A pilot (L) ejects from a jet bomber as it crashes after being hit over Benghazi [AP/GETTY]

Not to worry about that messy detail, that AFRICOM leader Gen Carter Ham is leading this operation – aerial invasion.

Some Pentagon uniform is adivising us that it will swiftly move to coalition leadership.

Whew, so relieved.

I mean, can we get a war on or what!???

oh yes, be advised, we’re on the “leading edge” of this operation, BUT we are NOT, NOT leading it.

Cue every Mission Creep in America to the green rooms-

CNN weekend men-folk anchors, now:

Don Lemon: Puts us right in the middle of the action in Libya!

John Somebody: That’s right Don, I have to say, gosh, so much has changed on the ground in just the last few hours so what does this mean? {Blink. Blink. Smile.}

Ed Henry with the “Pretzel as reluctant warrior” narrative now..Yeh they have’nt released the DoD “Blow Up Shit” footage yet when the US networks will all be humping the “War-Time” ya-ha.

i see stock futures are headlined as UP UP and AWAY…on the nooooooooooz.

Every Two-bucker A $60 VALUE!

I see the networks have their Mil rentboys on for the whole “mission” creep day

CNN : All Clark , All the Time. Just hammering his “escalation dominance” sell job like the latest in abdominal workout videos. MSNBC with General For God Sakes/ Get Some Fucking Denture Grip Barry McCaffrey.

Salesmen, both.

marisacat - 19 March 2011

he was more fun when he tried to sell that the US Army, in his experience as having run bases (Herr General!) is a socialist organisation.

Yessssssss that was a thrill. Next big thrill was when he got ambushed up in NH on a radio show and he proudly, popping his buttons, declared his support for abortion to the “day before delivery”.

Special special moments.

The other was catching sght of his wife (thanks to Cspan), whom he declared he nicknamed “my general”, basically marshall him around his rallies. Because he had zero clue what to do.

Yes our strong leaders.

OH!! and the morning he was at Eggs and Politics and drunk on brunch champagne enough to giggle and say … well whooops I don’t speak all those languages they say I do (whch had been French German and Russian iirc… ) which of course was always doubtful, from the get go. But fed to the wee pro mil pro war lib dems.

Dumb as rocks.

From the platter:

Tweety asked him what the Democratic party was all about.. cuz it had slithered out he Republicans had wanted him too! And he had addressed Republican groups in Ark (prolly hard not too, frankly)… and he said:

It is the party of internationalism.

Remember he was running in a domestic Dem primary.

I LVOED it!!

2. dr-gonzo - 19 March 2011

This is difficult for me because I am for the war, but against the troops…

Should we call this Yugoslavia 2.0, or Iraq 3.0?

GOD SAVE US FROM HUMANITARIANS!

marisacat - 19 March 2011

yes but the “war”, the war of intervention, is to aid the “freedom” groups that we, thru CIA, or hte various western “pro democracy” groups like National Endowment for Democracy and so on, have been working iwth and backing…

We would never back the people, people free of our taint, aginst Qaddafi, not really.

marisacat - 19 March 2011

It’s like a lot of, not all but too damned many, of the ex Tiananmen Sq people are cosy tight as can be, with the Hoover Institute, down at Stanford.

Radioactive material found in Tokyo water

Discovery comes after Japan banned sales of some food from the area of the Fukushima power plant and engineers battled to cool a overheated reactor

Just pulling threads as all unwind. GE really needs those coffers replenished with DoD orders. Like the Saudis the GCC and the rest of the peninsula need the oil run-up. And the Donklephants here, like Cameron and Sarko’s pathetic respective hustles, they all need something to take public to sell sacrifice.
The BRIC and Germany with their abstentions at the UN, not so into it apparently.

marisacat - 19 March 2011

Silly willy. It is not dangerous.

Radioactive material is your friend. What are you? Agaisnt having new friends? Psych Eval needed!!

The Iraq War or War in Iraq, also referred to as the Second Gulf War or Operation Iraqi Freedom, was a military campaign that began on March 20, 2003

Obamafucker is strutting his full on hawk display now. This will be his war for the next election to rally the homeland against yet another enemy.

How many votes can he get per burnt child corpse or pregnant mother with a bullet to the back of the head? The mind wanders…

marisacat - 19 March 2011

I am sure he is very excited. His very own War.

I see Stratfor is calling it:

The Libyan War of 2011.

marisacat - 19 March 2011

And of course he is honoring the start of the Iraq War… at least as I see it.

From the Stratfor email:

The Libyan War of 2011

March 19, 2011

The Libyan war has now begun. It pits a coalition of European powers plus the United States, a handful of Arab states and rebels in Libya against the Libyan government. The long-term goal, unspoken but well understood, is regime change — displacing the government of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and replacing it with a new regime built around the rebels.

The mission is clearer than the strategy, and that strategy can’t be figured out from the first moves. The strategy might be the imposition of a no-fly zone, the imposition of a no-fly zone and attacks against Libya’s command-and-control centers, or these two plus direct ground attacks on Gadhafi’s forces. These could also be combined with an invasion and occupation of Libya

Oh just fucking delightful, did I wake up in an insane asylum this morning?

”Some critics of Japanese storage system see a worse-than-Chernobyl scenario ahead,” ALTHOUGH:

Krishna “Kris” Singh, an engineer and chief executive officer of Marlton-based Holtec who designed the nuclear-waste storage systems used in most local plants.

Singh said people in the East should not panic, considering how astronomically unlikely it is that a tsunami or magnitude-9 earthquake would ever hit the Mid-Atlantic region.

His firm has been asked [duhhhhh ….BY WHOM? – diane] to reevaluate storage pools at the Diablo Canyon plant in California, where such a large quake remains possible. He said that plant’s overall design was more earthquake-proof than was Fukushima.

yup, you read it right Krishna “Kris” [Kringle] ….the hideously bleak jokes just …etc., etc.

new verse, same as the first!

American Official Warns That Qaddafi May Lash Out With New Terrorist Attacks

Asked if American officials feared whether Colonel Qaddafi could open a new terrorism front, Mr. Brennan said: “Qaddafi has the penchant to do things of a very concerning nature. We have to anticipate and be prepared for things he might try to do to flout the will of the international community.”

Among the threats the United States is focusing on is Libya’s stockpile of deadly mustard gas, he said.

I’m a paralegal in a compliance department in the financial industry.

diane - 19 March 2011

so may get to see the noncompliance too, but not be able to do squat about it ….sigh

Madman in the Marketplace - 19 March 2011

well, since the whole system relies mostly on self-regulation, one can hope to put pressure up front to prevent it from happening in the first place. Compliance departments are basically superegos within the corporate “person”, some do it better than others.

The SEC and FINRA, not to mention the FBI or other law enforcement, don’t have the resources to go after most of the bad actors anyway.

This culture is what it is, and I’m too old to maintain anymore illusions that it’s going to change in my lifetime.

sigh, of course I read today that Dany Cohn-Bendit who led the early uprisings at Nanterre campus of the university, has come out for the Libyan invasion. Regime change. Bombing raid. Chance for little men to feel big.

Whatever it is we have unleashed.

Plus ca change… etcetera.

Congressman Sensenbrenner Laughs about Japan Tragedy

Let me step back and tell you why I was at his town hall meeting. For the last few weeks, I have been volunteering to remove Alberta Darling from her role as State Senator. I was in Menomonee Falls this weekend collecting signatures when I found out that Congressman Sensenbrenner would be holding a town hall meeting at the Menomonee Falls Village Hall on Sunday.

I thought I would attend because the Congressman invites state representatives to be at his town hall meetings with him to address any state issues that might arise. This meant that Senator Darling might be there.

I arrived to a packed room, but no Alberta Darling. I stayed anyway, wondering what I would hear.

It didn’t take long. In response to the first audience question regarding light rail, Congressman Sensenbrenner said, in part, that in order for high-speed rail to work in Wisconsin, it would have to have a feeder system like they have in Europe and Japan. Then he said, “Or like they had in Japan until a few days ago. Heh, heh.”

Yes, he guffawed.

And, guess what, most of the audience laughed with him.

I was sickened. I couldn’t believe what I had heard.

I stayed for another 30 minutes, but after a few more uncomfortable moments like this, I just had to leave.

Madman in the Marketplace - 19 March 2011

not that I know of, and hopefully by summer we won’t have a Senator named “Alberta”, either.

…. Obama has modified Bush’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan: not only maintaining the occupations but guaranteeing long-term presence in both countries. He has also started a war in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen where the US is a major force in the war there.

Western enthusiasm for intervention in Libya has never even been explained: why the hundreds of deaths in Egypt or Tunisia did not warrant any condemnation (the State Department did manage to condemn the protesters in Egypt, lest we forget too soon)? Israel manages to kill far more than Qadhdhafi and in shorter periods of time, and we never encounter the “humanitarian” impulse of Western governments there.

Western military intervention in Libya is far more dangerous:

it is intended to legitimize the return of colonial powers to our region and 2) perhaps as importantly to abort democratic uprisings all over the region. Bahrain of today is the vision for Libya of tomorrow, as far as the West is concerned.
