“Centurion Company, Combat Outpost Terminator”

Sounds like a really bad 80s movie about outer space war, inter-planetary war… doesn’t it?

Except… it’s not.

Speaking of war…………. Comedy Central censored South Park…. the Muhammed in a bear suit episode.

A cry for freedom. Can’t we at least keep our irreverent cartoons? Is nothing sacred? [snicker]

Oh and fuck the pope…

2. diane - 22 April 2010

Snicker snacks…
(Marisa, last thread)

though it’s too, too bleak, doesn’t get much better than that when you desire some sanity, acknowledgment of the reality, and truth in your life..in order to face a new day

some validation

that the world is askew!

the lightening, quite apropos

something in the murderous backdrop

making it

quite distinct from

a postcard from OK

Also re: last thread…did I ever share with ya’ll that I once worked at the SEC? Summer after my sophomore year and over winter break my junior year of college. Warning, about to date myself: in 1985. In the Chief Accountant’s Office as a clerk, under the very very educational tutelage of an “Accounting Fellow” on 2-year loan from Arthur Andersen (as they do all their “fellows” on all offices, yes, the regulators are the regulated…)

There’s more, but I have a feeling that you may have heard this story before….

marisacat - 22 April 2010

Tell! Tell!

brinn - 22 April 2010

Will do, but it’ll have to wait — boy the elder just cleaned the bathroom and did an excellent job! He also brought home a 3 As 1 B report card today and must be taken to Target….

I’ll leave you with this teaser:

Said Fellow kept a bottle of Scotch in the top drawer of his file cabinet…we “lived” right across the street from the FBI building and so there were lots of bomb threats…his protocol was to quietly retire into his office (with me), lock the door, unlock the file cabinet, break out a coupla glasses and tell me stories…

marisacat - 22 April 2010

his protocol was to quietly retire into his office (with me), lock the door, unlock the file cabinet, break out a coupla glasses and tell me stories

sounds like a plan… 😉

Madman in the Marketplace - 22 April 2010

only way to go!

marisacat - 22 April 2010

Warning, about to date myself:

Don’t worry! If I had done anything in a linear fashion (but why be an easy target?)… I would have done sophomore year of college somewhere in the early 70s!!

brinn - 22 April 2010

k, MCat — boy the elder asked me to ask you (he was looking over my shoulder as I typed that last) because he really can’t decide (sees the good qualities of both), between the red and the blue 2 in 1 lightsaber…. unfortunately, green and purple are not options for this particular model…

What say you?
🙂

marisacat - 22 April 2010

oh .. go for RED.

brinn - 22 April 2010

He sez:

YEESSS!!! I was hoping for red!

I sez:

Thanks, Mcat — yer da best!

diane - 22 April 2010

Andersen

creve couer (spelling likely wrong), at dkos a few years back, comes…quite vividly to mind…

had it , on good witness, the Dallas (if not Dallas, was Texas) office would not let the “Accountants” lunch with the “Lower Level Staff,” brown bag their lunch (now the “Big Four” ARE TOTALLY GREEN), nor take a bus (see last parenthetical comment) to work……

diane - 22 April 2010

creve ….

being, one of the really, really,….special….. peepsies!

diane - 22 April 2010

had it

that pertained to me, soz not to muddy things up

creve, was on the track (yet not ……snirk….(“snirk,” ….is an understatement………)

kisses and hugs to her………………..

ahhh, theres that “mashable” word …..which evaded me, ………moments ago,

diane - 22 April 2010

on a related note:

How did cloud computing contribute to the financial crises in 2008?

Money is a form of information- the oldest form. The combination of money and cloud computing has yet to be sorted out in a way that can allow capitalism to function in the long term. Hedge funds and the like are essentially mirrors of Google that search for money instead of advertising opportunities. And they find it. The financial services industry expanded vastly when cloud computing became available in the last decade, and provided no improved service in return. (The service provided by that sector is supposed to be risk management and what can one say?)

The core issue is that when someone owns a key node of the network through which everyone’s information flows, the position is so advantageous that it undermines the very notion of an economy. It is like owning everyone’s blood.

END OF EXCERPT

I think the above excerpt starts approaching some hidden realities ….THOUGH, just my opinion, I believe Capitalism is Self Serving (and how many “selves” can there be? …only one.) insane and deadly, at the end of the day……

I really feel sorry for the young ones who will have to find something totally new to survive. Here’s hoping they succeed, I really do love me some humans.

diane - 22 April 2010

to perfectly clarify

creve, despite the sweating humanity she put into her posts, was pretty much, ignored…………………

diane - 22 April 2010

until, apparently, he (very sorry for the misinformation, but is looking like creve was male) was banned … for:

toe stepping….

(those must have been some awfully large toes; because, as I recollect (and yes, I missed things, as I’m human, and was quite distracted by life and survival at the time, as is the case now), there were very few comments on his diaries.

marisacat - 22 April 2010

I ws going to say………………….. I think people should post where they want, BUT if they want to be heard, consdiered, etc. Dkos ain’t the spot.

Hell… I, Madman and wilfred, were all banned almost 5 years ago now.

diane - 22 April 2010

looks like that was the same year creve was banned (looks like he was banned in May 2005.)

Madman in the Marketplace - 22 April 2010

went out in a blaze of … well, something or other!

brinn - 23 April 2010

I was also banned — don’t forget me! 😉

marisacat - 23 April 2010

brinn was banned too!

4. catnip - 22 April 2010

Funny – but I don’t see this story on the dkos wreck list: Workers missing after Gulf rig sinks

Drill, baby, drill!

marisacat - 22 April 2010

or that it has sunk and is leaking… I have nto caught any reference the past days to any connection to renewed off shore drilling.

Carry on!

diane - 22 April 2010

the I WILL MAKE IT TO MARS! (AND START A PENAL COLONY),…penis era…..what else can one expect from it ?

…really hope it passes …………

like a truly painful, uninsured …. kidney stone………………………

Madman in the Marketplace - 22 April 2010

wonder how big the resultant spill will be …

diane - 22 April 2010

This source, headlines “millions of gallons”…….

US maritime authorities said crude oil was pouring into the sea at the site where the hulking Deepwater Horizon rig once stood ……..

….Officials said the current spill had the potential to be the worst seen in the United States since the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil tanker spill, considered one of the worst man-made environmental disasters…..

marisacat - 22 April 2010

I just heard an estimate of 300K of whatever measurement they use… (tons?) perday… which I would imagine is low (er, I mean less than it really is… ).

But, we need not worry:

Per the BBC:

US President Barack Obama has said that dealing with Tuesday’s oil rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico is a “number one priority”.

he’s on it!

catnip - 22 April 2010

Oh fuck. And what isn’t a “number one priority”?

5. Madman in the Marketplace - 22 April 2010
marisacat - 22 April 2010

gah.. soon to appear on SNL……………

😉

marisacat - 22 April 2010

speaking of comedy and snicker snacks…

Apparently Comedy Central is now censoring even mention of the WORD Muhammed from SP episodes… (according to Sully, of all people http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/ he has several entries)

AND there was a full depiction of Muhammed (no bear suit) in July 2001 with no screams from Islamist sites.

R E S P E C T

what a fucking mess that game is. (oh and fuck the pope… again)

diane - 22 April 2010

RESPECT

joggling the letters, because, surely we’re not being asked to pay “respect” where none has been due, ……for quite some time…

(oh wait ………(for how long FUCKERS?))

and I came up with ST CREEP

jus sayin………

:0(

marisacat - 22 April 2010

ugh I think we are constantly asked, prodded, inveigled, pursued etc., to pay respect, to all sorts of entities, religions, fake endeavors, persons, etc.

it gets really old.

diane - 22 April 2010

indeed,

which, In my mind, likely accounts for a a large portion of those increasingly unreported suicides.

making folks feel so unworthy, they choose not to live anymore.

I’ve come to believe that some of the fuckers are hideously and fully cognizant of the “fruits” of their labor.

marisacat - 22 April 2010

A couple of years ago, there were occasional reports of people committing suicide on the eve of eviction during foreclosure… one woman who shot herself in bed as the marshalls came… but fewer stories reported in the press the past 18 months or so.

Tonight thre were reports on the HAMP mess that is boiling over, ou here and I assume nationally…. The banks just put people into HAMP, temporary modification of mortgages, as they were required to participate in the scheme as a part of having taken federal money.

BUT NOW, people are being denied permament modification, dumped from the HAMP program and REQUIRED to pay the back differential over the past 12 months. Always it is thousands of dollars….

And back in foreclosure.

It is possible to squeeze people beyond what they can fight back against…

6. catnip - 22 April 2010

An old case…

A federal jury found a man not guilty Thursday in a killing on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation 34 years ago, during the height of the militant American Indian Movement. Richard Marshall was accused of providing the gun that was used to kill Annie Mae Aquash, a Movement activist, in 1975. Ms. Aquash participated in the 1973 armed occupation of the Pine Ridge village of Wounded Knee, a two-month siege that included gun battles with federal officers. Prosecutors believe Movement leaders later ordered her killed because they thought she was a government informant. Federal investigators have denied she was a snitch. Arlo Looking Cloud, who is serving a life sentence for his role in the death, testified that Mr. Marshall provided the murder weapon.

marisacat - 22 April 2010

that was a hideous murder too… whoever killed her.

catnip - 22 April 2010

Yup. She was Canadian so the story has been followed up here since it happened. A long and twisted tale.

7. diane - 22 April 2010

catnip,

have you heard much about this in Canada:

Potentially lethal fungus moves south from Canada – Cases are rare, but it can be difficult to diagnose. Officials are on the lookout for it in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California.

It looks like anyone in the noted areas witnessing any kind of odd respiratory problems, should point this out to their doctor (hopefully, they can afford a doctor).

Thankfully it looks like cases are rare, and that it’s not contagious.

catnip - 22 April 2010

I hadn’t heard about that. Looks like more of a west coast thing. Thanks for the link.

Sheesh – between that and our notorious geese, you guys are going to have to bubble off your country from us soon!

diane - 22 April 2010

yeah it’s those damn Canadians with their geese and fungi – Terrerists!

diane - 22 April 2010

Like I noted in a comment that hasn’t posted yet, could be one of those “timely” announcements by our concerned “caretakers.”

(But still, those damn Geese….!)

diane - 22 April 2010

And yeah, it does occur that the timing on the announcement might be finely honed, since it’s not the first they knew of this. At least the LAT piece seemed far more subdued unlike the near red alert article that Reuters put out on it.

None of our business apparently, but wonder how much this will ultimately cost us:

X-37B military spaceplane launches from Cape Canaveral

By Paul Rincon
Science reporter, BBC News

A prototype spaceplane developed for the US military has been launched into orbit from Florida.

The X-37B, which has been likened to a scaled-down space shuttle, blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 0052 BST (1952 EDT).

snip

The X-37B started life in 1999 as a US space agency programme, but Nasa handed the project over to the Pentagon in September 2004. As such, the Air Force is in a position to talk openly about the craft’s design, but its purpose remains classified.

Dr Joan Johnson-Freese, chair of national security and decision making at the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, said the military would be waiting to see if this project yielded new capabilities: “It might be at this point in time that [the US Air Force is] going to roll the dice and see if something good happens.

“If it does, they’ll continue with it. Otherwise, this will be another one of those [experimental] projects that goes into a bin somewhere.”

Second plane

The USAF has requisitioned a second experimental plane from the prime contractor Boeing; this is being targeted for launch sometime in 2011.

snip

… wonder what the secret surprise, something good, is? On a serious note, I really hope it’s just a preventitive against asteroid problems into the future,…….. if not, ………talk about infinite wars……………………

snicker snax….

as long as they are red blooded boys [and girls – one would assume!]…. and it was not gay porn!!

There’s an “eviler” greater than both of us! The greater evil has been found!

And Dems have tiny little balls if they steal some from the Really Big Boys.

Why it’s time to call some bluffs:

Republicans “don’t want to be tagged in their campaigns with backing Wall Street at the expense of Main Street. And that’s our ace in the hole,”

Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said Thursday on ABC’s “Top Line.”

marisacat - 23 April 2010

oh I must be right! Eugene agrees with me…

Your next storyline: “The president is on the offensive now; his opponents are scrambling to decide how to react. Obama should thank the misbehaving lords of Wall Street, because they have given him a way to get his mojo back,” Eugene Robinson writes in his Washington Post column.

marisacat - 23 April 2010

I have overdosed on snicker snax.

catnip - 23 April 2010

I’m pretty sure it’s racist or something to say that he’s lost his mojo…

marisacat - 23 April 2010

BAR on the cartoon, Boondocks… I had to look up “D-Rider” in the slang dictionary… I guess it is a more vulgar form of “suck-up”… standing for “dick rider”.

diane - 23 April 2010

“dick rider” was my knee jerk …..

which I think the more palatable version for some of us (those of us who still have a roof over our heads, and some food) might be….Shack Bully, ….. among Fellow Slaves to a Ghastly, Cruel, Ethereal, and Violating, …. SYSTEM ……

11. catnip - 23 April 2010

They’re not exactly all that swift over there at the Big Orange Bubble Factory. Wondering why Stesak wants Biden – who’s appearing at a Specter shindig – to disavow a Specter attack ad? Hello? Anybody home over there?

Leave JoeBiden Alone!!

marisacat - 23 April 2010

As long as it is clear this is not a BFD. Or WMD… or IED… or anything like that!

catnip - 23 April 2010

Must.protect.Senator.MagicBulletTheory.at.all.costs.

12. catnip - 23 April 2010

I’m starting to feel like Ellie Mae with all of the critters around here. Had to stop on the way home today to let a pheasant cross the road and then I saw a goat sitting on top of the cab of a truck. Oh – and then there’s the confused rooster. Either he sleeps in really late of he can’t figure out when the sun comes up. And the donkey. And the horses. And all of the cats. And the bird that sounds like a car starting. And the coyotes. And the dogs. And the geese. And the ducks. Noisy place! Who needs an iPod when you have iNature?

marisacat - 23 April 2010

that sounds wonderful!
