ackerman in his Bayside office in the summer of 2002.

He is currently a student at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta and served as a paratrooper in the IDF.

Ackerman said he was wounded in Israel’s 2006 war in Lebanon.

And take the folks and Rahm and Ackerman with ya.

and all the Zioinist lousy asses on….

Fuckin perfect. Not only is the kid a combatant in the UN condemned Israeli war on Lebanon, he has a slot in Law School and is a Congressional intern for another DUAL. Just perfect.

Oh Ya. Petition Congress for Change. 🙄

Apparently, if you follow a link to a NY Times article, it doesn’t count against your cap. I’ve been googling the title of the article I want to read, and getting in free.

oh what a useful tidbit… thanks!!

5. Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

That photo is spectacular, btw. It’s like you can see a weird light that only the truly deranged emanate. It looks like the air around her is virtually crackling with the special kind of crzay energy and all the press see it but are conciously avoiding aknowledgement that there a fucking lunatic they’re all focused on.

She really is crazy.

And i think all of this Democratic ranks oozing:

mumble mumble grumble grumble I shouda voted for Hillary in the primaries. WHAT was I thinking.

BTW cleaning out Oakland Occupy hit at 4:30 this morning… I slept from 3:30 to about 8 or so, so I am catching up now. Must be a couple of hundred police STILL on the streets.

I am sure San Jose and SF soon to follow.

Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

I caught the vid of that. Of course the more they crackdown the more fuel they toss on the fire. We’ve had to unplug from the scene here in Tucson a little, I’m trying to get ready to head to SC for my buddy’s memorial and I’ve got to work if I want to feed mi changito. But from what I’ve heard while the occupation is still growing, the tickets keep comming and the court hearings have started (with stellar representation,IMHO):

From OccupyTucson Facecrack page

Day 10, approx 259 citations to Occupiers at Armory Park and Pancho Villa Park; 50 tents at Armory with 100 occupiers; $259,000 in collective maximum penalties amassed by American citizens exercising their constitutional rights to assemble peacefully and free speech. Keep the faith, stay strong in the struggle… Way to go, Tucson!

Hard out there for a simp.

Corzine’s MF Global Drops by Most Since 2008

MF Global Holdings Ltd. (MF), the futures broker that had its credit rating cut yesterday to the lowest investment grade, reported its largest-ever quarterly loss, sending shares down the most since June 2008.

Excluding costs from restructuring, deferring tax asset valuations and retiring debt, the loss was 9 cents a share, missing the 5-cent average profit estimate of 11 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Oh c’mon, GS Bloomburghers in Wonderland.
You were all high on the mushroom tea to begin with..
Who actually bought Corzine could make a nickel on his own?
It’s gotten to the point where there are global day trading ARMIES out there contrarily clued in enough to quickly (financial term now) straddle whatever GS and their circle are selling…

Back to the 70% LOSS Since August Guy
Almost 40% Today!

Chief Executive Officer Jon Corzine, 64, who helped run Goldman Sachs Group Inc. from 1994 to 1999 and was governor of New Jersey and an ex-U.S. senator, is attempting to turn MF Global into a medium-sized investment bank. He’s failing 😆 to convince investors that he can transform the broker into a Wall Street contender, as it has dropped 70 percent since Aug. 1, compared with a 16 percent decline in an index of 11 securities broker-dealers.

“MF’s results are severely below expectations,” 😆
Ed Ditmire, an analyst with Macquarie Group Ltd. in New York, wrote in a note to clients. “It’s very likely that MF expectations need to be recalibrated lower over the near-term.” 😆 Ditmire had expected it to earn 3 cents a share on an adjusted basis.

MF Global Plunge

MF Global plunged 37.5 percent to $2.22 at 10:36 a.m. in New York trading. That’s the largest drop since June 2008 and is down from $9.21 on Jan. 10.

“Without question the quarterly market conditions were as difficult 😆 as I have experienced in my 30 years” in finance, Corzine said on a conference call with analysts, excluding the 2008 credit crisis when he was governor of New Jersey.

The company earns money by charging interest on client funds it holds that back futures trades. Corzine said the Federal Reserve target interest rate, which has been between zero and 0.25 percent since late 2008, makes the futures brokerage business challenging.

“We’re vigorously and actively reviewing options that will allow us to get to scale” in the futures brokerage business, he said. Corzine didn’t answer when an analyst asked on the conference call about how competing futures brokers appeared in terms of business combinations.

Bottom line is this: without a HUGE surge of money injected into Wall Street’s Casino, Corzine’s services as a croupier are done. Hell, The brokerage commish hustle in general is done. .. What I’d be interested to know in detail is the full extent of their proprietorially held off-books derivatives.
(Of course Corzine would, too, I guess 😆 )
(Fucker lost 70% – 70! – 70% year-to-date. 😆 )

Aw hell, that’s why they continue to reincarnate these hustles
Their brokerage operations, while giving them vehicle to criminally transport politically aquired Sheepfunds to commission slaughterhouse , more importantly, Potemkin, it buys them leverage and time along the way to play their market impressario games. Which kinda sucks now, the market being broke’d, the EU and Asia bein pretty much de-impressario’d and all now….

So it should be fun to see how many of these heretofore reportedly “smartest guys in the room” like Corzine are sitting on razors edge and where and why…. Seems to me, however you slice it, whether they have the fix in here, assume they do, say, with a certain peg to the Fed, well, whatever assumptions they built into previously constructed positions simply aren’t holding in Europe and Asia. Not in Athens. Not in Brussels. They’re Riot-in-Rome not. They can’t. And who knows why? Too much mushroom tea in the Black Forest is as good a’congealied, mix metaphored, deleveraged explanation as any…

Anyways, you know something’s up when every Hi-Fi- explodiing head in the West forms chorus of Reductio ad Hitlerum, going all Argumentum ad Nazium towards Merkel now…

Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

always luv your analysis booHHMan,but… ‘shroom tea taking the blame for the insanity of banksters is offensive to a mycophile, like myself…

Psychedelics are a sacred panacea of peace and enlightenment. that are all good 😎

Deluded psychedelized banksters consuming themselves after exhausting their prey is as likely as getting high on ‘shrooms and sacrificing other people at the apex of stone pyramid (or in a Beverly Hills mansion) 😈

Well ‘shroom tea (don’t mind if I DO! 😆 :wink)

Gosh Charlie just gets so much negativity. People forget, he never killed anyone. And what’s a swastika between friends? He couldn’t control his women. Not a lifetime in jail offense. Who could have seen it coming?

Only affordable if you arrive with your twin.

BooHooHooMan - 25 October 2011

Under the old plan tho,

Not to mention dental.

Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

yeah I think given the NAMBLA discount I get because of being a Recovering Catholic indentureship/retirement in some Vatican Manse might be affordable.and there is nothing like the smell of dead altar boy in the morning

BooHooHooMan - 25 October 2011

Well that’s the thing, you can get the Mengele Extended under the Holy Father Indulgence Plus Plan.

And they waive everything as a pre-existing condition: Multiple Millenia of Misogyny, Dead Alter Boys, Indigenous People, Global Genociders, WHATEVER!

Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

…Not to mention dental.

Can you combine the Megele, Father indulgence and C.M. Manson Mental (they get the best meds)?

8. marisacat - 25 October 2011

Slobster finally showed up for the lunch here in SF (7,500 per ticket).. think he ran 1 or two hours late. He slunk in the back door too.

Not sure where the bankster’s toyboy goes next. (Denver, it turns out)

but not licking bankster boot
(the only thing he gave a hoot)

“I think I could be more whored,
or maybe, completely ignored.
So I’ll demand you give me more loot
( whilst you lick my Tsar horse’s patut )
and the world and nation go kaput….er….Kapooot!

marisacat - 25 October 2011

made me laugh… 😆

FWIW he is coming in for a lot of ridicule on his visit…. esp slamming the local media by locking them out, running late, then later (over 2 hours late for “lunch”), then slinking in the back door. Photogs banned at the high ticket fundraise in LA but invited along for the slog to a waffles and chicken place.

Bet the people in waffle land don’t know he APOLOGISED up front to the high ticket buyers IF HE SMELLED OF CHICKEN. No really he did.

He just should have apologised for going to chicken alley and been done with it.

What a FUCKER.

Ganjafied Gabacho - 25 October 2011

One of the greatest miracles performed by his Imperial “post-racial”-ness (Hobama in the HIGEST!!!) is that He’s (the deliverer of America!!!) made “step and fetchit ” tres chic again At least a pisss poor imitation thereof.

When He ( child of hawaii and the indonesia) decides to go “black,” attempts to signify, shrilly tries to “preach” and starts dropping His “g’s” i can’t decide whether I want to through a shoe at the tv or if I want to puke. Beyond the truly frightening implications of his insulting impersonations, they suck. My kocksucking prep-year roommate from the hell known as boarding school came from a kocksucking Mayflower family , he had a stick so far up his I’m not sure he ever shat, but he still did a better amos and andy than Him

Fuking H.”Uncle Ruckus” Cain is less of an bad joke..
I’m just so tired of Him (/sigh)

marisacat - 25 October 2011

He has so many problems it is not even funny. OH IF ONLY the missing father had been white. And he had been left with a certifiable black chicken eating mother who was on Food Stamps. And a truly ne’er do well Grannie.

I think that would have suited him so much better. And IF ONLY the second father, oh if only he too had been a white oil co executive and not the cheap local dressing those companies put on salary..

It seems to me in his confusion he finds reasons to hate everyone but rich white men. he really is pathetic…

5 NYPD officers arrested in gun-smuggling sting

AP correspondent Warren Levinson reports eight present and former police officers are said to be under arrest.
Map of police gun deaths

NEW YORK (AP) — Five New York Police Department officers smuggled firearms and slot machines they thought were stolen and some even used bolt cutters to pilfer hundreds of boxes of cigarettes from tractor-trailers as part of a 12-person theft ring that was under federal surveillance the entire time, authorities said Tuesday.

Three retired NYPD officers and a New Jersey correction officer are among the other defendants named in a federal criminal complaint alleging an undercover agent paid them more than $100,000 to moonlight as gun runners while under FBI surveillance. Three current officers also participated in a brazen theft of cigarettes they were told were worth $500,000, the complaint says.

Mayor Michael Bl 😯 <b>berg has long targeted illegal smuggling of guns into the city 😳 and said that, if the accusations are true, the officials engaged in “a disgraceful and deplorable betrayal of the public trust.” 😆

The men were eager and willing to smuggle the weapons and commit other crimes “so long as the price was right,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said at a news conference announcing the arrests.

Clean THAT, Motherfucker.

Hungry for Jobs and for Change, Scientists Join the Occupy Movement

I had heard about the protests on the news, and hadn’t paid too much attention. But as I drove by the crowd, a sign held by one of the protesters caught my eye:

“PhD ≠ job.”

That’s a shorthand way of saying what has become all too familiar to us scientists: lengthy training and academic credentials no longer suffice to launch a career in science.

This message is a new tone in the Occupy movement’s chord.

Brandie Cross held the sign. She is in the 5th year of a PhD program in biochemistry at The Johns Hopkins University. Her specialty is breast cancer, a traditionally well-funded specialty. But she’s sure her job prospects are dim. “I’d like to start my own biotech company. I have tons of inventions, and I want to be funded by NIH. But there’s no money.”

I also spoke with Dr. Troy Rubin, a neuroscientist at Johns Hopkins who also showed up at the protest, and I heard a different angle; Rubin was more worried about the long-term future of America. I asked him why he was participating and he said, “We live in a society where wisdom is less appreciated than money. An economically driven society is fundamentally unsustainable.”

The Occupy protestors view corporate greed and the disproportionate power of the wealthiest 1% of Americans as the causes of a wide range of problems in America. Since September, protests have sprung up in more than one hundred cities around the country. Baltimore is a small city with many institutions of research and higher learning, so perhaps it makes sense that Baltimore’s version of the Occupy movement would involve scientists.

marisacat - 25 October 2011

I am glad it is spreading but Miss Brandie needs a head check. Over gaming CAN indeed FAIL. Want s to be funded by the NIH. Geesh.
