From a very beautiful gallery at Telegraph on winners of the European Wildlife Photog of 2011, with various categories. Many were stunning – esp sleeping whales, for one… others were too macabre or sad to use, tho amazing.
I stopped at this one and laughed, as for diversion tonight I watched James Ellroy’s documentary on murder, Feast of Death, mostly his mother’s murder and the Black Dahlia. We are deep in Los Angeles noir film land, of course… and police procedure, the classic policier film, novel and non-fiction.
Along the way he digresses and tells a tale on Jack Kennedy that he got from an LA PI, former cop, who bugged the Lawford party house on the beach, to get the goods on Jack and Marilyn for Hoffa.
Said Jack was “hung like a cashew”. Ellroy is quite good with ribald slang (I noticed some reviewers at Netflix really were turned off by that… I cannot imagine what they expected ).
Kept me diverted this evening anyway…

oh here is a tidbit of free-floating depression… the first of the debris from Fukushima has made landfall – up in Washington state. Something the size of a 55 gallon oil drum. Sigh… or maybe they said it IS a 55 gal oil drum.

well maybe…my dad was an engineer on the stealth bomber and fighter. back in the 80’s…he claims the wings are made out of “duct tape”; carbon fiber backing, laid down in layers that are at right angles to each other…

There is barely any real discussion that the nation is drained for war, day in and day out. It is sometimes referred to in a distant, vague way, but not pursued. The entire media, rigth and fake left, supports war.
Much less any real writing, dramatisation, discussion of the utter violence and horror of war. I think the strong reinforcement that Iraqis are heathens, as are Afghanis, Pakistanis… Yemenis. Egyptians in Tahrir Sq, while we tolerate them and on off days may laud them, namelessly facelessly – maybe protesters we say perhaps Mubarak goons but we can’t be “sure”!, “they” raped Lara Logan. Etc. Libya was, is a complete white wash. Anything but the lies barely exist in the media here.
We mumble day in and day out about how there is nothing to see here, just the rise of Islamism.
