If anyone here is running norton internet security or a like program, you might be getting blocked from occupywallst.org – I actually looked at the log and it appears a few facebook marketing scams have been attached to their site, which Norton considers a threat. There’s nothing malicious attached to the site as I went there anyway and didn’t get any more warnings. I’m guessing that this is due to persons either not wanting OWS message to get out on the web, or perhaps laxness in vetting who links stuff to their site.
Oh thank you for that! I don’t run Norton, so I did not get the block….
talk about meaningless “reform”: BART cops get shirt-pocket snitch-cams
they won’t be working.
They’ll work when appropriate to law and order.
Our so special BART cops… trained and all by the IDF. Retired IDF, I should be clear!

So… I take it Charles Pierce wants no disruption of the Re Election Train? All for Obby?
One thing is sure, all the bitching and moaning in def of Ob… but he is going ot have to take his lumps, like all the rest of them.
Geesh. Special rules, talk about making all the old slobber from the Right about Special Rules for special people appear absolutely REAL.
He thinks Obby will take the union’s side? Ahahahahahah!
god, but people are confused.
seems that he does … I was just amazed that this is the first mention I’ve come across of a possible rail strike.
I have heard no mention of it… none.
one would think it was important news …
And Re-Election Season is ON!
snicker. I don’t think it is going to cut it…. but ….

People Magoops no Politico!Oh TOO FUNNY! They did dcide that “towels and cleaning supplies” did not work….
Maybe one of hte children needs to get a horse and call it… Oh I don’t know. Spaghetti. Macaroni?
It was hard keeping my food down reading that Politico fluffing article.
Wasn’t it disgusting?
It reminded me f a piece, far worse, in the run-up to election… I think during the GE part. Massive slobber about Michelle O (Mother Vegtable) AND assassination from Michelle Cottle in The New Republic…. I think it was the slobberiest piece of political writing i Have ever read.
AND included a colored drawing of Michelle O in the Jackie Kennedy pink pill box hat from November 22.
Unfuckingbelievable. I did a piece on the article at the time… if I find it will link to it.
just a test
strikeBack, and still laughing about the Target Hummingbird Drones comment, that was priceless, and I sure needed those smiles, thanks ;0).
Think I’ll print out that CounterPunch piece you commented about on the last thread, U.S. Lags Far Behind in Worker Protection, and pass out copies.
(By the way of which hon, for whatever reason, it looks like they switched the date noted in the url address from the 29th to the 30th, as the article’s url now reads: http://www.counterpunch.org/2011/09/30/u-s-lags-far-behind-in-worker-protection/. The initial link, with the 29th, http://www.counterpunch.org/2011/09/29/u-s-lags-far-behind-in-worker-protection/, is now rerouting to an older, unrelated article.)
oh what a pain in the ass. I mean, screwing with the URL.
Back, and still laughing about the Target Hummingbird Drones comment

hmmm very entertaining.. a news update is saying that many people report they cannot access their BofA accounts online…
Well whoops, if accurate.

From the Daily Mail
Predatory assholes, I hope millions pull their money out and put it in Credit Unions.
There are some good shots of Occupy Wallstreet at The Atlantic, with a few of today’s San Francisco protest near the bottom.
(hat tip to dead dancer)
Oh yum yum….
Hedges has a post up on OWS and he offers up a site that is tracking all the spreading “occupy” events across the nation…
While I agree with much of Chris stated in that post, I was disappointed at his finger wagging (which I don’t (at all) see being done by the wonderful people who’ve inhabited Wall Street in protest), and I wish he had responded to this comment:
and yeah, I have to admit – having witnessed the hideous third world military force at the Mehserle verdict protest, in Oaktown Cali, where Chris and McGovern, et al … didn’t show up (and at least 152 of us were kettled …(though one of the cell guards stated they had 170 plus arrestees from that evening, so it could have been even more)) and having watched the young neighborhood woman having horrifying panic attacks in the cell (clearly forswearing the next protest) when we were cat and moused as to whether we would be released by the coming work morn, and held for near 24 hours in unlawful detainment – I kind of snickered a tiny bit at the protest he was in, with the Big Names ™ where, to my recollect, Chris, Ray McGovern and others agreed to be arrested [for a rather short period] ™ (I recollect reading that there was a disbursement offer given, though I can’t find a link) we were allowed no such agreement to disburse from a peaceful protest, and none of us had the kind of connections to relieve us from the horror of an arrest record and multiple jailee photos and three sets of prints floating around, nor the type of connected jobs where the boss will actually ignore the fact that you’ve been arrested because you’re so well known, they’ll get heat for it.)
I think he could have, and certainly should have, alleviated the scorn, by just stating that whatever people were able to do, they should try to do it, ASAP. After all, I haven’t read of any similar Finger Wagging from any of the wonderful people who have been occupying Wall Street.
sorry, jus sayin he needs to acknowledge certain realities of people living a far more difficult existence than him. I’m not at all saying he’s an OP, and I love much of what he states, ….I’m just saying he really hasn’t bothered to meditate on certain realities …. for people far less fortunate in life than him.
Lastly, The October 6th movement, with so many professional protesters on board, with their prior DC Positions and Ivy League Professorships, who seem to somehow survive just fine, with their “arrest” records, should make every attempt possible to enlist pro bono attorneys to expunge records of the unlawfully detained and note that fact clearly.
sorry, the last two paragraphs, were my thoughts, I neglected to end the blockquote>
fixed… I slept untill just a bit ago… so it took a while to get Moderated and clean up done…
😉
(thank you honey ;0) )
Hedges is in a bubble.. he really is. That was the first I had read of his in probably over a year (sometime before I landed in the hospital, anyway)…. I dropped the Truthdig email newsletter because of two stupid postings from Eugene Robinson and that other idiot, Ruth Marcus… ages ago.
And I had come to really dislike McGovern in a big way… I think he is just one more CIA plant to get little lefties to think there is ANYTHING good at all about the intelligence services and in particular the many CIA wars (al Aulaqi anyone?) I think he is a hoax basically.
And BOTH McG and Hedges are big religious mutterers…. McGovern NEVER misses a chance to include in writings (at the close) or appearances (usually part of hte introduction from the show host) what a big Xtian he is, and to name the group he is active in DC. I say, RETIRE somewhere fucking ELSE!. But I see he stays close to the CIA…
Yes, there is a high stench to the Connected White 99.99999999% Male Patriarchy ….who Agree to be Arrested ™ … yet seem to live fully funded lives that don’t encompass a moldy cardboard box under a bridge where many of the wiser, should have been allowed to teach the youth, are now residing.
and those ensnared …inlcuded people just visiting their neighbors …everyone on the block who didn’t own a home there …and there were no offers, whatsoever, ….. to call that attorney … (of course, they knew: most, if not all ‘had no attorney’ … couldn’t afford one if they wanted to ‘have an attorney’) ….. NONE, … no offers, …. to make that call ….. for safety, ….protection from INJUSTICE.
uh, she is making a lot assumptions there. And carrying a right wing trope, meme, theme that is still used.
If she wants to make it a white black game, I’d challenge her to figure out ANGELA DAVIS’ life. A conundrum if ever there was one. I have no clue who she batted for, or why she lives and George Jackson died… just one point.
I’ve been watchcing Carlos the Franco German several hours long 2010 movie on the 70s 80s terrorist (it has shown on Sundance and on PPV with one of the cable companies here)…. and I watched all the “extras”, the background stuff, attached interviews and documentaries….
Ilich Ramirez Sanchez (Carlos) went to university in Moscow as his father was an avowed Communist… at Patrice Lumumba Univ …. and btw, few know that so did Angela Davis and on a US funded ticket – – – – -which I have no problem with…. any of it…. Communist parents (who cares)… or a US paid free education at a Moscow U…. but COME ON…. not exactly the norm.
So many suiffered and lost and, in the extreme, died in the 60s…People who protested at the Oakland Induction Center against the Vietnam troop draft were kicked and spit on and manhandled and arrested… daily, just one example… so I am not sure where the commenter is coming from on her assumptions….
Last, I never noticed that Hedges replies to comments… he mayhave but it sure has never been his norm.
Oh I agree that she made assumptions that were totally untrue, …. victim to the conquer and divide …?
or,
and I agree it’s very possible, she could be a ReTHUG OP, though also possible she’s not.
whatever the case is, I thought there were many valid points made, re many of the Professional Agree to be Jailed Crew. ™
i have no idea if she is a plant or operative but i am SO tired of that propaganda. Look at the four who died at Kent… at the ones who died less famously at … the Jackson campus was it?
Yeah, the propaganda has been absolutely lethal, self perpetuating, for one of a multitude of examples: odds are at least equal the commenter is white versus black ….
oh I have no idea if she is black or white…it hardly matters by now…
yes, I’ve never seen him respond to any comments at TruthDig either. I can’t imagine that anyone so widely read would ever be able to respond to individual comments; it would be immpossible while carrying on another full time job.
But he is able to respond, generally, to repeated accusations he’s addressed with, and it would be nice if he addressed them at some point …I haven’t seen it, and it seems unfortunate to my mind, because I don’t really think he’s an OP …though I do think he’s a bit full of himself to the exclusion of others with far bleaker circumstances than him (not saying that their bleak circumstances have anything to do with his personal actions).
well there are people who DO respond… and to be frank, I think at least at times, Hedges could. I don’t think he is overburdened.
Sadly you know who used to almost always respond, I don’t mean to every comment but strong ones or ones that took issue, was Ritter. But I think, tho it took years, he was finally destroyed by the moves against him.
I could care less, I don’t care if he made incoherent moves on what he thought was a 15 year old in a chat room or not. I really don’t….not in the scheme of the world… (Last I heard the judge had tossed the case, but i don’t know if further things happened)
to be honest, I agree (yeah so much for my giving him that benefit of the doubt) …as anyone over thirty, and certainly many younger than that, are well aware that some Full Time Jobs are far less enslaving and thought/speech restricting …… than others.
Witness all the Middle Managers and higher, on the Major Blawwghs ™ who’ve delegated the entirety of their FullTime ™ work load to those temp and perm for a minute, minions ‘below’ them while they pontificate freely for their candidates of choice, while still collecting that obscene hourly rate for their delegation “skills.”
I am 100% in agreement with you here. There’s certainly more than one way to protest. I for one like being a little mole inside the system. It’s not like I can do much, or do much damage. It’s more informational than anything…understanding how the machine works.
So you have to wonder about these professional protesters, the Medea Benjamins and Chris Hedges of the world. I certainly couldn’t afford being picked up – if I lose my job who feeds my wife and kids? And in this economy?
Plus I’m not a believer in activism anyway. If you put yourself in their sights you become a target. I’m all for the Hannah Arendt-style logic. Just don’t support the evil any way you can. I really think it was the 90% who weren’t in Tahrir Square that did the most damage. Its when the state calls on the cops and the public to beat people, and most don’t respond, is when they start shitting bricks. I kinda feel that happening already, which is most heartening. The Tea Party could only muster five people for their counterprotest? Hmmm…
one of the fascinating things to me when DKos got bigger (I don’t recall it being such a tedious mantra when it was smaller, before the format changes, etc) was all the cliams to be “an activist”… soemthing i would never on the face of the earth claim for myself. I’ve ‘paid attention my whole life’, I leave it at that…
And of course bit by bit… while there may have been an activist or two (I’d call Dancing Larry and activist, tho he has not been around, at least under that name, for years by now) most were just party hangers on. Or operatives.
End fo story.
I’m all for the Hannah Arendt-style logic. Just don’t support the evil any way you can.
YES!! I think it is a quote from HA, that voting for the lesser evil is still voting for evil. I wish more people knew that line or that more used it in argument…, it really washes away a LOT of foolishness…
oh I love that ts. Yes many of us did what we could to get that roof overhead of those we love, yet mole the system ….
though, I will say, being amongst the activism of the Mehserle protest was live giving, I wouldn’t undo that …. but one arrest can undo a person …so many choose their battles …and many cannot afford to join any of the “louder” events …… . I have no children, therefore I was more enabled to attend.
But as an older adult, with older adult “obligations,” I’m unable to enjoin in an “out there” way now, …. now that my mother is doing very poorly, that is my first concern, …though I fully support all of the wonderful humans who are occupying … I so wish I could join then in Manhatten.
OH! Now this I had not heard! Citibank apparentl has been instituting a 15.00 per mo charge on customers who use their debit card for purchases.
YIKES. Sounds like BofA is taking the hit in the media while Citi slams on thru wth 3 x the charge… (get a bandaid for BofA, I guess!!)
Apparently BofA isn’t going to charge $5 to the people who get their CA state benefits via debit card (which is pretty much everyone now), but give them time.
I’ve been waiting for an ACLU lawsuit about forced State and Federal Debit Cards (the upcoming Social Security forced debit cards for those with no bank account) over citizens being forced into a contract with a bank they don’t choose to do business with, as the debit cards, do represent a contract.
I think, wherever possible, and I realize it’s much. Much harder for the disabled and elderly, People should Revert Back To Cash if able.

Kind of weird that the Iowa AG is in charge, given that Iowa traditionally has some of the lowest RE prices and has a current unemployment rate of about 6.1%, so probably wasn’t affected much if at all by the bubble.

What a perfect picture (if not gut voiding) of our potential future.
New babes to be born with visible handcuffs attached at birth (yeah okay: super strength, blood circulation ending, near razor edged, plastic ziplock ties which won’t be removed without Corrupted Supreme Court Approval)
yeah
(no wonder the $$$$$$$Green$$$$$$$$ movement is banning free plastic bags in grocery stores (which the majority reuse as garbage bags (after all, we’re required to bag our garbage and there are no other options possible outside of recycled pulp, which is totally ignored as a garbage container, or recycle in some other manner); and yeah, notice there is absolutley no restriction on those pricey overabundant plasic bags, containers and excessively plastic entombed products ….which plastic, is just as readily, if not more so, polluting the land) they need that cheap plastic for the billions of one time only use, painful ziplock handcuffs for the massive arrests.)
